I've tried searching this issue with no luck, surprisingly! I thought it would be more common.
Anyway, when I boot up my Nexus One, it takes <Sandlot>FOR-EVV-ERRR</Sandlot> to mount my SD card. I've got most of my apps on that card, so it's super annoying!
Like I've said, I've got a bunch of apps (40?) loaded on to this card, a few documents, 4 CDs... random stuff. I haven't formatted the card in a looong time... nor have I wiped the phone in a loooong time. I am a crackflasher - I flash a new ROM every day, but I VERY RARELY have issues, so that's why I haven't wiped in so long. This is really the only issue I have, and, if somebody knows the command, I would be happy to just mount the SD manually through the terminal when I need it to.
The phone is a Nexus One. I'm running a CM7.1(or whatever it is) based ROM and kernel. The SD card is the 16gig one that came with the phone.
Any help is appreciated!
Billy
Cliffnotes: What's the terminal command to mount the SD card to the phone? So the ROM can access it?
Ok, so I guess I diagnosed this issue... after rebooting my phone and waiting for my apps to become available I was able to, through the settings menu, view the space used/available on the SD card. Sooo... it is mounted? And the delay is just Android loading the apps from the SD card? How can I speed that up?
Thanks,
Billy

Have you tried increasing the read and write speed of your sd card?

Like by buying a faster one?
Thank you for the reply,
Billy
You increase the read/write speed by increasing the SD card cache size. You can use an SD speed boost app to do so easily, there are a couple on the market. There's also a script that you can run.
I had a similar issue. I've been running the same rom for over six months, and initially just flashed updates over the existing version and only wiped caches. I'd strongly recommend that you go ahead and perform a full wipe. It may seem like a pain, but I am 95%, certain that it will fix your issue. Just backup your apps & data with Titanium Backup and after you've completely wiped & flashed your new rom only restore what you need. Weeding out unused apps should speed up your phone as well. You can always restore them if you need them.

Hi, I've been wondering why my P500 on the stock rom 2.3.3 has been taking about 4 minutes to boot! Well I just tried booting without the SD card and it booted up in about 30 seconds! Does anyone know why? most of my apps are on the SD, I also have some music. But the SD is 16gb and a class 10 from SanDisk.
Any incite would be a great help.

Well used you should be capable to get the combined storage app space of the internal and external sd
I have installed asphalt 7, tdkr, mc4, vice city, amazing spiderman, nfs most wanted, wild blood just pointing the heavier ones (20 games right now) and I have 5.3 gb free on internal sd plus much more on the ext
I'm already counting that your phone is rooted, your external sd is a good one for game performance and you know what you're doing to get this working

It seems that you missed some of the updates of the app, when you mount it ONCE it kepps there always, there's an option to set on boot and auto-dismount /re-mount when you plug / unplug from PC so no worries at all at any time, since I first insalled that app 3 weeks ago I never went back to set nothing, why would you mount and unmount each time? or is another app which you are talking about

but i just did the swap so I dont know if ill go back to app, but thanks for the suggestion will keep it in mind for future use
Hi,
Just this night I've been using my sdcard in a normal way, browsing internet, downloading files when suddenly my phone couldn't boot after flashing bootanimation (zip made by trusted developer so that's not the problem). Now when I connect my SD Card to the phone it will either say "preparing sdcard" forever or just simply freeze phone after few seconds. I tryed to connect it via working adapter with my PC to back it up... After copying few files sdcards unmounts from the reader... I've tryed on XP and it shows some command errors while trying to copy files in a regular way. I was ONCE able to flash few zips via recovery in order to make my phone boot up again it worked. Now I'm scanning my SD Card using Norton Internet security 2013 - Paid version - not cracked, and the sdcard seems to stay mounted to the PC. Unfortunately after trying to copy files from SD Card to PC it just freezes explorer.exe and unmounts itself...
Please help me, I really have some important pictures on this sd card
PS. 32 GB SanDisk Class 10 UHS-I (grey and red one)
PS. 2 I was using swap partition, maybe my sdcard went dead from constant reads and writes?
PS. 3 Using linux I managed to copy 81 MB... then any copying froze but ubuntu didn't... Damn, thats weird
It appears to randomly stop reading from SD Card as now it stopped at 153,1MB out of 422MB, all thumbnails of photos were shown properly though.
well first connect ur sdcard to an old mobile you have then connect mobile to computer
backup your data then use a partition tool to delete partition of sdcard then recreate it as FAT32 partition and try to put sdcard to your mobile again
if still, then wipe data/factory reseyt your rom
if doesn't work then let me know
Sent From My U8160 using xda-developers app
Well, connecting to an old mobile isnt an option as the SDCARD does the same thing even on xperia T which isnt that bad and that Xperia T never had this sdcard connected before.
I'd love to backup my data, but I can't
Full rom wipe and reflash fresh was done straight after getting problems with this sdcard.
Unfortunately it still doesn't work
I got the error I was talking about!

EDIT: I'm trying to recover photos and movies (most important files) via BadCopy Pro, any other recommendations if it wouldn't work?
EDIT2: It seems that when I'm slowly copying data (scanning sectors) sdcard doesn't seem to unmount or do other crazy stuff, any other suggestions so I'll keep file names and structure? I don't care much about copying time, I can run copying going all night.
I've recovered like 90% of data. Afterwards I've tried to perform Low Level Format... But this goddamn sdcard had to eject just at the start, therefore partitions got deleted, I'm trying to rebuild bootsector with testdisk but it takes ages, even after looking at tutorials online it takes so long to rebuild bootsector, no idea why...
I just realised that im one of the "lucky" guys which have got faulty sdcard. It happens to small amount (they say) of sandisk ultra 32&64GB owners...

