Non WebOS Phone tethering - TouchPad General

All credit to the Dev at precentral (i'm just passing on the 'love')
As some of you know (or not know) with the new 3.0.4 update, a NON-WebOS handset can be tethered via bluetooth to make/recieve calls or send/recieve texts.
Now I've managed to get this working with my desire HD, no overclocking kernels or govnah or any patches installed and it works perfectly. HP touchpad version 3.0.2 works as in the video and 3.0.4 also works for me.
here's the forum link at precentral with instructions BUT the video link is easier

Hi, I have the HTC Inspire which is supposed to be the same as your Desire HD...followed the steps, but still cant get it to work. At one point it did dial one number then erred out. Couldnt get it to dial after that...

I had the same problem with my Inspire. I can send texts from it but can't call. Which really I'm OK with.

I had that issue when i did it the first time, now every time my phone connects, i do it through free tether rather than the in built Bluetooth card....seems to work fine
Inspire is one of the handsets they're having least success with. A useful feature that was a half a**ed attempt.
My advice would be to try again with no patches installed at all....i did that but then again only if you have the patience for it cuz it did start getting on my nerves

verizon 6800 and skype on 6.1

I just took the plunge and upgraded.
I will be heading to costa rica in 2 weeks and need to be in contact with my practice. Someone mentioned skype. I was reading about it, but the consensus is that it doesnt work on 6.1.
Anyone hve experience?

google skype version 2.2.0.18 and install it it will solve the no audio issue.... but ur main concern will be getting wifi access in Costa Rica because if you roam using Data it may be cheaper to just use cellular
can you link or attach the installer?

Don't forget that using wifi doesn't count as data, so it's free to use worldwide. It may work well using local hotspots.
So what about the newest 2.2.0.37 version. I make calls but dont hear anything over the earpiece.

Ok. They are up to 2.2.0.45. It does come up and run. Lets you sign in and all. My problem is that I called the "Echo / Sound Test Service" and there was no sound. Can anyone else reproduce?
Search for a thread titled "VoIP on wifi" there is a version of Skype linked on the 2nd page that works.

What about working on 3G? I couldn't care less if it worked on WiFi.
the newest version is not working ... again.... damn!
I posted about this over on the general Titan section... I installed, was able to sign in and all - but still no sound. Skype reported that this was compatible with Windows Mobile 6.1, but maybe it's a problem with the Titan itself? Any ideas? I was able to call my friend with this and their Skype ringed, but no sound coming either way.
Also - you can instant message with it - just not talk... Anybody?
WTF?!
Seriously, people have posted this already. The latest version of Skype does not work on the Titan. When they tell you it is compatible with Windows Mobile 6.1 clearly it is since it installs and runs. You have to use an older version of Skype to get the audio to work. I personally use a Beta version. There is even a version of skype that works with the Titan stated earlier in this thread.
Yeah, Skype has declared 6.1 support with the Skype ver 2.2.0.45 released yesterday.
Frankly I'm more worried about the chat features than voice. So as long as it launches...

Not sure about 3G. I don't use Verizon's data network. I have wifi access everywhere I use my phone so I quit paying for it. Try it out and let us know. It's the only version I could get sound with over wifi though.

I did a search and realize that older versions didn't work on the Titan, but with a brand new release as of yesterday, I was hoping some of the issues had been addressed by Skype in the latest release...
Try this version:

It works great over WiFi. Not sure about 3G, but it is the only version that I could find with working sound.

Are you sure it works? It won't even come up on my titan. See my signature for the versions I'm using.
I just used it to talk to my cousin (over wifi) in Spain last week with dcd 3.2.2 and radio 3.42.02. I did install the VoIP feature in dcd's kitchen. I have not tried it with the latest dcd kitchen though.
Try doing a soft reset after install before opening the program.

It worked after a clean ROM install, but now I am also having the same problem.
I think it is because I uninstalled it and tried the new version released yesterday linked above. When I went to reinstall it and open it nothing happened as you say. Just the hour glass. Weird.
I assume you have also been trying multiple versions after your last ROM install?

[Q] Aria Wifi

I have the HTC Aria with CM 6.1.1 installed on it.
Since the time I installed CM 6, I haven't been able to connect to the school network. I could do so in Liberated Aria (FRxx) and the stock 2.1 ATT Rom but not in CM6.
The thing is, my school has a login page that allows a student to login using his id and password and whenever someone tries to navigate to a page (google for example), the server would redirect to this login page first. Only after a user logs in, he can proceed to surf the web.
It works perfectly fien on my laptop and used to work in the Sense ROMs but for some reason, it doesn't work in CM6. 3G data works perfectly though.
I tried searching the forum but couldn't find a similar question. Someone asked this question in the Cyanogen Mod forum too but it was left unanswered.

If I'm remembering correctly it could be our wifi driver may not be compatible with their router or something along g those lines. Somebody can correct me on that though. Also, at the public library where I live every once in a while I wont be able to use the wifi. It will say connected but no internet. But if I go back the next day it works fine (reset their routers maybe?)

