Question with the Lapdock 100 - Motorola Photon 4G

Anyone have netflix dispaying correctly? Mine is inverted and if I hit the orientation button it only switches it on its side

Mine does the same thing. I found if you take the phone out of the dock and lay it flat it will show correctly.

A friend was happy to show up to apartment and brag BUT, I see no purpose in getting a dumb terminal when I have 2 laptops. Just me. Photon is sweet, but it cannot compete with my laptops.
EDIT: I was not attempting to be negative DWAKE014. This might be for you. My Boy is happy as a pig in...........Maybe the store has one you can play with for 15 minutes or so?

This device (I have one w/ the photon) is meant for a narrow subset of users. If you have a tethering plan you are better off just using a full laptop (or a powerful netbook). However, if you dont and have no desire to pay 30 bucks a month the lapdock is a great way to have a 3G/4G netbook. In fact, the lapdock will cost you less than a years worth of tethering fees would. So in that respect it is a steal.
It is that simple. Incidentally this is why the lapdock is worthless on ATT. They force you to get a tethering plan if you want to use 3g/4g data on it. If you are already paying for a tethering plan you might as well use a real laptop.

No offense taken. I have a 17" that I got when I started college 3 years ago and I can't take the damn thing anywhere easily bc of it's size. I'm loving the look of this bc realistically I just use my laptop for homework and web browsing. I'm just worried about the size, I need to hop down to a sprint store to see if they will give me a new photon anyways. honestly I'm really waiting on the 500, too bad I can't find any info on the thing
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

I have the 100 and the old atrix lapdock I modified. I love them because they are small and allow me to do what I need, surf the web and remote control machines (logmein). I also have a laptop that I use for larger tasks.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium

OK, Im with thehomelessguy, more or less, 100% BUT, I do not get tethering. I had it, done it, but go get your own data plan (Ok, friend of mine had 2 kids at soccer, but) I can do one device if I want to, which would likely be MY laptop.
Next, lets look at our Photon (or any smartphone for that matter?). Years ago when I was in the BB part of my life, I wanted to make things simple. Out with pager in with BB. Then Treo with music. Fast forward, Yes I have 2 laptops, but I wanted something small, compact, did everything, that I could take anywhere. If Im walking downtown and I feel like a movie, Photon. If Im walking down the street and I want to see email, Photon. If im walking down the street and I want to work, Photon!
Yes, I could do this on a laptop, lapdock, tablet, but I dont want to hual all of that around.
Just muy $0.02.

[Q] Incredible becoming extinct due to the thunderbolt?

Now that there is the big news about the incredible HD aka thunderbolt, is htc going to stop making the HTC incredible?
No one can say but HTC or Verizon. However, the Incredible going EOL around the time Thunderbolt goes on sale wouldn't come as too much of a shock.
it may reach the end of its life for "normal" smartphone users but for Android enthusiasts and/or devs I sorta see the Inc as the new Nexus One...the Inc is one of the best if not the best unlocked phones on the market...
good to know, thanks for all of your input. I love the incredible, I just wish there was a way that it could get the new 4g service!!!!
yes they will stop making it... but don't worry cuz the inc is everywhere here at college. I have seen someone with an inc in every single one of my classes. Exactly one other inc user in all my small classes except for two others with the inc in English and more in giant lectures. The inc has 2 more years of ppl actually using it.
Besides I'm predicting a buy a thunderbolt get an incredible free promo in order to empty their inventory. Good news is this would mean more inc users.
Side Story:
I was in Chem and I saw someone in the row in front of me and a couple seats to the right using an incredible with my theme what are the odds??! I was so exited to reach over my friends and tap this guy on the back to tell him that I made that! Strangely he had no clue wtf XDA was which is weird cuz I only posted it on XDA. He wasn't interested in talking at all so I didn't get to ask him where he got it.

I love my DINC.. My wife has one also. but she's not so happy, ( prev BB user ) so my plan is to find her a tour on CL and put her DINC in my dresser as a backup.. lol

Dude that must have been awesome feeling! but what a flake for not being frickin excited that you see him using YOUR hard work.
I'm thinkin once the Thunderbolt comes alive I will use my dads upgrade to get it and use the INC to keep learning Android. I agree the INC is a great learning phone, as was the Eris, but DAMN she was slow.

Since the 4G or LTE whatever VZW promotes it as will only be in limited cities for a long time it won't be worth it to get a Thunderbolt for a while. The DInc is one of the best phones out there so buying a Thunderbolt in a no 4G area is a waste of money.

More screen real estate
Front facing camera
Better cpu
BT upgradeable to 3.0
Sense 2.0
No need for horizontal desktop cradle.
Conversely, the lack of a trackpad can be a compelling reason not to upgrade for many.

