Is anyone else Having problems getting N64oid onto their vibrant? I search the market on my phone and it doesnt even come up. When i search it on my laptop at the android markets it finds it just fine, but i cant get it couse it says my device is unsupported.
However i keep seeing new reviews which leads me to think it still works and some of the reviews are coming from fellow vibrant users. Could someone see if they can
A) Find the app on your phone through the marketplace
B) Is it supported?
i emailed the dev on it, hopefully he'll get back to me soon. But if anyone else has any answers or your having the same problem... just let me know =D
thanks!
Once this is working i will start posting ROMS that work, how well they work. I owned alot of N64 games so i'll at lest post about those. If you have it working and would like to post what works and what doesnt I'll keep this first post up to date with your guys' input. =D Thanks guys again!
That's weird, n64oid shows up fine for me. Maybe its the rom you're using?
Anyways, heres what's working:
Full speed with sound:
1. Super Mario 64
2. F-Zero
3. Pokemon Stadium 2 (w/2d glitches)
4. Super Smash Bros
5. Mario Kart
6. Wave Race
7. Banjo Kazooie
8. Diddy Kong Racing
Full speed without sound:
1. Goldeneye
2. Pokemon Stadium 1
3. Zelda Majoras Mask
4. Zelda OOT (crashes frequently)
Unplayable:
1. Perfect Dark
2. DK64
3. Conkers Bad Fur Day (noooo!!)
4. Hydro Thunder
5. All Mario Partys (graphical strobe effect)
6. Paper Mario
...the rest
What ROM are you running?
It's working fine for me
that actually might be it. Im running launcher Pro, rooted with the lag fix. I'll turn that off and see if it works.
*EDIT*
Ok, i just turned it off and im still not seeing n64oid in the marketplace. I can still see it on my laptop but its still saying unsupported device. I am on android 2.1 this isnt a 2.2 only thing is it?

ROM Gripper ++ seems to have the largest selection for an app on your phone. Just make sure you own original copies of the games you're downloading.

It says in rom gripper++ that some emulators don't show up in the market for some countries so this could be why.

You need to upgrade to 2.2
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
but then my lagfix wont work =( and before the lagfix i score around 860 and after im getting 2270. Even with 2.2 i was getting 870... i dont want 2.2 if i cant have the lagfix.
Dude... Lagfixes are included in damn near every rom here. Your quadrant score is a very superficial number like how many freckles one has. It all comes down to how smooth the UI is and I can assure you they all are very smooth and each is very unique in its own way. Do you want the ability to show your friends a high quadrant score? Or would you rather show them Wave Race 64 or any game you own 64 wise. I use this quite a bit and people in my area are more prone to be blown away with high end mobile nostalgia than a static screen . Take the plunge for flash alone at the least.
i know, but when i dont have my lag fix on my phone is stupid slow. Like, scrolling through my apps is glitchy and lame till i have the lag fix on.
Im using the vibrant toolbox to root my phone and then i put on ryanZA's OCLF lagfix.
is there a better one/way to speed up the phone?

Yes. Voodoo. The Overstock kernel is also VERY smooth. I don't even remember what my phone was like.before Voodoo.
Really if you've already rooted, there's no reason you shouldn't go ahead and upgrade to 2.2. Voodoo is a far better lagfix, and if you get a kernel like Overstock that supports it, you can have awesome enhancements like Voodoo Sound and Color, and BLN (let's you use your touch keys as an LED notification, blinking and all).
i actually remember why i went back to 2.1
i had just upgraded to 2.2 and that night my phone almost commited suicde. It was on my desk all by its self, nothing on it, under it or around it. It kept buzzing at me at like 3am till i finally got out of bed to see what was up.
It was SCREAMING hot and the screen had a flashing thermameder on it. It was all plugged in fine no problems... i of course unplugged it for the rest of the night. But yah...
so i just put 2.2 back on my phone. I turned off the lag fix, uninstalled the program, turned off launcher pro and uninstalled it then unrooted my phone and did the upgrade with kies mini... got done installing and rebooted and now my phone is just sitting here going buzz.......buzz.......buzz buzz...... in about 1 minute intervals on an off screen...
**EDIT**
opp got it. I Went into clockwork and reset everything then rebooted and its up. But anywho, has anyone elses phones tried to commit suicide while they were sleeping?
PS- holy crap this phone is really laggy now that i have it all "normal" ... =( strange how use to stuff you get huh...
so should i root first, put on OverStock and then apply voodoo?
First of all, stop caring about quadrant scores. Smartbench is where its at. Quadrant scores are incredibly inaccurate and easy to fool, not to mention heavily pro-htc.
Edit:
Anyways, for your lag problem, try installing a reliable custom rom like bionix-v or trigger, their stock kernels also come preinstalled with voodoo.

