Really annoyed about this... Showing photo's of a product they were going to release has meant I have kept my Transformer. If they had said back then "we are not releasing a dock" I would have sold it and bought another tablet.
Shocking customer service from ASUS here.
That's what I thought, they wouldn't release it. If they really had the idea of releasing that dock, they would have done it when they launched the tablet. Didn't make sense launching it more than a year after.
Too bad, I too wanted one.
Maybe somebody can do something with the mini stand from targus. With a bit of dremel work and some imagination, it may be posible to integrate the original charger into it.

I was also disappointed that the stand did not come out. I did find this Targus Adjustable Stand for Tablets at a local TJ Maxx. You run the cable through the bottom of the slot and there is a cut out on the bottom side for the cord to sit in and run out the back. It is a little loose but does the job.

Yes, I saw that, but I was hoping that TJ Maxx had it for a bargain price, like they usually do.
I wound up getting it from Amazon, because of the free shipping
($25.00+, but I can always find something else to buy...)
As shocked as I am that Asus (with a normally above-average level of customer service) is leaving us Transformer owners out in the cold -- I'm doubly surprised that one of the countless low-cost-high-return Chinese manufacturers haven't come up with any knock-off add-ons for the Transformer yet. I suspect they will - but who knows when. I'll say this - Asus's treatment of those of us that bought their $500-$600 gadget has left a *very* sour taste in my mouth. It'll be Samsung from here on out for me.

I got it for $7.99.
Just stumbled on this thread, and I guess it's the final confirmation that Asus has no intention of ever shipping this stand, despite listing it for purchase in the US and Europe for some time. (Part number 90-XB2UOKST00010, UPC 884840036500).
Shame of it was, US-market pricing was VERY reasonable -- on the order of US$25-30. I'd have happily picked up several of these, at that price.
Have to wonder why Asus abandoned this, after they put the money into designing and presumably tooling up for it. (I highly doubt those seen photographed online were entirely handmade -- likely hand-assembled, but they must've made molds etc. at the very least. I know a rendering when I see one, and some of the high-res pics of this dock were definitely not renderings.)

To be honest, I'm not sure. The price did drop a couple of months ago to $299, and they sold like crazy. I'm not sure what HTC's plans are with it, but I've heard that BB stores may show 1 in stock, but that may be the floor model. I don't know if HTC really knows what to do with it, but there has been Honeycomb leaks and such, so time will tell if they officially release HC for this device.
The plot thickens.....I called 3 Best Buy stores and got 23 different answers. Yes I'm being sarcastic. One store though said "it's discontinued because of poor sales". I called Corporate and they said it has been pulled for the "sale" tomorrow. Whatever that means.

I would think if HTC was going to dump it, the recent update would of never happened. Best Buy is going to ruin my Christmas. So what if I wasn't good this year? My money is good!

I'm not surprised, they don't know. There were poor sales because the price was over $500 for it, so since other tabs were around $299, that's a no brainer. I'm not sure what they mean by pulled for the sale either...? I would think that if they had stock, the thing would sell great, but who knows? It sounds like Best Buy doesn't know either.

Jury is out on that, there's been 3 leaks, so there's something going on there...
I was worried that the $299 price drop was an indication that BB and HTC were clearing stock as they discontinued the device. Looks like this may be the case, and the new price was too good to be true. The fact that HTC's 10.1" tablet is also waaay overpriced suggests that the price drop wasn't an acknowledgment that HTC's pricing structure is unrealistic. And all this leads me to believe that HTC will probably end up having to exit the tablet market altogether. Oh, well, there's always ASUS and Samsung.