I do not think most will see a difference in most of these.
A bigger screen may be a bad thing since it is more uncomfortable in your pocket.
Sense 2.0 sounds good but it will be ported to the DInc probably since XDA has great developers.
A bigger CPU....really don't think the majority of users are going to feel a difference or need the faster CPU.
I am with Gahh Its Lee and probably going to wait. This is not normal for me as I usually buy the newest tech stuff at launch but cell companies need to work on towers and a full 4G network instead of worrying about selling phones that wont even work at top speed on 90% of their towers. They are putting the cart before the horse and I think VZW is taking a page from the ATT and Tmobile playbook by doing this.
I wonder if Verizon will do what they did with the X and give anyone who is upgrade eligible an upgrade early when the phone is released. I know there was that leaked info that said they were eliminating early upgrades altogether, but I wonder...
When this phone launches, with the bionic and 2x or whatever it is, vzw will be adding 4g to 175 more markets.

the usb port is on the side it rests on... what terrible design flaw is that?
You can plug it in them put something under the stand part and just have the phone sit higher

New prime...mine

Just got my prime last night at best buy. I went to counter to ask if they had it and they laughed at me. Then a second later a guy walked up to the counter and said to another employee and said hey look we just got one of the prime things, wanna play with it? And im like uh no actually im buying it. Give it to me now. And I laughed at them and bought it. Haha. It was perfect. Perfect timing. Wow.
What a device! Just rooted this morning easily. I have found that the wifi has been weaker in spots where it is stronger on other devices such as my samsung infuse 4g and my dell laptop. Will try turning off gps as one suggested. Will try when I get home.
But overall....wow. this thing is badass. Feels good to be running pure ICS on a quadcore beast like this. Just hope I don't get no hot pixels. Lol.
Anyway ill be seein y'all around here.

It really is an amazing device. I wouldn't take any other tablet over this.
That being said...with the bugs it has and the less-than-expected performance, I'm not sure if it's really worth the $500 I paid for it. I'm personally thinking about returning it just because I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it. Yes it does have a Tegra 3 and ICS, but those really haven't "flourished" yet in the market and I can't really use either one to it's max potential. The stuff I can do on this tablet is pretty much the same stuff I could do on a Xoom or a Tab (minus the amazing video camera that I use constantly for my youtube videos).
Don't expect the WiFi to just magically work great, but you might be lucky. If it does, feel lucky.
Congratulations !
Congrads on your new baby.
I've got mine last week.
I've updated firmware once already and this morning it wants update again and I pressed postpone for now because I didn't know what it will do to my rooting.
Anyway, have a fun fun fun.......
You think thats bad, the tech manager i had to wait for at staples was convinced his store didnt sell asus tablets after calling first to have them hold the last one. I had to confirm the store phone number and look up their own store item number for him to look in the back and find it. Dont know if he was trying to hold it for himself but it was pretty bad customer service.
The best part is I went in to buy a new asus platinum laptop. Thats all I was gonna buy. Did my research and knew what I wanted without a doubt.
So I end up walking out with a new router a mybook live 2tb and this beast of a tablet. My wife is like uh ... seriously you need help. Haha. So awesome.
Then I showed her the new pink ipad cover I bought for her she's like...oh....ok...thanks....

How are you showing off your gnote?

So, as you are all probably aware of by now, this phone gets people's attention. Anywhere I pull it out strangers come up to me and ask me about it. I tell them it's like a cross between a phone and a tablet and then I show it to them in action. I usually show them the split pane email screen and then a screen grab along with some annotations with the spen.
What functions or apps are you using to show the note's capabilities to strangers with short attention spans?
Careful now, u don't wanna have one of those strangers grab it and run.

I build / repair computers so I get a lot of traffic daily and everyone here knows I like to be an early adopter of everything. I don't make it a point to show it off, but if someone see's me using it and ask about it. I'll pitch it like a salesman would. The screen size and vividness usually grabs peoples attention. As far as apps, It's android, the only novelty is the s-pen. I will let people use it that I know are responsible while they are in the shop.

That was actually one of the reasons I refused to get an iphone - the iphone people running around showing off STUPID apps. I thought they looked like tools.
Lightsabers or whatnot.
If someone approaches me about the Note, though I do want to show how great it is. I want it to do well, and I want to kind of steer people away from all the STUPID Note ads.
The biggest oos and ahhs come from:
1) Playing video - best to use a HD one already on your sd card. (youtube is lower quality)
2) The keyboard - I often hand my phone to people to let them type their contact info. They very often say, 'wow.... this keyboard sure is nice'
I use thumb keyboard 4's 5" layout, max landscape height. Very comfortable.
While I talk about the note I casually do:
3) Games - I like to show puzzle quest 2, since it is very dense graphically with statistical numbers. Casually mention that playing it on a small screen is just painful.
4) Google Maps is always impressive, especially if you demo GPS lock.
5) For 'readers - amazon kindle, minimum size font/minimum margins is very impressive. Tons of text, and very readable.
I never show off the stylus to be honest.
- Frank
Well I showed mine off to a AT&T corporate guy and got a job interview for at&t business sales from it.

