Download fxp044 install kernel, download nightly and flash thru cwm recovery.
And yes bootloader must be unlocked.
From my CyanogenMod NIGHTLY, Thanks to FreeXperiaProject-Team
thanks for the info but still don't know how to install cwm o_0
now if my phone is sim unlocked via htccode, should I use setool2??? to be honest the tutorial is not that well explained if you follow step by step literally

No don't unlock your bootloader with setool or setool2, You can't unlock your bootloader for now because your phone is sim unlocked with another tool
but if you want CWM I recommend you to first flash this rom by Cobrato which works on locked bootloaders:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327755
Pretty awesome rom
then follow this for having CWM:

lol i didnt get what you just said but um , you can unlock your bootloader then after that dont use the rsd lite to go back a version . so if your at 4.5.91 and you wanna unlock your bootloader then do it but dont flash back to earlyer versions like 1.83 or ect . Their are fruit cakes you can flash to go back or to go back to stock .

OK. I will download Automatic bootloader UNLOCK/ROOT for AT&T 1.26/1.57/1.83/4.5.91 [UPDATE 07/31/11] unlock and root my phone. Then install CWM download cyanogen *.zip and install it from SDcard. Am I right?
He understood what you were saying. He was just trying to tell you that downgrading after the OTA is how people have "hard" bricked their phones.
So:
1. Yes, you can unlock the BL (and install CM)
2. After you unlock the BL, never use RSD.

Make sure you use flash Romracer's recovery after you unlock the BL.

I should use Automatic bootloader UNLOCK/ROOT for AT&T 1.26/1.57/1.83/4.5.91 [UPDATE 07/31/11] ?
Yeah, if you have an AT&T branded Atrix you can use that. Just be sure to read the instructions carefully. Since you have the OTA already installed you will have to use Option #3 in the script after using Option #1 to unlock the BL. It will also ask you about flashing a recovery, go ahead and flash Tenfar's but after that go to the link I gave you (see above) and you can flash that recovery.

Hey man, I'm in the same situation as you were a few days ago, i have an ATT Atrix with the 4.5.91 OTA update, and I want to Unlock the bootloader.
I was wondering what method did you end up using and what do you reccomend.
And thanks for starting this thread! I'm sure it's going to help a lot of people in our same situation.
*EDIT: Couldn't wait for your response, so I went ahead and tried it myself: Works perfect.
Now my Bootloader is unlocked and my phone is rooted. Got that first-timer 4.5.91 soft-brick tho, not a fun experience that part, but using a script included in the tool I managed to get out of that situation.
Here is the link to the thread with the tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871
Hope this helps anyone that stumbles with this same question.
Hi i am new to xperia world. i have tried to install this rom <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640390>

MY quest is after 4.0.4 can i still update this ROM on my phone <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640390>

i have just bought new phone don't want to loose warranty as early as possible may be later i may dare to unlock it
i love developers who makes world look better place.. i am frequent visitor of xda from my first windows mobile since 3-4years ..
but i had very bad experience with z71 android handset which gave me lot of pain but i made full use of warranty period because there was no unlocking ..! just flashing lots of custom roms ..
but xperia is different i think i have to gain more confidence to start flashing.. because there will be no warranty once unlocked...
When you feel confident, you can Unlock you device by any method you prefer, follow the guide by following link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409269
P.S, using official method to unlock the boot loader, you will void your warranty, but using XDA method you will have option to relock the boot loader again
Hope, this will help

you're welcome,
that means you are qualify to unlock your boot loader,
its not Pre-Unlocked !
if it shows No, that means you cannot unlock boot loader due to Manufacturer restrictions.

my phone is already rooted can i oerclock by setcpu without unlocking or do sommething etc
I think, overclocking need other then stock Kernel, check Kernels thread, which suit your overclocking need.

bt it order to run any rom based on cm9 ... u need to unlock bootloader.... as these roms require a custom kernel

The risk of brick your device, but a lot of people already unlocked their bootloaders without any problems, your DRM will be permanently deleted, but believe me you can get more from your phone when the bootloader is unlocked, really worth it.

And you loose your warranty
Drm won't be lost if you unlock using testpoint method.
Regards
-N
First check the bootloader status.whether its unlocked or not.
If its already unlocked then you can flash any custom kernel. If not you have to unlock BL first. Its not harmful but it will avoid your phone warranty.Try to use SE web site to unlock BL.Its the safest way..
After unlocking BT u can flash kernels anytime using Flash toolâ„¢..
Re:How to install a kernel
To install a custom kernel, you have to unlock your bootloader and there are two ways of doing it:
1.Use the official sony method...
head to unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow the procedure there..
by doing so you lose your DRM keys which means services like track id wont work anymore...
2.use a testpoint method which is a bit complicated but you retain your DRM keys
for the testpoint method check this out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874
Bootloader unlocking should be done carefully, you might brick your phone if you are not careful..
after the unlock is complete you can use flashtool to flash a custom kernel in fastboot mode..

Sorry for no reply. Working on unbricking someone's phone. You need to install Att latest firmware. R you on pure stock now? If so don't worry bout if firmware has boot.img ....firmware might have stock recovery.img which will replace twrp if that Dev don't remove recovery like I do from my firmware. Any questions let me know. MAKE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP before you wipe phone in twrp an try an flash ROM.