The following Forbes article speculates that Black Friday will being tablet market dominance by Apple, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble, spelling "doomsday" for all other tablet manufacturers.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/terokuittinen/2011/11/22/black-friday-tablet-doomsday-for-many-phone-vendors/
Maybe a bit extreme, although I see the point that Amazon is going to shake up the tablet landscape in the coming months. I expect at least Samsung to hang tough for some time. And HTC seems to be still in the fight, at least for the short term, with a 10.1" quad core tablet in the works:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-57326923-251/quad-core-htc-quattro-tablet-details-leaked/
The Quattro may help explain the demise of the Flyer. Even though its not the same 7" form factor (which I really like), it would seem unwise for HTC to keep 3 tablets in the lineup, if none are selling too well. And with the Flyer already 6 months old, its not surprising to see it drop from the lineup.
I'm not buying the Forbes article's take on tablets as a whole, but I suspect it's on target as far as HTC goes. HTC made a mistake in pricing the Flyer at $500. It was also a mistake not to have a 10" tablet to market at the sane time. Had HTC priced the Flyer at $400 and had a 10" tablet out at $500 they might have had a shot.
But I do think that the Forbes article's post-mortem on Samsung is way premature. The Nook Tablet and the Fire are going to shake up the market this Christmas, but consumers are not going to settle for tablets with such limited functionality that are tied so closely to one vendor's ecosystem.
I bought all of the HTC Flyers. That's why there's none left..Muhaahahahahaaa
I was in Best Buy yesterday and asked about the flyer and was told that it is being cleared out because a new HTC was being released next month, but I really do not believe that, as for the Flyer I know of a place that has over 786 of them to sell, it is a good place to buy from ,I have purchased from them many times because they are here in my town and I can go to their outlet, http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4less/HTCFLYERP512
The term open box means that they open up the boxes and check out the contents to make sure they are in good shape and working order, that way they can sell it at a reduced price. Plus you can get a extended warranty from them also, believe me they have great stuff and well worth the price which is much better than Best Buy.

I live in GA and got one at the beginning of the month at a BestBuy Mobile shop at the mall.
I just don't understand if they're supposedly clearing them out, why would they raise the cost of the Scribe pen back to $79.99?
Well I think its a safe bet that HTC is not manufacturing any more Flyers. The only question is how much stock is still floating around

Ok but why the update on 11/14? To support the existing Flyers I suppose?
Yeah, support.
It's cheaper to do a production run of a million or 2 than to start and stop assembly lines. So HTC probably produced all they wanted in May - June and are just selling what remains. That's typical.
My Best Buy still has a display model set up. Maybe they finally have the HC update done so they pulled remaining stock, and are repacking them with HC ROMs so no one gets one without it? I know it is probably a long shot but you never know.

Just received an email from memory express who I have my preorder with.
You’re receiving this email because you’ve expressed interest in the Asus Transformer Prime, Asus next-generation quad core high performance tablet. We just received word this morning directly from Asus Vice President for North America Sales and Distribution that the production on the Transformer Prime has been temporarily delayed. Asus focus has always been on high quality and with the Transformer Prime being their flagship tablet product they’re spending some additional time and resources to ensure that the Transformer Prime reflects that at launch. We have also been informed that the gold version will not be available in Canada at launch.
At this current moment we don’t have a solid ETA on when pre-order stock will be arriving, as Asus updates us I will forward the information your way.

Wonder if there really is some sort of delay/problem or they just decided to screw over memory express and using that as an excuse?
UPDATE:
emailed memory express for clarification on the delay.
Originally we were supposed to get them on the 6th of December. According to Asus they are shipping on the 15th which means in theory we should have them on or after Christmas day.

Wow. I would really be upset if that was the case.. I got everything set up (skin, microsd card with movies and music, screen protector and notebook case) its hard enough waiting until just the 19th for this device through gamestop online preorder..

Actually, if this is true, then I'm tempted to cancel my pre-orders, period. I certainly don't want a unit that has manufacturing/design issues, which would explain the delay.
Could the few that ship have been hand-picked to not have the problem, or are they initial units that simply slipped through the cracks?
i would think news like that would spread like wildfire on the internet. I've seen nothing of the sort. Ever since my pre order I watch the web constantly for prime news!

