This is a known issue of 2.3.3 alpha kernel, I've got rid of it by using new Olleh kernel, shipping in DSC 0.5

[Q] JI6 OTA zip Roms and Kernels?

Total NOOB here, but I get confused on all the posts.
At one point I ran the Eugene's Vibrant4 rom with one RyanZA's one click lag fix on the one click root.
I ended up going back to stock and waiting for the JI6 OTA. I got impatient and downloaded the JI6 OTA zip from ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802240
Now I'm just running that on an unrooted Vibrant. I was wondering what is the best Kernel / Rom / LagFix to go with after this update? Are there any yet for the version listed in the link as it is not the leaked version of JI6? (having a hard time deciphering Roms and kernels for leak vs OTA JI6)
Also I have the larger nand chip according to the post here ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8322865&postcount=131
I was wanting to try the JAC XMOD ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791478
or the kingklick ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787410 but I don't wanna mess up my phone, I'm poor as heck and need my phone.
I also want to speed up my phone if at all possible and maybe lengthen battery life... (might be asking too much lol )
Any posts appreciated, and yes I know I'm noob!
yes you might be asking too much. I am currently running Simbionix 1.7 with jac's kernel with voodoo on the J12 modem O/C to 1.2. You will instantly see the speed of your phone increase.
I flashed the J12 modem because its supposed to give you increased battery life. After following the instruction on reconditioning the battery, It still wasn't that great even though others are reporting great battery life. I am going for broke and flashing Bionix 1.7 w/Jacs OC/UV/VOODOO kernel w/ the J16 modem tonight.
First step is rooting your phone with the one click root program and try them all out if you like. Its hard to mess up this phone as you can always flash back to stock with Odin. Even there is a few bugs with Sim1.7 its still a great rom and will be using it this till Froyo is released.
ok, thanks badaphooko01. I guess I will try the Jacs but not sure if I should be trying the voodoo version cause of the larger nand chip.
Ok so I had installed the one click root and Rom Manager, used them to load the Bionix 1.7 w/Jacs OC/UV/VOODOO kernel w/ the J16 modem even tho I see that voodoo is disabled due to my nand chip...and I haven't bought the SetCPU app yet.
Seems like my battery life went up huge even though I haven't yet reconditioned the battery. It was too late to finish after I loaded the rom, had to sleep for work. I figured I would recondition tonight but as it's going I may not need to.
This rom DOES help battery life and it sped up my phone so I am truly happy with it.
Thanks for the input.
Side note, I haven't noticed any freezes or reboots yet due to not having setCPU installed. But I also haven't had time to get all the apps I had previously back on my phone either. :/

You shouldn't be getting freezes or reboots at all. The only way I could see that happening is if you installed SetCPU and set the minimum clock speed below 200MHz. Right now without SetCPU installed you are running on the stock speeds of 200min / 1000max which should be fine.

Makes sense now, thanks for the info, I was thinking the rom oc'd the processor by script or something, now I can stop worrying lol.

Best kernal?

Alright I had to change it up and ask what the best miui kernal is?
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
IMHO , Streamline kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324212
I've always been really fond of platypus tbh, but I've been hearing really good things about streamline
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
Haven't been on MIUI or CM7 for a while, but when when I was Platypus was my kernel.
Glitch, smoothest and fastest.
I benchmarked against 3 other kernels.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
I'm currently using MIUI Lithium 6.0 and love the smoothness and customisability of the ROM. The developer has chosen EB3 Streamline kernel due to some battery issues and it has been good so far (76% after 17h of light use). However, this has affected the quadrant score. I wonder if switching to Glitch might improve the performance and battery life?
There is no "best" IMO. Each phone will respond different to each situation. Also each kernel is tweak per each dev. Dev's build some for performance, battery, gps, stock(ish), or a combination.
Try then all and see what works for you - suggest the kernel cleaning script in between though.
For me:
My phone responds well to Platypus and Streamline, but my priority is stability and battery. I don't overclock (I under-volt though).
EDIT:
Check it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18505507&postcount=3
im running platypus but bali is also as good.
I REALLLLY NEED HELPPPPPPP!! I have a samsung vibrant (USA VERSION) and i was trying to install froyo 2.2 using odin, Instead, by mistake i flashed the 2.2 european version turning my vibrant into a GT-I9000, now each time i try to reboot my phone into download mode it won't do it, i want to reboot into download mode so that i can reflash my phone back to the american version since now this GT-I9000 isn't reading my tmobile network and i CANNOT make phone calls nor receive them. I've tried all sort of ways to try to reboot into download mode, holding the volume up, home and power button etc etc.., holding both volume up and down and plugging the uSB cable with odin on and nothing has worked, if ANYONE KNOWS OF A WAY PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HELP ME! email me at [email protected] with a solution to my problem if you know of any, thank you in advance!

