[Q] Boot Manager Variables - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all. I downloaded Boot Manager through Android Market. I noticed Samsung Fascinate was not supported but I thought what the heck let's try it. Since it's unsupported, I need to put in some variables. Can I get some help with these questions or where to find them. I'm really trying to have a dual boot phone so I can use my normal rom during the work day and test out different roms so I don't ruin my good rom. Thanks all!
What Device Do You Have?
**I put Samsung Fascinate**
What is you sdcardblock?
What is your system's size in mb?
What is your data's size in mb?
What is your cache's size in mb?

Sorry for the double post. I have figured out from some serious digging some of the questions. The only one I have left is "What is your sdcardblock"?
I found that someone else from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190372&page=4 put down this for a different phone: /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 Does this hold true for the fascinate as well? I don't want to screw anything up to bad even though I made a nandroid. Thanks

Working?

Luckily for me i was still under Costos 30 day buyers remorse period and they exchanged it for me no questions asked, dude even let me keep my accessories and the 2gb card.. Also ppl may not want to answer due to this not being posted in the QUESTIONS & ANSWERS section of the forum.. hope u get ur problem fixed though.

this would be why they always post that they are not responsible if it kills your device or messes it up in any way because you can harm it by doing this some times. Also shouldnt this go within the Frank-wiz section or Q/A?
I am going to have to jump to conclusions here and assume that you do NOT READ instructions very well.
Cause if you did, this would be posted in the FrankinTwiz Final thread or in Q & A
Flash back to stock via Odin, Kernel, baseband, etc. all of it. and re-partition. If that does not help then you need to get a replacement. Will be easy though, everything you have done to your phone will be wiped. Just play dumb (shouldnt be hard)

[Q] Returning to stock after Axura [UPDATE LAST POST]

Before anyone asks, yes I searched! Looked through numerous pages of crap without any results.
Today, I rooted my Vibrant, and flashed Axura 2.2.7
To be quite frank about it, I hate it. It is slower than my phone was previously, and is slightly annoying to me. After rooting and flashing the custom ROM, I seen all the threads about a supposed OTA update tomorrow. I understand I cannot get the OTA update while on a custom ROM.
With the combo of not being able to receive the OTA (if it happens) and not liking Axura, I'd like to return to stock, but I'm confused!
Could someone point me in the right direction towards returning back to the way my phone was hours ago?
Thanks in advance,
Syko.
Odin would be your best bet use jfd tar file and 512pit file then odin the ji6 tar file all can be found in the developers section, if you would like I can upload said files when I get home.
Sent from my SGH-T959
Go to the thread "[REF]***Vibrant Directory(Bible)Rev3.0--Important announcement!--***(1/6/2011)***" in Developmental section and get ODIN 1.7 from Useful links category. Also get PIT and PDA file from the "*(ROM) OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN3/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working) --justanothercrowd" from Roms (Odin3) category.
Open ODIN and load the PIT file from the last thread to the PIT input and the PDA file to the PDA input.
Connect phone to computer while in Download mode (I hold volume up and down while plugging USB to do this).
Press Start in ODIN.
Should flash and restore stock.
Thanks for the information!
P.S. - Your links didnt work, but I'll find em!
Also, another quick question.
After doing what you said, do I just reinstall Titanium Backup from the market and reload all my backed up data from the internal_SD?
how can i wipe the internal sd?

HAHA im not going to get into link-war with you, bud...just watch the stickies, more often than not, the answers are right in front of your face, then you wont have to deal with "typical dickheads"
Confusing
I will say that it is incredibly difficult to get a grasp on this stuff for a newbie, especially flashing, dealing witk kernels, etc. Even though all of this information is contained within stickies, it is still very, very confusing.
You open a stickie and see a bunch of random-colored text - some are links, some aren't. It's much easier to simply ask a question and let an expert respond. Your posts denigrating such a person do nothing but clutter the threads and contribute to an unfriendly environment. Just my 2 cents.

