Currently i have 35Mb of space in use.
26Megs is for a game & the other 9Mb i'm presumming is windows etc. however there is an optional file for said game that is 84Mb and i don't have the storage.
i was wondering if it is possible to load all the windows data into the 14Mb of free storage/rom leaving just the game in main memory. then there will be space for the additional file:
game 26Mb + additional file 84Mb = 110Mb (14Mb free)
This is not a permanant solution, obviously an mmc card is a better option but i don't have the cash at the moment, so i want a quick fix for playing the game. also i wouldn't mind having that extra 10 megs. lol
many thanks, sorry if this has been brought up, i did a search but there was too many results to sift thru.
Yes its possible to do it without an SD card...
Go to START -> SETTINGS
then choose the second tab (SYSTEM)
then click on MEMORY
now you can give more space to STORAGE area & reduce it for the PROGRAMS (which is the memory windows uses to run programs)
But be aware that windows will control this memory ratio automatically every few menutes...
i think i must have misphrased the question.
I already know how to adjust the memory settings, and i will get round to that to give more memory to storage, but first i need that 14Mb of memory that the windows and programfiles folders have already taken up. I want to be able to store that in the free backup ROM space, hence leaving all 128Mb of RAM free, which i can then divide into 110Mb storage and 14Mb program ram.
Ahh well, thats impossible!!!
Windows needs to be installed on the RAM, you can't change that ever!
I suggest you to buy an MMC card, its cheaper than SD cards..
Sorry if I didn't help!
no thanks thats exactly what i needed to know
looks like a wad of cash will need to be parted from my person soon lol
thanks again.
You welcome Ace.. I did nothing
If you are willing to buy MMC, consider this 2GB MMC with read speed about 150X (22.5MB/s) and write speed greater than 120X (18MB/s)! Its WOoOoOoOooOoOoOoOoW 8)

