[Q] Arabic for Samsung Galaxy S II - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-i9100). It came with Android 2.3.3, obviously, but with Arabic support. I noticed that the battery life was a bit on the low side. I found out that it was fixed in Android 2.3.4, but it hasn't been officially released! I found the leak and downloaded it, then I followed the instructions. It worked! The problem is that it doesn't have Arabic language support.
Now, I want one of the two, both isn't bad! :
1- Android 2.3.4 with Arabic support (if that's even out yet )
2- Android 2.3.3 (obviously, with Arabic), so I can install it until the official 2.3.4 Arabic comes out.
I want the full ROM, eg. 3 ".tar" files and one ".pit" file. Or else, you can teach me how to fully flash the files you give me. I don't want to do something wrong and brick my SGSII.

A bit more help please.
I mentioned that I was a newbie, right?
I don't know what a Kernel is. I do know that it's in my smartphone, my current version is "[email protected] #2". That's what it says in "About Phone" in Settings.
I downloaded the file you gave me the link to: GT-I9100_XSG_I9100JPKJ2_I9100OJPKJ1_I9100XXKI4.exe
Now, what do I do with it? It's an .exe file, I know it might be an auto-unzipper, but I want to be 100% SURE before I do anything. Can you tell me exactly what to do with the above file? Treat me as a newby, but one who catches on quickly
[EDIT]: I ran it, and I was right, it was an auto-unzipper. It gave me a 502Mb .MD5 file. What do I do with that?
[EDIT2]: I just read here that you're not supposed to put a .pit file in Odin. When I flashed 2.3.4 on my SGSII, I put .pit and it worked. What's better to do?

Bump
Bump; I'm waiting for an answer, I don't want to do anything I don't know. Anyone, PLEASE reply.

dont use pit file....just in ODIN under pda select the file you extracted (502MB.md5) and hit start....thats it.

If I just put the 502mb .md5 file, won't that wipe everything (the modem and code files) and just put the CSC file leaving everything behind?
I'm guessing because we don't put the .pit file, there's no need to tick repartition?
[EDIT]: I just did what you said and it worked. Thanks so much!

Korean Stock Firmware?

