Having problems right after root. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

When ever my phone's screen is off, aka when I'm sleeping, it will automatically go back to the original Samsung launcher, instead of Go Launcher, which is what I have installed and defaulted. Sometimes it goes back to stock launcher when my phone is sitting around for a few minutes, doesnt have to be overnight. When I make the transition from stock launcher to Go Launcher, I get "Problem loading widgets" Pretty annoying.
Second, some apps stop working and disappear (from the notification bar). Specifically Lookout Security, Juice Defender, WidgetLocker (goes back to stock locker) and BatteryBar notification battery icon. I'm not sure whats going on, I have no ROM flashed, the only thing I have added since my root have been: AdFree, SuperUser, Titanium Backup, and Screenshot it. I have no idea what do do now, thanks.

Not sure what its happening, but one thing you can try is freezing all the launchers you are not using titanium backup and leaving only one that you want to use. That will keep the launcher from changing when you don't want.
But take caution, don't freeze all the launchers - make sure one is still available, or you will get a soft brick that you will have to either re flash or restore a nandroid backup.

#1: When the phone gives you the option to choose a launcher
as default there is a little checkbox on the bottom which you can
checkmark before selecting your preferred default launcher so it will
not ask you everytime you go to the home screen or restart the phone.
#2: In order to SAVE any settings you make while using Go Launcher
you need to open the settings for Go Launcher and scroll down until
you see "save" and "restore".
After making any changes to anything in Go Launcher use the save
settings in go launcher.
#3: Problem loading widgets after reboot is a commonly known issue
in many launchers. The stock Touchwiz 4 launcher does not have this problem.
The only time you will see this problem is when you reboot the phone
or if you power off the phone and restart it.
If you do not select and save as default the launcher of your choice
it may not startup with whatever customizations and additions you
have made to it.
P.S. these problems you are experiencing have nothing to do with rooting the phone.
Good Luck!

Can you tell me what the name of the stock Samsung launcher is in Titanium?
Go Launcher is my default, its always been this way too. By the way, I just plugged my phone in to drag and drop a file and after I disconnected the USB via the notification bar option, the phone restarted on its own and went to the stock Samsung launcher, giving me the widget problem again. I pressed the home button and it gives me the option to choose my default launcher, which is Go Launcher, which I've selected 20 times already. This happened after I rooted so I assumed that was the problem.
Thanks alot though guys.
Quick edit: This whole default home screen problem happens when I reboot my phone, I just tried it a few times and that seems to be it

What rom are you using? If it's the stock or stock rooted 2.3.4 i777 SGS2
rom then your default launcher which came with the rom is Touchwiz 4.
If you installed/flashed some custom rom then your launcher is possibly something
other than Touchwiz 4 but either way the STOCK launcher for i777 is Touchwiz 4.
Either way your best bet would be to flash the "UnNamed 1.0.4" custom rom.
It has the stock Touchwiz 4 launcher. If you like Go Launcher better
you can download and install from the market. It's a free app.
After you do this, just re-read my previous reply if you still have
any problems. (which I doubt).
The UnNamed rom is currently the best custom rom available for our
phones. It can be downloaded here: update-unnamed-v1.0.4-full.zip
After you flash this rom I bet your problems will magically disappear.

I have no ROM flashed currently, just rooted applications.
Very tempting, however I'm new to this whole rooting and flashing process, I definitely don't want to brick my phone. So, do I flash this ROM via Rom Manager? Where do I put this UnNamed file?

If your phone is properly rooted, flash the UnNamed rom using
CWM Recovery.
The easiest way to get to CWM Recovery is to go to the market
and download a free app called "reboot recovery".
After it's installed, you will be able to go to CWM Recovery
with one click.
You can find this "Reboot Recovery" app here: http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/reboot-recovery_vusz.html
First download the UnNamed rom and copy it to your sdcard
(don't put it into any folder)
Then when you are in CWM Recovery select "install zip from sdcard".
Then select the UnNamed rom file you copied to your sdcard.
Once it's selected (highlighted) press the HOME key in cwm recovery.
After it's done flashing select "Reboot system" in CWM Recovery.
That's all there is to it.. The whole process after downloading
the new custom rom is less than 5 minutes.
Good luck!

You guys are extremely helpful, I gave a thanks to every post in here. So before I flash this ROM, do I need to backup what I currently have? I typically back up with Titanium.
Im currently downloading the ROM.

Yes, it's a good idea to backup the existing rom.
Sorry I forgot to mention it.
You cannot backup a rom with titanium.
Use CWM Recovery to backup the rom.
It's just as easy to backup or restore a rom in
CWM Recovery than it is to flash a new custom rom.
CWM has a option in the menu which says:
"Backup/Restore".
Titanium backup only backs up APPS and
the cooresponding data and system files.
(not roms).
Good Luck!

