No offense, but that's a review from Apple fanboys. Do. Not. Want.
they seemed relatively ok.
i'm just unhappy to hear the battery is even worse than the evo. i just bought an evo and thought it would have better battery than my hd2 but nope :/ and i thought with the bigger battery in the 3d and dual core then it would improve.
eh, either way im getting it. just keep chargers everywhere!
Lol... they compared battery life of it with the sensation with 4g on... Thats unhelpful.

Figured some info is better than no info ..
It sorta makes sense... kind of... (seeing as the sensation had 4g on) but the sensations 4g doesn't require a separate radio. How could the 3d possibly have worse battery life with a bigger battery?
I guess I'm going to still hold on to my evo and wait for next year's version or if something better comes along. All these negatives and worse battery life just not going to cut it.

I think the 4G comparison is fair... both phones had whatever it took, enabled, to obtain the same speeds... This is a beef I have with Sprint. My friends with T-Mobile get sick speeds, without any additional battery draw.
On another note, you guys cry foul and say Engadget is biased? Okay, let's assume that's true. The camera he was using certain has no opinion in the matter... I saw the side-by-side comparison of viewing angles... and they flat out suck. I guess it's because of the 3D? I was really, REALLY hoping that there would be no side-effect of having a 3D phone and not using it, but it seems like the two most important parts have been crippled...

Although I don't disagree, it shouldn't have to come to that. I'm still getting the 3D and I think it will be a great phone. I just wish HTC had learned something from the Supersonic with (what is in my mind) it's 3 biggest negatives, battery life, camera quality, screen quality. All seem to be an improvement over the original, all still seem to be lagging behind the competition.

I don't think you should be REQUIRED to hack your phone to make it usable. It's great that we can customize this phone, (assuming it gets unlocked,) but how can you tell them to stfu when all their points are entirely valid?
Your fanboy is showing.
No, the battery tests are with 4g on. Seeing as how it uses the same 4g radio... its going to drain the battery a ton still.
Well if your taking close to a hundred camera shots and videos a day the battery might not do so well. Ill take 14 hours of battery life anyday. And we all know as soon as it gets some custom goodness it will at least go up to 20 hours!

Honestly the reviewer couldn't remember some of the items that came on the phone, and had several other mistakes during this video. I feel as if someone who had an idea of the phone to begin with would have done a better review. Heck he complained about "mushy" button's which the EVO 4g has, and complained about the camera which has done good pictures that Ive seen. Hell he couldn't even tell if the camera was covered by glass or plastic, something thats very easy to distinquish.
Honestly the ignorance of the reviewer for this phone showed pretty well. I wouldn't say everything he said was 100%.
There are a more reviews out there than Engadget. A lot of them state they get better battery life than the EVO 4G. Also as I said in another thread, they are very biased.
Take a gander at the other reviews

Nothing has showed that hacking the phone was REQUIRED to use the phone. The phone is 200% usable out of the box, "hacking" will mainly get rid of Sense or bloatware and make battery drain minimal.
Your ignorance is showing.
OK Sprint. When's that release date for the Within?
Engadget also seemed to be happy commenting on the battery life including 3D imaging, which is a little unfair, as no other phone can be used to compare.
If Aaron isn't doing the review, its not worth reading.
I ask this question sincerely. Its been hard keeping up with all the topics in this section of the forum, and there are many more complaints about things than real reviews from the people who own the phone. I'm on the fence. I've been looking for objective analysis of the phone from the people who have now had it, going on two days.
So, I ask, does anyone wish they didn't pre order? Anyone definitely bringing it back for something you would define as a deal breaker? I know I have nothing to lose to try it for 30 days, but I'm weighing it out to see if I should wait a while for things to get tidied up before I buy one.
Thanks
I know the release was a bit buggy, but HTC seems pretty good about fixing these issues considering the phone is not even out yet. You can count on the development for this phone skyrocketing once the bootloader becomes unlocked.
I only regret ordering via Early Purchase because my power button's broken, and I'm sitting, staring at my non-functional 3VO, hoping I can get it switched out tomorrow (crosses fingers that stars align).
For the brief time I did use it (finding ways to bypass the power button problem), no complaints.

Yeah, I know its a matter of when, not if on the bootloader so that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. Minor bugs are a part of early adoption also. Is the phone really that much better than the OG Evo? I get the specs and all, but I'm running Sense 3.0 on my OG and it runs great. I'm sort of interested in taking 3D pics of my kids and the reports of the camera being better in general is a plus for me.
Thanks for the reply.

