is there a better alarm clock than the stock one? one with more options and tones and such?
Options such as what? Any alarm tones/sounds (although there is a file size limit on stock rom) can be added/selected by the user.

the pre-alarm is so awesome.....
I like g-alarm, but it is paid. It was the only good custom alarm app for Win 6.5 and I stuck with it when I switched.
If you are really bad about hitting the snooze a lot without thinking about it you can set up puzzles and math problems to solve before the alarm will shut off.

I also set it up so I'm forced to solve math problems in order to snooze it. It ALMOST helps me get up on time.

I don't have a problem with the stock alarm in general but is there one where I can tap to snooze? When my alarm goes off at 6am it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between snooze and off on stock.

Hard to say. Worse case scenario flash back to stock and then reroot. Download rom manager and flash recovery and then you can backup your current rom and everything on it that way if you make a mistake moving forward you can always revert back instead of starting over. I learned that lesson the same way you did.
What did the app do? Do you remember that at least?
Sounds like a task manager.
maybe advanced task killer
It was similar to a task manager but that was not its main focus ..bah oh well I guess... If i remember the name I'll let you all know, its an amazing app.

when you opened the app.. a box/rectangle that was almost the same size as the screen would pop up but you could still see the background of either the app drawer or what ever screen you had the app on, in the box it would be a list of actions that the app could do, such as end all tasks... there was one that said favorite apps that you could put all your fav apps in instead of having your desktop flooded with apps. those are the only ones i remember, they are the only ones i ever used.
i found it just a few days ago... i saw a review or somthing that made mention of the app and i was all ehh ill check it out and i loved it! ugh its driving me insane now that i cant remember it..
Was it jkAppSwitch by any chance?
Maybe android mate...

Hi guys
Question: Does anyone know of an app, that can also give us Android users the kind of functionality on the Iphone 5 pull down? (See Screenshot)
I would like to see my mails listed, maybe the first 2 or so, with sms, weather etc?
I have looked, maybe this is a nice dev opp?
There are apps you use to get like this, but one single app, i think we still dont have...

yeah, sorry. I saw that. Perhaps should have mentioned it.
I'm on stock 2.3.4. and it said it wouldn't work.
so thanks for re-using the search function for me.
Don't get me wrong but the notification/widget implementation on iOS is not pretty efficient in my opinion.
I'd hate to be constantly pulling down just so see what's up with the weather or whatever.
I rather have my widgets on the unlock screen or desktop as Android does.
Cheers!

Anyone know how to get voice search to set an alarm? Like I hold down search and say set alarm for X? It says I don't have the correct program installed..
Alternatively, anyone know which app works with this?

the stock gingerbread clock works for this. You should be able to pull one from another phone or ROM. And at least some of the alarm clock apps in the market do the same; I believe Alarm Klock is one of them.
It's handy but I like the timer function of the Samsung clock enough to give up the voice commands for now.

Works good using Speaktoit Assistant just tried it after reading post, told her to set alarm for 6:00 p.m. she replied setting alarm for 6:00 p.m. went into the clock app and there's a caption above alarm saying set by assistant. If you try Speaktoit I would also recommended Ivona for a speach engine. All are free in market.

The notification bubbles are in fact gone with this release of Jelly Bean. But if you're rooted, there's a simple way to get them back:
Using a file explorer such as Root Explorer. Navigate to the system folder, enter the CSC folder, and change the name of the customer.xml file. I normally just add a .bak to the end of it, so customer.xml.bak. Reboot the phone and you're good to go!

The only thing I can think is that you're not using the stock launcher, or the stock messaging app. These notifications bubbles won't work with something like Handcent or GO SMS, or GO Locker.

Using the stock SMS app but I am running Nova Launcher but not the Nova locker. Funny though..I ran Nova Launcher on my S3 and still got the bubble notifications on the lock screen.
I looked through the customer.xml file and didn't notice anything that would allow or prevent that notification. Do you know what section/setting in the xml pertains to that option?

I couldn't tell you. I just know that this is a trick that I picked up while using my S3. Renaming or deleting the file entirely fixes the notification bubbles.

entirely? i have tried this and it does restore them but also adds a really annoying tutorial thing about swiping to go to messages, it doesn't have a Don't Show Again option it just says OK, and it keeps coming back.
if you know a way around this that would be great.
i am using es file explorer to rename the file (only tried customer.xml.bak)

It doesn't have a whitelist, like what you want, but it silences all notifications and allows calls to still ring. It's called SEER.