I've been surprised that there's no reporting whatsoever on all of the confusion. I think maybe the original Amazon pre-order cancellation was reported on a few sites, but since then, nothing. I mean, this whole story is newsworthy (at least as far as the sensationalist tech media goes)...
I GOT AN EMAIL TOO! From NCIX (Canada)! I asked if I was on the first shipment with my pre-order and this is what they sent me:
Yes your should be, but we got more bad news yesterday. Apparently the wifi signal was very weak from these units so they have delayed this even further. We will be mass emailing everyone shortly with a temporary solution for the holiday season.
Best Regards,

SOOOOO my guess is that there are wifi issues with the first batch... They might not send them out, they might. By the sound of this email it seems like they MIGHT ship the bad units out anyways and give us a "temporary" fix, OR by temporary fix they mean "we'll delay it and give you something so you don't cancel over the holiday season and buy an iPad 2 instead".
I'm guessing they're really delaying the devices past Christmas. Sucks...

Were the cancellation/notice of "wifi issues" from official launch partners? (Sorry, I don't know who the Canadian launch partners are)
If not, then I'd expect this is the justification they were given for there not being stock for non-official launch partners and what they're passing on.
The wifi thing, though, does make sense. I remember at least one review (the link evades me) where the guy was having serious wifi issues, and then got a replacement tablet which didn't have them.
So my guess is there's some sort of production issue seen on SOME tablets, and they're catching it in QC and sending them back, meaning the stock they have to ship for launch is cut way down (which would also jive with the Amazon excuse for their cancellations).
...then again they may be shipping them all and letting the early adopters do the QC, like what I seem to remember hearing with the original transformer. But that seems a bit unlikely given the excuses/stock underruns that have been going around.
Edit: Ahh, it was the Anandtech review -- http://www.anandtech.com/show/5178/an-update-on-transformer-prime-battery-life-wifi-issues
yes both NCIX and memory express were listed by asus as places to preorder the prime
I'll let you guys know what's up when they send out the mass-email. I'd be interested in knowing what kind of release date/window they give me with this whole delay thing. Oh and PRAYING for a free dock or something.

Interesting how this is happening with the preorders in Canada but the device has been selling in Taiwan (Wasn't the release date 1 of December there, I think a few people have already got their hands on the Prime in Taiwan).
I would have expected the production issues to be present everywhere, including on the Taiwanese Primes.
Well to be honest I don't think we'd hear too much about problems with this device in Taiwan... For all we know there's a recall going on right now. Where would we even get that info?
I don't think this effects the u.s. Batch.. Seems to inky originate from Canadian preorders.

agree, seems that they just like to preorder and talk about new products. And after some weeks they start finding bad things and cancel there orders and wait for the next new super mega gadget that they can hype and preorder and then cancel.
That sort of people never buy anything, they just like to talk and show the world how smart and cool they are. They are just BIG trolls sitting in there rooms with dreams and fantasy and believe all that written on the Internet.
Asus Prime will be the best tablet for months.
First in the summer other manufacturers will have there products for sale not any sooner.
Phone vs Tablet - Late Binding
Here's my stance.
My OG Droid is on it's last legs (but still quite usable with CM7 on it). I have a few more months even. But I have my eye on the Galaxy Nexus, being released Dec 15 (maybe).
I had an Acer 10 tab, which I really liked, but returned to Costco because of microphone problems and seeming lack of Acer commitment to tablet space. So I decided to wait instead for TP. Currently have one on order from BB, release 12/18.
So my current scenario is to receive replacement tablet week of Dec 19-23, and hold off on phone for a couple of months.
But if the wifi problem with TP are serious, or BB surprises me with a delay, or there is a REALLY good deal on Galaxy Nexus, then I'll cancel TP order and do the phone first, tablet later.
I'll make the decision with more data in about a week. The trick now is not to fall in love with any scenario.
The people who cancel I bet will buy it when its in store.
its a daycare for kids here on this forum. Keeps em outta trouble.

