[Q] Memory and Android Recovery issues. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I own an Atrix which is rooted on stock froyo 2.2.2 from Brazilian carrier Claro.
I tried to install CWM with Rom Manager but after my device rebooted I got the Failed to Boot 2 error message, so I flashed to bootloader with IHOP_bell.sbf (didn't unlock it) and it booted again but now the phone only recognizes 373mb of ram and I cant enter Android Recovery, it shows the Failed to Boot 2 error message again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your time!

Fixed.
If you have a similar issue after trying to install CWM with Rom Manager:
(YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA)
1. Acquire a full sbf of the rom you have installed.
2. Download RSDLite 5.5.
4. Open RSDLite 5.5, click "..." and select your sbf.
5. With a full charge, plug your phone in and reboot your phone holding volume up.
6. Wait for RSDLite to recognize it.
7. Click start and wait.
Everything should be fine now
At this point is good to mention CWM is not to blame for this AFAIK since I can install it from the APK just fine. Rom Manager was the one who screwed up big time.

[Q] Help Installing 1.9

Hello, I need some help trying to install the 1.9 ROM. I just purchased a Dell streak coming from an Iphone. Because of a deteriorating eye condition the big screen is a blessing. I bought it used on ebay. It originally had stock 1.6 which i upgraded to stock 2.2 (340) by downloading and running the pkg file. It was very easy to do. Im an att customer this is the relevant information regarding my version of 2.2 .
Version 2.2
Baseband GAUSB1A134031-US
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build 14844
I have read through these forums extensively particularly the "how to" forums for days. After reading all the various variations for upgrading the rom (my phone lags and i want to see if the rom upgrade will fix this) I developed what I though was the proper procedure for installing 1.9. These are the steps i followed:
1. Install Android Drivers
2. Enter Fastboot mode
3. Installed Clockword Mod Recvery
4. Loaded the install txt file and 1.9 zip file on root of sd card.
5. Flashed the Clockword Mode Recovery IMG using fastboot. Fastboot said recovery was "done"
6. Rebooted.
7. Went into recovery mode by pressing Volume UP and Down and power button
8. Chose option 2 upgrade from SD card.
now its my understanding that doing so was supposed to take me to the clockmod recovery screen which would then give me the option of upgrading from the zip file. Instead I get a message in light blue which says in part
"Android System recovery utility GAUSb1a134031
To perform emergency software recovery you will need to insert SD card"
I then pull the battery and reboot and it boots up fine into the stock 2.2.
Now the question is what am i doing wrong. Im thinking that maybe its the baseband? and that I need to flash a new baseband. If anyone can help it with some guidance it would be much appreciated.
3.
Once you flash Clockwork you cannot let it boot. The OS will over-rite Clockwork. As soon as you flash Clockwork, hold both volume buttons down while it is rebooting. Selet option 2 and you should get the Clockwork menu.
Thank you i will give that a try
Didnt work. I do the fastboot recovery flash which it indicates is done. I then give the flashboot reboot command As soon as it starts rebooting i hit the volume up and down and power buttons but it still reboots into stock 2.2. I don't even get the recovery screen
Fuigured it out i only needed tto hold the volume buttons. Now im there thanks again
Hmm, you should be getting a recovery menu either way. The only thing I can think of is to try and hold both volume and power buttons down at the same time. This is how I normally access the recovery menu when not flashing the reboot comand. If thats not it, may be an issue with the recovery image. Have you considered StreakMod Recovery?

Phone Will not charge unless I reboot

My phone will only charge AC or USB if I do a reboot. If it is up and running it will not charge.. nor will it be recognized by the PC unless I do a reboot... Is there a file that needs to be replaced or setting somewhere? It started a few weeks ago when I flashed back to 1.26, OTA'd to 1.57(started then), then to 1.83.. I then OTA'd to 2.3.4 but it did not take because I had moddified the /System folder with a boot animation...
I am currently on Ninja 4.4 Unlocked and Rooted with Faux OC Kernel...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all..
Also CWM will not work on my phone.. try to get into Android recovery and it just sits at "Entering Android Recovery Mode" use Root Manager or ACS Updater to flash ROMS since I cannot get into CWM(Help with that needed too Thanks!
Update... Still won't charge unless I reboot...
I am now able to boot into CWM, but only if I use the CWM installed via ROM Manager.. If I flash Tenfar's I get stuck on the "Entering Android Recovery Mode".. If I use the one in ROM Manager and am plugged in via AC.. I can get into CWM?!?!!? Any ideas on the charging and CWM? Thank you.
I have the same issue as you...only way I can get the phone to charge when its on is to recover from a nandroid backup. I believe a file or kernel is corrupted from when I did the root. I have the amoled version, which do you have?
I finally have my system charging without having to reboot!!!
I had to flash the a full SBF with Pudding from HERE after wiping all data, cache, and dalvik cache. Flashed via RSD Lite.
Still having issues with CWM not wanting to come up. I have been able to get CWM come up plugged into an AC charger using the version loaded by ROM Manager. If I flash any other CWM I get stuck at the Dual Core Screen with "Entering Android Recovery" But i am in recovery if I check via ADB when connected to a PC... I shows my device and shows "recovery" state. So it is getting into recovery. I just don't see the menu on my phone screen.. Any ideas?!?!? Thanks!

