Keep getting an "Oops" error trying to activate visual vm on the Radar on TMO. One support tech said that I needed to DL an app from the marketplace. Next tech said (more believably) that there is a known problem activating on some Radars. No fix yet, apparently.
Anyone get it to work?

I highly doubt something like that would be possible. Then again I don't sorry
I think the closest thing you're gonna get is to get something like Advanced Config or DiamondTweak (I forget which, maybe both have this) and enable SMS Delivery Notification.

Has anyone here successfully set up Google Voice on their Cricket flashed phone?
I'm attempting to get my ex-gf's set up with Google Voice. As you go through the setup process, and hit 'Activate', after a short minute or two, the activation Fails, with a message citing that Google Voice was unable to detect a valid phone number for the phone (implying the ACTUAL number, not the 'Voice' number).
(note: this is Plain Jane v1.0 (shouldn't matter), all PST settings in place properly, and the cricket_web_mms_v9.zip flash from Token419)
My next efforts will include taking /data/data/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice/shared_prefs/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice_preferences.xml and editing it in WordPad to include her phone numbers instead of mine.
Then I'm going to copy the whole com.google.android.apps.googlevoice folder from my /data/data into her /data/data, and reboot the phone.
My HOPE is that the number just needs to be thrown into this .xml file, and nothing more.
Has anyone else had any trouble with this, or needed to play with .xml files to get this to work? If so, did you set it up to work on Google.com/voice with a full web browser (computer) first, THEN set it up on the phone? Or did you use the phone first.
I will report my success rate here whenever I see her (hopefully this week?), but until then, I thought I'd see if someone found something more efficient or reasonable to do to get this to work (since what I'm doing seems a little excessive!)

I was actually the first one on any of the forums to get MMS working on Cricket on our phones.
I did it by figuring it out (not using a method from any other phone).
And yes, all PST settings are in place 100%, and the cricket web MMS v9 flash is flashed to the phone, 100%.

Cricket's forwarding commands are different than what is pre-programmed on Gtalk. I don't recall exactly, but I think instead of #740 to forward, it's #720 for Cricket....that may help...I got it set up right away after figuring that out.

Right, but that's not the problem.
Forwarding everything to Google Voice is not the problem at all. It's *73 and *74 and so on, virtually the same as Sprint.
The problem isn't using Google Voice the way some people use it, by having it text you, and using the web site.
The problem is, SPECIFICALLY, with the Google Voice app. When opening it for the first time, it tells you that it can't detect your phone number. In other words, your normal Cricket phone number.
I'm looking to have her put on the Google Voice app, so that instead of getting texts with your transcribed voice mails (many minutes after the voice mail), that the app brings it through the internet (like it does for me, on Verizon).
Without the Voice app, Google Voice might as well be like it is on the iPhone (since the GV+ app sucks), which is basically the same as a Dumb Phone uses it.
Bump? On mycricket.com they tell how to do unconditional call forwarding. So I know its possible. Although I don't see a feature under features in mycricket.com. So BuMp any got this working with Cricket?

Use the search button next time 'cause this question has been answered a billion times..
But the answer is no, you can't call with this tab (yet) because honeycomb doesn't support the phone functionality. The hardware is present in the tab but the software simply doesn't know how to utilize it. Maybe when our developers get the complete source code for honeycomb they can cook something up but for the time being we have to use a real mobile phone to call with.
Uhh, yes you can call with this tab. Install Google Voice, get a free number, buy Groove IP from the Market, 5 minutes later you will have a giant slab of a phone.

Post #3 is correct. Obviously you have to be on wifi, but you can very easily make phone calls with this tablet. I have done it many times. To the OP, if you need links or anything else please let us know.

Just as you can access US/UK video with a US IP address - you can get Google Voice with a US number.
Get a free (or rent) US voip number, register for google voice.

I can't speak for the Tab (I have one now), but I was able to use Skype with my Xoom when I had that tablet. It worked fine. Just need to download it and use a wi-fi connection.

I assume you are talking about using a VoIP provider? Is there any way of making FREE calls in to US numbers using Google Voice Callback or something similar? I've been unsuccessful in trying to make it work on mine (wifi only version)
I tried groove IP the call quality sucks no one can hear me but I am able to text from my Google voice number

This is correct ...and the first mod I did. Don't forget to click forward calls to gtalk in Gvoice. Scince my main number is ported, it rings and texts my tab and phone simultaneously. sweet. Only downside is wifi/teather required

Im looking for a application that lets me answer calls by voice by saying a prerecorder word of my choosing. While at first appears like a gimmick, its nice for when you are in the shower, a call comes in and you dont want to hit the screen with wet hands. Say the word and the phone picks up the call and (optionally) turns on the loadspeaker.

I saw some of these apps which you can tell your phone to send a message and the specific person you want to send to. I thought they can also receive the call and call others by voice.
Anyone have information on what Im searching for?

See if your provider offers visual voicemail...if not, check out "you mail" out some of the other visual voicemail apps on Google play.
That's about the closest I can think of...not only can you just hit play on your device without calling, but you also get a text transcript of each message as it comes through.

OK, I have done a little thread cleaning....I would rather not close this thread, so let's try a reset.
I think everybody knows that not every application is available in all locations...well now you do
So let's not get upset when somebody suggests something that you can't use. I just checked the Italian version of the play store and there are numerous Voicemail and Answering Machine apps for download. Personally if it isn't inverted (black background, white text) I don't want it.
So if i may recap.
The search is for an App on the phone(or tablet) that will answer for you and then play a message after that it will record what is been said on the other side of
the line.
So no redirecting calls to another number that records it so I/we don't also have to call that number to hear the messages.
I have also tried several from the "Google Play" market/store but i cannot find one that works correctly (i.e. clear sounds is a must for me personally, which all of them lack. If i want it on speaker to record i can just use my 1980 tape recorder next to it )
Oh just to clarify this is NOT about voice-mail!
An answering machine was used with landlines for when you'd be away.

I have looked at all suggestions above, but that's all voice-mail as far as i can see. (Checked websites and info if not clear enough, didn't actually try it out).
So if I'm wrong please let me know and i will research it further.
Hope this clears up some misunderstandings I have come to see in my 4 year hunt for a descent "Answering Machine app".
(Also looked for it when I had Windows Mobile but that was not possible on the phone i had then. Hardware related and such.