406 rom query

Currently running original 406 rom.
Giving 1450 on quadrant, 37/38 on linpack with stageui running.
Very stable, no reboots.
I have tried steves gingerstreak all the way up to 2.4.4 and the speed is great but kept getting the random reboots especially when disconnecting wifi or mains from charging.
I have tried _nop_s dsc roms right up to 0.55b and it is very stable with the same speed as what i am getting on tue 406 rom but this comes at the cost of overclocking up to 1075 due to battery saving from kernal undervoltage.
I have posted this as a real question on what will happen if i continue to use the 406 rom? The maniis warning is what is worrying me.
Ideally the rom seems perfect to me, good speed, perfect stability, obviously no overclock tho.
Whats peoples views?
Any insite welcome!
Anybody else using it?
This is no way having a go at steve/fards/_nop_(& anybody i have missed out) as i have great respect for these people doing fantastic work.

DSC has much better battery drainage a measured 10 % over the 406 for the same speed and if you follow the thread, some of the problems with the 406 are already solved in DSC while they still exist on the 406 which was just a leaked beta , so DSC is far more superior compared to 406 , as for the dreadful warnings, do not believee all you hear, since was just a simple typo on the installer of the .mbn files, a problem already resolved in DSC. Obviously if you continue using 406 you will have a better sex life.

Thanx for the response.
So does this mean that once the 406 rom is installed you wont get any problems wih the rom?
I found dsc 0.55b used qute a lot of battery on wifi but very stable tho!
My opinion..

First, my opinion below is not as a developer but as a aggressive knowledge hunger user and tester....
As I know clearly, 406 Rom was announced by Olleh KT (Korea Telecom) with KT's official comments ( I read by myself as a Korean) that still "not perfect".., it didn't mean may seriously will damage the DS5..
KT, as one of major carrier in Korea, I don't think KT officially distributed 406 rom before... even no further upgrading...
As I checked every websites and forums in Korean posted about this 406 Rom no matter from developers or users, I couldn't find out any serious report because of using 406 Rom SO I assume 406 is ok..
But the truth is a lot of developers in Korea also posting custom roms from XDA with translating in Korean !!!
I am keeping on changing and testing each rom posted in XDA whenever our genius frien updated, I believe all custom roms have their own advantages and disadvantages on top of 406.. choice will be yours.
I am now using PowerRom with 406 Kernel / portrait mode / LauncherPro + spb 3D Shell / Erase QQ Launder & StageUI from the system... not very fast but steady... light...with good battery consumption so far...
If use heavily, mostly crash with lanuncher (for me ADW was most..) SPB is rather slow compare to Launcher pro but never crashed, very solid... so I guess rom with right luncher's combination will be important...
Where can I get the 406 kernel ?

When changing CPU speed above 1.42 phone locks up

Im running liquid gingerbread v3.0 and no matter what I do if I change the processed speed while it boots up over 1.42 it locks completely up and I have to do a battery pull and sometimes if I boot up above 1.42 it locks up randomly anyways I've tried a wipe and I tried a different kernal imoseyen 6.2.1 I believe im gonna try one more kernal and will update the results but I don't have much hope

this is correct... i can clock mine up to ~1700 no problems, untill the screen goes to sleep and then all goes south if i keep it under 1400 its all good. but honestly there is no point to going over 12-1300 benchmark results are neglegably improved and you are killing your battery and running the risk of burning up your equipment.
Each ThunderBolt handles overclocking differently as mentioned above. The expansion and contraction of the metal and other materials when heating and cooling vary from device to device, so one thunderbolt might be able to get up to 1.7GHz, and another might not be able to handle 1.2GHz.
Also, as mentioned above, clocking over 1.2GHz is really pointless. I honestly never overclock my phone. No need in my opinion.
Like mentioned above I really see no need to go above 1.4, but if you wanted you could always raise the voltage on those higher frequencies so it wouldnt lock up.
Thank you guys it isn't really that I want or need to go over 1.4 and I rarely ever do it is more me being a perfectionist. But its strange Ive had liquid before on here and it always ran five and I usually left it at 1.5 and it never really started acting weird till about 1.8 and it was the same version v3.0.
*Edit* just out of curiousity I booted up and older recovery of liquid 3.0 with the stock kernal and it ran up 1.8 fine?
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA App
Different roms run different kernels/versions of kernels, which in turn use different voltages. If a kernel was undervolted, its less likely to handle higher speeds.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt powered by KillaSense 3.5.0
Are you clocking that high just to do it?? In reality I just use smartass v2 and clock at 1222 and it stays snappy and doesn't demolish my battery...
Sent from Shift Ao5p ic3 overclocked unlocked and ready to rock.
I must be a lucky one. I overclock to 1.7 and my phone runs super stable.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
That's the thing though it's the exact same rom liquid gingerbread v3.0 with the stock kernal I can go up to 1.8 before it gives me any problems and even then it just acts weird

{Q} - Galaxy SII overheat issue

Dear Family,
i have a problem with my galaxy SII since i got the phone tell now
i've got this handheld 6 month back and its now rooted having ICS AOKP RR 2.2 with CM kernel remix
and the device is getting overheated in the part of the camera , the overheat is happening when ever am browsing the net on WIFI or even 3G
i searched the internet regarding the same and i got that the issue is in the base-band so i flashed KH3 and nothing was changed
i flashed my device with amout 300 ROM (official/unofficial) and nothing change in this issue
also i found that my device sometimes is stucked on 1200 MHz for about 5 MINS without a valid reason in the foreground
appreciate your cooperation
Regards,
Moe
Mine heats up too, if you think about how much stuff is crammed into such a thin, light phone it's no wonder it gets hot
Don't worry about it
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
You have to worry when battery temp reaches more then 50 degree C, turn of phone for 2 mins then
Their are apps on market to measure it

300 ROM??? Hmmm... Anyway I m also having(probably Had ) the heating issue... First Kernel-Siyah 3.2.x was heating while talking in call also.. Used to heat up like anything. Now on Fluxi heat reduced but not completely.. Today I called my frend to McD to check his SGS2 phone.. His phone is purely stock and was runnning ICS official 4.0.3.. For normal use the phone dint heat, neither mine.. Now the heat game started when I watched a Video(Not HD) even in mine also But gud thing was mine was not as heated as his may be because of Kernel or anything I dunno.. The main thing s battery shouldn get heated too much... But I dunno many ppl not having heating issue... S2 s so thin that heat has too dissipate thru somewhere so it uses the camera region... Try using the phone with low brightness it might be helpful also try KI4(correct me if i m wrong!!) modem. I din try that modem yet...

Try pulling the battery for 5 minutes to let it cool, then replace it. You can also try under clocking to 800 /1000 mhz to save some battery and not let it go to 1200mhz

Thanks very much for your replies plz note the below
* i'm a big fan of Siyah Kernel and i tried most of its versions giving me the same result.
* i tried to make the device lock itself on the max usage with 800 MHz
* the battery's Temp is about 35 C
* i remember that 2.3.5 was the only version that i have which is not having this issue.
* it seems that everyone tried something and it worked for him but everybody's something is not working with me.
* the overheat issue is in arc and arc s too
* the other issue that am living in Egypt and Temp pretty high.

i flashed the modem KH3 and nothing happens i did down clocking the processor and nothing happens
This phone is stupid sometimes. Just sat in my pocket for the last hour doing nothing.wifi off
The battery drops from 89% to 65%
I take the phone out and its super hot
Says 49 degrees which isnt dangerous but it is very noticable in the pocket and to hold. and the chart says the phone was awake through that whole time without the screen on.
As soon as I start using the phone again it starts to cool down.
Bit annoying how often this happens.
i never had this issue on gingerbread
is there a fix for it?
Install BetterBatteryStats and check which program causes the wakelock. While ago Google Chrome was known to create this issue.
