Looks ok. A couple things that it could be are.
1. You used notepad to create or edit desc.txt (try editpad lite)
2.You used compression when you zipped everything up. Use store only.

Hi,
I just got this phone for my wife and the splash screen after the bootanimation is of the network operator. I was wondering how I can replace this splash screen with a personalized one or remove it altogether if I cant change it myself.
I looked around but couldn't find anything 100% for this phone.
The device is already rooted and i figured with was as simple as replacing a file in system or something but couldn't find it anywhere
Thanks for any assistance

Why do you need to change it lol. Leave your wifes phone alone. it's not like you switch your phone on and off phone 24/7
Ask us any Android Related Question @FeraLabsDevs on Twitter
After you pull the bootanimation.zip from /system/media, you can just open the zip file, and edit the desc.txt file.
ie - Mine looks like this -
# 540 wide, 960 tall 15 frames per second
540 960 15
# intro
p 1 15 intro
# fade
p 1 0 fade
# mobility
p 4 0 mobility
# rogers
p 0 0 rogers
and I can just change "p 0 0 rogers" (carrier) to "#p 0 0 rogers" (no quotes) and it blocks that boot animation part from running.
Or you could go into the folder that's named in the last Part, and edit the pic to be whatever you want.
After switching everything you want, push it back to /system/media

can someone point me in the direction of a working tutorial on how to change a boot animation for a galaxy s device? I've tried searching around and replacing the bootanimation.zip didn't work. *also didn't work with the vibrant or the gs2 either with stock kernel/roms* I know Samsung uses proprietary .qmg boot images with like three parts to them etc.
basically. how do I/ where can I find information about changing my boot animation?
technically I have gotten 2 replies to the previous post, and am aware that "bootanimation.zip requires a kernel that supports boot animation zip"
and that this *might* be able to be done outside of the kernel, but you still need to hack a file.
Also, any ideas as to why "bootanimation.zip" is included in stock roms for galaxy s devices if they don't use them?

I think its an ics thing
I'm pretty sure its either leftovers from the gb era or poor work by samsung

Put bootanimation.zip in system/media. Go to system/bin, rename or delete samsungani and rename bootanimation to samsungani.

so basically make two copies of the new bootanimation.zip
one replacing the original bootanimation.zip in system/media
and the other being renamed to samsungani and replacing the original samsungani in system/bin
right?

No you want to put 'bootanimation.zip' in system/media. Then navigate to system/bin where you'll find two files named samsungani and bootanimation w/ no extension. Delete samsungani and rename bootanimation to samsungani.

extremely glad I made a nandroid backup.
technically that worked though, however it flashed the splash screen, showed the new boot animation (yay) then continued load haptic and back lighting for the buttons, heard the damn t-mobile sound, and then the boot continued to loop. could press the power button and screen off, press again, screen on, still playing the boot animation.
is there something else special I need to do?

Open the bootanimation.zip and then open the desc.txt fIle and change the numbers that come comes after the letter p to something other than 0..example . 720 1280 10

p 7 0 part1 0 is infinite

What exactly is the problem you're having? If it's a problem with looping the animation forever... some phones have problems with infinite loop setting in the desc.txt. Need to loop it only a few or 1 time.
Its just black, no animation.. Could you tell me what my desc.txt should be if I have 10 jpgs?
One that I made for myself looks like this; it has 57 images in the VZW folder, but you can adjust accordingly:
Code:
720 1280 15
p 1 15 android
p 1 15 beats
p 1 90 VZW

Edit the last line. There isn't a 57 in there; I was just stating the boot animation that I made had 57 images in the folder whereas yours has 10.
Okay Ill give it a try. Thank you for your help!
I just cant get it to work for some reason.
I followed this exactly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096068
My desc file is
320 480 30
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
what could the problem be?

Change the first line (resolution) to what I have.
the part0 and part1 are what your folder names are. Change that to what you named your folder(s).
Also, for the last folder (where you have your main animation), sometimes setting the loop to 0 (infinite loop till it loads), causes the animation to not work (go black), like I said before. Try setting the first number on the last line to 1, and change the last # to 90.
Make sure that the compression level for the zip file is set to "store" for each folder and all images inside the folders. May be easier to create a new zip.
Edit: Fixed it for you. You can play around with the speed by adjusting the numbers in the desc.txt. The 5 is frames per second.

