I just upgraded a new ATT S2. I would like to transfer all the settings (everything) from my existing Att s2 to the new phone. Is it possible?
I know I have to root the new phone first and install CVM kernel.
So I just copy the whole sd card folders and paste to the new phone. Then go to recovery mode and restore.
Anyone try it before?

+1 to this as well. I had to swap devices early on and this worked without issue.
Thanks. I'm using juice defender ultimate and set a lot of tweats in there. Not sure how they can apply to the new phone

If the two phones are the same model then all you need to do
is to copy the directories of the backups to same directories
on new phone. Just copy the /sdcard/clockworkmod folder to
your external sdcard or to your computer, then from external
sdcard to internel sdcard in the new phone.
Just be sure to copy the "clockworkmod" folder, don't open
the folder and start copying files or it will get mixed up.
If you copy clockworkmod folder to your computer,
simply copy it back to the NEW phone's SDCARD
(the entire clockcworkmod folder).
Don't copy one or more files at a time. Copy the entire folder.
Good Luck.
Thanks. Works Like a charm. I'll return the existing one and replace it with the iphone4s for my girlfriend

What I'd like to do is to pull off all the files (keeping the structures intact) and either create an image file (.bin/.img) or something along those lines.
I know of DDMS and Android Commander, but I don't think they have the full power to get everything and I also understand the phone has to be rooted (which is not a big deal). Has anyone had any luck/expertise in this area?
If I can get this to work it then it would help out with some of the research that I am doing since it'll be easier to mount the image file in linux and go from there.
Alternate idea, does anyone know if when making a backup of the rom with CWM or BM does it hold the same type of data? If so where is the boot.img located?
Thanks for the help in advance!
I think there're a couple of threads in the development section regarding the images dumped from this phone.

You can use an app called App2card at below for your need. It has the data tools for backing up any file/folder on any kind of storage (internal flash, fat32, ext2/3/4...) and ability to restore them in original structure as they were when backing up

Thanks, I tried that last night but the init.rc and other imortant files cannot be copied due to permissions access.
I eventually used CWM to make a backup of the phone and pulled the files that way. I just wonder if it has all the files on the phone (haven't had time to root through it yet)?

I think you can post your question in RomRacer's recovery thread; it's in dev section
so I have a question about managing backups from our bootstrap recovery. This might be a stupid question but I have a lot of backups from the recovery and I was wondering how you can delete/manage these backups; I want to free up some more space by deleting them. I am currently on dragonzkiller's CM7.

Just navigate to the folder that 03civicdx mentions with the file explorer app and delete the directory or directories in question that reside in the backups directory.
mmk i got it to work. Thanks guys!
I have a back up from every ROM for our phone so I know how you feel. It got really confusing which one was which! But they are on the external or internal SD card (depending on which you picked when you backed up) under a file called clockwork. To figure out which one is which, you can rename them. They will have numbers like this:
2011-12-13.07.17.47
DONT mess with the numbers otherwise you just lost the back up. So at the end of it, put a . and what ever you want to tell the difference from other back ups. So it'll look like this:
2011-12-13.07.17.47.Molten
You can type what ROM KR what theme or what ever you want, just make sure you put a period AFTER all the numbers. To delete them, just delete it through ES File Explorer or Root Explorer
Sent from my MB870 using XDA App
You may mess / the num. JUST DO NOT USE SPACES. Also add to yo cwm folder the empty FILE ".hidenandroidprogress" and cut 1/3 off BU times.
Whaaaat! Ru serious? That's a cool tip! I also agree, the file name changed to anything you want, just no spaces.
Sent from my MB870 using XDA App
Hah, sweet! I didn't know that, I was told the other way. Thanks for the correction, going to go in and change the names, and thanks for the tip in .hiddennandroidprogress file!

As most of you may know, the music download apps on the market mainly suck. Well about 5 months ago I found one called cloud mp3 down loader. Its the best one I've ever downloaded but its now not available on the markets. The link is there but the download is invalid. Is there anyway I can send it to my girlfriends non rooted note? I'm running the collectives cp1 and she can rarely find the songs she wants.

If you have it installed, it's already an apk, just go to /data/app find the apk of the app you're looking for, it will most likely have a name like com.(developer).(app name).apk
Just copy that into your sdcard, rename if you desire, upload that to some place (drop box works fantastically for this purpose) then just send her the link.
Super simple.
Two options I know:
1. AppSaver from the market will let you save your app into an .apk that you can send her. I usually do this with bluetooth.
2. ESfile Explorer lets you back up an app and share the backup. My partner does it this way.
Sometimes I have had success googling "download for blobbidydo.apk" and have found the app that way.
I hope this is what you needed.

+1 for dropbox. I use it all the time. You absolutely don't need to be rooted on the other end to do this. Just long press the app in file explorer and share it to your dropbox account.

He said he was running the Collectives Rom...therefore he would be rooted...allowing him access to the data/app folder. Deodex has nothing to do with this. Root is only needed on his end. She can then download and install without root...but before you can correct me...she would need "install from unknown sources" selected.