Sounds good, I just backed up via CWM and I'm still waiting for the ROM to download. Thanks for taking me through this whole process by the way

Meanwhile, where can I view what this UnNamed ROM features?

Another thing I forgot to mention is that after you have flashed the UnNamed
rom if you want to use the Titanium Backup to restore your apps, never
select "Restore All Apps and System Data".
If you do it will cause a lot of problems and force closes (fc's).
The way to restore apps with Titanium Backup when using custom
roms is to select "restore missing apps with data" only.

Okay, I just flashed the ROM and all of my apps are still there, are you saying that when I flash a new ROM my apps should not be there, and that I have to restore them via Titanium Backup?

Well, I did another reboot and Im having the same problems as before.

Also, everytime I disconnect USB mass storage my phone automatically re-boots. Only after a root did this happen...

Go back into cwm recovery and do a fresh/clean flash of the UnNamed
rom by selecting "wipe data/factory reset" in cwm recovery then go
ahead and select "install zip from sdcard" like you already have.
Then before you either restore apps or install apps check out the rom.
It will not have any problem at all and it will only have the
Touchwiz 4 launcher which it comes with.
After that if by restoring or installing go launcher you start having
problems, either stick with Touchwiz 4 launcher or choose a different
launcher (not go launcher) there are dozens of launchers in the
android market to choose from and 99% of em are free.
Best bet though... stick with Touchwiz 4. (my opinion only).
You might want to either install or restore one app at a time
and see which one is perhaps causing your problem too.
Some apps are just not 100% compatible with either the
phone itself, or with certain launchers.

It makes no difference how you rooted the phone
because all these new custom roms are pre-rooted.
So whatever you did to root the phone does not matter.
These custom roms over-write any existing rooting.
Be sure that when you are not using usb storage
that you go into settings and enable "USB debugging".

Still having these problems, I went ahead and Unrooted my phone. Ill try this whole process at another time. Bookmarking this thread and thanked you again.

Need step-by-step help flasing Axura 2.2.5.7 Rom

Im on my way to flash Axura 2.2.5.7 on my rooted vibrant . I titanium backed up all my system data and all apps using ‘back up all apps + system data’ feature of titanium. I, then, downloaded Rom Manager *free version… and flashed clockworkmod recovery…then rebooted into recovery and made a nandroid back.
I have now downloaded ODIN 3 v 1.70 on my computer.
I have been reading various guides (including vibrant wiki and bible) on how to root and flash roms.
Since I did ‘flash clockworkmod recovery’ yesterday..do I need to do it again?
Can any one direct me to a step by step process on flashing the Axura Rom.
I guess it’s the fear of the unknown while flashing for the very first time.
Thanks
EDIT: I have copied the titanium folder from internal memory to my pc just in case. I also would like to make a back up of rom manager (nandroid backup or whatever it is caleld) onto my computer... How do I do that? I wasn't ablt to locate the folder.

The only other thing you need to do, is put the Axura2257.zip (Or whatever it's name is) on the INTERNAL memory card & flash via clockwork Mod or Rom Manager
sorry..a noob here and it might be a stupid question: Can I also use ODIN to flash the rom? I feel I would be more comfortable working through ODIN.

Just make sure you have two files on your 16g internal memory - Update.zip and the Axura.zip(can be named anything other than Update.zip for obvious reasons) file.
Reboot the phone into recovery. If it's blue then hit reinstall packages until it turns green with more options. This may take two times so don't freak if it's still blue after the first, just do it again.
Once in the green recovery go to install file from SD and select the Axura.zip file. Agree to everything and let it run it's course. Once done hit reboot now and enjoy.
thanks guys. just flashed Axura 2.2.5.7 ROM without any hiccups for the first time

Now one more question: What is voodoo and what is the benefit of enabling it on Axura 2.2.5.7?

Woah.. Were you on Android 2.1? Don't restore settings if you were.
Voodoo just converts to EXT4 (Which is faster)