im not denying for some people, that it could be confusing.
im not a forum angel believe me hahaha noooo way, however i will say that when i first joined XDA, i was overwhelmed with information too, but i kept with it and did my own research, because the few times i asked questions i either got flamed, or no one answered at all. so i stopped asking, and started researching.
also, you have to understand, that even though there are probably some people who get legitimately confused and overwhelmed...everyone knows that the majority of people who ask questions are simply being lazy. IM NOT SAYING THATS WHAT ANYONE HERE IS DOING, but im just saying its a fact. People want answers, not research.
so when someone says "i searched but couldnt find anything", but the stickies are right at the top of the page. theres nothing in that statement the indicates he looked at the stickie, or found his information, but is still having trouble understanding. thats why he was pounced on a little (not even that badly btw haha, ive seen muuuuuuch worse)
if you read something that you dont understand, post a link and point out what you dont understand about it....that way no one can challenge you. pre-emptive strikes!!!
Fair enough.
So, since you seem to know your way around this stuff, could you advise me on something?
I flashed my first ROM the other day (Axura 2.2.6) after reading a lot on this site. Now that T-MO is set to release official Froyo, I am not sure what to do. I really do not know if I want to go back to stock and get the official 2.2, because won't that put all the T-Mo bloatware back on my device? Plus, I figure that once the de3vs get access to the 2.2 source, their 2.2 ROMs will be bettee than the official one anyway. Your thoughts? Should I just sit tight? Thanks in advance.
Having an issue with this now.
-Downloaded the .PIT file and the .TAR (PDA?) file from the sticky.
-Loaded ODIN3 v1.70.
-Put each file in its appropriate spot
-Put phone into download mode
-Hit Start on ODIN
And nothing happened, other than ODIN saying this immediately.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
The boxes Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, and Reset time are all 3 checked when I opened ODIN. No others are.
PHONE, CSC, Etc., and Dump input lines are all empty.
What went wrong?
Edit:
Forgot to add, I downloaded VooDoo Toggle before doing any of this, and turned VooDoo OFF, rebooted phone and successfully got the "Voodoo Disabled" voice from the phone
Getting desperate. To me this phone is junk now. I've never experienced any negative things running it all stock with just a simple root done. Always heard, and I suppose "expected" ROMS to run faster, and just flat out, this one does not.
I've tried redoing the sequences told to in ODIN three times now all with the same results. End up having to pull the plug, pop the battery out, and allow it to reboot again.

Are you 100% sure you have the correct drivers installed? And you are in download mode ?
Try using the drivers from this source. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929 use the links provided in the first post.
This sticky should have just about everything you need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737

meh I bricked it. Woke up still in download mode and Odin unchanged from where I left it. Pulled the cord, and pulled the battery. when powered back up I got the "Phone ! Computer" display.
I think ODIN hung up on my mom's laptop that I was using (Constantly happens..) So Im in the process of downloading all the files needed on my desktop. Stupid JFD file takes forever to download =\

SIT TIGHT.
trustm e.
the new froyo is NOT worth it.
its laggier than the 2.1 we have.
theres about 5% more bloatware added.
mostly, the whole thing sucks right now.
wait a while, till devs make their own roms better using this, but heres one you can use thats pretty fast currently, and is stock, but modified with no bloatware etc.

[Q] Help me, URGENT.

Right, i got a Sll, and that Sll is second hand, it gave me a lot of problems when i bought it till now, anyway, the problem:
The problem is that my fone stays awake for 30 seconds and then it just blocks itself, as in, the touch screen just collapses, you can see whats on the screen, you just can't move it...i put EVERY ROM EXISTING, i even put Jelly Bean in to it, i took it to '' The Phone House '' and saw if it was the battery, nope.
All that relates to it is that the camara burns up really quickly ( don't know if it's got something to do with the problem ) but they told me thats where the micro chip is, i can't youse my fone cos of this, help me please.

I have no idea bro, i never bothered the whole ' Kernel ' thing, but im guessing i'v used the Kernels the forums gave me to root, unroot, unbrick and change Android version.
PD: Could we talk by MP?
as you wish, still there's plenty kernel stuff to go around.
in the end it's just a matter of trying what kernell works better for you and your device.

[Q] HELP! My phone wont let me do anything

After scouring for two days I am just giving up and asking for help. Here is what happened. I have a At&t Galaxy Note. It was rooted but very glitchy. Kept shutting off, weird lines going through the screen, my camera didnt work. I know for that process I did TWRP and cyanogenmod. I went back to att stock from a forum found here. After I did that I had no google apps anywhere. SO my brother found some gapps.zip thing. He put it on my phone after I had restored back to a previous version that did have them. Now my phone wont stay on for longer than a minute. I cant get it to recognize on my computer. So I cant even try to get into it to see if I can fix anything. Everytime I conntect it, a message pops up that says that it cannot install MTP... Even if I restore again, as I have tried. It is still not letting me use it. Then my brother decided to re root it I guess. And that is all well and fine but i still cant use my phone. I saw something about a .zip that removes gapps but I havent been able to use that as my phone just wont install it in recovery mode. Can someone please please help me!!!!

wow. the first few sentences were making sense, then you just lost it grammar wise and lost me. it would have helped knowing what ROM was on your phone. from symptoms it sounds as if t was a 4.2 ROM with no GAPPS and some serious OC/UV issues.
but you lost me with your English and the "TWRP and CYANOGENMOD thingy" i know what they are obviously, but what you did with them is a HUGE guessing game. one person not knowing what they are doing is bad enough, but two of you.......... cant do that man. kind of like masturbating with someone elses hand man. who cleans up the mess.
absolute clean slate is going to be you best option in my opinion. the "Super Everything Thread" is going to be your new best friend.
read it, live it, learn it......................understand it. put yourself in position to help yourself first.
tutorals on YOUTUBE can help too.
can you get DOWNLOAD MODE?
do you have ODIN?
do you have PDA/ TAR files you need?
you may need to re-install the DRIVERS for phone on computer
there is a glossary in Super thread, that is why i capped these words. key points and things you need to do. its a marathon not a sprint.
go slow, one step at time, understand what you are doing. even rehearse it, i did. be confident in what you are doing. make sure you have files for I717.
read the OP's for ROM's
some need GAPPS (4.2) and some don't (4.1.2) or Touchwiz
the new 4.3 will also need GAPPS and there are 4.2 and 4.3 GAPPS. again make sure you have right files. all the more reason to take your time.
and uh, don't just let someone flash whatever on your phone, that's how you get a BRICK.
good luck and let us know.
if i have stated anything wrong, someone else will be buy to correct.
nothing wrong with how i am telling, others just may have shortcuts.
what you do with it is up to you, i just like to understand what i am doing, cause i will have to fix it.
but keep us posted

Im sorry, Im just really frustrated. My phone was working fine yesterday and now its a very expensive paperweight. And not only that but Im having problems with my laptop. Apparently the hard drive just went clonkers for no reason and now I have to put in a new one. Yes I can get into download mode. Yes I have Odin. Yes I have the PDA/TAR files. I made sure everything was for the sgh i717. I read each process ten times before I did it. I installed my drivers from the Samsung website. I think my problem is that the internal sd card isnt being recognized. When I go into recovery mode, which is CMW btw, it gives me an eemc 07 error message and says it cant mount. When I can get my phone to stay on long enough for thecpu to recognize it it doesnt say sd card just phone memory. I will be sure to read the super everything thread. As for a ROM there isnt one on here. If I try to put one one it wont install and keeps saying that eemc 07 error message. Thanks for responding. Im spiraling in self-pity right now but im determined to get my phone back.
If you get it back to stock, do a complete erase/format, and your still having all these glitches, there's a good chance there's hardware issues. Especially if your not able to see the external SD card etc.
If your the original owner (I.E. you got it from a dealer with a plan), and you can get your counter reset to 0 on stock with these issues still showing up, it might be easiest to take it in and get a replacement. That is, if you have a warranty option available.

Its not the external sd but the internal one. Its just gone... I know that this is the problem at this point. But I have no idea how to resolve that issue. I have no idea where it is or how to get it back. I have been on xda and droidforums for an extreme amount of time trying to find a solution but nothing going. The only way I have seen to reset my counter is to use triangle away. As I cannot even use my phone due to freezing and restarting I cannot even install that app. I am hoping that one person in the wide world has had this problem and fixed it and will read this and tell me how to fix it.
Status 7 means you need to update you recovery

you know, something going wrong with mine was my biggest worry. when I decide to screw something up, I can really screw something up. so I was very hesitant. it probably took me 2-3 months to get the courage to flash. but that was most likely a good thing. it made me be very thorough in the process.
all I am saying is don't let it completely discourage you. you have time.
glad you got phone back, I know it can be a bit of a scary thing. I have come across an issue or two myself and actually surprised myself by fixing myself. actually a pretty good feeling.
anyway, stick around, there are some pretty amazing folks here.

[Q] new to android. interested in rooting

Hi guys,
After years of other phones and recently iphones, ive now just got an android.
Im interested in playing around, so would like to root my phone.
I have the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 running 4.1.2
Its a UK phone and is on Three network.
I need pointing in the right direction on whats best to do/first projects.
Do I need to unlock my phone from my network if it is locked to my network (I dont know yet)
And ive seen the video on this site for the S3 and im guessing ill have to go by the second way of rooting as im also guessing my phone would be classed as international? Also it said that one of the cons would be an increased flash counter - what is this?
I would like to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722136 due to like all of them, my audio is quite poor when plugged into my amp, I need to increase the volume MUCH more on the amp than on anything else I would plug into it.
Would this be a good one to start on?
Any tips and advice would be awesome, and maybe when I get some work under my belt I may be able to give some input myself on here
Many Thanks

Any tips and advice would be awesome, and maybe when I get some work under my belt I may be able to give some input myself on here
Many Thanks

I'll definitely be doing alot of research and making sure i understand before I start anything. Ive come across nandroid which will be very handy!!!
Does anyone know if this can take backups of the unrooted phone.
And from what ive read, it saves everything on your SD card, So i'm guessing if I take a backup before and after doing something, I can cut and paste all previous backups to a folder on my PC to keep file size down and have just the recent workable backup on the card?
Thanks for the help s far guys.

No you need to root the phone .
Have a look at
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en_GB

Save to external sd card is an option .

YES

There is a way to backup without root but it requires advance knowledge on how ADB shell works (Even I have a hard time understanding it hence i don't use it lol) So having a custom recovery is necessary and from there doing a nandroid backup is much more simpler. You may also look at Online Nandroid which makes a backup even if the phone is not on recovery mode but only attempt this method when you fully know how to operate a rooted phone as this method also require some knowledge on how a Terminal Emulator works.