These seem to be the stock Korean SII firmware for the two main carriers:
For SHW-M250K (KTF firmware) http://matpclub.com/s/pxeboard31/2706591
For SHW-M250S (SKT firmware) http://matpclub.com/s/pxeboard31/2698765
It's a torrent? It's just been uploaded (as in, just then, lol) so no seeds, give it some time I guess. Time for me to go back to the stock firmware maybe.
Anyone more experienced willing to grab them and go over them?
Update:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UYYWHYOY
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T8Y80YBG
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=32NTASOW
M250K.EE31
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4J24QBTK
anyone find call recording in there?
I desperately need the SHW-M250K (KTF firmware) but I can´t work out how to get the torrent file and the megaupload links seem to be dead (at least they can´t be opened in China).
Whenever o try to download HOME_M250K.EE05.0315_CL186865_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.torrent , I just get another page in korean and can´t get through it
You need to sign up for an account to download the torrent file.
I've attached them anyway, there seems to be two EE05 torrents, dunno what's going on there.
Thanks a lot
I was trying to root a SHW-M250K with XWKDD_insecure but something went wrong, so i think now the best thing to do is re-flash the firmware and try again. Which torrent is for the (KTF firmware)?
Did you root yours?
XWKDD_insecure will work, it'll root fine but you'll be stuck in a boot loop. Just need to reflash the stock kernel afterwards.
Mine's rooted and purring along nicely. I'm using the latest M250K.EE19 with the overclock kernel from here: http://matpclub.com/s/?mid=pxeboard10&category=1191749&document_srl=2804608
I used the S2 ED24 rooting kernel (from here?) to root it first. Again, it did a boot loop but the root worked fine, just flashed the OC kernel afterwards.
For EE05 just flash the rooting kernel, root it and reflash the stock kernel. Done.
I suggest you sign up for http://matpclub.com/s/matcl
Considering you have the Korean model it's almost a necessity.
sorry for all the question but I just want to know If I got this straight.
So all I have to do to is to use Odin to flash the file KT_GalaxyS2_EE05_rooting.zip and then get it back in download mode and re-flash T_GalaxyS2_EE05_stock_kernel.zip
If you're on EE05 firmware, all you have to do is:
1. Go into download mode.
2. Flash the EE05 'rooting' kernel
3. Run superoneclick and root the phone. It'll tell you if it's successful.
4. Go back into download mode and flash the stock EE05 kernel back.
I ran Odin but when i click on the PDA it doesnt allow me to choose the .zip files.
How do I flash with these .zip files?
Uh, you need to extract the tarball from the zip file. Odin will flash using the .tar file.
After a weekend of worrying about the damn phone finally your method worked like a charm, thanks so much!
I still need to figure out how to unlock it but all in due time.
I looked at http://matpclub.com/s/matcl as you mentioned but I can´t read any Korean
But thanks again for taking the time to help me, if you ever need anything from China let me know, I owe you big time .
No worries. They'll be opening up an English section of the site in a few months.
Does anyone know what the difference between the EE05 Kernal and the EE31 Kernal is? Do I want to make sure I'm at the latest version?
when I do *#1234# I get
PDA : M250k.EE31.1419
Phone : M250k.EE17.1456.KT
MOVINAND : EE05
Any idea what that means?
could you upload a Gyroscope driver from your Korean phone for my ke7 rom? i use the m250k ,but i want to flash the ke7````thx~!
thanks for the info.
Actually, I am kind of a newbie in android, now I've got SHW-M250K in my hand.
Basically, the latest firmware of my SGS2 is PDA:EE31/PHONE:EE17, and actually KIES said it is the latest firmware.
I can't understand korean language so well, so I can't understand the link that you show to us. I am still living in Korea now, but actually I am Indonesian
My SGS2 is not rooted, and I don't really familiar with "ROOT", However, could someone help me about how to root and what is the latest firmware of this phone?
Could you please make the "how-to" in a simple way that can be followed by newbie like me?
thanks in advance
I want to root my phone and I'm new this this. Can anyone post a step by step with download links? Can't navigate Korean sites. Are there risks to this?

If you follow the third link in that post, you'll end up at a site where you can download:
[Root]HOME_M250S.EG14.1208_CL380592_REV02_user_low_ship.zip
This is a pre-rooted stock firmware.
Download it, then:
Enable debug mode in your phone's applications>Development settings.
Turn the phone off.
Enter download mode. Hold down 'vol. down+Home+power' in that order. Press 'vol up' for yes.
Run odin 1.8.5 then plug your phone into your computer. Odin should light up, if not then reinstall your phone's drivers. Find them on the samsung site or install Kies.
Open 'PDA' and direct it to the .tar file you get when you extract "[Root]HOME_M250S.EG14.1208_CL380592_REV02_user_low_ship.zip"
Don't touch anything else, press Start.
It'll take a few minutes and your phone should restart at the end. If it takes longer than 5 minutes press the home button or restart your phone.
Done.

Odin freezes during KI3 Update!

Hello folks,
I'm trying to update my Galaxy S2 to the KI3 firmware (because of recommendations concerning battery life), and a few weeks ago, I followed this tutorial and bricked my phone. (Full brick)
Now I got my phone back, everything is repaired, but the firmware is on version 2.3.3. Since my provider is still struggling with testing the 2.3.4 (which is ridiculous), I really want to update it to 2.3.5 with Odin.
I killed all kies-related processes and ran the program with administrator rights, but it keeps freezing at "<OSM> Please Wait...". Then I have to reset the phone and everything is back to the starting point. I checked "Re-Partition", inserted the PIT/Phone/PDA/CSC files all properly and tried every USB port available.
I just want the stock KI3, not a custom ROM.
Can anybody help me, please?
Edit: OS is Windows 7 64-Bit, and I'm using Odin 1.85.