I know your pain. But I bought a 32gig card and spent an evening copying all the old 8 and 16 gig card to folders on my pc (using an adaptor card and not through the phones and tablets) then merged everything into one folder and put that on the 32. By your screen name I'm seeing you have at least three cards to comb through!
Don't empty the recycle bin on your pc for at least a week after.
Yesterday I put some roms on my sdcard of the phone. I then installed and aosp rom but the camera didn't work so I installed Trickdroid 5.4.0 instead. Today I just went to put a different rom on the sdcard and I noticed that some of my folders were missing that I added. There is a folder now called 0. That's it, just 0 and all my folders are inside that. There are also some of the same folders in that folder on my root storage with the same exact name but empty. Wtf? Anyone have any idea how that happened?

Same exact scenario with me I'm confused. TWRP recovery doesn't detect my old backups cause of the Damm 0. I'm still trying to sort this out. I don't want to deal with /sdcard0 then have all my new pictures or files being stored at a new location.

Gogogo copypasta:
0 is intentional. Android 4.2.2 added the ability for multi-user support, and it divides up the internal storage accordingly. "0" belongs to the first user, "1" belongs to the second... so on and so forth. Pull what files you want to keep out of the 0 folder and onto your computer then delete it. As long as you stay on pre-4.2.2 ROMs, it won't resurface. Even if it did, it's not that big of a deal since that's where we're heading anyway with Android development.
This might be a dumb question, but I am a noob and need someone to please help me out. I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone, so my question is if I perform a back up and then Flash a 4.2.2 rom in TWRP recovery can I restore back to the stock rooted 4.1.2? I searched on the forum to see if this question had been asked before, but I couldn't find anything. If someone could please answer my question asap I would greatly appreciate it.
Also if this question was posted in the wrong section feel free to move it or let me know any I will delete it and post it in the right place.
Thanks again

No. Going to 4.2.2 moves the sdcard contents to /data/media/0 (if I remember correctly). I've seen some recommend backing up your sdcard to your computer, formatting the sdcard on the device, then restoring the contents after you flash to 4.2.2.
At any rate, everything will still be there: just somewhere else.
Thanks for the reply Simba, do know how to back up your sdcard to your computer and then format the sdcard on the device

I'm going to get really basic, so don't be offended if it seems like I'm assuming you don't know how to do something. I always outline everything exactly for future people who find this thread. I've found countless old threads that have been a huge help because someone took the time to type everything out .
*Connect your device and access your sdcard files by opening My Computer - you should see your device*
Literally just copy all of the contents to your computer. Create a folder on your desktop (or wherever), select everything on your sdcard (ctrl + A), copy (ctrl + C), and paste it in the folder.
Then just delete everything on the sdcard after you've confirmed a successful copy. Same thing - ctrl + A, delete.
After you flash 4.2.2, connect the device again and copy/paste (or drag/drop) the contents of the folder (not the folder itself, but everything inside of it) you created to your device. You'll have all your files without dealing with them being in a different location.
There was some discussion of a way to execute a shell command that would fix the issue. I'm an experienced user; the contents of the sdcard ended up being wiped lol. Save yourself the headache.
By the way, I'm assuming you're on PC by giving those ctrl commands lol. If you're not (on Mac, I suppose), do whatever the equivalent is.
Not offended at all, I really appreciate you simpling it down for me. I have a few small quick questions for you, if I am using a Mac (I have both but Mac is my daily computer) do I just connect my phone and use something like Android file transfer or Htc sync manager to copy all the folders inside the sdcard to my computer? After flashing the 4.2.2 where on the phone do I copy the files I backed up on my computer on to? And if I erase everything off the SD card after copying it to the computer won't that effect the operating system? Especially if I chose to flash back to the 4.1.2 stock rom? Sorry to ask you so many questions but I am really new to this, and I appreciate all the help you can give me the last thing I want to do is brick my phone.

I'm sure that would work, though I have no experience with either. And typically, the directory you see on the computer is the default sdcard location. So there isn't a specific place you need to put it.
And it won't affect the operating system. At boot, Android automatically creates certain folders and files anyway. There are data files that apps use, but if they aren't there, they'll just recreate them. At the worst, a skin (or the like) won't be available if the file isn't on the sdcard. I've seen this with a calendar widget I use. Everything becomes fully functional once the files are back.
I don't really like using that verbiage - "functional," because it is perfectly safe to delete the sdcard's contents. Like I said, Android creates folders/files at boot, so they're not really necessary. Anything that affects the operating system is tucked away in a directory that requires root access :good:.
Big thanks for all the help Simba, you helped out a lot.

You wouldn't want to use HTC Sync as this only transfers files like music, pictures and such. You would actually want to open up your sdcard and copy all as was told. I use Linux now so I don't have to worry about Sync, but I personally think it is a useless piece of software. It is easier to just drag and click, and you don't need a program to do that.
Congrats on entering the world of rooting and customization BTW! :good: It's addictive, be warned! :cyclops:
Okay thanks for the reply, that's actually what it did (drag and dropped to my computer) :highfive:
