So just recently I have been noticing that sometimes after my phone lock i can wake it up. Just stays on a black screen, adb works though as i can adb reboot. But the phone will not wake up until i pull the battery or adb reboot. And today at work i tried to adb reboot, it didn´t work and when i did adb devices i got this.

The sleep issue has happened on MIUI and currently on Anroid Revolution roms. I don´t normally post, but i really can´t find anything on this issue. Help is appreciated.
Is there a certain app that you have used in all the roms. Sometimes when app is doing a lot of background work it will lock up the phone.

hmm that seems to be a possibility. but i dont think any apps i use do so much background work that it locks it up i mean. every time this happens it drives me nuts lol.
Try reflashing your kernel after a wipe of cache and davlik-cache and see if that helps at all. Also are you overclocking?? Or underclocking?? If so maybe your sleep gov min frequency is set to low. If this is the case then try rasing it a little and see if that helps as well.

ok ill try raising the sleep clock a bit. also it happened again right now and when i plugged in the usb cable to my pc the amber charge light didnt come one, had to battery pull. ty
I just noticed that it happens when i hit the power button to unlock and the screen doesnt detect my finger. I lock it and tried to unlock and it happened. T.T

Hi,
I have looked with the search, but nothing even close comes up....
(prove me wrong, I'll be happy to find the solution)
Basically, my lock screen and my today screens have stopped shutting down after the preset time?
I have tried changing the time but nothing, I sit watching the screen like some sort of muppet, mentally counting down a minute or 30 seconds to see if it will shut down but nothing.
Not a problem over the bank holiday weekend as the phone also gets a decent rest, but come Tuesday when all hell lets loose I will need all the battery I can have, and a screen that stays on 24/7 isn't going to help!
Ta.
try phone reboot! i had that problem when i had an application running in background which did not allow auto-screen-off

What was the application? Not had the issue as yet but if it happens it would be nice to know what to look out for.

Hi,
I know i should RTFM , but how do you reboot? and it this like like a hard reset/ soft reste for a Winmo phone? And will it delete anything?
Sorry to be a noobie.
i just meant to shutdown the phone and then turn it on ;-)
if you have the problem resulting of a background app which deactivates screen-off, this will solve it
I am using CM7 latest weekely every thing is perfect but now suddenly my phones screen turns on like call is coming and turns back off after 2 sec and this happens randomly.
is this expected behavior?
is there any work around?
My fiancee has an atrix that is totally stock and hers just started doing this yesterday. I would also like to know the answer to this. I was thinking it was a hardware issue with the power button but hopefully i am wrong, that way I dont have to mess with a warranty exchange. Any help would be appreciated.
by any chance have u just start using this app "Memory Booster - RAM Optimizer" if yes then this might be the one, i have just messed around in its settingsd and no screen wakup problems so far

No. The only apps that I think might cause this that I have on her phone is beautiful widgets and a data toggle. She has had these apps on there for awhile and the phone just started to act up.

Both me and my brother own atrix and it happens on both.It was happening on stock 2.3.4 and now on cm7 as well it must be something with the phone not a rom related issue
i also have beautiful widgets, can sk8trix conform that his and his brother phone have this app too. if yes then this might be the cause. or we have to tell each other whole list of apps that we have installed to narrow down the culprit.
On her phone I have all of her apps that are supposed to sync turned off. I recently installed data enabler for her so she would have a data toggle on her home screen. I use advanced task manager to kill her apps by force stopping them. Last night I used it and closed everything and turned her screen off. 5 minutes later it come on for about two seconds and shut off. I have been looking at what apps might be causing this and really dont see anything unusual except for the data enabler and beautiful widgets. I will uninstall both of those and report back later on to let you know the result. Hopefully someone else will come along with a better solution.