Wait, what?
If this guide is telling you to repartition, find another guide, preferably one from these forums.
I'm trying to find a stock 2.3.5 KI3 on the Original Android Development Forum, but I just can't seem to find one. Maybe I'm blind or just too stupid to find the correct search terms. :I
Edit: I found this one, but have no idea what deodexed or zipaligned could mean. I'll try it anyway.
Edit 2: Wait, I need CWM for this. Is there somewhere a KI3 for Odin?

Thank you, thank you so much!
"5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron"
I feel guilty now.
re-partition is ok, because he has pit file..

Why can some opdate to 2.3.5 and other not ?

When I read in various forums, I read that many have the ability to update their phone to 2.3.5. I'm still running with 2.3.3 and examine every day there's a new update. I connect my phone to Kies or I put the phone to see whether there is a software update - but no.
What is it that makes some can update and others can not?
My phone was purchased without subscription to any mobile operator.
Short answer:
KIES is crap.
Slightly longer answer:
For some reason this software is unreliable. I had exactly the same problem when I wanted to flash a stock rom back on my phone. I got the oldest one available on the Web and wanted to update it using KIES. But it didn't work.
My suggestion:
Find the update you're waiting for here on xda and flash it with Odin.

Is it equally safe to use Odin, and how do I ensure that it is the real "file" I use -
If you follow the instructions it works safely. The best is to compare the screenshot on the thread with your actual window before flashing. Odin has some features you don't want to use like the "pit-file". However it's said multiple times that you should never flash it unless strictly told to do so, what stock firmwares don't.
So just check everything twice and you're good to go.
You know whether you have the right update if you have a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
So unless you live in India, a firmware with the Indian letter-code is wrong for you.
Just get the most recent, official one available for you region, read the instructions carefully and forget about KIES. KIES needs longer to recognize my phone than Odin needs to update it. I think that reason is enough to uninstall KIES and use Odin instead.

+1 forget upgrading with keis. Go with Odin and intratechs firmware.

How to Upadate
a site www.sammobile.com has all the latest official ROMs for all the Samsung phones. These ROMs do not require rooting or anything. Though these are "official" they might not be perfect by they offer the latest Samsung has to offer.
I never update with Kies. Learn to use Odin. Usually, the ROMs on www.sammobile.com have the appropriate version of ODIN attached as well as any PIT file that is necessary.
Spend some time learning how to flash with ODIN. I've flashed both my Samsung phones 10s of times with no problem whatsoever.
The great thing about buying an international version of the Samsung phones is that there are software updates at least monthly and sometimes twice a month (posted on sammobile.
Samsung got a bad rap for being slow to update it's software a couple years ago. That has changed. I consider them the best now and buy Samsung Phones over HTC primarly for this reason.
I have install "Android CSC Select" and the only one I can see is "XEF", is this because I have en international firmware in my phone right now ?
I'm from Denmark sow why can't I see the NEE for scandinavian ?
I am very unsure about which file I need when I update with "odin" ..
Is there a good and safe program that allowsme to take a backup of the firmware I have now so I can use if all goes wrong?

There are, but they require root-permissions to run.
As for the firmware. Take a look at your system information, at which firmware you have installed right now.

