Gets asked a lot, but I'm just after some clarification as to how to get this to work
I recently rooted my Desire and installed Cyanogenmod, and now happily have a working version of Gingerbread on my phone.
Sadly, the GenieWidget (News and Weather) doesn't update unless I click on it. So I have stale weather and news for hours until I do so..!
Now, I've found some APKs that apparently work, but when I try to install I get an error saying "Application Not Installed".
From what I understand, this is something to do with the APK on the phone being signed by Google and the APK I've downloaded being signed by someone else (or basically just a general conflict in the signing of the apps).
Soooooooooo... anyone got any advice or directions as to how I can get a working News and Weather widget on my phone? It's one of my favourite widgets..!
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
CM7 has a functioning News & Weather widget.

Does it respect the refresh period for you? Because I can set it to update once an hour and 12 hours later the widget will still be showing old news and weather.
It only updates if I click on the widget itself, which wasn't what used to happen in 2.2 :|

Thanks guys.
Still get the "Application Not Installed" error when I try to install it onto the phone :|
I guess it's because it's a system app and has to be pushed there, right?

Hey guys,
Seeing as there are obviously some gifted people on this site and have worked magic for the HD2. I was wondering if anyone has tried/done anything with trying to change the tint or even color of the sun being used in on the home page. Sometimes the wallpaper chosen clashes with the the yellow/orange sun.
Like I said maybe it has been done...I have checked briefly and will keep checking past threads just thought I would try my luck
Thanks everyone

Yup, you can change the weather icons!
Frickin awesome!!!, my only problem was when I tried to load one I got "there is no file associated" error. Any ideas on what I have to do to install one of them?
THanks
Have you got Microsoft .net framework 3.5 installed ?
If not Google it and download the cab
I get the same error trying to open netframwork as I do the cab.."no application associated" Net framework should be downloaded to the phone and then opened to install like everything else correct?

There are screenshots of the smoked widgets in the thread if you click through to it, and I'm sure if you search G2 rom, google voice widget, you'll find screenshots of them too.
cheers,

Here it is: http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/08/30/google-voice-widgets-leaked-for-android/ theres a video included as well.
I flashed the Smoked Widgets zip and now I'm stuck in a soft reboot loop. Sigh. Not a full reboot, just keeps going to black screen, no network connection, starting up again, scanning memory card, wash-rinse-repeat. Can't open any apps or do anything before it reboots itself again.
You have to do each .apk
Don't use the flashable .zip!
I've gotten Twitter, News & Weather, & Pandora widgets to work
Trying to get the CalendarProvider, FaceBook, & Engadget widgets working, but no luck so far. If anyone does get them to work, I would love to hear what you did
I was stuck at the reboot after installing the Smoked zip as well. Reflashed to stock and then since I was there, installed Vibrant8. adb installed Twitter.apk. adb installer failed for the the Facebook.apk so I did a adb push for both the Facebook.apk and GenieWidget.apk.
All 3 apps loaded fine but when I tried to reboot the phone froze as it was loading up. I don't know if it is one of the apk's (Facebook?) that was causing the issue or Vibrant8 but it would be interesting to see if anyone with a Vibrant on 2.1 got the Facebook one to work after a reboot.
I'm on 2.1, and currently working on getting FB to work. I'll post my results and method later today (might wind up being more like very early tomorrow haha)
No need for this anymore. Google Voice is now officially updated on the market with the widgets. Version 0.4.1.26
Does this mean we can use GV without using our carrier minutes?

They were calling Google an idiot, not you. Funny, though.
Kind of hard to tell since grammar isn't being used. It changes the whole structure of the sentence.

I moved both apps to /system/app before pushing the modified apk's through adb and I had no problems.
Guys,
Please find Ice Cream Sandwich Gallery apps, just download and install. Enjoyyyyy... You may notice few force closes in the beginning but it is fine on the go...
These apps are only compatible with ICS

Hi thanks in first place....
My problem is that it want sync/show my picasa pics
Any idear?
Cheers
I've been pretty pleased with JustPictures (in the market). Its very fast and pulls in Picasa. There are also a few AOSP Gallery apps in the market that should do the trick
App works but lacks options you would normally get like setting lockscreen wallpaper..

Your download program changed the file extension to .zip, just rename it back to .apk and you're good to go.

What's the difference between the 2 APKs? Should both be installed?
Has anyone found a ICS Gallery APK that the EDIT feature works properly? I keep trying various ROM's ICS gallery edit feature to add FX, and it will screw up the picture

*stupid me for not reading a couple posts above*
thanks, OP
***UPDATE***
works like a charm, with 1 problem, Settings are all empty
too bad, the JB version on my Nexus7 actually pulls from my G+/Picassa images. i believe it should be in the settings.
either way, its way nicer than Moto's Gallery!!! THANKS!
***UPDATE***
checking up image details also crash the app.

problem: my default Camera still looks for moto gallery. other camera app still asks what app do i want to use to open, which is great. but default camera still opens up default gallery. if i freeze the old gallery, it just says "media app not installed". /sigh
stupid camera
just alternative choice. they have exactly same apps from market call "Gallery ICS". check it out.
FYI regarding only being compatible with ICS
I downloaded it for my Moto e5 play with Oreo.
It works perfectly.

Hey guy's,
I would like the youtube widget from GB back instead of the new ICS widget.
I extracted the 'com.google.android.youtube-2.apk' from a CWM gingerbread backup.
I delete the current youtube apk from the phone.
I installed the extracted youtube.apk to the phone.
Great, got the widget back.. but it crashes.. the GB version doesn't work on ICS
Anyone got a solution?
Regards,
~Trail.
I can't believe the rest of the world seems to like the new youtube widget...
hahahahahahahaha i think is a good widget i think that could be possible if you found some old Youtube apk and delete the new one and replace it with the old one...

Hi folks,
i just googled my ass off, thinking someone must have had the same idea that I just came up with. Unfortunately to no avail.
Is it possible to run some of the stock kindle apps on other devices?
The reason I'm askin is that I just saw my dad usin his KFHD7 calendar application and I liked it better than any other calendar app I've seen for Android.
Could anyone provide me with an apk? Does the kindle even use APKs for its stock apps? My father is unfortunately not a root-guy, so I cannot get the files from him. I'd really like to try it on my Asus tablet and on my HTC One X which both have similar display resolutions.
Thank you very much in advance guys, really appreciate your efforts.:good:
EDIT, see below: Answer is No. Apps do FC instantly. Please close topic

i simply deleted all my kindle apps, not deleted, moved to sd card them all and backuped them all without anty problem, my tablet work without them, but i think they dont work for other devices
Don't know but I've zipped up a few (Calendar & Email) if you want to test them, not sure if they rely on other resources or APKs?

@persano: I'm afraid I don't really get what you're trying to bring across - are you saying you backuped your kindle-apks and could provide me with the calendar? I'm not sure...
No offence intended - might be a langauge thing...
edit: @Gilly10: Thanks, I'll try them out right away!! :good:
edit2: Jeeeezz, seems as if my provider is slowing down media fire on purpose. couldn't even load the webpage on my pc. had to use my phone to get there. now the download of 10ish mb is taking ages. i hate it. 81% and pending /rant
OK. The file finally arrived.
The good thing is: My question's answered now.
The bad thing is: The answer is 'no'.
App FCs instantly, no matter if it's installed by tapping it or if it's put into /system/app with appropriate permissions.
Tried it on an HTC OneX with a custom Jelly Bean Mod. Could install it, couldn't start it.
Tried it on an Asus Transformer TF101 with Stock ICS. Couldn't install it at all (package name already in use).
Thank you for your quick help guys!
