After updating to JI6, I'm unable to download and install, sometimes even to find on the market, the Nytimes app.
Perhaps it's connected to my flashing the upgrade via Odin after my OTA attempt failed and I lost all my prior apps and data.
In all events, is there anything I can do to get it back?
Since I rooted my Droid Eris and installed a Froyo rom, I have been unable to find it on the market as well.
I found an older version of it and installed it, but it crashes every time I open it.
I wonder if the app doesn't work on froyo and that's why it's not on the market.
It was on the market as of last week, before I rooted the app and installed Froyo.
I hope someone else can find more information about this.

I have it on my phone running 2.2 - version 1.6.8
I have it too
On froyo 2.2
I've checked the market again (searching for nytimes) and it did not appear. I've installed a few other apps from the market with no problems.
I read that at least one other person was having problems searching for specific apps (although not the nytimes) in the market using the same rom that I'm using, Tazzfroyo I'm guessing that might be the problem for myself, and the same type of problem could be it for the OP as well.
I'll keep you updated.

a ROM does not effect how the market behaves. Google does.
You might be living in another place where the NYTimes app is not being released, for country reasons.
There are apps that others cant see but you can.
There's a app that lets you see all forgot name though

Try this as well as dl appbrain. Some rare occasions I cannot find an app so I browse though appbrain and it links me to the market download. I actually had to dl it with the xda tapatalk app and the sirius app.
Sent from my Axura injected voodoo possessed Vibrant.
Thank you for your suggestions and help.
After clearing the market cache and rebooting; and then installing appbrain [although it did appear in appbrain], The NYTIMES still did not appear in the market.
I then ran the Eris Market Fix (the newest version, v1.7) rebooted - which fixed my problem ! nytimes app finally appeared in the market. =)
I'm in the US so I don't know why the app wouldn't appear in my market before running the market fix...

Market stopped working - force closing.
Have tried repartition fix for force closes.
Have tried market fix multiple times.
Still, if I uninstall the market updates, it will work after opening the app the second time. After a while ( closing the application and reopening), market updates to the new market by itself and same issue - force closes.
I tried uninstalling market updater - no option to do this. Force closing this app does not help either.
So, it appears the old market works, but the new does not; and I am unable to keep the market app from updating automatically.
Any takers on this one??

I can tell you that there are serveral posts around various gTab forums dealing with the issue. Most of the users that have reported the problem are Vegan GE users. Haven't seen a solution but one user was uninstalling the update & using the app until it gets updated again & then unistalling updates, etc. Go to Settings, Applications, Downloaded applications, Market & select Uninstall updates. That should return you to the previous version (acccording to the poster). May atleast buy you some time until soometime finds a permanent solution of a new version that works for you is pushed.

I've tried this and it has worked for me so far. If you have Titanium backup you can go to the backup/restore section. Scroll down until you find Market Updater 1.0, then select it, then uninstall it. I hope this helps
Settings->Language & Keyboard>Select language->English (United States)
Worked for me, having the exact same problem you described. Thanks to MastricX.

Wow, that is really all it takes? Changing the language just fixed the FC issue with Cyanogenmod 7.0.3.
Brilliant!
Err... it lets me see the apps, but none of them have a download button.
GRRR!!!
I have been having a problem with the google market on my phone which is a samsung admire. It is rooted. Anyhow for the past few days I have not been able to turn off the market after using it to look for an app I go to my task manager and close it but it will not close only thing i can do is force close it then after few minutes it opens again. I am new to android so any help you can offer would be great.
Try setting the language to English (United States) in your settings. Works for Market FC issue on Inc S with CM7.
Moved to proper section
Thanks that worked. Yup i click the thanks button...
Mods can close thread
Today I discovered how to bypass this. I guess its a glitch or whatever... just clear defaults for market. Look for the app on Google for the market link. Follow it using market to make sure its the one. Go back to Google. This time follow it using browser.(before this make sure your not signed in on market.android.com) and click install. It will pop up asking you to sign in. Click sign in. Then it will ask again to use browser or market. This time hit market and it will be at accept & download... just tap that and it will start downloading...
I am running kushdecks ics. Not sure if it has anything to do...
Also don't try on non free apps.
Just found it curious I guess.

