Hi, I currently own an Archos 5 IT.
Looking to upgrade to a bigger tablet (10'').
The Archos 101 is on sale right now over here. Question is, should I just grab the 101 or just wait for 101 G9 to be released?
PS: Can you play games from your Archos 101 and view them on TV via HDMI?
wowowowoowowoww
I GOT A BLUE CAR AT THE MOMENT ? SHOULD I GET A BLACK ONE? WILL IT BE FASTER THEN MY OLD? CAN I SEE PEOPLE IN MY BACKMIRROR THEN?
no offense guy - but did u ever think of:
1. there are about 10 threads about gen9 already....
2. DID U READ ANY OF THEM?
3. How should we help u with your decision if u don't tell what u wanna do with it exactly?
To your only real question: playing "games" over hdmi (even u dont mention gen8 or gen9)
gen8: yes and no - should be possible but there is no screen mirroring on the gen8 101 -> u just see the image on the tv + got a mouse like pointer and 101 as touchpad -> mouse controled games
gen9: they got mirroring as far as i know...
BUT for both is said the display output over hdmi is "lagging" a bit in this scenario - watch some yourtube for seeing it...
By the way, how to scroll the A70IT screen down when using HDMI? When I get into file management, I slide both left and right side of the A70IT but can not scroll down to screen. Is there anything I did wrongly? Thank

I read you can plug an external to this device, is that true? I am trying to basically make a player that can hold all of my music.
And, can you put android 2.2 (or a custom rom) on here?
Wich Archos are you talking about? Here we speak about the whole Gen8:
Archos 23 Internet Tablet
Archos 32 Internet Tablet
Archos 43 Internet Tablet
Archos 70 Internet Tablet
Archos 101 Internet Tablet
If you have another one, it's not Archos Gen8 ^^

Or the Archos 7 TIM (there's so many "Archos 7" ^^)

problem with archos 7o internet tablet
My problem is that when i connect the charger on my device sometimes the screen terns green with lines is there something to fix this or is a hardware issue?
Hi guys and gals,
I've recently bought an Archos 101 Internet Tablet with 16GB as a real bargain (169 Euro) and now it's lying still boxed on my table and I ask myself, what should I do
BTW, is this a GEN8 oder GEN9 device?
I thought that this could be a great deal when it's possible to install CyanogenMod 7.x on the 101 - but as I read for now this is not that easy as I thought
There's obviously a way installing CM7 over openAOS, but with massive restrictions like not-working
Audio
Bluetooth
Accelerometer
accelerated Video decoding
Suspend
TS calibration on A28/A32/A43
This is really disappointing, because I really like CM7 ported to other devices I know...
So, back to my thread-title: should I unbox the 101 and start to use it, hoping that CM7 will work on it without any restrictions one fine day? Or shoud I send it back to the seller and get my money back?
And: what alternative cheap tablet with Android, a big community AND the ability to install a "normal" CM7 should I buy?
Best regards and thanks for your thoughts

Hi,
you have a Gen 8 tablet. I haven't tried CM7 on my tablet yet (Doesn't look stable enough for me yet), but have you looked into Urukdroid? It is fully functional, and adds some neat things like being able to use a DVB stick to watch TV.
The first alternative tablet I can think of is the Nook Color. I hear that has CM7, and is about the same price (150 euros).
If all you want to do is play video and you're stuck on the 150 price range, go with the 101 for the price, although the screen is terrible. CM7 runs very well on the Nook Color, but it's a 7" screen and video playback is terrible. For very little extra money you can get either the kindle fire or nook tablet and have something much better.

To rectify some things on RC bull release openAOS:
Audio works for CM7
Bluetooth works for CM7
Accelerometer works for CM7
accelerated Video decoding is not working for CM7
Suspend is working, however there still seem to be some issues
TS calibration for A32 and A43 is working A28 we do not support
Is it a stable release? No far from that it still needs a lot of work.

You can use it as a media center, and if you have and android phone, you can use that as a remote with the "Archos Remote" app
hey y'all!
just bought a new archos platinum 70 and searched the archos website for the developer image to that device, but couldn't find out what gen it is. so i searched here and found no answer even...
ok, then - i caled the support. they told me it would be "gen13" for which no developer-image is provided by now.
seems a bit confusing, because i miss a gen11 & 12 between.
can anybody here say anything about this? may this really be correct?
and if anybody has played around with that device: have you got it into fastboot and/or recovery mode?
when i press the VolDown/PowerOn-combo it brings me into a mode showing a frame of squares around the display. if i then touch the display and move around it is drawing lines in reversed direction...
so there was only more confusion...
what are your experiences with that device?