Memory & MMC Cards
Reading this post has made me wonder exactly what I've got on my XDA2. Windows is only 9MB? I don't seem to have as much space left on mine as it seems I should
I have:-
27MB in MyDocuments
28 MB in Programs (Calculated by adding up the program sizes listed in ActiveSync).
I don't have any Mutilmedia Messages on there, and i empty the Internet Explorer temporay files regularly, however, my xda2 still only reports that I have 40MB free. 126 - ( 27+28 ) - 9 (windows) = 62, not 40.
Is there any PC app that can link to the xda2 and find out exactly how big each folder is, or where all the space is going to?
Also, with the MMC card you posted, is there any particular ROM version needed for larger MMC Cards? I was wondering if there is any limitations on the size of card the xda2 can handle.
Come on guys!
Windows is not 9MB nor 14MB !!!!!!!
If the ROM image size is 32MB, so windows size would be something around that (~30 or 31 MB)!
My windows folder size (on my XDA I device) now is 69MB!
Try to navigate to Windows directory using Total Commander & then select all files inside it & choose Properties. It will give you the total size of the files.
The installation programs copy their system & common files to Windows folder everytime you install a program. Also the Database files are there inside, growing & growing. So this folder gets bigger & bigger over time...!
I guess that huge MMC doesn't need any special software to operate it. They've said that it works for all handheld & wireless devices..
Anyone knows from where to buy this mammoth MMC card?
Wait a min.... how come my windows folder size is 69MB and all what I have on my device is 64MB RAM ?????? :?
Seems Total Commander is faulty!!!!
what is being displayed as the size of the windows dir is BOTH
ram and rom
2Gb mmc is just insane. 1Gb ones retail for around £400 so i'd hate to think what you'd fork out for double that.
Yeah I guess so, but XDA supports 2GB memory cards, since I saw a program in handango.com which supports formating them
But sometimes you need huge space! my 256 MMC card is almost full, I need larger space
also it gets wiped every 1 or 2 weeks
damn Windows!!!!!
what do yo u mean by wiped? something causes it to lose all its data? or are you doing it purposely?
Yes the card got wiped by itself without any external interfer!!!!
Its a bug in Windows Mobile 2003!!!!!
the reason i asked is cus something like that just happened to me!!!
My card had all my data on it, then for no reason file explorer nor activesync would not let me view anything. Memory management showed data on card but i could not access it! Even storagetools had problems with the card. i had to hard reset my machine for it to work!
Are they planning to fix this?
No there's no need to hard reset your device!
Just format the SD card & it will work again!
I guess this bug will be fixed in Windows Mobile 2003 SE (well, i hope so  )
XDA2 memory
Hi Guys!
I have changed my XDA2 memory to give more to program memory since I have a MMC card. I dun seemed to see Windows switching back to the original ratio.
Also need your comments on some files like the MSGQueue_SMS which is eating into data storage. What are those files? Can they be in MMC card?
MSGQueue_SMS is an essential process for the SMS reception, and also cannot reside on storage card since it runs at startup!
I have the same problem regarding memory management! I just HARD RESET my device, and I gain back the free memory again :?
1. if anyone sends me a picture logo message on sms i am unable to view that message can this problem be fixed.
2. i have a 128 mb sd card installed. the software i loaded are on SD Card. now when i check the memory on system it says 3.83 mb free. and cannot run some games as it says not enough memory. what to do to fix this problem.
3. is it possible to make sd card as a default ROM. if so how?
thanks
aamer sheikh
following are the current specs.
WALABY
MODEL SIEMENS SX-56
ROM VERSION 3.17.03 ENG
RADIO VERSION A.20.10
PROTOCOL VERSION 324e4
1. if anyone sends me a picture logo message on sms i am unable to view that message can this problem be fixed.
Yes, but the solution is not good at all..
It is just theoretically possible..
One must create software that takes over your SMS functionality.
Such a hack would not be very pretty..
2. i have a 128 mb sd card installed. the software i loaded are on SD Card. now when i check the memory on system it says 3.83 mb free. and cannot run some games as it says not enough memory. what to do to fix this problem.
Start -> Settings -> System ->Memory
Use the slider to make more space available for "Program"
3. is it possible to make sd card as a default ROM. if so how?
Huh?
ROM = Read Only Memory..
Activate "Lock" on your SD card, and it's "Read Only"..
But I seriously doubt that this is what you are thinking about.
If you are thinking of booting from the SD card, then the answer is "no"..
If you are thinking of something else; please rephrase your question.
I have two 8GB Sandisk MicroSD card killed by my HD2 (i think so). Anybody faces the same prob? The cards are totally dead now after using it in my HD2 for a few days...
No such experience.
Good to know the Bland and model.
You mean brand?
Try to format it on your pc...
I had the same Isue.. could not format it on xp pc only on windows 7 pc..
mos of the time if you let you put it in your card reader and its recognized.. you just have to let it scan for errors and let it fix them..
Sometimes my cardreader fails to detecet my card. I don't think this is related to my HD2, atleast I don't hope so.
Not had it...yet...on my sandisk 8GB MicroSD. This is the one straight out of a Nokia 5800. The 2GB one which cam with my HD2 went tits up after I tried to import a playlist from WMP onto it. Seems I'm not alone with this issue either...
For the first time I can report a problem with my HTC HD2.
I also seem to have a problem with my 8Gb Scandisk card. It seems either my telephone or my laptop screwed the card up.
I have standard stock last rom available in Holland manilla 2.5 Rom 1.66. No special things installed.
The card works almost 100% except when I go to the tap music. Then hell breaks loose. The phone looks for the music files. But cannot find them and then suddenly the phone cannot recognize the card anymore? I have to restart the phone before it can recognize the card again. This only happens when I go to Music.
But the damage is done anyway. Cause when I insert card in laptop or computer. I can see the files but according to the computer there empty (which is not the case). I cannot copy or cut while in card is inserted in the computer.
I accepted this problem cause I have a good working TomTom on it which someone else installed for me. If I format the card I cannot put it back.
Try to format your card, I did this from my laptop (if it can reorganize it) and NOT chose FAST. Becouse if there is a problem with the card it will simply skip it. This is also a golden rule when you install new OS on a old or well used laptop.
Copy the tomtom folders to a folder on your PC before formatting, then copy back...done
I have a 8GB Sandisk card, I've had it on 3 plones now, using it for about 3 years, still works like a charm.
To the OP, maybe you got fake ones, Sandisk is the most counterfeit memory card brand, if you got them on ebay or so and not in a respectable street shop they might be fakes, for which that kind of failures are typical.

I have this problem, and I went back to HTC. I got a new phone replacement and everything is fine thereafter. =)
I had a problem with 3 different Kingston 8GB cards.
Statred working fine, but after writing more then 2GB to them, they suddenly died.
I tried all of them in the phone and in a card reader, and they acted the same way.
As a final test - I used a SanDisk card, and it works just fine from the time I got it.
So - maybe, you just have defective cards ?
Did you try formatting the cards in the phone and not in the PC ?
I have the same problem. If i put the files on my sd card from my pc there seem to be no problem. After I check these files on my phone, they are damaged or the folder is empty. So.. anyone has suggestions what to do?
Same experience here.
8Gb was working fine the first two days (the card that was included with my HD2)
Then, for no reason got a pop-up (invalid card type, do you want to format?)
At forst I said "no" and tried with my computer... None of the 6 software I used could save my card. Was definatly dead.
Put a second one in (1Gb, just to make sure), it's been a week, and I already get errors when I write. It's like the micro SD is on read only (though ther's no switch to set it back to "write mode")
One of the many (many many many) bugs of my HD2
i had the same problem. the 8gb SanDisk microsd card that originally comes with my htc hd 2 is now useless. lost a lot of pics, cab & songs. it can't even be read by card reader on my laptop. is this some kind of bug?? now im using another 8gb card & hope it wont happen again. im glad though that im not the only one having the problem
And i thought i was the only one. My 8GB only lasted for 1 day before it went died. Had to get a replacement from Service Center. The staff seem to handle it in a very fast manner (guess i am not the only one to get the SD card replaced recently!!)
My guess is i did a hard reset on the phone with the SD card in it. Anyone else did the same thing?
My card has been corrupted twice no the HD2 leading to:
1) Very poor performance
2) Very warm phone
3) Very fast draining battery
I believe it was due to the power saving features enabled to do with the microsd as someone else mentioned on this forum.
its a manufactures defect. something should be done. lots of users are getting this problem now, including me
maybe i know the answer..
sorry for my bad english..
I've the same problem. But searching from all forums, finally i get the answer. just find n download EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Proffessional 4.3.6 (for 5 MB). Insert the mmc in card reader, use this software to recovery all the missing file (choose Complete Recovery Option). After recovery process done, use software LLFTool (for 600kb, just doing some browsing at google) to Low Level Format the mmc (this LLFTool can recognize the mmc). After all done, Windows can recognize again the mmc at windows explorer. Just right click and choose quick format (format FAT32). Done, you can use the mmc like the new one

thanks for your help. i tried your solution but it doesn't work. neither the EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional nor LLFTool detect the memory card. i think there's nothing to be done for the card. just hope htc will sort that out
I have also recently had an issue with my 8gb Sandisk Micro SD card.
It has been working fine for a while now, then yesterday when I went to pick up my phone, I noticed my S2U2 unlock screen was black instead of having my usual wallpaper there. My HD2 had just suddenly decided it can't recognise the card anymore and tells me I need to format it for it to be readable.
I pressed 'no' and tried to read the card on several computers as I wanted to transfer all data off before formatting it, but it would not read on any of them, nor would it work in my old N95.
I don't understand why this has happened, it has been working fine no probs, had about 3gb left on it still and have not recently installed anything on it - very annoyed as I have lost lots of recent photos of my 6month old boy which I cant get back now.
Have had to order a new card and hope this doesn't happen again, but not a happy bunny
I'm hoping someone can help me here. I've recently installed Cool BravoS v10 in order to finally give myself more space on my phone, but now I've finished, there's no change in the reported size of my Internal Storage. Is this normal?
My phone is a HTC Desire.
I formatted a 16GB Class6 SD card with GParted Live, exactly as described.
I "S-off"ed my phone with Revolutionary.
I then wiped data/cache/delvik.
I then flashed installed Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip. Then Cool_Alignment_2.zip. Then CoolBravos10. Then snq's 111118. Then Framework-LowLS-Bat-BS789.
I rebooted and everything appears perfect, apart from this one issue. Did I do something wrong?
Thanks for any help.
Just go to add some further details: I formatted my 16GB SD card so that the first partition was FAT32 ~15GB, and the second partition was 4EXT 1GB using GParted Live. I did it exactly the way the tutorial described.
When I go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Downloaded it says at the bottom:
14MB used - 133MB free
Surely it should say ~900MB free?
Should I reformat my SD card and see if anything changes? Should I start over completely from scratch?
Great! This morning all my downloaded apps disappeared... including the Android Marketplace. WTF?
Hi all,
I've just received my HTC desire x, checking the specs there is written
that the internal memory should be 4GB, but I have just 1GB.
the total space shows 1.09 GB (screenshot attached)
on the HTC website there's written
Total storage: 4 GB, available capacity varies*
and then *Available storage is less due to phone software.
Is it possible that the OS takes 3GB? Seems a bit too much for me...
Any idea?
Thanks all in advance

This is correct man. There is no issue or problem. The system takes ~3gb. Cos imagine when you are factory resetting your phone. The original OS file (called ROM) will reside in that memory with a whole lot of other backup stuff which you cant access.
This is why ppl use CUSTOM ROMS, cos we remove bloatware and other things.
What you see in that screenshot is same as mine and as other. Just buy an external card and it will rock
and please go to about > software update > PRESS CHECK NOW even though "Scheduled Check" is ticked cos there are updates and possibly u have one waiting also.

^ +1.
anyway i cant see why 1gb isnt enough for apps and games. if you have a sd card, it will be more than enough because of the ability to move apps to sd.

Thanks man all doubts vanished now,
does it mean that once rooted (I haven't seen any good rom around yet, please advise if you know any)
I can partition the internal memory? Or it's better not to partition anything for a smoother and faster phone?
Thanks again
Yes 4GB in these mount points:
dev - 303MB
cache - 251MB
data 1,1GB
internal memory (emmc) - 1,1GB
system/942MB
Plus a few more like radio boot and / mount point. It's up around 4GB.
i think you want this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD
with that app. you will no longer have to worry about low internal storage again. i use that all the time on my previous phone who has low internal memory (400mb below). but with des x i dont need it. 1gb internal memory are a lot!

Is it possible to reformat partitions? Why not to have internal memory (emmc) - 1,1GB and system/942MB merged? I'm not using emmc, cuz I have SDCard for all my stuff, so 1,1 Gb are empty, but I have insufficient space on system.
