Queer display problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have a weird problem with my SGS2. A few days after I flashed Lite'ning Rom v6.1, my phone's display went haywire. I cannot switch the display on, but the phone is working i.e. backlight notification works, vibration works.
I can boot the phone and hear the bootup sounds and everything, just that the screen is off.
In the rare event that it manages to switch on, the display's off color (colors not as rich, black is slightly off etc)
I've tried reflashing the rom, as well as flashing the stock sgs2 rom/kernel and Sensation Rom, but I still get the same problem.
Can anyone help me out here?

Your screen is probably bust, go exchange it if you have warranty.

[Q] Strange display colours

Lately my phone began to show toxic colours, sometimes the whole screen has a green or a pink layer above the image or even a decreased resolution. After I turn off\on the display everything returns to normal or the display doesn't turn on at all.
I've been using a Bi-Winning V2 Rom on the OverStock 2.4.1 kernel for a month or so and didn't have any problems until now. This problem started while my phone was turned on, it didn't fall and no changes were made to it.
I tried to wipe cache\factory reset, flashed once again the same Rom but nothing changed. The phone can work normally for some time and then the display just doesn't turn on or displays a strange colours. I don't even know if the problem is in hardware or software.
Any suggestions?
hardware.

Odin back to Stock.......... if the problem persists then, you will know it is a hardware problem
If that fixes it the, flash a different rom............

display crash when calling

We have here a i9300 phone from which the display turns black (as if the screen is switched off) when there is a call being made. The call can not be ended because of the black screen. Home button wont help to switch the screen back to the home screen and the only thing which helps to get the screen back is when the call is answered and the other end hangs up. This happens on different firmware, factory reset did not help. Happens on Omega ROM and om CM10 ROM ... and even on stock which we just flashed back on it. Looks like the proximity chip gets confused and seem to think the phone is kept to the ear. So different Modems have the same result ... Any idea what might be wrong? ... Hardware bug?

Is this Android, App or Hardware

Hi Everyone,
So I noticed not to long back that my phone has been changing brightness without the brightness bar moving. For instance I unlocked my phone moments ago and my screen was very bright. I went into my brightness settings and looked at the bar was set at 60%. As soon as I touch the brightness bar the screen dims back down to where it's supposed to be.
Now I am thinking this is purely a software issue but I am still a little worried. I have a Galaxy S3 Optus AU. It is running the LF2 firmware and is not rooted or modified. I have turned off auto brightness and power saving for the screen and this problem still persists.
Has anyone else suffered any such issues with there device?

sry my fault...read to quick
hmm the only thinng i can imagine on the go is...has been your battery been on a very low amount of percentage
because i think the power saving mode is changing the brightnes on its own
No the battery was at 90% when it happened last. I have factory reset the device to see if it fixes the issue.
OK the issue is still happening. Altho I have now noticed that it happens when unlocking the phone. If I re lock the phone and then unlock it. It's back to normal.
Well...even stock firmware is not protected to crash or do sth it shouldnt do by the way
so think about a clean install of the rom or a software update this might fix your problem

[Q] Screen very dim after unlocking?

Hello,
the following problem appears when i try to unlock the phone after some hours: i can see my home screen, but the screen stays extremely dim. When i try to start an app (e.g. browser) the screen turns black. I can unlock it again, but the screen stays dim. after some unlocking the screen becomes normal (normal brightness) and also the apps are startable.
i am using autobrightness, the stock firmware, 4.1.1 (i9300xxdlih) power saver is not turned on.
thx, i hope you can help me solving this problem

i updated mobile phone to android versiopn 4.1.2. this morning. Unfortunately the problem still appears.
Maybe its a hardware defect?
Try to disable somehow light sensor and change settings to non auto brightness.

i disabled auto brightness and set the brightness to the highest level. But its still same: very dim and after a while a black screen; after a few times of unlocking, the display works normally
I have just seen the same issue on a friend's S3.
Anyone else? I feel like this is a very big issue that is still lurking in a lot of devices.
I tried it myself and I toggled the power button to turn the screen on and off.
It doesn't take long but sometimes when the screen turns back on, it's super dim and you can faintly see the lockscreen image.
You have to cycle the screen several more times to get it to the 'correct' brightness, and no it is NOT a brightness setting.
It's some hardware issue in the phone.
Sorry for the necrobump, but I only found this thread. I have this problem too since about a week back. It makes my phone useless at times. I first thought it was a software issue. I have an app (called Twilight) for dimming the screen more than normal settings and also toning it, for nightime use, and I thought that was the culprit first, but nope. I have flashed rom, recovery, wiped all caches I can think of. Still happens, just now I was in the middle of installing android revolution hd, and the screen ultradimmed on me so I can't finish the process
Thing is, a few months ago I managed to crack my screen by way of gravity and concrete. I let the samsung brand service centre in Stockholm repair it for me (it is out of warranty) and this issue with the dimming never happened before that. Then again, it didn't happen directly afterwards either... but still. So, I am thinking: either me dropping it caused more damages and this is because of that. Or the service center did a bad install of the new screen. Or, the replacement screen that was installed has a defect in itself. I am leaning a bit towards the third explanation... maybe different batches of screens?
Does anyone have any ideas? If I am to contact the service center and complain about their work I would like to be able to point towards a "known problem"...

Take it back, if it didn't happen before then the new screen is most likely.
It isn't a common problem

Poco F1: Screen sometimes to dark to see anything

Hi,
I have the following problem: The screen of the phone is sometimes very dark after unlocking, so dark that I can see almost nothing. I then have to lock the phone again and unlock it again, and after a few attempts it is then as bright as it should be. The automatic brightness control is switched off.
The problem occurred a few weeks ago, in the beginning only when the phone was charged, but now also in normal operation.
I am using the AOSPExtended ROM, could this be a ROM problem or is this more of a hardware problem?
Thanks, jennix