Smartbench, i'll remember that. =D Thanks for the heads up so i dont look as stupid in the future ;P
EDIT
Can i get a quick link to those Overstock and Voodoo, says search is disabled try again in a few minutes. I can just flash that rom onto my phone with the vibrant toolbox right?
EDIT again...
I just tried rooting my phone and it saying it failed to install the packages... =P I think between my phone almost cooking to death and not being able to root is why i went back to 2.1..... im using vibrant toolbox.
Overstock is on page one of the android development section. Don't worry so much on a separate link to Voodoo just read the OP's of a rom that you will settle on found also in the android development section. Listed there they will tell if the rom already has Voodoo injected also if it comes activated upon flashing or needing to go to recovery and initiating. Over 3/4 have voodoo in them have fun. I've never used tool box but all of the flashing for me is done through recovery.

I'm excited to get this tablet (after ordering an Archos 101 and getting fed up with the delays) and am looking forward to tinkering with some ROMs. I have some experience with Android (rooted Droid X owner) so I have no doubt I can figure it out.
My question is which custom ROM is the best all-arounder (reliability, speed, updatable, features, support, ...)?
I'm sure each has their strengths and weaknesses, but what I'm looking for is maybe some arguments for/against each from experienced users. (And yes I've watched the youtube videos and such but its hard to tell long term satisfaction from a 5 min video) Thanks in advance.
Zeebok1337,
I'm sure people are not thrilled that I always give this answer, but I think you need
to use the stock tablet and get the stock updates for a while.
When you have charged it and turn it on the first time, you will need to find the
Settings icon and check the About tab to see what version you're on. So far people
are getting 3389.
Then set up your wifi Internet access. Within a couple of minutes, you should get
a Notification on the upper right portion of the screen telling you an OTA (over the air)
update is available -- probably 3588. If so go through the routine and D/L and
install it.
That done, you should have a good G-Tablet, but you will not have Market and
some other stuff most of us want. You also will need to go in and set the date/time
and a lot of other little details on the Settings icon.
http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet has a bunch of pages of info on the G-Tablet --
and best of all the "Favorites" tab has links to a lot of the more common D/Ls.
By the time you do this and the do your homework reading here at XDA, you should
begin getting an idea of what the tab can do and where you want to go.
I don't recommend any of the experimental stuff, or perhaps even the gingerbread
stuff until you have your feet on the ground and know what you are doing.
That means basically I think you would be happiest with the TNT Lite or Vegan ROMS.
Both basically do the same thing and speeds are compatable. In the beginning, Vegan
was a little more sophisticated with screen lock, good graphics, etc. But as VS has
improved with updates and Roebeet has added stuff, TNT Lite has become just as
sophisticated. So flip a coin or make your best guess and go from there.
You just need to take time to know what you want and how to do it so you don't
wind up with a semi-brick like all too many folks do...........

Very good info. Does any of these Roms have sync with Google calendar and Contacts ?? And if so which Rom does that ?

