Hey guys,
Can anybody tell me the exact way of rooting Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 JPKG2 (Middle east Version).
You support will be really appreciated.
Thanks...
Your question would surely be pwned by some random guy that would tell you to search the forums, luckily, i'm patient and I want to help.
This method is traditional but in my opinion most reliable.
Follow this guide written by Intratech: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
This is to get the XWKDD insecure kernel from Chainfire: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
Use this SuperOneClick in the instructions, this worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=624175&d=1307984755
Begin following the steps from Quick Root guide, pretty easy especially with the photos and easy to follow steps.

Ok, I've recently gotten my SGS2 and have read a number of threads on rooting (new android user).
I feel like I have some info handy to start rooting the phone but I'm still apprehensive. Can anyone help me here?
I was looking to load a custom ROM, let's say for example: [ROM] Lite'ning Rom v2.1 XXKG1
Will it work with my 2.3.3/XWKF1? Should I start with the CF-Root with Chainfire's method? Can't string it here, as you see there's some confusion up top.
The general start point is to read the details on the rom post you intend to flash .
In your case read the Litening post and all is answered for that rom .Want a different rom read the instructions for that rom .
Nothing to stop you using Chainfires CF root first .

Yes, CF is the man with whose kernel you should start rooting. There is no problem with CF kernels, just flash it and enjoy.
Regards.

Alright, thank you.
Hello. I came here from the Xperia X10 mini forum, because i just got a S2
Thing is i don't know what to do with it. With the SE it was different, I was a SE user my whole life, so I was up to date with how to do things on SE droids (root, flash with flashtool, etc.). But i have 0 experience with samsung.
I have:
PDA: I91000XWKE2
BASEBAND: I9100XXKDJ
KERNEL: 2.6.35.7-i9100xwke2-cl187606 [email protected] #2
It's running droid 2.3.3 and I cant update with KIES because it gives me windows encountered a problem etc etc... the old send dont send but on windows 7 (x64).
So I would like to flash it to a 2.3.5 rom and root it. Can anyone explain how do I do this? I don't know what and where to search because I'm new to samsung.
So far i have downloaded ODIN 1.85 and a found this "GT-I9100_OXA_I9100XXKI3_I9100XXKI3_I9100OXAKI3" file. What do i do with it? (also explain steps plz).
I never had a smartphone in my life before I got my SGS2, and I managed to flash all the ROMs without creating threads with questions that are answered in stickies. But maybe I'm a genius, not anyone can be one.
So, try here for starters.. or just search around.
install this kernel and read all the texts.

You should now be root and have cmw recovery, and you can flash pretty much any rom you want.
Not to familiar with teh sony's but i assume you had clockwock mod recovery?
Odin to flash, cf root to flash as kernel to allow root and get cwm, cwm to flash a custom rom as a quick guide on what to search. Generally reading around will help.

Ty for the reply guys. Really apreciate the help and am reading everything you posted.
But 1 thing: witha ll respect, stop acting like I'm using up your personal space, I opened this thread for a reason, because i dont understand sh!t, and reading wont help unless i start to read the very beginning.
When i was at the Xperia thread, i used a program called Flashtool to flash a new generic rom to my X10 mini pro. It also updated the baseband (and basebands where important when i flashed a custom ROM, you needed to have latest baseband and kernel to flash X,Y,and Z custom roms).
I just want to update to the original samsung 2.3.5 ROM with odin (as kies sucks and wont work) and the rest will be easy. Don't want CWM and root yet, just a plain stock 2.3.5 rom. I just wanted to know if i can flash THAT file (first post, long text) to my phone with ODIN.
Again, thank you very much for the support, and will continue to read everything you guys post here.
It's easy to say search for this and search for that when you know exactly what to search for. In my case, I dont even know where to begin. And i would like to finish this "job" in the next 2 hours, as after that its time to sleep :/

No offence mate but when I moved from an HTC to a Samsung based device I was a newb then to, coming from another phone to different methods to another new method I got to grips with everything just reading around.
To answer your questions, yes you can flash a stock rom using odin, all you need is to check out intratechs thread in original development section, as of now KJ3 is the latest 2.3.5 firmware, download a frankenstein version and read his thread which had a guide on what to put where.

