another phone is used in this video but its still the same process. all you need to do is open the app and click root:

But what I wanted to know is does anyone know (which I'm sure you do) how to change the internet thumbnails to something basic like these pics, just so that the page looks cleaner and more uniform looking, and yes I've search til my eyes are crossed.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated
BTW I mean by doing this on my phone not through pc.

I'm not entirely where they go mate but you should be able to do it through Total Commander on you're phone