Thank you for that!
Is there a workaround for this? I hate to use the 3G data connection (which is paid, thank you ATT ) instead of the free WiFi that I could use instead. Also, at the place where I work on campus, I get no 3G. All I get there is EDGE.
I had this problem happen to me and couldn't find a solution for it. The only solution I found was to go to Liberated (I use the HK kernel) instead of CM6.
i would try using CM7 instead of CM6.
the CM7 nightlies were slow. even CM6 is pretty slow unless the aria is overclocked and doing this ruins the battery life. But i still prefer to use cm6 (for now atleast). Is there a way this issue can be rectified in cm6?
Anyone?? Hello!! People say that the android development community is very active but I've always found it otherwise. People like Cyanogen and attn release great mods but not always help people out with their problems. Isn't that unfair?

I find this to be the complete opposite of what I have experienced. I just got my phone Feb. 23rd and have rooted it flashed 3 different rom's and a couple nightlys. Like stated before, just get on the irc chat and start asking, but I do guarantee if you go with this kind of attitude you won't get far Good luck and I hope your problems get resolved.
did you consider asking IT at your college or checking their website for information on wifi?

I'm guessing that you used your browser after enabling WiFi and disabling data and entered your username and password mentioned above? Does this page even show up for you after this update?
immediately after you connect to the wifi, go to browser and try to open up a new page, that login should show up. (this is based on other networks where i have done the same thing)

thanks. Tried it but did not work.
I realized that since I started using the CM6.1.1 ROM, my phone's IP address doesn't show up at my home wireless router's logs. All I can see is my MAC id.
Could that be the problem?
You might want to give this new CM7 based ROM a try. It's based on CM7 nightly 21 and it fixes the known issues with hidden SSID's and reconnecting to "remembered" networks. I'm running it now and it's excellent.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996331
Edit: I expect that the changes in this ROM will be merged into the regular CM7 nightly builds in the very near future.

I dunno why it's been deleted, but in any case, the problems that ROM was designed to fix have been addressed a long time ago and current versions of CM7 shouldn't have those issues.
I'm working with CM7 no problem with hidden wireless networks, but it do seems that the phone get less reception on the wireless network. even if I'm close to routers I get only 2-3 bars on the wireless icon. Don't know why is that.

[Q] Bluetooth not connecting with devices

can anyone else connect their HP touchpad to their phone via Bluetooth I have an evo 3d and neither of them find each other
I have an Epic 4G running SFR 1.2 and I can't get either device to find the other. It doesn't matter what setting I have type of device I have the touchpad look for.
Anyone else have luck hooking their phone up to their touchpad running android?
Bump - anyone had any luck? Can't get my TP to see my SGS2 or vice-versa.

I've got an... just check the sig.... anyways I was able to get the TP and the Inspire to pair but thats it, no calls, no texts. I didn't spend to much time on it cause the Inspire is actually recognized as a Desire HD (cause of the ROM) and thats on the list of not working. Good luck!
If you have Preware downloaded, Download an app called freeTether. This app allows you to make the TouchPad visible via bluetooth. Then on your phone find the TouchPad and pair it. Then accept the the link on the Touchpad and your good to go.
PS- you can also get the text messaging to work on the Touchpad with most Android phones if you use this method. You just need to make sure you allow messages to be sent via bluetooth in your phone. It should be in settings under bluetooth advance or something like that!

Texting works on my Desire HD. I get an issue with calls but I have yet to really dig in to it to try and get it working. It triggers the phone dialer but then drops saying the device doesn't support audio. Will post again if I get phone audio working.
Worked here, thanks.
Same issue with calls, it initiates it and then gives up. Texting works fine, and it appears to be receiving files from my SGS2 although I can't see where it's saving them. (EDIT: It saves them into the /tmp folder)
Now. Any way to get the TouchPad to access the WiFi connection of the SGS2 via either USB or Bluetooth somehow? (My SGS2 connects to the office Enterprise network, the TouchPad won't despite several hours of hackery to try and get it going ).

Non-Root Tethering - Weirdness - Help Please!

