[Q] Kindle app recovery - Defy Themes and Apps

Hi there, I tried to update kindle on my rooted stock 2.2 Tmobile US Defy and I couldn't, thus I removed it from the system app, but that still did not work. Now I cannot get the kindle app to install from anywhere (market, amazon, even download several apk's of the web).
Can anyone please make a backup of Kindle 1.0.2-OEM-SingleSign.apk and post it here?
Also, does anyone know how to update the darn kindle?
Thanks!

[Q] Kindle for Android

D/L Kindle for Android and installed it. Problem - I have a bunch of kindle format books on the sd card but I can't access them with the app. Anyone got an idea when I should place the (.mobi) files so the app can see them????
Solution.
Yeah, I had the same prob a couple days ago.
1) Download and install the Kindle app
2) Put the books in the "kindle" directory on your SD card
3) Go to Menu->Manage Applications->Amazon Kindle then click on Clear Data
4) Load up the Kindle app again. All your books should be under "On Device"
I can't seem to find the Kindle app in my Market. Anyone has this problem?

[Q] Is DroidLoad.org a safe way to get APK's?

I am wanting to find a safe way to get the latest Google Gmail .APK file so that I can load it onto a device that doesn't have access to the Android Market (Kindle Fire).
Google took me to this page: http://gmail.droidload.org/
I am leary of rogue APK files, especially with something that will ask for my google account login info.
Is there a "safe" way to get the APK's for Google's Apps?
Thanks,
Doug
PS Yes, I know that the Kindle Fire is Rootable and that Android Market can be installed that way. I'm NOT interested in that ... Just looking for the APK. Thanks...
PSS If getting the APK won't work for the Kindle Fire, please let me know. I was able to get APKs for other apps like Opera Mobile via Handango and use them on the Kindle Fire...
No thoughts, no comments, no feedback?
Did I post this in the wrong forum?
Thanks...
Hashing is a good method to know if a file hasn't been changed... That site says hash is 574BEE40D022C0CFFD4698288CD03EBF (and I advise you to manually check anyway...).
Someone with the original apk pulled from the market should tell you what his hash is, and if they match, you just got a clean copy of the gmail.apk !
That could be an effective way to spot modified apk from originals, but sadly there is no md5 available for all (usually on the devs site)... and I haven't found any trace of that for Gmail app.
And I don't even use market, so I can't tell you...
Last note, that site is offering 2.3.5 (29jul) and latest is 2.3.5.2 (1oct)

not sure that android market is working on kindle fire

my kindle fire is rooted and i've sideloaded a number of apps that seem to work but android market might not be entirely...the apps i've tried to download directly through android market on my fire and the ones i've tried to install through the android market online all force close.
is there something i might have missed?
thank you any feedback.

Facebook application for NT

Hi Guys,
I am trying to find Facebook and Twitter Application for NT.
Even though i have widget for both, i am looking for Application.
Can somebody help me with Apk..
Cheers!!!!
Im looking for this as well so I will be watching for an answer.
Thanks
Are you guys looking for THE Facebook app, because AFAIK, it does not work on the NT. I don't know about the official Twitter app. I use Tweetdeck (sideloaded from my phone).
I should have said the "roooted" NT
Try this for Facebook
http://db.tt./5z5nuhLG
you have to use an older version for it to work

No you don't, I have the latest versions of both and they're running flawlessly.
I'll post the apks in a sec.

I've attached the apks.
Flawless Victory! Facebook app works and Widget too! TY for this.
FYI: The newest versions of both apps work on the NT. The market just won't allow you to download them [another reason I'm returning this thing.] You need to sideload the apks.
even if you went with the KF, your stuck with 8GB without expansion....worse screen, more fragile, etc

Actually, I sideloaded those apks before I rooted, and they wouldn't work once I'd rooted. I went into the Market and replaced them with the Market versions and they work just fine.
@Torrential91
Did you lift the Twitter .apk from a rooted device and if so...what directory was it hiding in?
I spent 45 minutes this morning looking in my old Hero and couldn't find it. I came here to to get the treasure map and you have just delivered the treasure.
Thanks!
any idea where the Google+ .apk might be?

Thanks Torrential91 - downloaded and installed both. Facebook works great, twitter wouldn't install. Do you know if I need to edit the file name to remove the % etc?

@deralaand
I actually downloaded it from the internet, so no. Haha.
And for the twitter app, you shouldn't have to...but go ahead and try and let me know what happens.

EDIT: For those of you who are rooted, I just made a thread in this forum on how to install apps that aren't showing up in the marketplace. Maybe that will help as well.
I'm still getting FC's from the com.facebook.katana-2.apk.
Anyone else experiencing this/fixed it?

Are you trying to use it on a rooted NT? Which root did you use?
This time around I'm using the Snowball root.
Yeah, snowball-mod has some issues with Facebook and the XDA app... I'm looking into it now.
Hi,
I downloaded the apk via your link above from the browser on my rooted NT (basic root using Indirect's latest instructions), and the download completed. But when I select it (to install it) my Nook says "Cannot open file."
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Do not use the built-in file explorer. It was designed to prevent people from sideloading applications. Check out "ES File Explorer".

[Q] Install only some apps to new android device

Hi,
I had an HTC incredible S and later I got a Kindle Fire. I flashed CM7 to kindle fire and when I set my google account in Kindle Fire it started downloading all apps I installed on the HTC. I stopped this action and installed the ones I wanted manually.
Is there a way (from a PC or directly from the device) to select a group of my apps and install them when I buy a device or reflash a rom?
I know backup programs can do it, but I don't see the point of storing app backups on the sdcard, while I already have them on the market in my account. (Maybe I'm wrong)
