Hi,
I have an Xperia Play.
However, I am always running out of space on my internal storage...but I don't know why.
I am rooted with with both Titanium & App2SD installed.
I have very few apps installed and nearly all of them have been moved to my SD card. Yet I only have around 40mb free on my internal storage (from a total of 400mb).
I cannot figure out what is using all of my internal space. I have looked in Titanium at apps using my interal storage and it does not even come close to the 350mb it says I am using.
What could be using all this space and is there any way to find out for sure?
Thanks!
Its the app data and the dalvik cache.
Have u heard of partitioning and s2e?
move app data and dalvik cache to sd ext. that gives u more internal memory.

Hi, I think it's useless to open another thread about same "issue".
I have an Xperia Ray and with only 400Mo in internal storage it's not easy to install all that I want.
I moved all app to SD when possible, made some of them system app with TB, cleaned cache and data when possible.
My Ray (updated to ICS) is rooted and I installed the nAa's CWM 5.0.2.7 "recovery".
What is needed to partioning the sd card ? Is this possible with a locked bootloader ?

U can do it with a locked bootloader. Normally I would advise u use s2e but that wouldn't work on ICS.
Here's how u partition
Backup ur SD card
Boot into recovery
Select advanced
Partition SD card option
Select a size : recommended 1024
Select swap as 0. (32 if gaming)
Reboot
However u will need an app to move the stuff to the partition. Try link2sd
u can partition via recovery or via PC. try ad2sdx by amarullz for sd ext @babylonbwoy, are u wid stock kernel, cos these a2sd things are kernel related. and i dont think stock kernels support it.

Thanks guys.
Right...so I looked into what you were saying.
I ended up partitioning 1GB of my SD card and using it with Link2SD.
Everything was great, it created loads of space on my internal storage.
BUT...then I rebooted my phone.
After a lengthy 5 minutes boot up, I was presented with error upon error. I now have no space on my internal storage and the secondary partition on my SD card is all used up too...I guess Link2SD has somehow failed.
Any ideas?
do one thing just back up all the apps then reboot recovery n flash a stock rom with 2.3.6 xxkph/ddkq6 baseband n dnt use app 2 sd jus use stock app2sd given in manage applications........ good day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ur space will increaseor jus use optimizer 15 tools ..... pro version its an better option!!!!!!!!!!!!!choose what ever u like..................
Sorry for using same thread Red_Kop...

I tried with Rom Manager option "partition sd card", it didn't work. I had choice between 128MB-256MB-512MB (choosed 512) and swap size I choosed 0 and after 32Mb, but none worked. After rebooting everything was the same.
Then I tried rebooting recovery and setting size myself but it didn't work too.
U can't just do that. You have to use an app to move the data to the memory card. Try s2e if ur on gingerbread or link2sd if on ICS
Ok, I'm on ICS, thought that I have to prepare sd card before moving things.
I'm a total noob when it come to android, only few weeks using it.
First partition via clockwork, then install link2sd.
Link2sd will give u a move to SD option
Although we can move apps to sd with rooted device but it still comsumes some memory form mobile. Is it not possible to move apps to sd without any consumstion of internal memory?

I dont think so...
Partition your SD and use link2SD if you're on stock rom or a2SD / s2e if you're on custom rom. Still, all apps use a small amount of internal storage. Also check if your cache isn't too big, I've recovered up to 40 MB by clearing cache every few months.
You can use "S2E" from market and tick all option including the data one but you will get a decrease in performace. For data you must enter in definitions and tick advanced for accessing it.
I am using Miracale v4 by itasoulas and using link2sd to move apps to sd but if i download heavy size app or games it takes much more internal memory so, i'm running out of internal memory.
If i do partition of my sd card to install app separately will it also consume internal phone memory?

I have made partition of sd yet. Im thinking of making it if I get any solution.
I used Link2SD and now have over 100mb free internal space. I partitioned the sd card to ext3, 1024mb.... works like a charm, no performance issues.. widgets are recognized as well.

lol why should I? who cares anyway.
get titanium backup and use the "Convert to system app" option...this moves the app to free ROM memory...this should give you at least 25-45 MB user memory

Forum ma search kar bo topic 6 enu upar
i choose manual to move app to sdcard from settings(no use any app for this),20 hd games+17 casual games + 35 apps i still have 70mb free memory, maybe s2e gives more free space but it isn't stable, sometimes when i unplug my battery because of lags, then my apps are gone,link2sd is rubbish, they just give me 40 mb space and unstable like s2e.
sorry for my english

Absolutely true, the only thing good is that it still keeps the app fast (+ widgets) and no hassle on connecting USB
Useful for just those 4-5 apps one wants
Even in link2sd no hassle in USB class 10 sdcard so its super fast :-D

You need a rooted Ace for this? And custom ROM?
Guys,
Sorry to ask a noob question:
I know how to partition the SD card to EXT, but does these apps mentioned, Link2SD etc, working with stock rom? And uprooted phone?
Thanks.
Yes.
But you need follow the tutorials that are posted in the forum (hit search).
In stock roms u need (i guess) another kernel that support inid.d scripts.
The only reason i love cyanogen is because of s2e, after move dalvin on ed-ext i have 160 mb and with all my apps (20-+) i have 140mb.
I don't know if on stock u can do what s2e does but there are another tricks. (Link2sd) for exemple.
So we all know the Xperia 2011 internl storage is very low. On my Xperia Mini Pro, with CM9 installed (normally, the smallest rom out there), I'm struggling to install apps and keep my storage with at least 50mb free. I use the ZDBox app that has an APP2SD option for moving apps to the SD Card but that's still not enough.
Is there a way I overlooked ? In my old HD2 days, Apps2Ext was working very well. With a 1gb ext partition on your sd-card, you were good to go. However, "ext" doesn't seem to be a popular option around here.
Any idea ?
Thanks !
Link2SD
best for me

Hi
I confirm, link2sd is a life saver.
Link2sd FTW!
But ull lose ur apps if u format ur fone even though apps are in the sd card

Link2SD is the best method.
Format your sdcard:
2 partitions (primary) - 1 FAT32 (the main one), 2 EXT2 (for moving apps to 500-1000MB).
In my system I have 100-200 apps (internel storage -150mb free/ system-40 mb free).
All apps are linked to second partition on the sd card.
Important LEAVE launchers, widgets and root apps in internal storage!
Thanks guys! Will look into it this week-end...

link2sd is the best for me, its has many options, move app to system, unistall system app, clear cache, clear dalvik cache, and you can choose 1 by 1 were to install the app, sometimes i use it just to unistall some system app and clear dalvik ( when i flash a new rom) because you can use it without mount ext for that
Same here. The first app I install after a flash, is Link2SD and Root Explorer. Can't live without them.
Hi

Hi Everyone,
I would like to ask if You know with file system is used during preparing of sd card?
I'm using to create partitions on card CWM (6.0.2.7) from stock CM10 FXP203 kernel.
Created partition has 1GB but App2SD at first run not accepted ext2 saying that that file system might be unsuported.
My phone is Sony LwW with 32GB SD card. What I should select or do to order to work.
Thanks

You can't increase ram or internel storage.
But you can create ext partition and link apps there via link2SD
And you may try to use swap partition if you want.

Man. it is so easy.
Just create a small ext3 partition to link your apps there.
You need your SD card to be fat primary partition ( except some MBs to be ext3 partition. )
Use mini tool partition wizard or do it from the recovery which will be easier for you.
and swap is not so important , set it to zero if you want.
27gb fat32 1gb for ext2.. Fast as hell and heaven.. I got 270-300++ internal memory.. 200mb ram.. Feel like trying swap but i scared my sd dead.. Hoho

Hmmm....you need to make 3 partition for your SD card if you want to use swap.....
First partition is FAT32 (must be primary) this partition is for your main storage....
Second partition is ext2,ext3 or ext 4 (must be primary) this partition is for install apps that link using link2SD or Mount2SD....
Third partition is Linux Swap....this partition is for swap (increase ram/performances)
Now all partition size you will make is depend on how you want it....basically 256mb for linux swap is enough but 512mb is recommended is you have SD sizes 16GB and above....for second partition 1GB is enough for installing apps....if you planing to install plenty of apps then 2GB is recommended only if you SD sizes is 16GB and above....for the first partition is what sizes left after your make all partition needed....
remember Swap will not be available right after you have partition is....you need swap scripts to make is available....

Of course you can increase ram performance by increasing swap and can increase your internal storage by partitioning your sd card, but might decrease the read or write speed of your system as sd card is not as fast as internal memory of your phone
For detailed information just google around

hope can help u
first SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH . lol
im never login this account since 2 years ago.
to increase phone memory u can use application "LINK2SD" but, before u use it, i recommend u to make additional partition with ext2/4.
to increase ram maybe u can use with virtual ram. It not give big differents but for games it would be better.
i have MANUAL step to increase virtual memory ( such as adding secondary ram)
1. Download swap file ww*w.media*fire.c*om/?7pszmgi85sucuuc. Remove * . The password is "crescendo"
2. Extract it so from 800kb will be 800mb eace
3. Choose 1 from 3 files size for swap that u want ( up to you )
4. Copy file to /sdcard
5. U can type on "Terminal Emulator"
for example im using with 256mb size :
- to turned on swap
su
swapON sdcard/swap256
- to turned off swap
su
swapOFF sdcard/swap256
-) the green number can be changed and adjust it with size u want.
sorry if u dnt undestand. i cnt speak english well. lol

Hi everyone,
I bought a 64Gb memory card thinking to expand the internal memory of my Galaxy S3, I have Rooted my phone and installed the non-oficial Cyanogenmod 12.1 (which is great & works very good)
I wonder if I have to make an special partition in my card & if I can move the apps with Link2SD, or how is the procedure.
I was reading in different webs but now I'm confused now because there are different information. Even In some places they tell that is not possible, just if the Rom is original , that's the reason I decided to write here.
I hope someone can help me & thank's in advance.

I guess you should just make a partition at your sd card with partition magic (that is a pc program) then install the card and link2sd to your phone and you are ready.

Finaly after a long time I did it, but I was very disappointed because I hope my free ram increase but it wasn't & the phone speed was pretty much the same. And the worst thing was on the next day when after a final boot, it disappear from the phone all the apk's I have installed on the SD card. I couldn't believe it, so after all time lost. I delete everything & I put the Cyanogenmod again.
At the end, I had forgotten my plan and I will use my sd card to save my music & photos. -) Very bad experience. I hope some one could read it. Thanks for the answers. Ed

@edugarb: management of ext partition even needs more RAM. The only way to run LP on S3 smoothly is to keep the system slim.