You can't to my knowlege... 2.1 & 2.2 are very different, and if you restore the settings & apps then there are going to be allot of problems.. I would just reflash it and manually setup the settings this time, and then backup everything up for the next ROM you choose..
that sucks. I have alot of apps (around 70/80). I had customized settings on them. Its sad not being able to restore those apps and their settings. I can do with system settings.
But overall thanks alot for a great phone experiences. its extremely snappy now and im loving my phone again hehe...
Two things from my experience.
1. You should be able to restore all your apps you backed up in Titanium Backup as it seems to be able to tell what apps won't work with Froyo. You'll see them with a line through them in Titanium. Just restore missing apps with data using the batch feature. Do not restore the one with + all system data.
Then go to Backup/Restore at the top and scroll down to green [SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage and click that and restore it too (this is your text messages). You must restart your phone now for it all to take effect.
2. After you complete #1 - Hit up the market for Voodoo Toggle Reboot app (free). Once it's open you can Enable/Disable Voodoo with it. Click it if it's not green and then hit Reboot Now to activate it. You'll hear Linda talking to you while voodoo installs which may take a bit so don't worry.
Voodoo changes the file system to ext4 which is way faster and very stable. Your phone will fly with it.
You will have to setup new settings for everything else this time, but if you use Launcher Pro you'll be able to backup your desktop settings for next time. Once you get everything the way you like it, backup with Launcher Pro and then with Titanium Backup for next time.
Make sure you don't flash anything else through clockwork with voodoo active unless the Dev says it's ok to do so. An example would be when Axura 2.2.5.8 comes out it'll probably be ok to flash without messing with voodoo (crosses fingers).

Phone has got very slow.....

Hello.
When I got my new vibrant a few weeks ago, I put on nero 3 and it was blazing fast. Then I put on Nero 4 and it looked like it slowed down for some reason, then I put on another rom and it seems even slower
I just kept reflashing via clockwork recovery, without deleting the previous roms first, I just overwrited....
Someone told me to do ODIN to stock before putting another rom on your phone....well I dont know how to do ODIN to go back to 2.1.....and also if I do ODIN then I will lose unlock right?
Any help?
Ok,first backup all your contacts n payer appear if you have any, then reboot ur phone into recovery.
Use the volume rocker to scroll up n down and if you are in the red menu select voodoo lagfix with the power button then follow the menu to disable it then select go back, then install zip from sd card then scroll down and check on downloads, if you downloaded your toms to the sd the zip file. Should. Be there.
B4 reinstall delete all data and cache select go back to do this then select install zip from sd to go back n scroll down to downloads n select your rom zip then select yes n you should be done.
Now be patient let it boot n give it like15 minutes. Then reboot again to fix bugs then wait again b4 you use it otherwise it will be buggy again

Have you checked to make sure that Voodoo was enabled? I believe there's an app in the Market called Voodoo Toggle that can help.
Also, if your phone is running slowly, there are a couple things you can try before flashing a whole new ROM. Check to see if there are any frozen services slowing up your phone. Go into Settings > Applications > Running Services and see if anything is stuck on "Restarting..." If it is, tap to stop the process and you may even want to consider freezing the service in Titanium Backup if this happens often. Another thing to do is fix permissions in ROM Manager. You will need to do one of the fixes in this thread before you run Fix Permissions. I recommend the one in post 3 because it's easiest. I do both these things when my phone slows up drastically, and it's worked every time.
You may also wish to trying clearing cache and dalvik-cache from the Recovery menu.
I have a Mac and have never been able to ODIN back to stock between flashes. My phone is still very snappy and doesn't really give me any problems.

[Q] Vegan Tab ROM Manager Messup?

I Installed VEGAN-Tab 7.0 rc-1 harmony and am up and running fine. i alsoinstalled ROM Manager (and yes I also have clockwork MOD)
I go into Rom manager, hit "Flash Clockworkmod recovery" select gtab,
Then "Back Up Current Rom"
I have tried leaving default file name, and typing in my own. It reboots... but no backup. Right back in to regular startup.
When I hold down volume + it goes into recovery, appears to be doing backup, but after it reboots, the backup is nowhere to be found.
Am I missing something?

The problem I had with only using clockwork mod for backups is that a lot of settings somehow changed during restoration.
Aside from ROM Manager, are there any other good backup programs for use on a gtab?
clockwork bekit 0.8 works great just dont use Rom Manager
Thanks. I appreciate it.
I'm running CM7 & even Rom Manager doesn't fully function with that rom. About the only thing I use it for is for the permissions fix, but that's about it.
I tried Using ROM manager to install CM7 and it wouldn't work. I'm going to wait for someone to more fully develop a gingerbread edition with hardware acceration, and then I'll try a different ROM. I just kind of wanted to back up the one I had.
Example of problem with clockwordkmod: I wipes, and did a system restore, and suddenly the gtab didn't register when i rotated the tablet. Also, whereas before I could hit the launch icon and it would show me all 5 of my home screen... nothing happened. I could flick through them, but after combing through the settings, I couldn't get it back the way it was. I ended up starting over from scratch.