http://gupl.dk/668021/
I took the time to install and test both firmwares (the one you have right now and the one I think to be the proper one for you now) on my Phone.
Worked nicely.
Here is what firmware I took and why:
Your "Baseband Version" is:
I9100XXKG1
Your "Kernel Version" is:
blah....I9100XWKG1...blah
And your "Sales Code" is:
XEF
This is the following firmware on Intratech's thread:
XWKG1
Firmware info
PDA:XWKG1
PHONE: XXKG1
Date: 05/07/2011
Android 2.3.3
XEF (France): "Downloadlink you would use..."
Click to collapse
The updated firmware is this one:
XWKJ1
Android 2.3.5
This package has: PDA: XWKJ1| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKH2
Download: "Downloadlink for the first file"
Click to collapse
Note that it has the "XEU" Sales Code instead of the "XEF" Sales Code.
However, if you scroll down you can see:
Individual CSC Packages
...blah
XEF CSC (XEFKE2): "Downloadlink for the second file..."
Click to collapse
So what you do is:
Download the first file (.exe ~ 276mb)
Download the second file (.exe ~ 14,9mb)
Extract them both (you get a ~ 539mb .tar.md5 and a ~ 33mb .tar file)
Make sure KIES does not run (not in the tray as well)
Put your Galaxy S2 in download mode and confirm that you know what you're doing
Start Odin and connect your phone
Click on "PDA" and select the ~ 539 mb ".tar.md5"-file
Click on "CSC" and select the ~ 33 mb ".tar"-file
Make sure that only the following 4 checkboxes are checked (Auto Reboot; F. Reset Time; PDA, CSC)
Wait until "ID:COM" has an entry and becomes yellow (entry like: 0:[COM12])
Click on "Start" and wait untill it finishes
Disconnect your phone once it reboots
Report back if it works
The links to the 2 files I should download does not work.
What is the reason that I also need to install a CSC file (I'm just curious)? and the files you reference makes it possible to run my phone in Danish?
You find them in Intratech's thread I posted earlier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
The CSC is the contry specific code and contains info for your mobile network. To keep it simple, just flash both. Otherwise you'd have to set up your mobile network manually.
PS:
I ran both firmwares on danish when I tested them.
First file:
http://www.multiupload.com/QYQLC8KGJ8
Second file:
http://www.multiupload.com/1TCEUGSFKA
Before I start I would like to hear whether you use a backup program that makes it easy to restore programs and settings after the opdate ?
You don't need to wipe data (at least I didn't and the settings weren't reset). So you shouldn't have any problems. You're not flashing an entirely different rom, just an updated version of the same.
I don't know, doesn't KIES have some sort of backup function? Besides that your contacts, calender and google-mail can be synced with your google-account.
Anyway, if you want proper backups, you'll need to root you phone.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Thank for your help - Every work and look fine .
Hmm i might give this a go later... wasn't going to root this phone i got too addicted with my desire so this could satisfy my urge to update constantly...
I will prob root at some stage

[Q] How to install Kies downloaded firmware?

After searching around in the forum, I have a specific question I cannot find the answer to.
I am presently on the overcome 2.2.0 Rom (P7510, XWKL1). The result of this is that, of course, it cannot be updated through KIES.
My Kies downloaded a file for upgrading my 7510, which can be found on the harddisk, and is XWKL1 stock for my Dutch region (PHN). The Overcome Rom is XAB.
In preparation for ICS (stock, coming in the next two months I hope), I would like to go back to the stock XWKL1 for PHN.
I am stuck as to the procedure though:
1) restocking with the overcome restocking will not be PHN as well, so Kies will not upgrade for PHN
2) I have found the firmware upgrade file on my harddisk, but is has no extension and therefor I do not know how to install this over overcome 2.2.0. How do I turn this file into something I can flash?
Who can give me the precise instructions here?
Hi I'm also looking for a long time to a Dutch ROM PHN csc
You'll have to use Odin and a stock firmware from samfirmware.com
You also have the flashing guide on the same site
I installed the ROM via odin but in none of the stock ROMs is the Dutch csc present.
** Bumping this **
As I have note been able to sort out what I wanted, I'll try again with this bump.
Specifically tryin to find the answer to question 2 in my OP:
2) I have found the firmware upgrade file on my harddisk, but is has no extension and therefor I do not know how to install this over overcome 2.2.0. How do I turn this file into something I can flash?
Have searched again in the forums but did not find the answer.
All files have some sort of extension. At least in my experience. It may not show but it's still got a file type/extension. On a windows machine find the file and right click on it and choose properties. It should show xxxxx.yyy where yyy is the file type/extension. Post what it is and someone will let you know what to use it with.
This is my best suggestion.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using one stinky finger.
The file really has no extension. I have showing the extensions turned on in windows, so it would show if it had one. The filename is: XWKL1PHNKK1XWKL1XWKL1 and giving it a .zip or .rar extension does not make it readable.
I'm at a loss then. I've never seen a file that didn't end with (dot)something. I'll look more into it and hopefully someone will help before it's lost.
Sorry I couldn't help.
If you see this it was sent using my GT-P7510.
When kies downloads a firmware it saves it in a file that only Kies can read, I would however suggest you just get it downloaded from sammobile site, as they have it there, you may need to register, but I do hope their file sharing issues are rectified and the links still work... Bloody SOPA.
You could however factory reset?
I could, but Sammobile does not have this firmware/CSC combination available for download. Do you know of someway to kickstart Kies into installing the firmware it has downloaded, so I can go back to a restoch and then force the install of this firmware?