Yeah, Ive already written to sandisk but their 2 final and most important messages were one in german abd second in english. Im glad that i have a private teacher which helps me in german and is getting me ready for FCE exam so he can translate german to normal language
Another problem is that this card was a gift on my name day and im not sure when it has been bought although i know where. Thats my problem now but you definitely cant help me with it.

I would like to start my own personal conversation about this because either every other one I find has no conclusion or just falls off
I have low storage space is what my phone says and when I look at it.. Its tiny.
As IN
142 MB small ... The worst part is I have a 64gb SD card and that literally helps nothing in this situation
And then when I go into ES manager it says I have at least 3 gbs. but whats weird is Safestrap says 6 GB open for another rom if needed
Which I checked and I only have one active so thats good there
So where can I go to free up some space
PM would be GREAT or google hangouts or something
THANKS EVERYONE

Are you booted into a Safestrap slot (i.e. 3 Gb)? How many applications are you trying to install on top of the ROM?
You're mixing numbers up a bit, so it's hard to tell what you're seeing.
Safestrap is reporting 6 Gb free: that's the amount of internal storage that's available for new slots, which is only available to the stock rom.
When you build a slot using Safestrap, it's fixed in size (3 Gb) so if you load a lot of applications on top of your ROM, you can fill that slot up very quickly.
The ES File manager reporting 3 Gb - is that booted on the stock slot, or a custom ROM slot?

Here are a few pics of what I see
That 15Gb of "Miscellaneous" files - do you have a bunch of ROM images on your internal memory? Or a bunch of nandoid backups?
Other than that, using the Disk Usage app that decaturbob mentioned is a good tool to use to discover where the storage is going.
Holy sh*t 15 gig of misc. Definitely use disk usage. You can keep clicking through until you see what that 15 gigs is made up of. I think ES let's you do that too.

Been running the latest ViSiON-X. Chugging along as normal when I decided to switch launchers, went from Buzz Launcher back to Nova Prime. Things started acting kinda weird so I tried reinstalling Buzz Launcher from a TB, thing just hung there and didn't install the backup. I'm trying to remember the order of my actions within the last 24 hours, I've been very ill past few days so my mind's a bit fuzzy. I did flash comadose either before or after I discovered this issue with Titanium Backup.
In any case, I decided to reflash the ROM and after I signed back in to Google I downloaded TB and tried to restore my backups. Nothing. No backup found and I couldn't even set my backup folder to my external SD any longer for some reason. I even had trouble installing the paid version or key for Titanium Backup Pro, either the install will fail with some kind of SD storage error message (forgive me I can't remember exactly what it said) or the install would just hang and not finish. I had to restart and keep trying until it finally installed. Ugh...
I've no idea what happened. I fixed permissions but that didn't work. I tried editing the permission file by adding the media line: <group gid="media_rw" /> but that didn't work.
The apps themselves wont be such a big deal reinstalling but the data was quite precious. The other major issue is even now I still can't set my Titanium Backup location to external SD. I've no idea why this has changed in the last 24 hours. I'm at a lost.

When I'd try scanning the entire device it would just hang on 9% and not move.
*UPDATE*
I formatted my external SD card. Before I did I checked the size of all my files and it was almost 500MB. I have no media there, I was using my external solely for my TB files so it seems the apps and data was there but no way for me to reinstall to my phone through TB.
Oh well, starting from scratch now. Reinstalling all my apps one by one from the Play Store. I still need to get an idea on what happened here and why TB was stuck on 9% like that when I was trying to scan the entire device. Other than the problem of using my external SD for my backups once again I would still appreciate help getting answers for everything else I mentioned above. Thanks guys!
Even though my data from my apps is lost FO EVA it feels nice starting from scratch. Kinda like enjoying a nice long shower after a crazy night partying but regretting to lose that girl's number she wrote on your hand. I've even configured my phone in a different way than before and I like it better. Still, I'd love to figure out what the heck happened so I don't have to go through this again. Any help would be appreciated.
download an app called sdfix and it worked like a charm. Now I can do titanium backup's on my external sd card. SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
Thanks for that! After formatting my external SD I was able to set Titanium Backup to it but I'll still keep this app on hand in case I have problems in the future. I'm still not any closer to finding out why the phone was hanging at 9% when I tried to scan the entire device looking for my previous backup or why I started having problems applying my backups before. It seemed to happen out of nowhere. Perhaps comadose had something to do with it I don't know.

AFAIK if you have your sd card formatted to ext2-4 and the system runs into a filesystem error, it sets the partition to read-only. maybe that happened here?

"Other" is anything on internal storage that doesn't fit the description of the other categories. The ROM alone is probably a GB or more. Also did you make a Titanium backup, or nandroid? Those take up storage, also.
I like to keep a known good ROM or nandroid (but not both, as that is excessive) on internal storage or removable SD, in case anything goes wrong I can restore with one of those (although you can pretty easily get it on the phone or SD if needed, so its just for convenience). But aside from that, its not necessary to keep the ROM zip.

Did you outright delete the nandroid, or at least move/copy to your computer or SD first? You have 17 GB free, so unless you make a copy, discarding backup data for the sake of unneeded space seems like a poor trade-off.
Do you understand that flashing a ROM does not wipe the internal storage? So anything you saved there before the flash is still there. Unless you choose the option in recovery to wipe storage, which will then of course cause you to lose any personal data stored there (backups, photos, etc.).

There are various apps to look at storage, but I find that one to have a cool and useful interface:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&hl=en
It visually shows you how much space a folder is taking up, and you can then tap on it to drill down.