Debating on buying

Hey everyone so i'm trying decide what tablet to get, I'd had my eyes set on the galaxy tab 10.1 until while reading reviews had this one pop up. At first upon reading the specs and seen quad core I quickly shifted to this device setting how there a minor 50 difference in price. Been kinda quick browsing the q and a and seen some discerning threads about issues people are having. As a overall do most of you highly recommend this tab or is it still to new and buggy? Any direction any of the users of this can give would be greatly appreciated as a$500 investment I wanna make sure i'm not going regret it in a week.
Thanks

As long as you don't need GPS (and you don't get a dodgey one from the factory where the wifi doesn't work) I would recommend it over any other tablet atm.
I was also debating weather to get it because of its issues but I don't regret my purchase at all

Never used the gtab personally but my prime is great for all of the above. Really its great for anything I use it for, haven't found a need for GPS yet so it hasn't been an issue for me.
I get my prime a week ago and a can say only waau this thnig is so fast the display is perfect wifi works perfectly beter than on my htc hd2 but the gps isnt good the satelite fix takes to long if i fortunately get more then 3 satelites but i dont wont to use 10 inch screen for navigation so for me is prime the best portable device

Ah, the daily "should I buy" thread. It's amazing how many people use the internet but have no clue how to search.
Galaxy tab tab has outdated hardware n no expandable memory. Prime is a far better value and the specs blow the tabs away. Read the positive transformer thread in my signature and also check out a thread in general called List what works great on your prime.
Awesome guys thanks for your input.I'll give you thanks when I get on from my comp. Reading reviews on CNET is one thing but to here from people who are actually using it is very helpful. and to the one troll I didn't force you to read this so take your keyboard bad ass elsewhere.

Also one other thing, been reading about allot of bricked tablets. from personal experience how difficult is this thing to root and flash? Like scale 1-10, 10 being hardest. I'm not asking for a how to as I know where to go for that. my gs2 was simple as hell and chances for brick was mainly user error like flashing wrong ROM. So just lil heads up on actually rooting experience would be helpful in sealing my decision for this monster tab.

rooting is so simple. viperMOD PrimeTime, is the easiest way to root its a one click root. so far i have used it probably 10 times.... the ota updates cancel out your root
Also i'm curious, seems to me that the GPS issue wouldn't really be much of one. For one like other guy mentioned who needs a 10 in GPS, also since these aren't carrier specific they use wifi. So you have to tether your phone wifi to the tablet..be easier just using your phone GPS from the beginning even if GPS did work properly....

Agreed that navigation is pointless on a device like this, but what about apps that use your location like facebook check ins, geotagging photos, foursquare, viber(sends location in messages), google+, etc.
Are there any problems with apps like these?
For me getting a gps fix for apps that need it (not navigation) is important.

Your device locates you based on the IP address location. This is not a specific location as it only points to a nearby ISP server.
I think from what I've heard, GPS works fine with the ICS update.
There's nothing wrong with the guy trying to find as much info as he possibly can before making a major purchase like this. For some people tossing 500+ on a gadget s a major purchase, and they like to be sure about it.
I'm the same way, I'm a college student and I never buy anything expensive without a lot of research.
Anyways... This thing rocks.
Yes there are some issues, but what device doesn't have them? nothing is perfect.
Asus may not have the best customer support, but they will take care of you if you get a bad unit with the major issues you've seen people post about on the forum.
Also remember - people always post about problems, not about how well their device is working.
I just got mine 3 days ago and I am in love with it. I haven't touched my laptop once, and I am strongly considering selling it. This little device can pretty much do everything a laptop can with the dock.
And now that we can unlock the Primes, the sky is the limit with what the devs will come up with as far as custom roms, kernels, and modifications.
If you plan on buying it, I highly recommend the dock, it adds so much more functionality to it, plus the extra battery life is amazing.
Otherwise, you wont regret it, this is truly an awesome tablet, and blows everything else on the market out of the water right now.
I bought mine a week ago and love it, if you have best buy near by, they usally have the TF101 and TF201 side by side, play on both of them, the answer will be obvious in about 2 minute... G_tab have the same processor as TF101 I think...
Thank you guys! I was thinking about getting one, but the problem is, I live in Brazil, and the Prime is not for sale here yet (only in black market, but they cost 4 times the US price). As I don't use GPS much, guess I'll grab one.
But searching on line I found there are few stores selling it, makes me wonder why...
Microcenter would be a nice place to buy, US$ 50 less than in bestbuy.

