RSD light cant see the SBF file to unbrick my photoc. - Motorola Photon 4G

I downloaded the latest RSD and the sbf I found for the photon, When clicking on the "..." it wont find the damn file anywhere. My phone wont even turn on it says restart 2 failed and all that... it seems like the sbf file is a .gz file(?)

Did you extract the sbf file from the zip. Do you have winrar to extract it.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

I just opened the zip and dropped it onto the desktop, its not showing that its zipped once i do that.

If you have winrar you need to extract it to desktop. Then to get phone into rsd mode it must be powered off. Hold vol up and power till you see rsd protocol on the phone.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

if i push vol up and power it says "failed to boot 2, starting fastboot protocol support" and If I just press power it says "failed to boot starting rsd mode" and neither go anywhere, the second quote is the only one recognized by RSDlite and even then it fails when I start it. Otherwise i found the sbf.

so i hooked my phone up and had to run i let it do its thing, made sure it started creating an image before I left and I got back and my phone was off and the RSD said process failed and executed 100% The battery is dead.... I put it on my charger and it doesnt go to the charge screen it goes to the red "M" and it says "failed to boot 2, starting fastboot protocol support, and battery too low to load" WTF do I do now...

Take apart an old usb cable put the red wire to positive and black to negative on the battery(out of the phone), plug the usb into the factory charger and let it charge for at least 30mins no more than an hour. Pop it in and flash away. Btw any usb will work

Nah I dont trust doing that. I have two options. I can leave it plugged in my wall and the screen will automatically come on and say what I mentioned above. Or I have it plugged into my usb drive on my computer, the screen does not come on but a green LED comes on.

7zip for windows can also extract the contents of the rar file.

Like I said, I already got all that part figured out. Now I'm trying to do it with a dead phone that wont seem to charge.

so which way should I charge it?

Unfortunately your only other choice to manually charging the battery is to buy a wall charger that charges the battery only(online only). I've been there and that's how I came up with manual battery charging.

i tried it.. hacked up a good usb cable, and they don't stay put... It WILL not charge this way.. I need to do it one of those two ways.. plugging it in to the computer it turns green notification on and then when the comp sleeps it turns on the red M circle and the same words pop up. So I set it so my computer doesn't sleep and tried again, the green LED came on for 10 minutes then went out. Pushed the power button on the phone and the LED came back on, but still the phone wont do anything else.. It wont charge enough to load the RSD.

Use tape

You realize this is ridiculous... I cant put exposed wires onto a battery and then use tape... especially not knowing whats going to happen or if its even working.

Come on guys nobody knows what to do?

After running RSD and hitting start (Step 11) it said it failed on RSD.
Phone went blank and now will not turn on.
I press power button/hold etc and cant get any response
Am I completely screwed or is there something I can do to jump start thing thing now?

Yea, it sounds like your charge may have been low. Just a note to everyone, make sure you have a full charge before flashing (anything really). It's a good rule of thumb, even if you are using USB to flash. USB typically doesn't supply enough juice for our devices especially when flashing.
My charge was pretty much full when I started, and the process only lasted about 5 minutes before I went out.
I have it plugged into AC charger now but still no response.
I did notice that when I turn it on while battery is not in it I get the green LED light in top right corner of phone.
When I hit the power button the light goes out. If I have battery in and plug in I get no green light. Just seems to be when without battery and prior to hitting any buttons.

Hmm, I can't get any response at all.. Are you meaning power on with volume button held as well?
No that does not work either if thats what you mean.
I really can't seem to get any response at all.
The only thing I seem to be able to figure out how to make it do is turn on a green LED in top right of phone when I plug it into a usb charger without the batter in. AC charger does not turn on light. Once power button is touched green light goes away.
HOpefully this means there is something I can do.. The light at the end of the tunnel lol

Have you tried just letting it sit for a while with the green light flashing? Some reason I think that mine did that (a long time ago) when I soft bricked pre-pudding. So, if that doesn't work, you may be pooched. I assume the computer doesn't recognize it either?

I believe it was just the unlocker (zomgunlock-lite.sbf)
And no the computer does not recognize it... I will try letting it set for awhile with the green light and see what it does. I have to have the battery out to get this green light, would the phone theoretically start without a battery in it but plugged into usb port?

removed the battery when screen said RSD lite.