upgrading to latest build

Pretty simple question, i want to upgrade to the latest build by mik. Will this basically wipe everything that isnt on my SD card ? i.e. everything on my desktop, all my settings, all my apps etc.
thanks.
Yes, you will have to wipe everything...
If you want, you can backup your data with apps like "Titanium Backup" or something like those...
U will lost all ur settings,sms,contacts,apps..nd u will lost ur data in sd bcoz u hv to do partition for aps2sd..Its recommrnded to do backup of all ur apps, contacts, sms, nandroid before flashing
oh ok. so ill install apps2sd, move all my apps across, backup contacts and what i can with titanium , flash.
what is this google sync business with contacts ??
so i just flashed to the latest, and its booted back in, and everything is still on my desktop ? like nothing got erased.
i did a full batch titanium backup. did it automatically restore everthing ? even my desktop settings ?? im lost

Haha so luckily you got me and my patience on your thread lol and you questions are simple yeah but not short to answer!
For your question, yes! flashing any rom will exactly wipe EVERYTHING on your phone.
BUT IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM OLDER VERSIONS OF MIK'S 2.3 ROM, it will NOT wipe anything except your google/facebook accounts information.
By the way, for the manual action of "wiping", it depends what android version you are at.
If you are using Froyo 2.2 NOW, yes wipe everything on the list of your custom recovery.
If you are using Gingerbread 2.3 NOW, then you dont have to wipe anything except [cache] and [dalvik cache]. <- You must wipe these two!

I dont get what you mean by "install apps2sd". But whatever you shouldn't do that before flashing a rom. If you mean the Non-froyo App2SD+ (What the hell is non-froyo a2sd?), you should flash it AFTER you have flashed the rom in order to let it activate in the new rom.
Yes. backup all the things with titanium is necessary.
For the google contacts syncing. It is a service provided by Google and it is for you to sync the contacts between your Gmail and your phone. So you can view all your contacts anywhere. You can sync your contacts to gmail and then after rom flashing, the contacts are gone. Simply login back to gmail with the newly flashed rom and then click auto-sync. All of your contacts will be back after a couple of minutes.
But remember one extra point, its sort of a new feature in gingerbread but BE SURE TO UNTICK THE OPTION OF "BACKUP MY DATA ETC TO MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT" after you login your gmail with android 2.3. Why? It actually doesn't backup your data (well for me, i couldnt see it anywhere) but DUPLICATES YOUR MESSAGES WITH NO REASON!

IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.2 FROYO
NO. After you flash, every single thing will be GONE COMPLETELY. You will have to perform a titanium batch restore to get everything back in order.
IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.3 GINGERBREAD (older versions of mik's rom)
Then Yes everything is still on your "desktop" (I think you meant launcher) and ALL SETTINGS WILL REMAIN. However in some cases, home screen widgets will have problems and you will have to place them again. Information in widgets (such as your city for weather widgets, your to-do-list widgets) are NOT BE ABLE TO BACK UP USING TITANIUM OR ANY OTHER METHODS. So make sure you have written down what you have wrote in your widgets!
And finally if you have missed or made mistakes in any step, dont panic! You can always restore your phone back with KDZ UPDATER (Picture guide in this link)!
And when you are using mik's rom, and you would like to have a try on franco.Kernel which provides excellent performance, dont forget to discuss them in the thread The fantastic combination of mik_os' CM7 and franco.Kernel!!
Hope I was clear enough and if any parts of my post have helped you, dont forget to hit the thanks button at the bottom of my post

erm for the launcher its totally simple - ur phone can have multiple launchers, but you usually only use one. and they gives you the app drawer and some screens for you to place your shortcuts and widgets. how are they? what are their performances? differ on different launchers. they all can simple be found on the market, and after installation you will be able to choose the one you want to use, by clicking the home button.
ADW launcher and Launcher Pro being the most famous ones and you may try GO Launcher as some people are using and appreciating it too.

Sometimes over efficiency kills you instantly and this is what happened to me. I moved to "apex launcher" and disabled touchwiz to get more free space in ram. Today, I wanted to update apex and it failed. I then thought to remove the previous version so I can install new one separately. I went into apps and removed apex. Bang, I was standing no where, i had noting to launch. I restarted phone but it stuck on boot logo. I went to recovery and reflashed the rom (wanamlite) without wipe. Phone rebotted, app upgrading appears, but it stuck at starting app.
Now how can I restore my phone without wipping. I don't have any nandroid backup.. Thanks for help.

Or just push a launcher apk in system/app from computer.. A cwm with file manager was on front page of xda some week ago.. Would be perfect for you
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Thanks. I am in office right now and I have limited options. I can't connect my phone to PC. If i can find a flashable launcher, I can download that from another phone and use it through external sd card.
found it myself. Thanks for help