Porting from a Made Bootanimation
Hi i am going to show you all an easy method of bootanimation porting to our G3 and from our G3
If you are planning to port from G3 , remember to substitute every " 240 x 400" with your phone's dimensions
If you want to make a bootanimation I recommend you to follow this GUIDE
once you have the bootanimation you want to port,:-
1)extract the bootanimation.zip to a desired folder
2)you should get 2 folders- named " partx " (x can be any number) and a " desc.txt"
3) open the first of the two parts(the one whose x value is smaller)
4)If the bootanimation is a good one, you shall find quite a lot of images in there.Note down the image size and extension.
5)download this software from HERE (*)
6) Install the above software on your PC
7) once installed, open it
8) On the top left corner you shall see " ADD SOURCE FILES"
9)Click it. then choose the files in the first part folder. Now select all the files by clicking the tick just below ADD SOURCE FILES.
10)Now on the bottom roght, in CONVERT OPTIONS, choose "general".(you may skip this step if the part images are in 240 x 400 size)
---For destination, check SOURCE FOLDER.
---For file exists, choose REPLACE
---For format, choose " Same as original "
---Then choose RESIZE option in convert settings.
---Check resize
---check "input" and "stretch"
---in width, type 240
---in height, type 400
---Filter is LINEAR
11)Now click convert. Once the conversion is done , do recheck in the part folders if the images are in .png and 240 x 400
12)Repeat step 10 and 11 for the second part folder. Now rename the two part folders as " part0" and "part1"(part0 corresponds the original part which had a lesser value of x)
13) once done, open the desc.txt . Delete everything
14)now type "240 400 30
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1 "
NOTE:The p on the 2nd and 3rd line should start exactly below the 240 of the first. The 1 and 0 in 2nd line should be exactly below the 0 and 4 of the first AND 0 and 0 of the 3rd line shall be exactly below the 1 and 0 of the second line. Dont leave any space in the beginning.
15)save the desc.txt
16) Download the latest version of bootanimation factory from here
17)install it and open it
18)Select "create new bootanimation"
19)then select "choose folder". Select the folder which has your modified 2 part folders in it.
20)If Everything is fine, you should get a green tick and proceed on the left . You will see " 240. 400. 30 (this is your desc.txt config)
21)Select add loop.
---in choose folder select "part0"
---number of loops shall be 1 loop delay shall be 0.Click ADD
22)Again select add loop
---this time choose "part1"
--- number of loops is 0 and loop delay is also 0.Click ADD
23)now you can choose a custom boot sound if You want to( .mp3 file)
24)select preview
25)this is your bootanimation. If you find it too fast, exit the preview select the first line on the left (the one with 240. 400. 30) and press EDIT. Now you can change the value of the "30" (lesser the value, the slower it is)
26)now save the bootanimation as " bootanimation.zip"
27)Download THIS
28)create a new folder on the desktop and extract the above there
29)open it and you should see 2 folders- META-inf and system.Open system then open media. You should see a bootanimation.zip there.Replace it with yours.
30)now go back to the folder which had system and META-inf as sub folders. Select META-inf and system, then right-click choose Winrar/7-zip and click ADD TO ARCHIVE. Choose " .zip " and rename it to whatever you want.
31)Done. This has created your bootanimation as an update.zip, ready to be flashed via cwm
*-----if this software doesnt work, you will need to download a software which resizes images and converts them
If anyone requires -- AUDIO CONVERTER
If you have photoshop you can also use This too.:good:

Making a Bootanimation from a Video
To make a bootanimation from a video , make sure you have the video in the best quality available.
Also make sure that the video isn't too big.
1) Get the video that you want
2) Download the latest version of videoTojpg converter from here
3)install the above software and launch it
4)Click on add files and choose the video you want
5)Now when you come to the extract option below , if your video is approx 30-50 Sec choose EVERY FRAME else if it is not you can either choose EXTRACT EVERY 10 FRMAES OR EXTRACT 200 FRAMES OR EXTRACT 500 FRAMES
6)Now you will get the jpg files (See the destination folder to find out where they are located)
7)now again create a folder somewhere. Create part0 and part1 as sub folders in it. Also make a desc.txt with same text as mentioned in the above post
8)next copy all the files in part0
9)If you want, you can add jpg in part1 folder. These jpg will be the ones that will keep looping while your phone boots. If there is going be to be nothing in part1, delete the folder and in desc.txt delete the last line.
10) Perform step 10 and 11 from above tut.
11) After this , perform all steps in above tutorial starting from step 16

so does that mean we just leave the original bootanimation .qmg files alone?
and i found a bootanimation to use for now. i had uses liked rom toolbox and it didnt work. but the zip has 2 part0 and part 1 folders and the desc file and i had tried just manually putting the file where they go but that didnt work.

the .qmg files are for samsung stock bootanimation
u HAVE to delete it before performing any boot animation change
but i am not too sure if u flash the update.zip, it will delete .qmg files and then copy your bootanimation
It is best to modify bootanimations in custom roms, where bootanimation exists in /system/media/bootanimation.zip

Most common mistake when bootanimation zip don't work is that the zip is made with compression instead of "store" option.
It doesn't work with compressed zip.
