Cdrom fs - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I'm about to buy the tab next week. (Well I am between this and iconia a500, but 3g is drawing me to the tab). Is there a way to implement on a kernel a cd-rom filesystem module? I have an external cd-rom and would like to try it using the USB adaptor.

[Q] Hooking up a USB keyboard to a Nook Tablet

It is my understanding that android natively supports usb. My question is, if I get a micro usb to usb adapter, and then plug in a usb keyboard, I would be able to use the keyboard to type documents. Any thoughts?
(I have a rooted nook, but I got the update before I could block them, will revert back soon)
currently no. The android or in this case nook skinned android kernel has to support usb host and usb keyboard inputs which it doesn't. But it probably will in the future when the devs release android 4.0, because ICS needs a different kernel then the current nook tablet kernel. But anyway what keyboard do you have, because you can only connect bluetooth keyboards and also only if the developers can enable bluetooth on the nook.
It also depends on the hardware support. I don't know if the TI chip has a host-only port, or if it supports OTG (On-The-Go) dual mode operation. It probably does, but I've not seen anybody verify that.
it doesn't support USB keyboards. I have a female USB to micro USB for my galaxy S2. I tried to get a USB sick and 2.4GHz mouse and keyboard on the nook but nothing worked, and yes it both works on my galaxy with the stock ROM

The NT can support usb gadgets and usb hubs but it need to be enabled in the rom and the must have the module, the NC has this feature and i hope our great devs can implement this on the NT.

im looking to use a usb 3g modem myself with my tablet ,
ive read a bit on the latest engadget article about the other older e paper nook that was done with a usb keyboard i even went as far as to contact the guy who did it and he told me what to look for , hardware wise to see if the NT could do it ,
yet without kernel support or the module being compiled into the kernel we have already on the tablet , theres not much hope , but i believe it can and will be done , if not im gonna have to get an ipad with a 3g data card in it cause i have to have data access wifi hotspots just not cutting it..

I use a 64gb Flash drive formatted to FAT32 thru one of those cheap ebay usb adapters and it works fine. Comes up as UsbDriveA.

Supposedly you can, however, in order to accomplish this, first the external HDD would have to be formatted in FAT32, or possibly EXT2/3/4; something which is natively recognized by the 7.7 Also, since the USB adapter only supplies a minimum amount of power (150mA I think), the HDD would have to be externally powered, either by its own power adapter, or by connecting through a powered USB hub (assuming the hub also has enough power to run the HDD).
It didn't recognize my external 500GB NTFS drive. I have a spare that I can format with FAT32 and will try that just for grins if I get a chance tomorrow. Otherwise, meh.
Update: I tried this with an external USB (self-powered) drive formatted in FAT32 and I got an error message saying "High Powered USB Device Connected: Cannot connect to...."
Not a big deal at all, really.
Just received a Corsair 128GB flash drive(Flash Voyager) today that I bought on Ebay for $45 . It was formatted to exFAT,which is Microsoft's newest file system, rather then FAT32 and allows files bigger then FAT32's 4GB max file size.
It works great on the 7.7 so exFAT is supported and even plays HD movies and lets you transfer files to the 7.7 and back.
I already had the 30pin to usb adapter.
Hi,
Great news. Thank you 7harper
Could you please post the ebay link from which you've purchased the key. I can't even find 128GB flash drive for this price. Thx !
are the usb connection kit for 8.9 and 10 inch abs compatible with p6800 ?

Yes, as are any of the other accessories which use Samsung's 30-pin connector.

How did you manage to get the 7.7 to read/write exFAT formatted disk? I can't seem to make it work here. Tried both Asian and European ROMs but in vain. Can anybody else who has a USB connector with an exFAT stick confirm this?
Thanks.
Hey...
Just wanted to let everyone know that a USB A Male to A Female won't really help much...
For a matter of fact it won't do anything... it's like an elongation cable of 8cm which is crap!!! I guess I wanted to get a Female-Female but came out a bit of a retard...
I wanted to use the 30pin to USB cable, connect it to a Female-Female converter and shove my other USBs on the other end.... wondering if that will work....
Anyhow that's just my 2 dimes...
have a nice day,
SK.
exFat doesnt work on micro sd cards in built-in slot so I guess it won't work on any other medium...
You can use any kind of mass storage and file sistem, nfts works too check my tutorial in the general topic, you can mount a nftsnhard disk drive (selg powered) and read write it from p6800

Have you actually been able to do that with a powered USB harddrive? I got an error message saying "high powered device" when I plugged one in to the Tab.