I don't use beautiful widgets ever.....I even tried with a clean install no apps installed except stock cm7 apps and google apps and it still happened so I gave up trying to figure it out.
it doesn't shorten my battery life at all so I don't worry however if there is a fix I will use it because it is annoying.
Edit the only time the phones wake up by themselves is right after we hit the power button to turn the screen off or when the phone firat boots and is still locked it will turn the screen off and turn it back on the dim again.
I dont think its cm7 issue cos i was at weekly # 4 and there was no issue then i flashed tuch recovery and after that boot it started happening. Then i flashed latest weekely and reverted back to old recovery. And i agree this only happen when i turn screen off (randomly)
OK here is where I am at now with this problem. I uninstalled both apps and it seems to be ok for the time being, but my fiancee told me she had been receiving weird messages in her notification bar. I looked into it and she was getting ads in her notification bar. So I downloaded AirPush Detector from the market and ran a scan on her phone and it detected a couple of apps pushing notifications. I got rid of the apps and now im back to checking the phone again. I dont know if that AirPush app would help you guys out or not but it would hurt to try.
since i have started this thread my problems have gone away like a little *****, and i dont know how to recreate this problem any more so i am stuck with no problem no solution thing.
12 hrs passed no problem so far.
It was apps in the background running. Airpush helped. I told her from now on no more free apps, i would rather buy them then fight this **** again. I put the data toggle and beautiful widgets back on her phone and it's ok. Thanks for your guys input.

I am having The same problem with my Samsung Galaxy ace Gt-5830i.
Earlier it had problems with charging and SD card. So we took it to authorized service center. And they said they had formatted the phone and installed stock ROM on it. They also replaced the charger port. But now after two days the phone screen is turning on and off at repeated intervals (for about 2 Seconds). So what might be the problem.
Hi there!
I have the following problem with my S3 (bualf1 austrian vodafone branding )
The screen stays on after the charger is plugged and the screen turns on after charging is complete!
I've done a factory reset and the problem has seemed to solved, but yesterday the problem has occured again!
I've really tried everything (every option, enabling / disabling everything, uninstalling apps, ...)
When shutting the phone down, the screen reacts as supposed (turns off while charging )
Any suggestion for me?

same problem as mine, occured only once. my workaround is by manually lock the phone (press power button). what kernel you use?
Are you absolutely sure this is not linked to a software you have installed?
There are certain titles that allow you to leave the screen on whilst being charged. Look carefully, it could be quite obscure.
As you said, it cleared when you did a Factory Reset but has now returned ~ thus indicating a recently installed App has resumed the screen on operation.
In reference to the phone coming on when fully charged, that is normal but the most likely reason it is not going back off again is due to whatever App setting you have that is then telling the phone once the screen is on keep it on.

Stock kernel, stock (austrian branded) firmware!
Manually locking works for me, but when den charging is finished the phone's display turns (and stays) on - that is my problem!

Thats the same thinkings i have, but i didn't managed to find out, what app this could be...
the strange thing is, it works as intended when no power source is plugged (screen turns off after 30 seconds), it just doesn't turn off while charging
no idea anyone?

I'm afraid without knowing which Apps you have installed it would be difficult to find the culprit.
If it were me I would do the following:-
1. Factory Reset again only this time do it from Recovery ~ [The recovery mode in Samsung Galaxy S III can be entered by pressing the Volume Up Key, Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button]
2. From the options provided select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system. You now have a completely cleared system so the next stage is important.....
3. Just install the settings, nothing more and certainly don't let Google Play reinstall your Apps.
4. Connect your power cable and see if once the S3 is charged the screen comes ON to notify you it is charged BUT THE SCREEN THEN TURNS OFF after a brief period. If it does then you at least will know under the basic setup your phone is fine. Now another slow but probably most important bit........
5. Start installing your Apps (say ten at a time) and then reboot your phone when all ten are installed and again start charging the phone.
At this stage we want to see what happens after charging is complete. If all is fine you then know what Apps are installed don't effect the screen ON problem, so continue installing another ten Apps and again reboot the phone and apply the charger to see if once charged the screen turns ON then OFF.
Continue repeating this procedure until you notice after a charge the screen this time does not turn OFF.
6. Right..... you now know the problem is being caused by one of the last ten Apps you installed. So, uninstall each App in turn (making sure you reboot each and every time you uninstall) and again recharge. This should eventually lead to one individual App that has caused the problem (the remaining Apps you uninstalled from the last ten can now be re-installed).
7. Investigate that App thoroughly to see if it alters anything on your phone that is causing the problem. Also name the App so we can look at it too.
It's a slow process granted but it's the only way you are going to find out what is causing the issue.
Basically, if it's happening from a fresh Factory Reset (via Recovery using the methods I mentioned above) then it's an issue directly with the phone.
If all is well then it's an issue with an individual App.
Good Hunting......
Same thing happened to me today and i never noticed it happen before..
Went to plug the phone in and the screen was on so i figured "Oh it will turn off after 15 seconds like usual" came back 5 minutes later still on.... uhh okay, so i hit the power button the screen went off.. I went to the restroom came back.. SCREEN BACK ON AGAIN? hmmm dubya tee eff? Turned it off again with the power button.. This time it stayed off..
Stock firmware latest upgraded 2 days after the 4th of the july.
Which firmware do you have?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Well, that's what i've done:
1.) factory reset
2.) reinstall all settings and mailaccounts
3.) reboot and see if it still works
4.) install and configure 5 apps
5.) reboot and see if it still works
6.) repeat steps 4. und 5. as long as all apps are reinstalled and reconfigured
and so, finally the guilty app was found!
EXTENDED CONTROLS causes the problem, that the screen stays on when a charger is plugged!
Tested it on all 4 own mobiles, all of them are working as normal again!!!
THANKS BEARD!!!
Hello everybody,
I was playing with SWApp Link when suddenly my watch restarted by itself and got stuck in the Omate TrueSmart logo... I can't turn it off and it's getting hot... isn't a way to restart it like a smartphone?? I don't have the screwdriver with me so I can't pull the battery off, and also I want to avoid that because of the warranty...
Any ideas?
Connect it to adb, type "adb reboot" in a command console.
I left home with the watch fully charged so I didn't bring the charger either...
I guess I'll have to wait until it dies or I arrive home and try to reboot it using adb... the thing is I already tried once to connect it to my Mac and see if adb recognized it but had no luck...
EDIT: Finally, battery's dead... I'll charge it once I arrive home... two days with my TrueSmart and already got a freeze... disappointing...
If that happens again, see if you can get a log while it hangs there with "adb logcat > ts1_freeze.txt"
I'll do that, thanks for the advise.
I now have a worse problem... My Bluetooth isn't working... I turn it on and it turns off immediately, I mean, I barely can see the switch changing from OFF to ON when it changes back to OFF.

Go into settings, disable quick boot under accessibility, and reboot.
This is actually a bug introduced in 4.2.2 and usually requires you to wipe cache to clear it out.
Thanks! :cyclops:
Should I enable it again? What is it for?

Just keeps the device in hibernate for quick startup. If drivers crash, they can't be recovered without a power cycle.
I've had a bricked phone before but nothing like this.
GPE edition w/CM nightly installed for 5 days with full wipe.
Running beautifully. Was listening to music on Amp. Music stopped.
Couldnt turn phone on.
Couldn't go to revovery (Twrp) via buttons. Couldn't get to fastboot on computer. No lights no responses.. nothing.
B R I C K.
All I can think of is malware via Chrome dev? All Chrome apps had been acting up. Had to wipe data and download data to get them working again. Another behaviour is at times when switching apps the phone would switch very briefly to the sony bootup icon then go to the app. Wierd.
Sincerely wierded out by it and bummed.

Yeah, that's nothing new and is just a glitch, so that alone doesn't mean anything. The fact that your phone just stopped working is weird though, and I can't think of anything that would do something like this, and you couldn't have been infected with anything unless you've installed an infected APK from a third-party.
You can't enter fastboot? Hold down VOL UP while you connect your Ultra to your computer using the USB cable. Be aware that you must have Fastboot installed on your computer.
Yeah, no response whatsoever trying to get to fastbboot.