Good morning, Nerds. (and I use that term with utmost love and respect - seriously).
MODS: please move this if posted in wrong area. Thank you!
I don’t post much and prefer to use search, etc. to solve issues – and I’ve learned quite a bit thanks you to all. I’ve been working on a problem for two days now and it has me stumped.
Problem: I cannot connect my wife’s new Nook Tablet to wireless tether. The NT is NOT rooted and has been updated to 1.4.1. I prefer NOT to root it as she likes it and honestly she doesn’t need all the stuff rooting allows. That being said, if I need to root it, I am very close to making that call.
Here are the details:
I have Droid X2: rooted, ADW Launcher EX, lots of stuff frozen, averaging 40 hours on a single charge and loving life. It’s fast and I can do just about anything on it. I have done no ROMs or Themes cause I can get the looks I want, the toys I want and it flies already, so this is an area I’ve not chosen to learn about.
I have Xoom WiFi: same as the X2 in just about every way. I’ve also installed the AdHoc fix so I can tether. I have tethered to the X2 about 3 times when I needed to (hospital stays) but I really only did that as a backup and to learn how. BUT- it works, it smokes, and it’s easy. I use one of the older Google apks to tether from the X2, 2.0.5 I think. (I say I think cause I’ve made changes recently trying to get the NT to work). It worked great and neither the phone nor the Xoom started the Verizon sign up pages.
The NT. I really like it but am ready to root so I can do what I want. But the problem is weird so I’m not sure I need to root it – or it that will even fix it. As I have no root, I have not installed the AdHoc patch on the NT.
After reading all the pages I could find, the summary of my trial and error is as follows:
My son’s Bionic (my tester) finds and connects to my X2 tether every time, any program, any condition, no issues.
The older google codes won’t even be found by the NT. The newer ones can be found – I suspect this is because the newer ones broadcast in infrastructure mode as well and do not need the AdHoc Fix.
The newer ones only seem to work when set device as GoogleNexusOne, and the set up as Netd (I found this in a thread). When I do this, the NT FINDS the network and actually connects. BUT, both the phone and the NT redirect to Verizon pages. And even when I undo and delete the code, I have to go through and clear all cache, reboot the phone, etc as Dolphin starts up and ONLY go to the Verizon page.
With the Xoom, it would not work at all until the patch was installed. With the NT, it DOES work, it just redirects on the newer codes. But it won’t even find the older ones. KEY POINT too – when I use the newer codes on the Xoom – it too redirects! I have to undo everything to get back the functionality of the AdHoc fix, and the old code and perfect tethering.
So, if nothing worked I’d be rooting already. The fact that it does work, but redirects, makes me think I have a setting wrong (especially since the same behavior happens on the Xoom).
NOTE: I did see the posts about hacking the radio, I don’t think I’m up for that as an alternative to rooting. There are also some patches that might work, but specifically call out as NOT being for X2.
So that’s it. Any thoughts? I consider solving this without NT rooting a bit of a quest at this point!
not sure I fully understand your issue, so sorry if some of this response is redundant.
I think you know this already: is the wifi tether an adhoc network? if so, the NT won't be able to connect. You'll have to root and update the WPA_supplicant file to allow it to connect to adhoc networks. I have the OG droid and had to follow that process.
Additionally: you may be able to download a different tethering program for your phone that allows you to select the type of network your phone will tether - but it depends on your phones hardware - the og can only run adhoc. Try this one: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com
i am unfamiliar with your phone, but I am using my galaxy S captivate phone to tether flawlessly to the nook tablets. I am not sure if this worked or didnt work before root, because everything is better with root So just know that there are others having success with it and the problem may or may not be root, My phone is rooted and running apex rom, with a rooted nook tablet.
Thanks for the input guys. I've used the programs you reference and with the settings, I CAN connect with the NT. The issue is when I do, it redirects me to VZ page. I've tried all the settings under the devices mentioned - only Netd works, and then redirects.
you said your phone was rooted right? it's odd that it's re-directing you to the VZ page, I assume telling you to sign up for the 'hot spot' feature?
I wonder if you tried putting a ROM on there like Cyanogen or something if that would make a difference? It's pretty easy, you just need to get clockwork mod (download from market) - I think it's 2 or 3 dollars for the premium version which you may or may not need for cyanogen.

[Q] No skype or skype through tether

Hi, I'm using resurrection remix ics rom, the newest one. It's a brilliant rom so thanks for the effort you spent making it! I do have a couple of issues though, I've found skype doesn't not login or just force quits itself, tethering doesn't allow for more than one connection, nor does it allow skype to pass through tethering. It would be really nice if someone could help me with this / recommend a rom where these features + lock screen work. I've posted here as I'm new I can't post in dev.
Thanks!

i'm using rootbox and i don't have any problem with skype...dunno about RR...but i don't think that it is a rom problem
Hi, thanks for your reply.
My skype ports are all open as I've flashed the stock rom and skype logged in today. Granted, it works intermittently, but it works I know T-mobile UK keep it all open too. Seems that it might be just due to the siyah kernel, although I've had had skype log in once on that kernel using a non resurrection rom. Even though skype has logged in today, I seem to have no power down options e.g. restart, silent mode etc and, more annoyingly, I have no lock screen again.
Thanks
skype / verizon issue
Here's an odd problem - wondering if you have seen it?
I can use Skype on my PC for about 20 minutes before it suddenly cuts out, and in fact my entire mobile data connection shuts down. If I reset the phone, internet (and Skype) comes back, but now only for a few minutes before it is shut down again.
If I don't use Skype, I can use the internet all day long with no disconnects... suspicious
Verizon --> Droid Charge --> PDAnet --> USB --> Win7 desktop --> Skype