My brother has one and i love it. cant beat that price for one of the most powerful tablets on the market now.
Pros:
Hardware
Google updates
$$$
Cons:
No expandable memory. He has the 8gb from launch and it cant hold that much. he blew through the 8gb fast and is now trying to play catch up when downloading new games.
If you plan on getting one. Please get the 32gb. I know people will argue saying its not needed if you're just going to browse or watch a couple of videos. But it happens to fill up quickly and you cant change your mind. lol
U love mine kindda p.o. about buying one before the price dropped lol but get one it is worth it

I bought my gf one for her birthday and she loves it. She hardly even uses her computer anymore. I love the fact that you can add multiple users. She has her own profile and when I feel like using it I click on my profile and instantly shows all my stuff on my own home screen.
Oh and the only thing she doesn't like about it is the camera quality on Skype is horrible. I've read that there are mods to improve the camera quality, but because this is her tablet I am not rooting it.

I absolutely love mine. I got the 16gb version and I use it every day. My laptop basically only gets used for burning CDs now. I'm running the stock rooted 4.2.1 and I think it's perfect. This is the first Android device where I didn't have a desire to install a different launcher or install some form of heavily modified or AOSP ROM. It's worth every penny in my opinion.

Not sure if i will get in trouble for posting this in here, but,my reason is because the Rezound forum is where i spend all my time and i wanted to ask you guy's/gal's instead! :silly:
Anyway, anyone here have an N7 and can give some personal experience pros/cons?
Looking to pick one up for X-mas. Will mainly be used by my wife and myself for browsing, watching vids, e-books. Anyone have a blue tooth keyboard attached that they recommend?
Feel free to add any additional info that you think a perspective buyer may be interested to know.
Thanks everyone!:good:

I love mine, just got it last week. my girlfriend has her settings and i have mine, it's awesome. i use a logitech bluetooth keyboard and google drive during school to take notes. the keyboard pairs easily and i experience little to no lag while using it. i can download my books on there too and boom, that all i have to bring. the keyboard comes with a case that transforms into a stand for the tablet when taking notes.. i linked it below, it's also available at best buy(where i got mine). good luck, it's definitely a good buy. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-...words=logitech+bluetooth+keyboard+for+android
I absolutely love my N7 and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much. Feel free to PM me with any questions you have. If you're doing research in the N7 sections, in the past it's been mostly trolls and morons who post in general but not development, so at the very least find someone who is active in both sections.

I have the 32gb version and I am very happy with it. I take mine out in the field with me and have it tethered it to my Rezound which is great for my daily use. If you are flasher then I would suggest taking a look at the Nexus 7 forums, some really nice Roms.
It is great for what it is, just don't have false expectations. Not to be combative but if she plans on doing the things you mentioned extra memory is not needed. I am a fairly heavy user and haven't even looked to see how much of my 16gb I have used.
Con: as a flasher I get kind of annoyed with all of the updates. bc so many updates the roms never really smooth out. Everytime I think it's set up great there is a new update. (first time with a nexus so maybe just annoyed with change).
I have an 8gb one with an OTG cable. I hook up my 16gb card to it. I also stream my music and movies from my server. Bought the OTG cable on Amazon for $.70.

I've had one since release ans I love it. Only con I can see is that there is no expandable memory options however the device holds up really nice. I have a Bluetooth keyboard for it as well, I got it from Motorola off of Amazon and haven't looked back I also have a treegloo case for it however I'm not sure I would recommend it because as of late it has been starting to break down even though I haven't abused it in the slightest

Well, it will be a Merry Christmas in my household......I picked up a 32gb last night!!
All i did was charge it a bit and turn it on to make sure it was working properly and immediately put it back in the box. Mainly bc my wife and myself are dorks and want to wait til christmas morning to officially open it :silly:
Now I am accessory shopping, need a nice case and maybe a stylus. I messed around with the display model a bit, and, with an iPad mini. Mini is wider, thinner and a bit lighter. And the thinness and lighjtness is where the comparison stops for me. The screen on the Nexus absolutely blows the mini out of the water. I didn't get too in depth using them, but I didnt need to. The screen comparison blew me away. I couldn't get over it.
Can't wait to hack away Christamas morning!
Good choice:thumbup:

Don't have time to read through the entire thread to see what everyone is saying, BUT if you are considering getting one then you definitely should. I don't even know where to start, but its perfect in every way. Very brief breakdown.
Pros: the perfect size, battery life is great, ROM development is plentiful, the device itself is really fast(running aokp 4.2.1) , lots of options for cases, and much more.
Cons: None!
I originally got it for when I run on my treadmill in the basement to watch Netflix and downloaded TV shows. Now after having it for a month I bring the thing with me almost everywhere. Best $250 I've spent in a long time.

Also, not sure what style of case you're looking for, but I went with this one. I love it. Perfect mix between class and protection. Can't beat the price either.