I installed a script onto the atrix rom that I was running and apparently the 2 did not play well together. After I installed the script with script manager and rebooted the phone would not get past the motorola boot screen. I proceeded to download the GB SBF and try to sbf back to original. during the course of this the sbf failed and i had to download a different copy. the phone was still in RSD Lite mode and I didnt know how to get out of it so I figured i'd just remove the battery. I know, not the best thing to do, but I did it.
now the phone will not even turn on when the power button is pushed. I have it plugged to a wall charger right now to see if the battery is dead. but it just sits at the motorola screen so I have to wait to see if the battery will charge and let me get back to rsd lite.
Any Idea what pulling the battery when the screen said RSD Lite caused to go wrong?
My phone did that when the battery completely died. Let it sit for a bit then pull the battery. Plug it into the wall without the battery and see what happens. Hopefully you boot into recovery.

it also says that the battery is low, so that may be my whole problem.

I had a similar issue and the battery will not charge when in that state. I took a $30 hit and bought a battery at VZW store... Went home, put in new battery, SBF'ed and was good to go.... If my dog hadnt chewed up the box while I wasnt looking, I would have taken the battery back.... But at least now I have a spare battery and anytime I am going to flash or try anything a little squirrelly I just charge one battery all the way, take it out and make sure I have atleast 50% on the one in the phone.... It gives me a kinda warm, fuzzy, sense of security....

[Q] Help Please. Droid Razr stuck in boot loop!!

I have a droid razr that I rooted back in october when I first came out. It has worked perfectly fine up until last night when out of no where is just powered down and restarted. Once it restarted I realized it wasn't making it past the splash screen(if that's what it is called) and then reboots. It does this over and over. I downloaded Gingerbread 2.3.5 CDMA Droid Razr XT912 Verizon USA [Fastboot Files] and RSDlite so I could get my phone back to stock. Well before I was able to get into the fastboot loader my phone's battery ended up dieing. I plug it in to charge and it shows an empty battery with a question mark in the middle of it. Some please help cause I don't know if my battery is even taking a charge or if there is a better method to getting this fixed.
How long have you let it sit on the charger? You need a factory cable from team black hat. Google it. Not sure if they have any left out of this batch though.

You can also make a charging cable if your so inclined, instructions are around here somewhere.

I think there are 2 fast boot menus. Get to that screen again and hit volume down until you see "AP Fast boot" or something like that. Then hit volume up. Try RSD again.

No, you can purchase the cable from "Team Black Hat". The factory cable allows you to flash on RSD Lite without requiring your phone to have battery charge.

i dont know if it really charges because i dont feel the battery gets hot but try this :
1 . conect the usb cable normaly to the pc and phone
2 press the power button and the vol - botton for a while till the phone restarts
2 right away press the 2 vol +and- toghether
3 the white battery light comes on and its suposingly charging
if it doesnt go on and the menue comes on, got to fastboot and then hit the power botton
5 when the phone is off disconect and conect the usb cable and the white light should be on now

Charging a drained battery

Ok, I tried root, installing a new recovery and then installing CM 7.2
1) Photon Torpedo for root - no problem
2) Installed CWM recovery apk - and then boot into CWM recovery - no problem
3) Backup system to sdcard - no problem
4) install CM7.2 + gapps - it flashed no problem
(now as you can tell, i forgot to unlock the bootloader)
5) reboot - PROBLEM
I got the "Failed to Boot 2" error, i had it plugged into AC and had 70-80% charge when i started, however, i let it set after the reboot for 20 or so minutes, was off doing something.
I tried rebooting a couple of time, same problem
EVENTUALLY: It would simply not turn on anymore, i think the battery is drained and it will not charge being plugged into wall socket or USB.
How do I get it to charge?
- Do I find a friend with a photon running stock that i can put my battery in, will it charge that way?
- Can a sprint store simply charge the battery for me?
I figure once I can get that going, I can run RSD lite and recover via an SBF image.
Thanks
This has happened to me.. battery drains and doesn't whant to boot.. what I do is.. take battery out., plug in ur charger.(sometimes you get a white light,) press power button, YOU KIGHT HAVE TO TRY SEVERAL TIMES until the green light comes on..but once you see it put your battery back in.. and it should start charging.

