[Q] Problem with Navigation i777 Cognition X2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I apologize beforehand for my noobiness. I wanted to post my question on the development forum but I wasn't allowed to because I'm completely new to xda. I tried to search the Cognition forum but I came up empty. I took a few hours to try to find the answer myself but to no avail.
I successfully rooted and installed Cognition X2 and modified it so that messages don't appear in the call log. When I use Navigation, it starts out fine, but after a few minutes, it starts saying, "XML version 1.0, [blah blah] h t t p:// [blah blah]," repeating itself for several minutes. Then it'll be back to normal for a few minutes before it starts spewing that whatever-it-is. I'm sorry I cant recall all of what it says but please don't hold it against me as I am driving when it happens.
Is there a not-too-complicated fix for this? Thanks!
edit: I should add that this doesn't happen when I just test it at home, i.e., I'm not actually moving or progressing through the turn-by-turn

I'm new to android as well, maybe wiping everything and reinstalling would help?

Are you using the Samsung speech engine? I have read that switching to pico or another 3rd party engine like svox fixes this problem... I use svox and have not run into this issue...

thanks but I'd like to avoid a drastic (and annoying) move like that which may or may not work unless I have to.

I'm pretty sure I've been using the preloaded Tico engine. Can't check right now because I don't have the phone around. If not, I'll try the switch.

There are two speech engines preloaded out of the box. Samsung and Pico. If I remember correctly, Samsung was the default when I first booted up... Give pico or Svox a shot and let us know how it goes..

+1. Try Svox. Its worked the best for me, personally.

Just tried it out and it seems to have gotten rid of the problem. Thanks. But damn, Pico sounds terrible! Guess I'll look into Svox. I wonder why I didn't see any threads about this when I searched. I was assuming it was an issue with the custom rom so I was probably being too specific with my search.
Also, forgive me for being lazy, but how do I do that signature thing that lists the devices I've used?

Yea, Pico sucks as far as the voice goes. Stephen Hawking sounds like Pavarotti compared to it...LOL. Avocados has some cheap voices that sound more natural...

I don't see what's so weird about it. different search engines turn up different results, even once you ignore the paid results...

funny. I was unaware of the difference.
wonder why my stick figure comics page comes up from bing sometimes?
low stats and I never submitted it anywhere but google and Yahoo.
If you can get over the fact that it comes from Microsoft, the Bing app for Android is actually a pretty good app.
Here's a review of it: http://www.androidcentral.com/bings-android-app-redesigned-brings-bit-metro-it
I use the maps piece of it as I find the traffic overlays are more accurate than Google maps traffic.
The issue from the other thread (which unfortunately escalated into a shouting match) is that the latest version of the Bing app has something going on whereby the market thinks it is not compatible with 2.3 roms (I've tried both IHO and asop) and you cannot download bing if you are running one of these roms. If, however, you download Bing using a 2.2 rom and then restore it to a 2.3 using Titanium or another backup program, the program runs fine.
I don't have many more details than this. If you want to help debug and solve this probem, please post! If you are not interested, please let us work on this without snide comments about "why would you want to use bing?"
And please, do not post in the IHO thread. All Bing discussion should remain here.
Only bing I care about are cherries and Crosby.

Afraid i'm little help.
I rarely to never use the market... haven't flashed gapps in over a month (never yet on iho)
I always search out app downloads on the interweb instead of using market.
if you try 4shared.com you might be able to get a current version of the bing app.

Yahoo uses Bing's search results. If you submitted to Yahoo, it's also on Bing.
While it doesn't show up in the google market it does in fact show up in the Amazon app store. This seems to be either an m$ issue or a market issue. Not sure why everybody is so passionate about this as there appear to be multiple ways to install it all legit like.
Unfortunately, the version in the amazon app store is very old (version 1.02.530.20110404 which is from April.) The latest version in regular Android market is 2.0.546.20010811, released August 15)

As pointed out amazons app store as amazing as it is. It is lacking in updated apps. Partly because the approval process is a pain in the ass and partly because some devs stop messing with amazon because of the trouble to get updated apps pushed.
Another thing amazon app store doesnt check your phone to see if you can install the app all the time. Only if the dev has specifically done so upon uploading. I can download apps that will not work on my optimus from amazon and android market has it hidden from me.
There's noway that someone could just post the apk?
So i'm running IHO id have to flash like bumblebee or something? download bing, backup and then reflash iho??
Or just get it from Amazon
Sent from my LG-VM670 using xda premium
Ok but the one on amazon is an old version.
To me, the issue is not so much having someone post a copy of the apk (which is really a band-aid fix.) Rather, I'l like to harness the collective brain of this community to determine a root cause and see if we can find a fix or patch.
For example, is the issue caused by the market seeing O/S 2.3 and thinking it's not compatible?
Or, is it caused by the carrier ID code? (So, for example, can we use Market Enabler https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.racic.android.marketenabler&hl=en to work around the problem?)
What's wrong with Bing? its not like anyone uses it >.>
so i tried market enabler and i still wasn't able to see the bing app on the market. But i think that market enabler does not work with the latest version of the market. is anyone here on a 2.2 device? try to download bing please!