soft brick help please

Hello All I am stuck in a soft brick I believe. I was in rom toolbox and tried to change my gps icon and the start up boot screen and it send the phone in to a bunch of force closes. Either way I am running 2.3.6 on 4.5.141 ATT. I am able to get to the recovery screen and I have already wiped user data and did the format from the recovery screen and that didn't help. With fast boot I did a wipe command which showed successful and then rebooted and I am still stuck on the dual core moto screen. So I have now I am following this tutorial [HOW TO] Use RSD Lite to Flash a SBF File - Motorola Atrix I have downloaded all of the drivers and files. I power on the device and put it in fast boot mode and it says starting fastboot protocol support. My device model shows up as fastboot port #1 usb and status connected. nothing in device properties. I get to the c drive where i located the file and hit start and it says "failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve interface handle. (0x7027) phone connected. result fail. obviously. any help would be appreciated. Would a good idea to be just copy an update zip to an sd card and install from the recovery. sorry i'm a noob in a little over my head. thanks in advance
jesse
I would try flashing the latest Atrix-CWM-based recovery, then either FruitCake (2.3.4 is stable) or NottachTrix's ROM via recovery. before flashing, however, wipe cache/dalvik cache, and factory data/reset.

[Q] no os installed after "root"

tmobile htc one
So here goes.
i followed all the instructions in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268963) , no problem at all. i've rooted other phones so i sorta know the drill.
1.) unlock token - no problem done
2.) i installed the twrp recovery and got it working
3.) i downloaded the .zip of the super user, plugged phone into pc, created a folder called SU on my phone, flashed into recovery, installed the su file.
4.) im a tmob user so i went to install the kernals, i went to (http://faux.androidro.ms/m7/jb43/) but was unsure if i needed both of them or one, i downloaded ( m7-faux123-GE-005u.zip ) , installed that on a folder on my phone, rebooted into recovery, wiped and then flashed that.
however now the phone locks up on my splash screen (green htc letteers white back ground).
also of note:
while in recovery when i reboot system it says " No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?"
if i select yes then it says
"Your device does not appear to be rooted. Install SuperSU now? This will root your device."
regardless of whatever i hit weather to install or not install it goes to the HTC splash screen (htc in green, white background) and freezes, at bottom in red it says
"this build is for dev purposes only yadda yadda yadda"
it never advances from this screen.
i cant get my pc to recognize my phone while in recovery to copy over cyanogen 10.1 and gapps so that i can flash those. i am stuck.
anyone got any suggestions?

Well did you flash a ROM or not? It says in Step 2 at the end you HAVE to flash a ROM

I don't see where you are reading that. step 2 is all about getting a recovery up and running. no i did not flash a rom which is why i am where i am. if i had a rom to flash i wouldnt get the "no os installed" message.
installed sdk and used adb push to force rom and g apps onto phone, flashed through recovery, all is well.

XT910/GSM bricked? Tried RSD Lite

I decided to flash a factory image since the GPS was not working anymore with whatever ROM I tried, plus random problems. The phone was previously set up with CM10.1 and BMM.
Installed RSD Lite, Moto drivers, downloaded several stock ROMs.
From the factory recovery mode I cannot flash any of those zip files so I proceed with RSD lite. I flashed "9.8.2O-124_SPUEM-14_S7_USASPDRICS01O2UKE1007.0R_USASPDRJBO2GB_P013_A012_p2b_S1FF_fb.xml.zip" which is a retail UK JB image. The phone shows the very first boot screen (red logo) and then the screen goes blank. The computer still sees an MTP device, though only in device manager.
I've tried installing other images but they are an older type (ICS I guess, 01.6.7.2-180&01.6.5.1-167) and RSD shows an error while trying to flash the first file from the archive.
Oh, I still have the "Customer error: contact dealer" on the first boot screen, I think this was from a ICS to JB upgrade with CID deletion(?).
I've already flashed twice using RSD, deleted cache+data, rebooted and left the phone to start up for ten of minutes, don't know what to do. RSD lite reports that flashing was ok.
been there

Did you erase CID?
if you did yo need to boot in a different way
U did a factory reset in stock recovery? U cannot flash a ics image after flashing jb via rsd. Try again jb EU image than go to stock recovery and perform the wipes
Tapped from my RazR
Got it "fixed", finally. I had to go back into the stock boot/recovery menu and choose "BP Tools", last option from the menu and then it booted normally.
I still have to do this after each reboot because it boots to the black screen: hold the three buttons together until it flashes (which means a hard reboot), let go of the power button, press power button again while the other two are still pressed.
On the plus side the GPS started working again after factory reflash which it was kind of expected since the same chip is providing also WiFi and bluetooth which were running fine.
I have a root question: the device was rooted with the virtual machine procedure but after a factory reset the root was lost. I had saved it using Voodoo RootKeeper and the app shows: superuser installed, device rooted, /system supports root protection, protected su available. The "root permission granted" checkbox is disabled though and no application is able to retrieve the root. The su binary is in both /bin and /xbin so I don't understand how it can not function.
Edit: ok, got it, the su binary has -rwsr-sr-x and the owner is root so random users cannot execute it. I also cannot change the permissions so I probably have to root again and figure out a way to keep the root after a factory reset. It makes sense to install BMM since it can take care of permissions.