I have tried three different external hard drive assemblies ( one desktop, two portable) all with external power applied. One of the portables always triggers the High Power Device shutoff. So I think it depends on the drive box interface electronics.

Just want to reconfirm that the OEM Samsung USB & SD Connection Kit for Samsung Galaxy Tab will work for our 7.7?
I read that it is not supported for the original 7.0 and the 7.7 tablet - directly from the Samsung store.
Would be really sweet if it does work.
What I want to do is have it read my SD memory card.
Anyone?

I got it! I've tested it out and everything seems to be working out. However, I can't seem to get my 128 GB SD to be recognized with the SD Adapter.
It comes up as "SD card blank or unsupported filesystem"
I've formatted the card to NTFS and ext4 to no avail.
Any suggestions?
Edit: I got Fat32 to work with my 128 GB SD card. With the limitation of Fat32, I won't be able to transfer a file larger than 4 GB. Anyone how to get around this issue?
As stated by someone else earlier in this thread, try formatting with exFAT.
Is there anyway to connect 2.5 external HD?
I mean, using external power kinda defeat the purpose...

yes, also to use a ps3 controller wired (no root required) to move in the menus or use on emulators.
also you can use pc keyboards and mouses. Hds and a lot of stuff including usb hubs to connect more stuff at the same time.

It will get automatically recognized, mounted and scanned.
Even the file manager will automatically run and open the files.
Only works for fat32 formats, just so you know

That is for automatic mount only. Other file systems will work and will be recognized, but have to be manually mounted.
Using the USB OTG adapter I have been able to use my Galaxy S II and S III with:
- Logitech Wireless rumblepad adapter
- 500Gb, externally powered HDD (NTFS file system)
- flash drives up to 32Gb in FAT32, NTFS, ExFAT (S III only), ext2 and ext3
- connect the S III to the S II, using the S II as removable media
- etc

I can also confirm the USB adapter works, i've successfully used an 8GB flash drive, Tried a 2TB NTFS ext HDD it picked it up but said it was unrecognised haven't tried a smaller drive but glad to know you've been able to confirm it can read a 500GB ext drive, I have installed XMBC and have a spare 500GB hdd so going to test some movies
You can get the adapters from eBay quite cheap
Its supposed to support a 500GB non externally powered HDD

It's supposed to only support OTG-certified devices. All other devices may or may not work. Especially hard drives have lots of differences in terms of power consumption so one model may work while another does not. Powered disks work fine all the time.

That's because it's NTFS. Stock ROM does _NOT_ provide support for NTFS, only for Fat32!
If you want NTFS support you need to either root and manually load the NTFS module or use a kernel with built-in NTFS support such as Siyah.

I guess you are mistakenly consider Dual-Role support instead of real OTG. There were / are no USB OTG certified device on the market.

[Q] Archos Cobalt 80 USB Bluetooth

Noobys first post.
I bought a cheap Tesco Archos 80 Cobalt and have sucessfully rooted installed CIfs and got a working OTG Cable that can read an Iomega HDD, Intenso Flasg drive, Dell keyboard adn HP mouse.
I have a poundland bluetooth dongle and was hoping it would work straight off. It doesn't. (Although it works on my Ubuntu machine)
For cifs I had to install some drivers and was hoping softhing similar would get it working.
I'm not sure if it is the Cambridge chipset or not.
I'm a bit hesitant about try and entirely new ROM.
Any suggestion/insults?

OTG Functionality?

Any of you lucky HDX owns know if it supports USB OTG (MicroUSB to normal USB)? I've seen some specs saying it does. If so:
Does it support a USB keyboard/mouse?
Does it support Mass Storage? (Flash Drives/Card Readers)
If #2, what file systems? FAT, NTFS, exFAT?
I just hook up the USB 2GB thumb drive, it's a no go.

Regarding #1, Bluetooth keyboard/mouse now work (I believe only keyboard worked on previous gen).

I was wondering if a USB keyboard would. A number of tablets (e.g. Nexus) don't directly support USB flash, but do support USB keyboards.
It is good they are supporting Bluetooth.

dslr controller
Has anyone connected any of the hdx tablets to a cannon dslr?
You have found a very outdated thread., but information is still valid. Will not work, because no OTG
Btw, my friend confirmed that otg works with stick mount pro 3.26 on New Fire HDX 8.9 (Saturn)