This is probably realistic. I'm guessing from leaks there are at least two quad-core tablets well in to development that will be announced on January 10 at CES. To see them on the market 30 to 45 days later is plausible. Other than the Teg3 and dock there's nothing unusual about the Prime. Other manufacturers, most with more R&D resources, haven't been eating bon bons since Nvidia announced Teg3 and Asus starting making noise about wanting to be first to market with a quad-core tablet.
The dock is what interests me about the Prime, though: I'm interested in it because I think a device which can be closely integrated with a keyboard will be much more useful than a tablet alone. So I'm not changing my allegiance right now. If I didn't buy a Prime, I'd probably buy no tablet unless anyone else comes out with something equivalent.

This works incredibly well and doubles as a protective case. You can also lay the keyboard flat and the case doubles as a stand. The Asus keyboard adds additional battery life but other then that it accomplishes the same function. It's very pricey though.

By bad news, I'm assuming (after reading the other threads) the OP meant:
The recent revelations that some review units to big review sites had WiFi strength issues (weak wifi connections). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385391
While this is a confirmed issue in some test units, it has also been confirmed that other test units to other big review sites are NOT suffering this issue. The bad news is that there is a possibility the Prime shipment (OR availability) may be delayed until after the much "confirmed" date of the 19th so that Asus can fix this wifi issue. If this wifi issue is NOT in the hardware BUT in the software (is this related? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384034 ), then there is the strong possibility that there may be nothing to worry about and that the 19th is the confirmed date (and thus no bad news).
A major Canadian retailer/seller (NCIX) has emailed buyers telling them that a hardware/related issue is prompting Asus to delay ALL shipments of the Prime until the issue is solved http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384870
A lot of people are viewing this as bad news, while others think this is simply NCIX giving a fake or typical marketing answer to make sure the buyers do not run off to the competition.
It seems majority (or all?) such news of cancellations due to hardware issue OR "confirmed" shipment delays have been based on those NCIX emails. No one knows for sure if what NCIX is saying is true, if it's something related only to NCIX shipments, or if the confusion behind the release dates is indeed because Asus is scrambling to fix the hardware issue WHILE making sure the retailers (at least BestBuy, Newegg, Gamestop, Amazon, etc in the US) do not open their big mouth about any Prime problems like NCIX did.
Check the Gamestop thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1374761 ): people called yesterday and today, and they're getting more firm answers that the Tablet WILL be released on the 19th. I'm going to call Gamestop right now and find out the date I can pick it up (and will post in the Gamestop thread).
Online stores from my country date it mid January since it became available. No changes so far.
According to some sites the prime has been discontinued.

*Edit*
I have no idea why... can't watch the video, and I still haven't seen where is says it's discontinued... OHHH.... he's talking about the availability to purchase it... Dude, that probably just means they are out of stock!
It also says "or vendor". They're probably not able to get their hands on stock right now
Well, when I went to Best Buy to get my TFP replaced, she said that they couldn't replace it, because the particular model Grey TF201 32GB had been discontinued. Then she did an OMS and was able to send a new one to me. So I don't know. It's possible. But if it is. Asus owes us all New TF700t.
There's talk of this over at transformerforums also, I personally don't think it's true. Although if Asus is getting back the majority of the Primes sold as RMAs it might be their only choice.
My guess is that they'll fulfill their orders and then stop production of it and attempt to address the issues, allow a swap with the new one for those who have already bought it and then gut the old ones and put the the insides into the new casing and maybe sell them for a slightly discounted price.
Obvious this is just a theory, but I would like to see thi happen.
Getting the same thing at a much larger retailer: Newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230219
well damn..
It doesn't make sense for them to skip a whole price point, having the original transformer at $400, the Prime at $500 and the TF700 at $600. I'm betting this will discontinue this particular model, and replace it with the Prime+ or something like that which is just the Prime, but with the back casing from the TF700 to solve the wifi/gps issues.
Returns cost them money
Maybe they just don't want the hastle and expense of all the returns.
my second prime seems ok (just received 2 days ago) but hearing this news, what will it mean to those who keep it? Is it better to return it and wait for the new one or keep it and hope Asus will still support us and continue to update the original prime's software 6 months from now? I only have 1 week left to return....
Ok, I asked them on their wall on Facebook if it really was being discontinued (the official ASUS page on Facebook) and this is what I got in reply:

This should put the rumours to rest, I think.

