Heya
I've been searching around and havn't found any issues like this
But granted it's hard to describe and thus hard to search for
My Galaxy S2 is new (A few weeks) yet since new has had this issue. When powering the screen on (Lockscreen) the screen displays a white vertical line just left of the middle of the screen before powering on.
This line is NOT visible at all at any other time. Ran some screen tests without any evidence. Seems only to occur before unlocking
I have compared it side-by-side with my brothers Galaxy S2 so I know this isn't normal
Occasionally it will power-on normally but this is quite rare.
Had this issue from Stock, moved from rom to rom without change
Is this something to worry about? Could this be a sign of a failing screen, lose cable, crappy connection etc?
Is it worth sending it back under warranty?
The last thing I want it to do is to fail after the warranty expires
Cheers!

Sorry buddy, but It's really no prob.
It's an effect called CTR-animation (on or off)
This is an effect from an old TV turning on oder off.
So the display get crashed on a small line and goes off (CTR-off) or the display build up from white line (CTR-on)
If u using a Rom, just check ur apps for JKAY Deluxe... That's the app which manage such things.
There u can search for the two effects and turn on or off.
CHEERS ;-)

Heh thanks for your input
But it doesn't look anything like the CRT animations, nor is it pretty and well animated (And its a vertical, non-centred line. not a horizontal one
Also this was still present on the stock Samsung Rom

Oh... Then sorry buddy.
Hmm if also on stock u maybe should think about using ur guarantee (flashing on original back first, for sure).
That's really strange.

Ahhh well, was hoping I wasn't going to have to go down the warranty line
So, directly to samsung or through Mobiles.co.uk?
In the UK the seller is responsible for the warranty .
But you can go direct to Samsung .
Root or custom rom will void warranty restore to stock and reset custom rom counter .

Guess I'm going to be without a phone for a while
So I searched the forum for a bit and saw some people have similar issues but not the exact issue that I have. For some reason, my phone's power button only turns on the phone. After the phone is on, it doesn't work anymore. (i.e. will not put the phone into the lock state nor wake up the phone) The only way for me to wake up the phone is to plug it into the charger which will activate the lock screen.
Some additional information:
I am currently running Stock 4.0.3 ICS unrooted.
I have tried a factory reset on the phone.
I have also tried the *2767*3855# factory format code which is supposed to reinstall the phone firmware.
I was using the Go Launcher/Go Locker app as my default home screen and lock screen but this is still happening even after a factory reset back to TouchWiz.
This problem occurred after turning my phone back on this morning after it died due to running out of battery.
If anyone knows what I should do or can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.
Warranty replacement.

Boo, that sucks. Do you think going through AT&T or Samsung would be better? I guess its between a refurbished phone vs not having one for 2 or so weeks.

Is there any sign of life in the screen when you reboot the phone?
Do you see the Samsung logo when your phone is starting up?

Any chance you installed Chainfire3D or any other third party GUI/GPU apps??
I've had this problem when using CF3D and just reflashed ROM...
Could try fix permissions in recovery?

I think it's hardware issue. Send it to repair center if you still have a valid warranty

I've got the same problem too. I managed to get the phone into download mode (the screen didn't show a thing, but Odin recognized it as "ADDED"). Flahsed an official ICS ROM, but the screen keeps black, but the initialization sound can be heard, and the phone still rings when receiving a call!
Dead hardware...I supose...

I have the same problem as you, but this is something I found out yesterday:
If you go to a dark room, and you turn on your S2, you can see some sort of.. light black/grayish pixel spots over your screen. It is pretty hard to see, that's why you need to be in a dark room.
Did anyone else notice this, or am I the only one?

Hi I noticed it too, what I also noticed is that sometimes when using the face unlock on "waking" the phone up with the power key worked, I'm hoping it is not a hardware issue because it's intermittent.
Hi all.
I have this same problem with my screen on sgs2 . Also can see screen in darkness. Sound and phone works fine.
After opening up, came up with this problem
I opened up the back of the phone, to clean off some lint between the camera lens, and the glass on the outside, after closing it, This problem occurred.
The thing is, the touch screen works fine. I can navigate through the phone (using another Galaxy S2 to guide me of course), and everything. I can turn it off and on, etc.
So, this may be a hardware issue, but can someone chime in and let us know the specific hardware issue that may be in play here?
I'm having the same problem. I'm repairing a water damaged phone, and after the cleaning, it would hang on the galaxy S2 logo. I got it into download mode, and left it that way while I was Dling the proper Odin files, but when I came back 15 minutes later, it was a black screen. I finally realized it was still working, and navigated into download mode by memory, and successfully flashed the firmware. But now the screen that was working, refuses to turn on, although the capacitive lights do, and the phone is seemingly working normally.
It seems like it has to be something simple, the LCD shouldn't just die altogether for no reason. I'll keep messing around, and if I figure anything out, I'll report back. Or maybe someone else figures it out, and I can benefit!
As an update, I plugged the non working screen into a working S2, and it showed the Samsung logo on boot up. Then it went black again, but it can still show images, and did it multiple times. So the LCD works, but something is messing it up.

Hey guys!
I have the same problem... does anybody have an idea what's happening to our phones?
Not to beat a dead horse but I am trying to recover pictures from my sisters phone. I plugged in a working screen, get the Samsung logo on boot then a low lit black screen however the boot sound still plays, all buttons on the bottom light up and give heptic feedback and so on. I don't have any lcd lights though... Lastly when I have the phone off and plug into the wall I do get the battery charge symbol flash on the screen but then goes back to a black screen and the battery still charges. I plug the phone into a computer and can see it connected although cant get kies to work with it... Any updates from anyone else or ideas? This phone has pictures of her daughter that passed away and are irreplaceable. I am willing to try anything so she can hold onto those memories

Sorry but I didnt know where else to ask this. Theres not a forum for the sprint version of the galaxy s2 which is what i have. Anyway onto the problem. So for the past 2 weeks the phone has been restarting itself on occasion and sometimes its really bad but lately it's gotten really really bad. The screen now just randomly turns on by itself and the power options window also randomly pops up by itself. (the window that says shut off/restart/other things like that) At first i thought it was the power button so i fiddled with it a bit but it hasnt changed. even if i'm holding the phone and my fingers and hand is nowhere near the power button the phone still does it. It can be laying on the table, and the screen will still turn on with the power options. Now, I'm under warranty so I might just bring my phone to sprint but the problem with that is im rooted and have a custom kernel installed. And I'd unroot and flash the stock gb27 kernel but i'm worried that during that process the phone will restart itself and i'll have a bricked phone or a phone stuck in a bootloop or god knows what else. Any suggestions? I've ran out of possible ideas that it could be. My batterys fine, the power button seems to be fine. So I have no idea at the moment
The XDA forum for the Sprint Galaxy SII, also referred to as the Epic Touch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/epic-4g-touch
The Samsung Epic 4G Touch is the successor to the Samsung Epic 4G. Both phones are available as a part of the Sprint network. The Epic 4G Touch is Sprint's version of Samsung's Galaxy S II smartphone. Unlike the Epic 4G, the Epic 4G Touch does not include a physical keyboard. This version of the Galaxy S II has a 4.5" display, as well as all four touch-capacitive buttons along the bottom of the phone instead of the three found on the international version. The Samsung Epic 4G does not have the NFC capabilities found in other versions of the Galaxy S II.