When I say several times.. I ment unplugging your phone from charger, plug back in , push power button.. and again( until it powers on) not just pressing power button until. Didn't know if I specified well enough. Hope this helps.

i actually tried a different usb port a bit ago and have a white indicator light on now while plugged in... not sure what that means
I will try your way in a bit if this doesn't mean anything useful tho... thanks
K, am nor really sure what the white light is either.. I just know, on stock when you plugged phone to charge (being dead) green light turns on,screen Motorola logo shows then goes to a battery charging animation.. the white light did nothing for me. But hope you run better luck.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
after about 5 minutes i got a green light now... maybe the software for the battery charge display got whacked when i wiped system and tried to install CM 7 - but the hardware part of the charge works.
The only thing I can think of is that white means: i'm charging, but don't try to boot me up at the moment.
I also notice, once it gets a charge it tries to automatically boot - anyway to avoid this?
If its charging you should be able to just boot into RSD lite mode without the phone trying to boot into a ROM..

Well, every time it boots i get the

Something about NvFlash (can't remember the text)

K, let me power my phone off and kinda try to recreate the "not charging while plugged in" problem.. (sometimes it happens when I power off.) And ill see wich method gets the phone to just charging.. br
worse comes to worse, i know someone with a photon and i can ask if i can charge my battery in their phone
Just tried it.. and yeah phone wouldn't boot or charge by pressing the power button or connecting to charger.. but I did what I always do.. pull battery, connect charger, green light turns on, I insert battery, and goes to charging.. I also tried goin on RSD lite mode without battery inserted. And I got the same error about battery to low to flash. Have you tried this method I just wrote in this reply to get battery to charge?
Sent from my Mopho Cm7.2
Here are a couple things i tried
1) remove battery
2) make sure phone is not connected to charger
3) plug in charger
4) logo appears - says "Failed to boot 2"
5) as "Starting RSD Mode" starts, i have inserted the battery
6) I still get "Battery is too low to flash"
also tried tried with vol-up (Fast boot mode) and vol-down (NvFlash recovery mode) - and ultimately i get "Battery is too low to flash" no matter what
Thanks for the help, however.
side note: found an external battery charger for the photon on amazon for $4, i might just buy one.
Did u insert battery before logo appears? If so, then I am out of ideas, lol hopefully you can get it working soon.
Sent from my Mopho Cm7.2
I just tried something like that now. The charger is plugged into the wall outlet. Basically i plug it in, green light comes on, quickly snap the battery in place before logo appears
I get the logo and the messages at top as normal, but at that point, i don't think it is charging anymore
Lol darn it.. at that point am out of options.. sorry it didn't work.. btw how you forget to be unlocked lol.. anyhow I would go to your friends, borrow his charged battery just so you can get to stock, and start fresh, then return battery obviously, lol

Yeah i have to charge it elsewhere - i just read some other threads here about people messing up their boot with a "Failed to boot 2" error, the system simply will nto charge a battery at the boot loading screens... so, I bought that charger off amazon for $7 (including shipping), be nice to have it if i continue to fiddle with the phone.
for the next few days... people can't call me... whoop de doo. However, I am pretty certain it is not bricked, so i'm not freaked anymore.
Still, thanks for all the help you tried!
Could you post a link for that charger, I have a second battery I would like to be able to charge.
Lol.. well there u go,

Help!!!! Don't know what I did wrong!!!!

Hello, I've been using my old x2 as my PDA/MP3 player. I also have put custom ROM on it because... It's fun!!
What's not fun is my locked up phone, here's what occurred... I tried to sbf my phone and received an error flashing (had all correct Motorola drivers/rsd lite. So as it failed and never even cleared out my phone I decided to use my iso boot disk instead. The disk came up, ran normal, said flashing was complete..... nightmare began....
Now I cannot boot into recovery New/old. I can't boot the phone. I can't do anything. The phone starts, I get the Motorola dual core screen (can't hold volume keys to get to rsd/fastboot/etc. The phone will get to the point of booting but will come up with screen which says...
"Failed to boot number 4"
"Starting rsd....."
Then when I go into try anything rsd (iso disk or rsd lite) the phone will either shut off right away and loop sometimes to same screen. Or it will come back when plugged into pc saying battery (which is fully charged) is to low to flash....
I'm going crazy...
Are there any other restore tactics?
I can't erase battery stats because I have no recovery... I've always followed instructions and flash roms for nearly every manufacturer of phones over the years. I am stumped....

First, make sure the battery is charged up. You can't RSD without at least 20% battery. Simply plug it in and let it charge, then try again after about an hour.
Also, make sure you are using the correct SBF file. It could've been a bad download, or worse you flashed one for another phone.
I've had nothing but trouble RSDLite and personally only use sbf_flash. So using the iso boot disk is recommended by me.
Yes, I agree that rsd lite will never again be the way I go. The disk had been much handier. Only problem is that I was out of disks, I was also without my CD in the office. I have done plenty of rsd reboot/reflash. Didn't expect this which is why I then went, got my CD, tried again.
Strange thing is the disk is what brought the issue I have at hand to light. So...
I really appreciate the insight for future occurrence avoidance.
How would you suggest fixing problem at hand?
The battery is full charge... It's that 2.3.5 battery glitch still coming back to light. The battery should be full. Now I end up in that strange loop, I don't even know if my battery is now charging or not...
Ugh... I really wish I could figure out exactly where I went wrong as well.
Thanks again for the response!

So you still only have access to RSD on the phone? Or did it accept the SBF? I'm thinking that you flashed another phone's sbf file.

Yes, if you could re-read my first post for sake of my key stroke would be great. The phone does not boot I'll try and snap a quick pic with other phone and show what happens. This is only thing which happens in a complete loop... can't get into new or old restore/bootstrap. Can't get it to load any of the basic rsd menu options. If I plug into pc it tells me battery is not charged enough. Or just shuts down with disk or boot CD. It's insane!
It's most definitely the RIGHT folder. All of my phone have their own nearly organized files. None of them flash the same way. Droid X2, HTC EVO 4G, Galaxy Nexus..... Yeah, I know the files ok but good thought!

Have you tried to turn the phone off, put it directly into RSD mode then run RSD program with the correct SBF file?
That's the problem, I never can "put" it in to rsd mode. I start the phone simply by plugging it in it automatically boot into that loop. Nothing I've found will load such as restore, boot loader, etc.
When it says it's going into rsd, it either turns itself off when in that phase and I start rsd. Or it will give me an error stating battery is not charged enough (it's got a full charge, already tested with multimeter)

If you got a spare charger around can jerry rig it. If you know what im talking about. If that don't work with the battery issue then if your under contract I'd go get a replacement. Do it by phone as they will not check your device once you send it back.
I've got plenty of spare charger...
What do you mean "Jerry rig" though?

Cut the end off that plugs into your phone, then use the ground and hot wire inside the power cord. Put them on the correct ends of the battery without touching the others, can tape them to it then put the battery back in the phone making sure the wires don't move or touch anything else. Then have the one with wires on your battery plugged into the wall, the usb from your phone to your computer then turn RSD on your phone, then try to SBF it. If you still get that arrow do the other option and call and get a replacement. Ive saved a many of phones doing the jerry rigging of the charge. But if it works and you can SBF then when the steps are complete undo the wires and walla.
I like it!
Let me get some stuff together and put this to the test!
I'll post my results!
Thanks!

This is the EXACT thing that happened to me about to weeks ago when trying to SBF back to 2.3.4, a task that I've done many times.
I got the "failed to boot" etc screen that you have. Basically I kept trying to SBF (it still wasn't working) and eventually I got the "battery too low to flash" screen.
Since the battery wasn't actually charging at all because of this weird boot screen, I had to drive down to my local RadioShack where they had some device that would charge ANY battery. It was sweet, AND they let me use it for free at their store. So they popped my X2 battery in and I went to the nearest bookstore to get some work done. Came back two hours later and my battery was charged.
But that's all besides the point. Basically what I did to fix it was I kept trying to SBF and eventually it worked. I downloaded another 2.3.4 sbf file to make sure (even though I've used the same file many times) and I even downloaded a 2.3.5 sbf file and began "alternating" between the three in rsd lite, hoping that one of them would "catch". Eventually I believe my original 2.3.4 file caught and my droid was back to normal.
Sorry for your troubles! This problem sucked and it freaked me out a lot when it happened. But I think you'll be fine. Don't worry too much about it like I did!

I have had problems with my DroidX2 not staying charged while being plugged-in to the a usb port on the computer ... I had to use a usb wall-wart for consistent chargeing.
So, if your battery is haveing trouble staying charged (or not) try connecting it to a usb wall-wart and let it charge for at least a couple (~2) hours.
Also, how old is the battery? (I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with you issue, but it could affect chargeing and battery-life)

The following steps can also be seen here -or- see the original sbf/rsd instructions (note: the sbf files are not available at this time)
key instructions at step #10:
With the X2 in a completely POWERED DOWN state, press and hold the volume up button on the top right hand side of the phone. While still holding the volume up press and hold the power button until the screen turns on. At the top of the screen you should see "Starting RSD protocol support" once this text appears you may release the volume up button.