Despite any of the complaints or bugs that people have reported, I still say that this is an awesome phone, and don't regret buying it at all. Any of the bugs that are being reported now will likely be handled via ota's in a timely manner. Once the bootloader gets cracked and we can get some some custom roms and kernels on this thing it's all over. This is the smoothest phone I've used, even with stock sense.
EDIT: and after reading your second post, let me say that this thing runs 100% smoother and quicker than any of the 3.0 or 2.1/3.0 'hybrid' roms for the OG Evo. I've ran them all on my Evo, and this thing squashes the 3.0 Evo roms, in terms of speed and smoothness. The hardware is simply far superior on this, so it runs much smoother.

Thanks, this is the stuff I'm looking for. I tend to have periods of buyers remorse on certain purchases and while the bugs seem pretty minor, HTC still has a pretty good record of hot fixing things in short time.
I love the phone. I definitely have some complaints.. some are legit, others are preference based. You're gonna have to physically play around with one before you can really decide if it's for you or not. it is fast and smooth, I do still notice a hang here and there that I'm sure is the fault of Sense 3.0
Hoping to get this thing rooted but, it will be incredibly tough if HTC doesn't keep their promise. Still. rooted or not, I will keep this phone for at least a year..

I have syn running on my evo but you can't beat how smooth this is. I had virus rom and carousel was never this smooth. Not putting them down they did awesome porting the 3d/sensation roms. Also this is the best screen I've had on any phone. everything super fast load. No remorse here but I'm also still running rooted 4g.

Umm, yeah, I try nearly every rom that comes around and....umm...not a single 3.0 or 2.1/3.0 hybrid rom I came across would i consider even slightly close to smooth....I typically tune my phone extremely tight....and at first I blamed a lack of an OC kernel...but....even after letting it settle in for a while those roms on a 4G sucked. It was fun being able to play with my next phone--sorta--before I got it...but...not even close. I just couldn't get it to what I considered usable...while I understand that all phones aren't created equally...somehow...I've never had any bad luck at all with my Evo 4G...at all....if all phones aren't created equally (...aside from the physics and practicalities of CPU fabrication the verdict is still out on that one...) my OG Evo would be one of the best, cream of the crop....and those Sense 3.0alike roms were fun, but, the performance blew hard chunks.....I think perhaps "not all people's standards and expectations are created equal" is a more apt assessment of the situation....YMMV

I agree completely. I think people's expectations and interpretations of what 'smooth' and 'usable' is vary greatly. I never had a problem with my OG Evo (launch day evo, still mint condition), but none of the roms are as smooth as this thing is, and this is a stock htc rom! I can't imagine the possibilities that lay ahead with this phone.
Everything on this phone runs as smooth as butter. Multitasking is a dream and everytime i start an app, I cum a little its so fast. Feeling like you can reach into your screen when looking at 3d content annoys the hell out of me cuz i can't... Lol besides the few software quirks that show up here and there this phone is perfection. I am astounded by the difference between this and the 4G.. wow. I have not once felt any remorse.. buy this phone lol

Still the honeymoon. Check back in about 3 weeks when it gets ugly.
I am completely loving the entire experience so far! So smooth... Fast... I love that I can just pinch the browser window and it shows the pages/allows me to close and add more so quickly.
Battery life has been great for me! Sense 3.0 is crazy cool. U even think the vibration feedback feels so much better than the 4G. The 3D gives me a headache, but it is fun to show off. The camera for 2d focuses better... Can actually take a focused picture of my jack russell. The dog was always a blur on the 4G because he never stays still.
No remorse here at all. It's a solid device!

Seems, all the likes for this phone are eye candy, and not actual practicality. Aside from the 3D what can this phone do that the Evo can't with a custom rom? I keep asking myself, what need do I have with a phone that takes 3D movies or pictures, I mean, a cell phone should never be used as your main camera, the quality is never as good as a DSLR, or even a decent point and shoot. So at best the Evo 3D has more gimmicks then the Evo 4G. So I guess the question is, are the gimmicks worth the extra money?
As far as smoothness, maybe, maybe not. The latest Kingdom and Synergy roms run really smooth on the 4G. It may take a second for an app to come up, but I mean, come on, are our lives that fast paced that one second really matters? Man I miss the 80's.
Forget the 3D, it is just sweet novelty to show off and give your enemies headaches... Think dual core, sense 3.0 goodness. It's a great next gen Evo.

This might be a stupid question, but does the community ever expect to get 3D functionality in an AOSP build? I am assuming the technology is pretty complicated and is completely part of Sense, so how will this ever work? This worries me slightly...
Also, anyone tried the mirroring on HDMI in toast's CM7 build? These are two deal breakers for me, but at the same time so is HTC's horrible Bluetooth stack

I would say its completely possible to get 3D in AOSP. A couple factors though.
1.) The evo3D is not as popular as the Evo4G was/is. That may hold up development.
2.) Remember, 4G was only in Sense as well. That had tto be built into AOSP from the ground up.
3.) There are 2 3D phones out right now. So that might help development. Especially since the Thrill doesn't run Sense at all. Its running... Well, whatever the thrill runs on top of Android.
So, I think it'll happen eventually. Just be patient.
Might be totally unrelated, but the heroc's camera was always better on a sense rom than in cm7----are the camera drivers tied entirely to sense?
Sent by Logo the turtle
Pretty sure most of the drivers on E3D are tied into Sense... i think it's time to look into BootManager, dual booting ROMs to get the best of both worlds... for now at least.
Toast already has vidoes with the 3d flag playing on CM7, the driver and source for 3d are released already. I think it will happen, we didn't buy this device for 3d but we found it to be kind of cool. This will be what brings it to CM, that and the best development teams have this device!

Well, as far as taking 3D pictures and video, I'm sure it will come along. Toast is a beast, he'll get it done. Right now, you can still watch 3D videos that you've taken or converted into 3D. Rockplayer reads the 3D videos, as do a few other players.
On a related note, has anyone found a Gallery type program that reads .mpo files as 3D? I love CM, and being able to still watch my 3D videos is a hell of a bonus, but I'd like to still be able to view my 3D pictures too.
Was wondering about that too..
Hello,
I wan to buy a evo 3d for my birthday.
Can anybody explain me why I have to buy it? And why not? (+/-)
Are games like GTA avaidable and playable? I have a itouch 2g now and im getting sick of the error not avaidable. And a Wildfire, Same problem
Hoe good are the 3D effects? Comes it Out your screen?
Are there 3D games and movies avaidable?

Thank you.
Evo 3D is a good phone, a bit heavy and steady, 3D is good and effective but not "impressive" (you have to find yourself at the very right location, unlike a 3D screen with glasses) and the 2D / 3D camera... just sucks : blurry, laggy, a hell of a deception. For that matter, choose another model or brand.
Kochise
when is your birthday and how much are you willing to spend?
the 3d is a great phone but its almost 1 yr old and thats pretty dated in technology world. But up to you, im happy with my phone as it outperforms anything thats comparable in specs. but to each his own
Because it doesnt look like the other phones and its so thick, fat, big and radical
Anyway the Backside is sexy
@ktrotter11
The Evo isnt one year old... 6 months
If you're interested in seeing the 3D effects, no one here can really justify an answer. It's really something you just have to experience yourself, and judge whether you like it or not. Not everyone is able to see it well. I, myself, have no problems with it at all. I could watch an entire movie on it and not get a headache or anything.
My suggestion (not sure how it works where you're from), go to your carrier's store and play around with one. If that's not possible, see if anyone you know has one and play around with it for a few minutes.
I started a similar topic just now :/

Mine dhd never once switch off herself, and what a phone. Tomorrow asda will take it back, I will hold to dhd - in april come ics, don't mind wait month longer opposite evo for ICS...
You should look somewhere in a store if you like the 3D. If you want a good camera and dont like the 3D so much, then you could better buy a Sensation or some other phone. For me the extra RAM was a big plus of the Evo 3D, but 1gb is kinda standard on the phones from now. Games like GTA will be playable for sure, but think some older phones might also with some lag moments sometimes.

The price in my country for the Evo 3d is €350, or in dollars $463.
The Sensation cost € 382,50, and in dollars $507.
Phones like the samsung g S2 cost € 466, $617,61
I hope I can get €200 (total) for my old phone and Ipod, and i get around €100 from my parents.
I maybe sometimes got a bit feeling that its coming out the screen, most of the time you can see depth in the screen.
Lol Sensation is an older phone, if you wont use camera a lot then the Evo is better for sure.
So before I buy the Evo from Asda in the UK. What's the issue with hboot 1.49 based phones? Do they have a mad mobo or something?

I have a Evo 3D myself but would prefer the Galaxy nexus given a chance:
- If you are into rooting, Evo 3D has (IMO) best choice and variety of ROM's and has one of the most active developer community.
- There are 3D games and movies available and for a first time viewer/player, you would be enthralled. It could cause eye pain if prolonged viewing.
- Has a microSD and thus unlimited storage (Nexus does not)
However, do remember that Evo3D is nearing a year since its release which in cell phone terms means almost nearing end of life.
-- Just my 2 cents!

Any product can have a problem... why didn't you take it back and ask for a replacement? If you got a second one and it did the same.. surely then you would be in a position to complain about it and be a little respected?
I'm sorry you had an issue (I'm not an Evo 3D owner), but this really isn't fair on the product.

Pointless no since ultimately it's the end user that decides whether or not they want to give up the 3D feature for a ROM. There are a couple ROMS that have functioning 3D but sadly to incorporate it into ROMS such as MIUI or CM is quite challenging.
Look at it this way, some people don't mind giving that feature up for something that is far more promising in the long run. Options are always welcomed with these devices.

Perfect example!
I got it for the hardware and shamefully the 3D. The WOW factor wore off pretty quick in my case.

I don't think it's pointless. The dev's and rom cookers give you the details on what's working and not working in their releases 99% of the time, and a lot of the android enthusiasts (most people on this board), have a reason or another to willingly sacrifice a thing or two. (WiMax for example, since here in AZ we don't have the network capabilities to utilize it.)
Those who are not willing get the choice to avoid it, or test it out and see if they're willing to use it until the author gets a chance to resolve the bugs / known issues. (Assuming they plan to fix it. Some outright state they have no intentions to.)
Well as long 3D movies and 3D recording doesn't work it will not be mine daily driver. But fact is that some off these roms that miss a few features off our phone are really good.
Rom I have now MikRunny 1.11 still has an bug with 3D games, but because there are almost no 3D games is the reason I don't mind that.
I'll kiss 3D goodbye for a cm rom any day. In fact, I only bought this phone for the great hardware. 3D is something I'd show friends, maybe take a bunch of pictures and that's it. It's more a "nice to have" feature than anything I'd really miss.
If I know I need the 3D feature (or MHL, which is more important to me and doesn't work on non-sense roms I've tried [GSM user]), I can still restore a Sense backup

This is kinda what i mean i dont overly use the feature but its a feature i would like to have at hand if the opportunity to use it arose
I think it will all change when the evo 3d gets the official ics update
I could care less about the 3D, honestly, its a novelty on the phone at best. When it came out, it had better specs than anything else Sprint was offering, and I was interested in "keeping it in the family" as I came from the EVO 4G.
Gimme a good room with battery life, camera, working 4g, and good sound, and you can burn 3D into the ground.
The EVO 3D is a gimmick

People who don't have it tend to say that its an gimmick yes. If you don't see it in real its hard to judge.
I also mainly judged on the hardware specifications as the choice for HTC was obvious.
But now I have I can say for sure its not an gimmick its an really usefull feature that is going change my life, because first I could only record in 2D and now I can record in 3D and that is just great, as for later then I can watch these memories back in 3D.
Although I don't have an 3D tv. One thing I know for sure, if I would buy an TV or Monitor and I can get on for not much with 3D then I for sure go for the 3D.
But now I put 3D movies on the Evo 3D and go lie in bed and watch an 3D movie, although it drains the battery, as yesterday after I had it charged 100% not long after that I went watching an 3D movie that was 120 mins long.
My battery drained at time 60% but its worth watching in 3D as its really an nice experience and I'm even more expressed by the 3D video's I can make myself.
I pratice Kung fu and yesterday I asked mine trainer if I could film him doing the first form and I looked it few times back and it looks so great.

For people that want it, but can't go without certain features, just need to get Boot Manager. Get it setup when your running your daily, so goes on phone ROM. Then slide over to other slots & setup ROM you want to try. All you do to flip between is open boot manager, slide to ROM you want to run & hit boot ROM. I usually won't buy apps, only use free ones, unless I WILL use it & really benefit from it like making easier. This was worth it!! Also good to just try out ROMS. See a ROM that looks good but not sure if you like it, & just end up restoring your ROM, or re flash your daily. This it's already setup, & if don't like new ROM just delete it from manage option.
