Hey
I was on GingerReal1.4, and wanted to try out overclocking on CM7. Made a backup on CWM and then installed CM7, tried, happy and decided to go back.
Now when I try to restore the backup, most of my apps arent being detected and the launcher is back to touchwiz and I can't seem to find superuser also. I assumed this maybe because sd-ext is not being detected. So I tried installing a2sd-gui from my titanium backup, that seems to work and isn't showing me any problem. I also tried reinstalling the kernel, didn't work.
And Ive tried restoring about 5 times till now, same result.
Am I doing something wrong?? Any help would be rly rly awesome...
Thanks

Did you format all partitions in CWM before restoring ?

I think flashing the darktremor script may work.

You mean the script given here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197 ?
Tried that, didn't work.
Even apps that were preinstalled on the ROM like ext4manager and Gmail are missing!!!
Thanks a lot guys
Then logically the problem is in that backup.
yea, that's what I'm thinking, though I did not get any errors while doing the backup.
I read about someone else having a similar issue a long tym back in the galaxy s forum, and i dont see any suggestions or solutions there.
Anyway, given up for now, will take care of it some other tym...
Backing up all i got and switching to CM now.
Do let me know if something pop's up and you remember this issue of mine.
Thanks again
No.. The backup is not the problem. I have read somewhere that the problem lies with the bootloader.
When you upgrade to CM 7, it uses the 2.3.7 bootloader. And now you are trying to restore a backup associated with a 2.3.4 bootloader. The restore does not contain the bootloader. Thus you may experience a bootloop.
The only get around is to flash via odin.
Hit thanks if i helped.

The restore does restore boot .
It erases boot before restore and will restore .

What do you mean when you say you cant root anymore because you have CWM? Rooting and CWM are on separate tracks in this case, CWM does not stop you from rooting your phone. Are you saying you dont want to root?
Also, rooting is very simple, just change your kernel to cf-root(to be flashed via CWM, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197 ) and you get added advantages like ext4, BLN, a2sd support etc.
PS: Read all you can before doing anything

It ain't rocket science, and as long as you got busybox and xrecovery installed, there is little you can do wrong..
It's all pretty neat explained in the ROM threads

hey man, you can actually use xRecovery to backup your phone (create a backup) that can be restored at a later date. This way you can backup, flash a new ROM to play/test with, then restore your original ROM when done.
Note: you will NOT be able to restore contacts/apps/settings into the test ROM with this method, for that you will need to use something like My Backup Root before flashing the test ROM.
hope that makes sense

@mrtim123 thanx, now i understand what xrecovery is for, i thought thats what titanium back is for because i backed up when i upgraded to .435. My contacts are synced to my laptop so i can get them back thats ok.
Ive installed the flash tool on my laptop, now i gotta find the CM Installation thread to install.i hear that the CM ROM makes your phone faster and battery lasts longer, will my apps need to be re installed again from xrecovery or will they remain on the phone with the new CM ROM?

You have to do a full wipe before installing the new ROM.
That means you have to reinstall/restore your apps.
And it would be better not to restore data via xrecovery, you can get force close or maybe you have to flash the ROM again
I prefer restoring via an app like titanium backup or my backup root.

hey man, when you flash a ROM using xRec (and do full wipe) the first time you boot your phone is like when you first get the phone - no non-standard apps, no contacts, no anything (except what is on your sd card). you will be able to restore apps that you backed up using MyBackupRoot or Titanium backup though, once you have booted into the new ROM.
have fun!
btw - click on CyanogenMod link in my signature for the thread on Wolfbreaks CM rom
Im running [CM 6.1.3]scamble[v1.2] and it runs super smooth. There are alot of good ROMs out there though. Flash, test, and choose one that works for you. Happy Flashing
Hi guys!
Sorry if this already has posted but i couldnt find.
We just love to flash, update roms but sometimes we forget the essential and wanna go back.
So my question is: is there a way to backup and save from a original stock Atrix, things like pds, kernel, webtop, do a whole full backup of everything?
You mean like a Nandroid backup?...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
if you do a nandroid backup from cwm or rom manager it will back up everything on your current rom.
Thanks a lot for your attentio guys!
Doing these backup, even system unique files like pds, kernel, webtop, boot?
yes, its kinda like a ghost backup for a pc. it takes an image more or less.

I think nandroid backup requires root and if you want to flash another rom you'll have to unlock the phone.