Google music (solved)

I've switched Roms a few times, so now when I try to play my google music it tells me 8 devices have been connected using my email. And it tell me to deactivated one. I'm the only one who uses it and it was working fine til this last flash. Any ideas how to fix that?

interesting. i hadn't heard of this issue before but a quick google search lead me to this thread which has a seemingly logical solution/directions: Music Beta by Google: A Must Read For All Root Users!. i haven't tested it personally but it seems very feasible.
to summarize the answer from the post linked above:
Just log into the desktop version of Music Beta by clicking here, go into settings, and then you'll see a place to manage your devices. Just remove the multiple device entries from the list, and then... presto!

i'll have to check my own account for this as i would imagine any android user who wipes their /data often when switching ROMs might run into this issue.
hope the solution I linked to helps!

Thank the OP in the above link if it works for you!
Got it up and working on my phone. I'm running Shostack2 3.1.1
Many similar threads on XDA , NOT COOL !1!
I can see multiple similar threads on half-baked Google now from JB which is still quite buggy... atleast one in all smartphone's theme section ...
You should mention whats working and whats not before directing someone to this link ... is not very usable as of now.

Exactly, I've had this for a day or so, and voice search isn't working. But they're aware of that issue, and attempting to fix it. OP should mention that voice doesn't work.

Voice-to-text will not work without kernel support or a hack forcing the app to use the existing Google Speech-to-text implementation. Either direction will take an obscene amount of time, i'd imagine. Don't wait up...
Why is this sinking down the app list?! People need to see this!

After using for several days, one issue I've noticed (besides voice search not working), is that the "cards" do not automagically "appear" on my phone. Rather, to view any card, I have to manually open the app. Once there I see a relevant card, such as the weather, or the length of my commute to work when the phone figures it's time for me to go to work. But my understanding is that Google Now, working properly, is supposed to make these cards "pop up" on your phone, rather than you having to manually open the app.
tks,trying...

Yes. Search for mikeyxda07. I believe that's the file. One of the xda devs (mike) has one up and running. Also, I think Shostock has it in his ROM. Why not just switch to JB and install it with one of the various Aroma gapps installers? Works well.

[Q] Google Now not working

Hey there guys, my google now is not functioning at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the updates, changing roms, using a vpn server etc. Nothing I've tried has worked so far and I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions
Did it ever work with this phone? Which ROMs have you tried? Is it installed from Gapps or the Play store?

Are u using a language that is supported by Google Now? As far as i know, they are deutsch, english, espanol, français, italiano, nederlands, portugues, russian and some far east stuff. You can change its language to these ones from settings.
Still isn't working
Hey guys thanks for the responses. I've reflashed gapps and changed roms a couple times and it still doesn't ask me if I want to use google now or show any cards. I'm starting to believe it may be an issue with my location as I'm located in the Caribbean and some Google services don't work here .

'google now is not functioning' doesnt makes sense to me..it would be better if you explain your problem in detail like
what error are you facing!
any force close or some thing!
are you able to open google now atleast for a sec!
which version! (leaked kitkat one or normal one) etc
you see that would make others figure out where problem is and provide Screenshot if possible.
Ok guys first off thanks for being patient. I'm still a bit of a newbie. My problem is that I cannot use Google now at all. I didn't get the option to select if "I'm in" when I first started google search. My search doesn't display any cards or such info and I don't have the option to turn google now off either. I have my language set to English(US). I'm currently using the unofficial CM11 KitKat ROM. It stop working while I was using CrDroid build 22 which is a 4.3 jellybean ROM.

Google search and launcher you are using, are linked with each other. You cannot turn off GSearch and use that launcher together.
Generally cards doesnt show up when you are not signed in with a google account.
Are you logged in through a google account? If yes, can you share a screenshot of what happens when you press mic button and when you type something to search!
Ok so here's what happens when I touch the mic and type what I'm searching for respectively. I also added a screenshot of my location settings.

So the thing is that google now doesn't know where you are, am i right? Which aspect of google now do you want to work? For example; When you set a meeting from google calendar and tell google now: "What is my next meeting?" does it work or not? Can you try that and get back please.
I would really like if the cards would show some info. That isn't happening. I've added screenshots of my general use google search including a scheduled event.

How To Enable Ok Google from Anywhere on your HTC One M8

OK...so if you are interested. Here are the steps you need to do to enable the "OK Google" voice command to be used from any screen on your HTC One M8
1) First, from your Google Now homescreen, simply say “OK Google” to bring up the voice search window
2) Next Say say “OK Google Everywhere”. Google will display a search results page, simply click on a link (any link) ...this unlocks the settings you’ll need to adjust in the next section.
3) Next, go to Settings, Language and Keyboard, then select Voice Search.
4) Select “OK Google” detection, and check the boxes next to where you want to be able to search from the Google Search App from (any screen and even from the the lock screen).
5) Google will have you run through a quick training to teach it how you say “OK Google”
Thats it.I am still testing the effect on the battery but it doesn't seem too bad. Having the ability to use "ok Google" from the lock screen is a big time saver.
Enjoy!
Haven't noticed any significant battery driain. Has anyone else?
been using this for about a week now, seems to have no big affect on my battery..I love that saying ok google works even when the phone is off and charging

The two things you might check are that youre running at least Android version 4.4.2 (unfortunately this doesn't work on older versions of Android)....and second that you've updated your Googke search to version 3.5.14.
You shouldn't have any problems on rooted devices. I'm running a rooted stock rom with S-off and it works just fine.
This problem is killing me! I have a Nexus 7, 10 and a M8. OK Google anywhere is working on the 10, used to work on the 7 then inexplicably stopped and has never worked on the M8. I've tried everything, reflashed the ROM(s) cleared Google search, uninstalled it. Same with play services. It's really frustrating!
Everything's up to date. Once the trainer appeared when I enabled audio history but then the app crashed and it's never happened again. Totally stumped!
