I have all the right settings and everything but the damn screen won't stay on for more than 10 seconds.
Screen Timeout is set to never turn off.
Power Saver is off.
No automatic lock.
This is so annoying when i'm trying to read anything, i have to keep touching the damn screen.

Theres a nice app in the market called "keepscreen lite".
It's free and you can configure each app so that the screen wont turn off for them.

By default my device keeps the screen on 1 minute. I've never changed it. It does seem to work fairly well by default.
If you're using a custom ROM, there could be an issue with the ROM. Might be best to post in the developer's thread to alert them to the issue and also to see if others are experiencing.
The main setting I've relied on is under Settings-> Display -> Screen timeout . Mine is currently set as the stock default of 1 min.
Hope that helps!
I have the stock rom, and my screen timeout setting has been at 2 minutes since I first go it.
I'll check out that APP that you suggested j4n87. Thanks
LATER: Sweet, that app works great. I still wish that the system settings actually worked like they're supposed to.

For some reason my screen quickly turns itself off when I awake it from stand by. It's like 3 or 4 seconds and then the screen will turn off, I can normally get around it by quickly pressing a button and this will keep the screen on.
It's also not a constant problem, after a soft reset the problem seems to go away for a random period of time and then return.
Any one else experience similar?

Just go to Sound and Display --> Backlight --> Set it for longer.

That doesn't work mainly cause there isn't an option to turn the backlight off after 3 seconds
sorry, wrong tab selected
pls delete.
I'm running stock, and I've found the screen won't automatically turn off while charging. 53 seconds after last touching the screen it will dim (when not charging it turns off at 60 seconds as it should), but will never turn off or lock as long as it is plugged in.
I've only installed these apps: audible, Facebook, pandora, speed test, and swift key. All updates installed.
This problem even happens after a battery pull at the lock screen before I've touched the phone, it just dims the lock screen.
There is an option in settings somewhere for "Keep screen awake while charging".
On ICS its in the development submenu - I can't remember exactly where it was on GB..
If you use a power control widget, you can change the screen timeout options.
I recommend Power Controls by Painless Death.

Best free widget I've found.
Or just press the lock/power button manually once phone is plugged in?

Great thanks! I found it under applications/development. Verizon sent me a new phone today because they didn't know how to stop it, sad.

LOL. Oh well, it will just get sold to someone else in a few months! No big loss.
The last two nights I've woken up and my display has been on while charging. I unplugged it and tapped the power button to shut off the screen. A few hours later I woke up and the screen is on again. It seems it comes on when it receives a notification and then it doesn't want to time out. Screen timeout is set to 1 minute and smart stay is off. Any ideas? I have no profile or power altering apps.
Did you by chance turn power save mode off under wifi setting *#0011* ? I did that and then noticed the screen stayed on all the time. If you never touched those settings then disregard

I never touched those setting. Thanks
I would turn the phone off and pull the battery. Sounds dumb but it can fix stupid little issues like this. Otherwise I'd to a hard reset and see if that helps. If not then return it and get a new one if you can. I have not had any issue like this yet.
Lock screen options too...Make sure they are correct.
Yeah pulling the battery fixes it temporarily but then it happens again. I'm thinking it might be an app I have installed but I have the same apps installed on my One X and I don't have the issue there. I can exchange it, I work at the AT&T Store but I think it's a software issue. I might try the factory reset.
Hey Guys,
I'm having a weird issue where the screen brightness keeps changing itself every time I turn the screen off. I tried disabling Smart Actions & Automate It (tasker-like app), changing the brightness in the display setting, unchecking the display power saver option. In all cases if I set the brightness to 100% after turning the screen off and then on again the brightness will be down to like 10% or so, although the indicators I have will still tell me the screen is at 100%. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Me too, it only happens randomly though, i thought it had something to do with the"Lux" app i use to control brightness.
Do u use any screen protectors? It could b interfering with the light sensor
Sent from my ICS Moto Razr XT910
There is a screen protector but this is happening when brightness is not set to Auto. It's set to 80% and every time I hit the power button and then turn the screen back on it dims to like 0-10%. I've tried closing all running processes and it still happens. I also tried resetting the phone and it initially wasn't doing this but once I setup all the programs it does, so it must be somehow related to a non-running process program configuration. Any ideas?
Thanks
Edit: Found out it was the Lightflow app, uninstalled it and no more brightness dimming issue.

interesting. I had that app installed for a while, maybe it messed something up that uninstalling didn't fix. I guess a hard reset is in my future. sigh.
After my phone is running for awhile the screen won't time out, a reboot will fix it but after some time the screen won't timeout again. Also if Quick glance is activated, while the issue is present, the screen will turn on, start to dim and then the lock screen will show and stay until I shut it down. Maybe an app is running in the background and keeping it from shutting down? This is when the phone is not charging so it's not the Stay awake setting. I've also turned various settings on and off as well as changing the screen timeout, which is now set to 15 secs, and the problem still persists.
Anyone with this issue?
I've seen some (Issue 37974) with the GS3 posting about the same issue but never saw a resolution.
Any help or insight would be appreciated.
I've noticed this but it usually was an app that kept it running.
From the Homescreen, try holding down the Home "Verzion" button for a few seconds. Click "Remove All" and then see if it times out. If that doesn't work, try clicking "Task Manager" instead and closing all Active Applications.
If either of these do work, then when you notice it again, be more selective in which apps you close until you find the offending app. I have a few Sound Engineering apps that use the microphone and one of them forces my screen to stay on. I'm assuming to access the mic hardware. It seems to run in the background even when I "close" the app.
I've done the remove all and nada but I'm adsuming it is and app too...
Thanks for the reply...
It must be Stay Awake in developer options that is causing this bug. As stated a reboot fixes the issue temporarily, after the reboot the Stay Awake option gets turned off on its own, If I turn it on again the issue appears again shortly after. So somehow the Stay Awake option must be getting messed up and keeping the screen on even when not charging.
My workaround is turn off Stay Awake and Use Tasker to keep the phone awake while charging. Not what I'd like, I'd prefer the system work correctly, but it works for now.
Thanks
first off are you using a different keyboard other then the Samsung one ?
i had this happen to me using Swift.
just reboot your device and you should be golden.
Dont know why the keyboard would do this to the phone but thats what it was and all i did was reboot and Timeout works fine...

Don't think the keyboard is a major issue with this. I've had this issue both when using swift and just the SS keyboard. I am more inclined to think like the other poster said that it has to deal with SmartStay. I haven't tried turning it off then rebooting, going to see if that works now. It sucks because toggling SmartStay is really useful, but i'm concerned with burn-in and especially with a battery that lasts 10hrs+, that could be an issue.

just my 2 cents. When i switched to swift from samsung key i just rebooted and it corrected the issue. Im sure theres a permanent fix but works as a temp one imo