Your original post mentioned you wanted to root it hence I gave you the easiest way of doing so is to flash cf root, searching cf root would have given you that thread plus instructions within that thread.

well i flashed that rom i pasted there and it worked. Was simple once i knew i need to put that in PDA and start it.
Yes i know about CF root and will be my next move. Thank you so much for everythingyou posted (again). And will REread every post again for extra knowledge. Need to forget everything i know about SE and learn new stuff.

Big question as always is why do you want to root the phone and void warranty ??/

If you have a I9100/I9100T, look in settings/about phone & make a note of what you have listed in "baseband". Then go to this thread, find the kernel that matches the details in baseband on your phone.
Then follow the instructions in the thread I gave you a link to. Easy. There are also two other methods you can use to root your phone, Zergrush & SuperOneClick, search the board for details of these.
If you have a I9100G, you should be able to find a kernel to root your phone with in this thread.
If you have one of the other SGS2 variants, I have absolutely no idea.
Edit -JJE far too quick on the draw for me
Just flash CF-Root via Odin ^^
Somebody's trying to get to 10 posts by dragging up dead /buried/resolved threads
Hi,
I had a question about rooting my galaxy s2. I searched a while for a great tutorial on youtube.
I found this amazing site called; galaxys2root.com, with a video called "How to Root Galaxy S2! [NEW][Works on All Galaxy S2 Variants]".
I tried to root my phone, but it doesn't seem to work. The software used in the video is 2.3.3. I thought this might be the problem, since I followed every step carefully.
I was wondering if anyone knew how to root a 2.3.6. A video similar to the one written above would be great, since it is my first time rooting!
Thanks in advance,
Monkeyfntstc

Just use Odin With CF Root Kernel
Again, asking us about a method that isn't on this site is pointless. How would we know ?
If you want to root your phone using a method from here, CFRoot thread. Do not use this method (or any method for that matter) to root your phone until you absolutely thoroughly understand the instructions.
The risk of bricking your phone using any method to root increases exponentially with how poorly you understand it/how little attention you pay to the instructions.
You would also do well to read the stickies.
There are no videos, there are no shortcuts.
thanks Mistahbungle
It looked easy while watching the video.. that is why i was wondering
Also, make absolutely sure you have an I9100/I9100T.
Check in settings/about phone; you'll need to do this anyway to check your current kernel so you can find a matching CFRoot kernel to flash in order to root your phone.
Make sure using the correct ROM and kernel, for G version and non G.
Good Luck friend!
Dear XDA,
I am sorry to bother you, as I am a Noob. But I've watched the video, searched the Wiki and looked in the forums.
It may be that I am stupid, and I am sure it will be pointed out to me in the comments, but I cannot find a guide anywhere on how to root my handset for the latest firmware upgrade 4.0.4, just snippets of information that I cannot bring myself to trust enough to risk bricking my phone.
My deets are:
GT-I1900 on T-Mobile UK
Android 4.0.4.
Baseband: I9100BVLPE
Kernel Version 3.0.15-I9100BVLPH-CL969772
Build num: IMM76D.BVLPH
Does anyone know where to find a good guide to doing this, or have any advice on how to do this?
Best,
Sam
Hey
You just have to flash a rooted kernel for 4.0.4 via Odin, then your phone will be rooted.
Boot the phone into download mode, in odin put the .tar into the pda field and flash it

Just look in the General section for the S2. There are guides for how to root your phone with Odin (or another method but that is the most common as far as I know) by flashing a custom kernel. It may look difficult untill you try it yourself.
Just make sure you follow the steps correctly. And before all this, search for info about the emmc brickbug before you start rooting, just to make sure you minimize the risks when you start the procedure.
Good luck.

I appreciate that you may be confused but we have plenty of topics that very clearly and specifically tell you how to root your device. Your problem is that you haven't read/researched enough and want spoon feeding by creating yet another "how do I root" topic.
If you want to root you just need to reboot into download mode and flash custom kernel like Siyah (.tar) as PDA (make sure re-partition is unticked).
Check these first:
