Opera Mobile unstable as hell? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else had a problem with the Opera Mobile browser frequently freezing on the S2? I had to uninstall Dolphin HD as it was causing spontaneous reboots, but Opera Mobile seems even worse.
I'm running stock XWKI4 (2.3.4), upgraded via Kies and rooted.

No, works perfectly and is the only browser I use.

Which firmware/ROM are you running?

Works ok for me except not able to view videos in it.always shows a black box instead. Both versions of opera very stable other than that.

Opera has been rock solid for me. If you can't view flash, it's likely because you tried to use titanium backup or alike to integrate adobe flash into rom. It breaks the flash functionality sometimes. So you want to uninstall adobe flash then install again.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

Didn't work which is a pain. Just uninstalled flash instead. Opera is by far the best browser so far except for that small issue.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Did you check your settings to see if flash is off? You can choose on demand, off, on. If I recall rightly it defaults to on demand and then you click on a video you want to see in the browser itself on order to view it. I leave it that way, most embedded video I have no interest in.

Odd that it's just me that has this problem. I just tried rebooting, then opened Opera Mobile again, hit the Guardian mobile news site and it froze a few seconds after bringing up the first article. Completely un-usable. Opera Mini is fine however
???

check opera mobile/mini thread. Yesterday there somebody described the same issue on sgs2, so you are not alone.

Opera mobile

Anybody using Opera Mobile with their flyer? I was wondering how it performs against the stock browser and whether or not you can view flash video with it.
I personally don't like the stock browser. Opera mobile performs better then it but Dolphin Browser HD is the best for the Flyer in my opinion

It is all I use
I'm an avid Opera fan, so Opera Mobile is a no brainer for me, it runs smooth, and after modifying the User Agent to desktop it makes for a great browsing experience - imo
Its free, so why not just try for yourself?

Opera Mobile digests and processes everything you browse, then sends it to you right? Is it possible to turn that behavior off?

Yes I am aware. It just appears that most of the browsers out there are not fully honeycomb compatible. I switch HTC browser out for stock honeycomb I like the feel better

I too have not been able to find the perfect browser for honeycomb.
So far dolphin is the best
Boat browser:
Great for GB
Crashes and slow in HC
Maxthon:
Slow flash support
Can't login to certain proxy sites
Dolphin HD
Fast flash
Many links don't do anything until you hold and click open or save
Opera:
Flash doesn't work
Stock:
Loads many pages in mobile view despite setting
All browsers:
White-screen slow refresh when pinch zooming
Laggy text input into online forms
Opera - work best on hc.
Stock - slow render & slow flesh.
Maybe I'm not understanding but I have no problem running flash on HC and Opera Mobile. I have tried all the browsers and keep coming back to Opera. Just today I have viewed numerous flash based sites and flash videos.
Looks like first honeycomb version of oper has lacks of flash support. But now everything ok.
Opera works fine
I've been using Opera for a few days now and it works fine. No issues with flash. I liked Firefox better, but they stopped supporting the tablet.

That option is called Opera Turbo. Its function is to provide compressed data to the browser to minimize data consumption, every request of the browser passes through an Opera server that compresses the data stream before sending it to your device. You can activate or deactivate it at will with Opera Browser, it's deactivated by default when you install the browser. Opera Mini is the one that doesn't have the option to switch Turbo off.
To me is the best browser by a fair margin, using desktop agent option and flash working great. I also love the option of the EXIT button to close and really unload the program from memory, every browser should have this option to avoid battery drain from pages that auto actualize in the background.

BBC news website embedded video issue

I've been trying to play video on BBC news website with no success. The loading circle just rotates forever. Funny thing is when I first got my sgs2 it played no problem whatsoever. Also BBC iplayer main website won't let me access it, says my phone not supported. Once again I think I could access it before I upgraded from 2.3.3. Java is enabled in my settings and plugins are allowed. I'm unrooted on stock voda 2.3.5. Anybody else sufferring from this problem?

All working fine here... do u have flash installed OK?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Yeah, running latest version of flash downloaded from market. Using stock browser. Tried uninstalling flash updates, but made no difference. The red ring just keeps whirling round forever and video never plays. All very odd. Every other site I've tried video works fine e.g. sky news, t3, stuff TV, itv news, gadget show. Even BBC one watchlive worked. I guess it must be my settings somehow? But i've no idea what exactly.

Yes, I have the problem as well. It was one of the good things about the S2 that I could watch all the BBC news videos. I guess the BBC have changed something.
I have just tested and it now works OK using Dolphin HD Browser (and you can watch full screen unlike on the stock browser)
Also the videos work on the official BBC news app
I agree, the first thing I checked in shop on demo gs2 was flash playing video on BBC news website. The speed and smoothness really impressed me. Coming from HTC legend ARMv6 where flash was crap, it helped make my decision to buy gs2 final. At least now I know someone else has this issue and shares my disappointment.
Good to know it still works with dolphin hd though. But for me I'd rather stick to stock browser because if hardware acceleration. So the fact it doesn't work anymore is pretty frustrating.:-(
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
i have solved this problem by using an older version of adobe flash that i still had backed up in titanium backup. but i don't know if thats the best solution since then you won't get the newest versions and security fixes.....
Using titanium backup to roll back flash might be an option. Although i'm pretty sure I would need root. Interestingly I have uninstalled all flash updates back to 10.1 and it made no difference. So maybe flash isn't the problem?

Can you give me a link to try?
I know that the bbc have recently moved over to HTML5 video content.

This is probably the issue though I have surfed through the site and it is all working for me.

Interesting article. I presume you want the link to the web page I'm having trouble with? It's just the BBC news front/home page.

If I've picked you up wrong let me know.
Also as I stated earlier BBC iplayer (WEBSITE) says my phone isn't supported. Does that also work for you? Thanks for your input

Best Browser For the S3

Done a search but nothing of relevance came up in these forums.
Just got my phone today and so far just using the stock browser which seems ok but undoubtedly there are better browsers out there, i always used X-Scope on my SGSII but im a bit tired of that now and looking for something else,i hear Chrome for ICS is supposed to be very good, so what browser is everyone using then?
Chrome is not that great on s3 yet, it lags and has touch delays..stock browser is undoubtedly the best browser I have tried . It gets the work done. Only thing I don't like is how you manage tabs . Try dolphin browser, should run as stock but with some enchanced features
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Well the built in browser works really nice, but i personally like
firefox and that you can use addons like adblock and so that i value
a lot personally.
Though I don't currently have the S3 yet, I'll probably use Boat Browser. Easy to use and has been the best I have used for my tastes. It'll be the fist I install when I get my S3.
Dunno where you heard that Chrome 'lags', that's definately not the case. Alright, you don't have Flash. I always thought of it as a huge drawback but I haven't missed it a single time and I've been using Chrome for Android since the very beginning.
It has great tab management, staggering performance and a brilliant look. One of the best things about it is the integration with your desktop Chrome (and all other versions of Chrome you might be using.) Open tabs are synced in real time so let's just say you want to open a link from your phone on your desktop. no more mailing it around, now you can just click on it on your desktop. The bookmark sync is great too. And it's Chrome.

Use Chrome. Also install Flashify. In the rare instance you launch a site that needs flash, just click share, flashify, then select an alternative browser. The page you were browsing is then opened for you.

Stock browser works well here.
Before I used Dolphin, but there's a bug or something. When double tapping to zoom in on an area on the page it always zooms in to the left of the page (instead of the area you double tap)
Do more people experience this bug?
Dolphin Mini - best interface, not a ton of features
Dolphin HD - alright interface, just works
Opera Mobile - most like a PC, best comparability with websites that give trouble, has hardware acceleration, super smooth
Stock - smoothest, least features, and has problems downloading certain types of files, or downloading at all from hosting websites

Which Browser?

I am currently using the stock and the Opera mobile, looks like the former got too many bugs least of which is that can't locate my device for attachments and also doesn't show certain links.
On the other hand the Opera seems stopped supporting Adobe Flash player so no plug ins.
Any browser out there that can do all of this without problem?, thanks.

I find Boat to be the most functional, lightest, and quickest.
Before I just use Dolphin HD but now after all the Mobile and desktop bookmarks are sync I just go all the way Google Chrome
Using Maxthon browser for almost 8 months now, won't ever change it, it is the best browser for me, try it.
Maxthon,ok will give it a try, still couldnt find the perfect one..hope this one is better.
I tried Chrome, but for some reason it feels really laggy on the Note. It worked fine on SGS2 and GNex. So I'm just using stock, I hate the tab management but at least it works fine. Anyone have any browser with desktop/tablet style tabs?

It does work but you need to download a browser that will support the flash plugin. Since flash player is no longer supported the browsers on the phone dont support the plugin. Go to the market and download Dolphin browser.
Forgot to add that if you use Dolphin browser you need to go into the settings...web content...and turn flash on.
Firefox works too but it takes up much more space.
thanks will try that.

No Chrome for Android doesn't support flash they have switched to HTML5 since flash ended android support. All the new phones and upcoming phone browsers wont support flash plugin. You need to download a browser from the market that supports flash like Dolphin, Firefox, etc.