Pretty much always better to wait for a new anything, if you have an alternative till then.
Asus should support it as far as updates for a while, they are even updating the original. Why wouldn't they?
Wasn't it reported Asus admitted it has a design compromise and removed GPS from the specs on some ASUS sites?
MAybe shipments are delayed as they are removing GPS from the box label?
Or are they going to change the design slightly to allow it to work better, who knows...
From a resale point of view it may drop in value quicker than normal.
Possibly a tweaked current model design,
won't be long till the iPad 3 is out and also the enhanced hi-res Prime.
Then Windows 8 transformer type tablets will hit with a big impact.
But today the Prime is still selling at a premium on eBay .
aww.... is that true and official?

Dude, WIFI being bad before the release was also FALSE RUMORS. Guess what? They weren't.
So with all the new Asus tablets coming out, one could only wonder, When is Asus going to let us RMA our Primes to get a new back plate with the plastic top so the GPS and Wifi can work as it should? Any thoughts? I like the one on the new Infinity tablet. It still has the cool swirly metal look.

They won't be doing that for the TF201.

How do you know that info. Do you work for Asus or have some kind of inside knowledge?

100% chance they're not replacing the backplate. The cost does not outweigh the PR. Been there done that...
You've got way less than 1% of owners for the total shipped units requesting such a fix.
The impact of perhaps making some subset of this 1% unhappy does not out-weigh the cost of replacement.

Sorry I didn't know that new thread posting isn't allowed on xda????
Anyway, I was just wondering if Asus might want to do right by all the Prime owners since they have stated that the all metal plate is a problem with gps and wifi and the two new devices that where just announced have all plastic or a plastic strip/metal back plates.
Could it really be that expensive to replace it?

Personally, I think its more than 1%. So people may have a Prime that don't post on this website, but it seems that atleast 75% of the people with Primes that do post on this website have problems with either GPS or Wifi as a result of the all metal backplate.

Have you looked at the tear down videos of the prime? Some components are actually part of and attached to what you call the "backplate". What would the pogo plugs attach to with a window?
Shipping costs?
The fact that less than 1% have the problem OR are dissatisfied?
I think it would be a nice gesture from ASUS. It would certainly make you people who just love to slam ASUS think twice... It would also change the minds of people who might not buy ASUS again due to the blunders. Never underestimate the power of goodwill.

Overall, I enjoy my Prime. However, I can say with 100% certainty that I will never be buying another Asus product ever again. The padfone and tablet they just announced sound awesome, but I didn't even bother looking at pictures and videos of them because they're from Asus, and I am done with this company.
A gesture of goodwill would certainly change my outlook, but as has already been said, it's just not economically viable for Asus. I hope I'm not the only customer they lose. I've never been so disappointed in a company.
The idea that this would be an easy and inexpensive fix for ASUS to implement presumes that there are no structural or other changes necessary to support a two-piece backplate. We have no idea what the inside of the TF700 looks like, nor how much retrofitting ASUS would need to do.
I don't think it's very likely, unfortunately.
i wonder if some 3rd party company can make one? i would pay for a back plate exchange. If it worked like its suppose to.
wow, haven't seen a thread like this before

Why would you expect something from Asus? Did you or did you not have a opportunity to return the tablet?

Is not a gesture of good will expecting something? In all seriousness, if you are done with them then be done. Stop complaining about Asus. It seems you could of returned it and gotten something else and been happy.

Maybe they'll do it on case by case. We are the minority after all so it may not be that many overall.

So you enjoy the prime but wont buy another product from the company? That seems a bit harsh and dumb. If I had your attitude I wouldn't buy any LG products from now on. Considering how much of a problem the LG Optimus 3D has given me and they wouldn't even admit to the problems everyone is having and won't push out system updates in a timely fashion(Still stuck on froyo).
Honestly if you have problems with the device to a point you wouldn't want to buy anything from that company then don't use their products at all just sell/return it and move on.