Well like I said, back then the original firmware files would consist of 3 different files, the Phone/PDA/CSC, you just need the PDA file, Apparently they've made it easier now by making sure all you need is the PDA file and just to flash that file via Odin in the *not so obvious * PDA slot, It now contains the CSC/Regional of the desired firmware and the modem.img

Just a quick question, what is a Kies file format? Is it xxxx.yyy or just xxxx with yyy being a format or extention?
Or am I just completely ignorant on this?

As far as I know the format is somewhat like xxxyyy it's just a dump file, I haven't gotten around to waste time and figure what app works best on opening/converting, and plus it's risky since if the normalboot.img doesn't get flashed you may end up with a brick but I'm pretty sure its in a md5 format or a tar atleast.

Arabic 4.0.4 ICS for galaxy s2

Hi all,
How can I update my S2 galaxy to the new 4.0.4 ICS which supported the Arabic (JPLPC)? I'll be grateful if you help me in this..
Cheers
JPLPC is 4.03 not 4.04.
read how to use Odin, download the file from sammobile
put csc in csc put boot in boot loader put phone in modem and other largest file in pda.
before and after flash wipe is recommended.
if there is a 4.0.4 arabic version, i wouldnt rush to flash it, but there isnt as the above me said JPLPC is 4.0.3,
there are two ways to flash it, that depends on how your files are
BEFORE ANYTHING CHECK IF YOU HAVE THE BIRCKBUG
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693704
1. download this file incase you didnt download the rom yet
http://hotfile.com/dl/157253309/75a5bbb/I9100JPLPC_I9100OJPLP9_OJP.rar.html
2. download the odin flasher
http://www.mediafire.com/?zno66bwe89w3k08
3. extract your rom on to the desktop (it doesnt really matter)
DELETE .PIT FILE
shut down your device
press home+power+power
you should now be in download mode, make sure you have your drivers correctly installed
plug your device into your pc, make sure that it finish's its driver installation correctly
open Odin
BOOTLOADER= I9100_APBOOT_I9100JPLPC_CL537255_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
PDA= I9100_CODE_I9100JPLPC_CL537255_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
PHONE= MODEM_I9100XXLPW_REV_02_CL1131641.tar
CSC= GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OJPLP9.tar
make sure that you see a yellow rectangle when you plug in your device
THEN PRESS START
this is just a rough guide for a better one search xda forums there are alot
Thanks guys for your feedback, it's worked!
any time my brother, always happy to help someone from my country, im happy to help anyone from anywhere, but its just that people in my country dont know much about android (root, flashing roms, kernel, etc.) so i try to support them more, hopefully i can get more people from my country to become dev's, or am i dreaming to far