I can't speak for them all, but TNT Lite does. It replaces most of the Viewsonic apps with stock Google apps (The browser and the music apps being the exception). Most likely most of them do, however - just read up on their posts to see what each offers.
Thank you. I really want to leave the stock rom and if there was a way to add Google calendar and contacts sync ( like there is with Gmail with the enhancment) I would keep it but I really need my contacts and calendar. Again Thanks.
Corwins CM7 FTW.
I recommend installing a keyboard with key height adjustment like thumb keyboard, disabling the capacitive buttons with button remapper and using button savior for soft buttons.
Also, the case crown kindle dx case from amazon is a great fit and looks great.
I am in the same boat. GTablet is charging right now. I have an Archos 101 and decided to get a GTablet for playing with. I have an EVO phone but I have never rooted anything so far. I have a computer background so I can probably work it out. Also have a little help from my friends.
Woot G Tablet on the bench
First off I would like to thank Butchconner for the advice I have seen on this forum on getting started with a new G Tablet. "Leave it stock for awhile"
Mine is on the work bench right now charging. It was one of the Woot deals. I am currently using an Archos 101 I got just before Xmas and it works great with no rooting or custom ROMS. I managed to get the wife to use it to read some books from the Kindle store. Look up technophobic and my wifes picture will be there.
I got the Viewsonic because of the Woot deal (Damn that big shinny button).
I'm thinking of leaving the G Tablet stock for the wife right now but she has gotten used to the standard Android interface on her EVO phone. In fact she has gotten pretty good at using the phone.
I understand that the stock user interface for the Viewsonic is very different than what would be seen on the Android or the EVO. Right now I'd just like to get the wife using it to read books and move on to other things later.
Most of the posts regarding the rooting and updating of the ROM's seem a little excessive to me right now. What I am afraid of is the Viewsonic with the stock interface may be too foreign for my wife. Any comments from the forum users?
Thanks again.
The 3588 build (which should arrive as an OTA Update) has a more generic launcher built in. Easy to switch to it if your wife prefers the standard Android interface. No need to load a custom ROM unless you choose to.
what I did with my woot-g
charged it all the way up
started it up
added to my wi-fi
ran the update (it'll ask you to)
rooted
installed clockwork recovery, did a backup, reboot
copied backup to sdcard2
recovery, repartitioned (2048/0), factory reset, reboot
recovery, backup again, reboot
copy new backup to sdcard2, copy old backup back to sdcard
recovery, restore old backup, reboot
played a while then installed TNT lite.
probably missed a few steps but overall this made backups as soon as I could while moving forward. There is no comparison between the stock rom and TNTlite, am looking forward to trying vegan5.1.1
Yeah I jumped 20 feet forward and installed VEGAN Gingerbread even before it was fully charged. played with it a little, then read some more and installed VEGAN 5.0
loving it and haven't even scratched the surface yet.
I charged it, then when it was fully charged, i installed CWM, then VEGAN.
I never did a OTA update before installing CWM and VEGAN.
Does that mean that I messed something up or will lose some functionality?
ZB
I got mine yesterday (FL)
and as this is my 3rd tablet (wife has an augen and I have a ZT180) I have to say that the ROM that is pre loaded is MUCH better than you have heard.
Now it may not be lightening fast, but what will you be comparing it to?
No Market, but I have about 9 DVD's full of APK's that I will NEVER get through.
That being said I DID the TNTLITE update, but then again I cant even ESTIMATE the number of FW flashes I have done since I got the Augen in August (which BTW is also a pretty decent tablet)
but I have to say, there is a RUMOR around the net that ONE of the more recent updates from viewsonic will NOT allow a 3rd party flash, but like I said I did 1 over the air update to 3588 and then went TNTlite
but I also have a lot of experience doing them, BUT I will say hands down this is one of the best tablets I have used (even at the retail price)

No....Vegan should have entirely replaced the original firmware so it made no difference whether you updated or not.
I've only really used Cyanogenmod on my HTC Incredible. On my tablet, thus far, I've tried vanilla, Cyanogen, and Vegan. I think I've found Vegan to be my ROM of choice.
TNT Lite
I just flashed the newest edition of TNT lite (4.4.0) and I was blown away by how easy it was. I would really recommend it. Very easy to use for anyone who is not a pro at this kinda stuff.
Woot Deal
Hey guys just got the tab off woot. Charged it then. Loaded clockwork then cleared cache data then rebooted. Then added tnt 4.2 it worked for about 6 hours then of course when I tried to turn it on it keeps rebooting. What should I do? Is it a good idea to take the tnt off? Or can I do that? I'm just pretty upset right now. Can anyone help me out please?
To fix the boot loop you will need to repartition the card and then reinstall the ROM. Boot into clockwork mod then select repartion and set 1st selection to 2048 and second to 0. This will wipe your tab tho. You will then have to reinstall the ROM.
Thanks
You saved my life man. For some reason the stock rom has been erased for the tab also. Does anyone have the stock rom?

