Carriers in India? - HTC Amaze 4G

Alright, random question. I'll be traveling to Sri Lanka in the coming months, and I'm curious to see which carriers in the area will support my unlocked Amaze. Anyone have any ideas?

I have an Amaze, and was just recently in India. I didn't get a local SIM or anything, but my phone roamed on the Airtel network while I was there. I never made any calls, as the roam rate is a ridiculous $3.59 a minute. Ended up using Skype on hotel wifi, could have really used the upcoming WiFi calling update.

[Q] WiFi Calling in Europe? How much will it cost? Does it work outside the USA?

I love WiFi calling at home since we are at the fringe of service {Thank you Froyo!}, but how will it work when we travel to Europe? Can I connect to any "open" WiFi network and make voice calls? How will I be billed? Will a call made in France to the USA be just taken out of my bucket of minutes? Will it be considered International roaming at $1.29 a minute in France? What if I make a local call in France from a France WiFi connection? How will that be billed? I've talked with my local T-Mobile store rep. and he said he was recently in Mexico and could not connect to any local WiFi networks for phone calls. Anyone else have this experience elsewhere OR have you successfully used WiFi calling outside the USA? Of course I plan on getting a local SIM, but I may be switching it a lot if WiFI calling on Tmobile will be a local call back to the USA.
Has anybody tried using WiFi calling outside the USA??? Any help will be appreciated since TMobile doesn't seem to know for certain.
International WiFi Calling
Yes, it works well. i use it all the time in Europe (as well as Asia). Lately, I have been buying a local data sim putting it in a spare android phone with hot spot capability and carrying it around with me. My phone is registered via wifi and 3g to t-mo so all calls in the US are out of my bucket with no additional charges.
Have you tried to make local European Calls while on WiFi? If so were you charged the long distance rate from the USA or the roaming rate of $1.29 a minute in most European countries?

Have you used a local SIM in Japan? With a Vibrant? I'll be in Tokyo in April and am researching data plan options.
Since the Vibrant has tethering and wifi calling with 2.2 a reasonably priced SIM and data plan would be just the ticket.
Thanks.

@tonybhoy, what area of the UK are you in?
i rang orange today...
i was informed that they "are currently" rolling out hspa+, from now, over the next few months, and its starting to take affect.
the guy told me that the speed bands available on H+ will be 7.2mbps, 14.4mbps, 21mbps and 42mbps, but realistically, 99% of the time, you'll hit 7.2-21 bands.
he said he wasnt made aware if the network masts and software/firmware on them would be gradually updated and then activated nationwide all at once or if it would be rolled out area by area... though i would literally put money on it being gradual, their network would be hit so hard if it happened all at once, and potentially recieve no end of issues... also, the orange/tmobile 3g share was rolled out area by area, so it would make sense for them to follow suit....
so i ask again, out of interest, where has it already been updated?

Signal loss on EE UK S3s?

I'm based in NE England and work in an office with 5 other S3 users all of which are on EE. 2 bought Sim free phones and use an originally Orange Sim, one has a branded Orange phone and one has a branded TMobile one. The other person has a Tmobile 4G phone. The only one that isn't stock is one of the Sim free phones (mine)
All but the 4G phone lose signal several times a day but show 3 bars. There is no data connection and the phones cannot make or receive calls. If they are reset or toggled between 3G & 2G then they work again for a while.
This behaviour happens at work and at home. No other phone user has this problem - there are a few iphone & non smartphone users who gloat constantly
Anyone else suffering as badly as us?
All fine here. Sim free phone under TM contract.
Under carrier it says either TM/Orange never EE for some strange reason.
Exynos SIII; CM10.1
why not post in the help section?
Try different modems and make sure ril/modem match
Here's your answer: EE sucks!!
Lots of people reported signal loss on many different devices, I'll blame EE not S3s.... I've got one of my phones on Orange and since EE showed up, I'm experiencing signal problems as well. Many times people trying to call me, my phone shows full reception but is unavailable and voice mail kicks in!!!! It's annoying but this behaviour is a Network fault. Nothing to do with phone imho.
The only thing you can check is Baseband version (modem) of all phones and compare to the one which works fine. Maybe all except one have wrong modems installed. Unlikely but can happen
Next time use Q&A section to post your problems or questions..

Has everyone changed their APN to 'everywhere'? No signal problems here in the south - getting four bars, H+ and 12Mbps data speed.
I'm in the south also, no problems here, in fact excellent!
I get bandwidth issues and signal drops. Been on orange & tmobile for years and it only became an issue with the arrival of EE.
Most of the time the signal/speed is great tho.
I'm north west UK
Worth trying one check correct network settings and two try different modems .

Only receiving Edge in China

My wife and I are currently visiting China and fortunately T-Mobile rolled out the unlimited texting and data roaming 2G. I'm right beside her getting only E while she has 2G, what gives? I'm rooted she is not, I don't think that would matter.

There could be multiple reasons. For starters, I'm not sure you would get 3G, because I'm assuming the free data is the slowest speed possible. That being said, and I could be wrong, the main difference you are seeing there I am assuming is because you are on different carriers. T-mo uses GSM technology for 2G, and there are two carriers in China that use GSM, China Mobile and China Unicom. My experience with the two generally has been that China Mobile has better signal everywhere. It's kinda like the AT&T and T-mobile of China. So a possible explanation would be that you are on China Mobile's network and she is on China Unicom, which would potentially explain the difference. Of course, it could also just be a coincidence that this happened. I have seen friends sit right beside me with an HTC One and get 4G while my LTE is running with full bars....
Thank you for the tip! I changed the preferred carrier to China Unicom on my HTC One and the icon went to H. I saw my wife's One was also on the other network so I selected China Unicom as well and hers changed to 4G. Though we're not getting the normal speeds it seems to better.
Are we really receiving 2G though the phones say otherwise, like the iPhone 4 says iPhone 4 says 4G but is really only capable of 3G speeds?

Hello,
From what i understand E=2G, so my question would be are one of you running a custom rom, perhaps from a european base(more likely you)? The way data is scalled is simple with T-Mobile, although they change a few things to make it better. This is generally how it goes. Hope this helps.
GPRS(G)=1G
EDGE(E)=2G
3G=3G
HSPDA+(H)=4G

O2 Uk 4g

Good evening good fellowes... I just wanted to post this and check it out with others...
Day before yesterday I got a text message from O2 saying they were sending an update for my APN's to connect to 4g. I'm on a 3g tarrif so thought nothing of it. Next day, there was a config update for network settings which I applied. Am on the road for a couple of days and noticed 4g popping up here and there with some pretty respectable speeds.
Phoned O2 who said they've upgraded me for free to 4g which lets face it is very unlike them! Anyone else had this? Have they done it for all customers?
I'm with EE and I asked them if they could switch over to a 4g sim and they said yes and then I got another 3g sim ._.
I'd just like to point out Im on a 24 month contract with an S3 and recently got a xperia z ultra