what are you talking about? installing apks away from the market from your sd card?
no. you know how sometimes you get links to the market and when you go to the market on the phone it says that your device isn't compatible? well that.
just open the link using your browser on the phone. then hit install it'll ask to sign in. when you press the sign in button. it asks you to either use the browser or the market app. hit market and just download...
Blah, they must have fixed it. Grrrrrrrr.....I want two games from there sale! >_<
Its only for free apps or games... if it has a price it gives an error

Know of any good apks to try this with?
Sent from my PG8610000 using xda premium
Try this: (note: only works on rooted phones)
Download this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.wemobs.android.lcdresolution (free from the market) & reset your screen resolution back to stock.
Next, Force Stop Market & then Clear Data in Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications.
Reopen Market, accept the TOS, & try to get your app!
I had this same problem & this fixed it for me. Seems the market checks your device's screen resolution to see if the app is compatible @ that resolution or not & if it's not supported by the app, you get the "Your device is not compatible" message.
Hope this helps.

That method didn't work. :'(
I'm trying to download and install a couple of 3D apps from Market and I get this stupid message..
The apps are definitely compatible and are listed in the EVO 3D apps thread....
Isn't it possible to change the device info in the system ini to stop this problem...?

thanks, Im a bit of a noobie
where is the build.prop and what exactly should I change it to? I want to install 3D apps so I should change to xxx3D?
I just noticed I cant even install a plain notepad app from MArket "Your device isnt..." Is that because of the QHD resolution..? Also screenshot app got "Your device isnt..."
This android market is a pain in the but...almost as restrictive as iphone market place...
EDIT: I found build.prop and changed ro.product.model=LG P920 Optimus 3D but still ""Your device isnt..." message.
What else should I change...?
It worked for me
Thank you
I've gone back to stocj rooted rom and everythings dandy....no more issues...
Hi all, just a quick report on this issue- using CM7 copes, android 2.3.2 booted from SD card on hd2 dual boot with WP7 in nand.
I was having the incompatible issue fairly often, so I installed "LCD Resolution (Root)" free download from the Market (it allowed me to install that one) but I think you have to donate $.99 for it to work. Then, in this order, force close Market (if running), delete the data, then launched LCD Resolution and reset my resolution from 180 default to 160, hit apply but did not check always boot into this (an option), then the app rebooted the phone. After the reboot I checked the resolution- it was at 160- opened Market, accepted terms, searched for the app I wanted and was able to install it without a problem.

I just read a review of the LCD Resolution app and the reviewer said the app was saying all market apps were incompatible until he reverted to the default settings for the display
same problem on lizi y4 (gooapple v5)
I also have so many problems with "device isn't compatible with this version" in google play. I have a Lizi Y4, which is same model as Gooapple V5.
I tried installing lcdresolution, but cannot, as device isn't compatible .
What are the checks that google play makes? Is it indeed giving me this message due to density, or does it do other checks too?
Regards, JK.
Has anyone been able to update to google play? I keep getting error 101 and 491.
Mine just did it by itself last night i have tnt. My friend had the same issue what he did was go to applications and he cleared all the market data and restarted it then simply updated by itself

Have you tried applications management, force stop market, clear data, do same with Google framework. Reboot, run market. If not search for Google Play. Apk. Download, intall and repeat above

DAE have most apps report they are incompatible with their gtab? Its liike the ics beta doesn't have the so called market fix?!?!
No problems here. Google Play updated just fine, and most apps I am looking for show up with the default settings.
With the ICS Beta 1.0, you can go into ROM Control and change the footprint to be seen as different tablets, such as the Xoom and Transformer.
Make sure to Force Stop the Market (Play Store) app and clear data (also check to see if Market Updater needs to be force closed). You may also have to force stop Google Framework and clear its data as well.
If you change footprints, you have to clear market data so it will load the new footprint.
Try upgrading to the latest gapps package TeamDRH released. It has google play built in.
This worked thanks!

Select the widgets tab from your app drawer then drag and drop.
Loving this ROM, it installed with no issues. Multitouch gestures are not working at all for me (which would be fine if I didn't have apps that seem to require it).
Has anyone found a successful way to get rid of the status bar at the bottom?
I have looked at other threads, it seems some ROMs have this built in. The auto-hide option in settings didn't work, and I tried the Gesture Control app with no luck either (maybe because multitouch isn't working for me).