Stock ROMs found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842000
ok, so took home a galaxy tab for 2 whole nights, and what a nightmare with kies and just trying to mod it! Have my evo, cyanogen, etc. and now got my new gtab.
So, I read the nice welcome post with the 4 top mod's (2 are now dead!) and wondering some basic's like;
1. Is that thread the vegan and cyan the 2 top mods? I installed the newest 5.1 on vegan and it's still 2.2 I thought it was 2.3 so I may look to cyan.
2. The cyan shows nightly builds from the link, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919958) shows it as experimental, I am not sure if there is a stable one.
3. It would seem it's the same as the phone, now that it's rooted, I can make a full backup (does ROM manager work?) and then re-flash, if things fail just restore?
4. Does the vegan rom get used on phones? Reason is the home launcher still had a phone icon, this is a wifi tablet. I do have a google voice # and maybe can use that? On the same note, does any wifi video chat app (skype, gtalk) work yet?
I know the above's are pretty basic, this was more a "Hi" welcome message as I do love forums and hope to soon ask less answer more!
Thanks for all reads/replies.
If you are planning to change ROMS more than once or twice, get familiar with NVFlash and ClockWorkMod (CWM) because you will be using them a lot! They are both rock-solid if you follow directions.
I never went with Cyanogen so I cannot help you there. But VEGAn did fine for me for quite a while. VEGAn (gojimi is dev) does have a 2.3 gingerbread version in addition to the FroYo one, just keep reading the ROM section, there is a large thread.
Also, you will want to visit slatedroid (slatedroid.com) since that is the home of the Notion Ink Adam-derived Bottle of Smoke ROM. The first usable Honeycomb port for the GTab and I am a big convert. Alpha version 2.4 is my daily driver, although I try out all new builds, then revert to 2.4 when I have decided against the new one. Since they switched from the Acer image to the Asus one, I have had no love. Hoping they either go back to the Acer image or get some kind of radical change in the newer one.
Anyway, good luck and have fun. The folks in this and other forums are pretty helpful if you do a little searching first so you know what questions to ask.
one other thing to remember is that if you switch to a Ginger or Honeycomb ROM you lose hardware acceleration. Most people can get by by using Mobo player in software decoding mode to play movies, but if it matters to you, it may be something to think about.
Anyone had any luck getting this installed on their G tablet? i saw some posts for an EEE Transformer installation, but so far no luck. I am currently running CM 7.0.3 if that makes any difference.

Buy it directly from the gameloft site and choose the samsung i9000 version. I can't guarantee it'll work on that rom but it does work perfectly on brilliant corners and mountain laurel roms.

Ok bought it again and downloaded the Samsung GT-i9000 Galaxy S version. it installed fine and the colors are right but the boxes and map is just black. It runs too slow to be playable though. I'll load up brilliant corners tomorrow and see if it is better.
thanks
The latest version runs just fine for me on mountain laurel. It should be the same for you if you don't put a different kernel in. Enjoy it, its great on this tablet.
I have it running on Vegan-Tab 7.1 GE. I had to change the build.prop to Optimus 2X settings first. Once the additional files were downloaded and the game came up the first time, I was able to change the build.prop back to the original and the game works just fine. Anytime they put out an update, I have to change back to the Optimus build.prop whlie it checks settings and files, but can switch back after that.
I rooted and installed Vegan-Tab Ginger 7.1 well over a year ago and then my g tablet pretty much collected dust. My son is asking for a tablet for 4 basics things: to watch You Tube, Access Net, Play Android Games, watch Netflix. Right now the video lags or is just a black screen when trying to watch through the You Tube app and when we go through a browser, it tells us we need updated flash player. I'm so far removed from when I started with the tablet that I have no idea where to begin.
I don't know what other information you need to offer any suggestions.... When I originally rooted, I was on version 1.1 -3588 (that doesn't even make sense to me anymore!)
And, you can recommend something to meet my needs, what steps to I take to get it on the tablet? I'm happy to follow links -- I just don't know where to begin. (Do I wipe it clean? How? Do I partition it? How? Then add new ROM? How? LOL)
I have to believe I can salvage this tablet for his needs rather than buying a new, cheap tablet for him.
Thank you .... thank you!!!

I really appreciate the help!
You may have to follow the directions to move over to 1.2 I held off for the longest time but am glad I did it now. A lot of the compatible ROM's look really good and the dev's have done an awesome job keeping everything updated but I want all of the hardware to work on my GTab. Thanks -- I found a thread yesterday to walk me through upgrading to 1.2. Gonna save that for another weekend but feeling like there is a light at the end of the tunnel
I tried 2 versions of Jelly Bean last week and now back to vegan tab gingerbread. I found both versions of JB to be slow, afterall they are still beta versions. Went back to vegan tab and it runs great, even seams to run better this time. Everything works including youtube, had problems before because I updated youtube. Leave the version that comes with vegan. Just my opinion.