Hum, thanks but to flash another rom i dont need to. I can enter in RSD and flash it without doind anything. Only if i had to flash in fastboot prompt i will need to.
hi all gurus,
any one know of a way to do a COMPLETE backup of the kernel / rom /firmware etc from an ACE? as i have two ACEs (one with issue, but i felt it is not morally right to return it back to the retailer). so i am looking for ways can do a complete backup of one phone then using it to restore on another ACE.
so far i tried CWM backup (appears it only backup the ROM, but not kernel such as modem (??)), SGS kernel flasher (can backup kernel, but not able to restore it, either from SGS kernel flasher itself, or from CWM)
so how else i can do a complete image of the phone (i mean complete image of all components), and then can be used to restore?? thanks for all info shared
180 views, waiting....thanks
Okay, let me start by saying I am no expert. If I had a second phone I would try for you, but I don't.
I have several backups through CWM at different dates using different Kernels and even different versions of CWM. With each restore it brings back the different version of CWM, baseband, and the Kernel I had installed.
Just some food for thought with your situation. Have you tried placing the backup's under the directory for CWM backups on your other phone and flashing? Maybe backup the good one, and flash it onto the broken one.... that way you are not risking anything if a problem arises??
thanks, nice to see a fellow Telus user here, . yes, i tried to do a backup from CWM (appears it backup the boot and system), then load it back via CWM through restore, it did not work out, how to confirm if cwm backup will also include the kernel portion?

You need a custom recovery to flash roms such as cm7. It is also used to make a backup of your phone and wipe the data on your phone. How is it that you've flash cm7 (which means that you've also used your recovery before) yet you don't know the purpose of having a recovery? I think you're going way to ahead of yourself.
Sent from my LG-P509 using xda premium
I'm guessing it's more of a case of he's flashed cm7, using the recovery to do so, but doesn't understand the behind-the-scenes procedures that go into the actual flashing.
you need to read the sticky thread if you dont know basics
Think of custom recovery as the basic setup/installer tool for anything and everything related to custom ROMs, kernels, etc. .
kdz and lgdrm are only for stock(OEM)/official releases.
The reason you need it, because it's the only way to do it and carrier's don't give you access to change your ROM. Does Microsoft put mod chips/software in xbox 360? No, hell no, they only give you limited access and regulate what content can be yours.
Custom recoveries come with features that you normally can't do, like nand(full phone backup) backup.
It's this way because that's how it has to be done.

Just because your phone is "rooted" dosent mean you can install a rom like a app, you need to use clockwork mod, why do you need it? you need it because it allows you to perform actions that you couldn't do on a stock phone. With clockwork mod you can back up your system files, restore system files, install new roms for use or testing. If your phone is just "rooted" all it means is you can now access system files, use certain "root required" apps, being rooted is step #1 to installing clockwork mod, its like your phone is unlocked, if you just want your phone rooted to delete some system apps thats fine, but it is wise to flash clockwork mod because it can prevent your phone from being bricked and now you can install roms. so the answer is pretty simple, how else would you install a rom without clockwordmod? you couldnt so its just one of those things you need, hope this helps man

apart from all this custom roms come packed as zip files n kdz updater or lgdrm doesnt recognize these files so u need to hace custom recoveries like cmw or twrp or amonra

I don't think that you could do that... since the phone doesn't even come with CM7 in the first place. Doing a factory reset / restore wouldnt bring the phone to stock CM7. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't it bring the phone back to FroYo since that's what it came with?
CM7 is already a custom ROM so there is nothing stock about it... Stock means whatever the phone came with from the box (FroYo) CM7 is Gingerbread.

If your running cm7 or any rom you can do a factory/reset through the rom your using, it will just erase all info but wont delete the rom and it will delete apps so when you reboot you will have to set up Google account like a new phone, cm7 will still be installed and your current rom it will just be like new, to do a factory reset go to settings, security then hit factory reset, reboot and then back to a clean start on cm7 there will be a option to erase everything on the SD card, hit no if you want to keep all files on your SD or hit yes if you want it all gone, goodluck p.s the only way you can go back to stock is to flash a stock rom and if you made a backup of your stock rom before you flashed cm7

Maybe there is already an answer to this, have been searching for a while.
And my phone has been off for 4-5 months but i wanna try again.
Its softbrick, boot loops but i have cwm 5.0.2.3 that i installed after that happend.
The thing is that i dont wanna lose my data so im wondering if its possible to update the firmware without loosing data?
and where can i get the 4.0 ics or atleast earlier versionens as a file to download then put in the memorycard ?
regards
edit: is there a way to backup everything atleast with cwm? i know there is backup and restore but i think that didnt backuped everything last time a tried.
Check out any of the custom rom threads, or if you want stock, check out intratech's thread, flash it and your bootloop will be gone. Good luck.
Edit: No, there's only the backup/restore option.
