[Q] Homerun Battle 3D - installed update, knows my phone is rooted - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I just downloaded todays update. When I opened the app, I got a message that my phone is rooted (which it is) and to return to original firmware. Then the game shuts down and you can't play it. Is this going to start happening with all market apps??
Anyway to still play the game with the update and stay rooted??

Best thing to do would be to leave a 1 star rating for game with your comment. if the devs get enough they should stop caring if its rooted.

1 Star Review!!
Just did it, and there many others doing the same thing!!
Good call! Hopefully it will get the developers to do something about it!!

as much as I agree that its annoying, I understand where the dev is coming from. If you want to prevent your users from cheating, thats probably the easiest way to do it.

Cheating?
How does having a rooted phone enable any form of cheating?
The game plays the same as when the phone wasn't rooted??

It's not just annoying, it's also probably not legal. When i bought the game this was not a condition of purchase, what they did was change the rules months after they had no problem selling it to me. It would be a different story if that was a condition from title launch but you can't sell me the game and in-app items and then purposely disable it... Am I wrong??
At the very least they should refund us for the ole' switcheroo!
This is the reward I get for choosing not to pirate anything Android...they sure aren't making a strong case against it pulling horsecrap like this! Why do i have a feeling cracked copies won't have this issue (you know, the ones the cheaters will use anyway)...

if I'm not mistaken, in order to cheat (in almost any game), you'll need to modify files that are not accessible to the user unless they're rooted. I may be wrong, though.

But here's the problem: I'm rooted but haven't modified anything relating to the game. I paid for the game, never cheated, and now I can't play it. That's not logical rationale by any stretch...
They suggest that I unroot just to play a game. So I'd lose backup and cache cleaning and CM7 for one game to work. How is that reasonable??
I guess cheating in a GAME (may I just state again that this is all over a game) is more important than a functional device.
If they told me this before I bought it then I just wouldn't have bothered, nor would most Android users... Where iphone users barely know how to change their ringtones, we root and Rom, they should understand that or not bother...

I am really surprised non of the major Android blog sites have picked up on this...

I think it's poop, I agree with the notion of 1 star to the developer!

This is the email I just got back from the Dev:
Thank you for your inquiry.
Please expect the next update very soon. Previously blocked users will be able to access the game again.
We are sorry for this inconvenience.
However, please keep in mind, if you do have a rooted phone and have problems in the game with the future, it is recommended to turn your phone back to a stable OS environment.
Thank you for your patience.

Samsung Vibrant Questions

Hey guys, newbie here and I got some questions for y'all.
I am a longtime iPhone user, thinking about switching over to the Vibrant. I'm used to the jailbreaking/unlocking of the iphone...are similar things able to be done to the Vibrant?

Ok a few things.
Yes, you can root the vibrant and install custom roms.
On the iPhone you can install hacked apps, meaning you don't pay for them, techinically you can do the same on an Android phone by just having the apk file, however this is frowned upon because that is stealing. Why not just pay for the app? Apps are cheap on Android.
If you are a current iPhone user and if you purchase the Vibrant, YOU WILL BE UNHAPPY. I suggest you wait for the iPhone 5 which will be released in June, or wait for the dual core Android phones coming out. Do not get the original Vibrant.
Ps...the Vibrant 4G is going to be released soon. You can also get the Nexus S at best buy.
btw coming to xda and saying you don't pay for apps and you steal them was not a wise idea.
Go back to the iphone, this isn't the place for you.

Stay classy!
OP:
Yes, you can "jailbreak", for Android it is called root, and in turn you can install custom ROMs, Kernels, and for the Vibrant "modems" (radio's on other phones). As for "free" apps, Android, unlike iOS, has TONS of free apps already. Developers tend to offer a free and paid version, main difference is the free version has ads in it. Developers actually make more money off the ad revenue (typically) than the paid versions. There are still apps that are only paid, or the full version are paid only, and to be very honest trying to get those for free is BS in my opinion, especially given the prices.
This site is FULL of all the info you need to root any Android phone and start loading custom ROMs. It is very addictive, and compared to the iPhone, it is like living in America versus living in China in terms of freedom to do what you want. In China (iPhone) you are limited in your ways, and can do as you please to an extent. Where as in America (Android) you are free to do as you please, but have a great infrastructure to help guide you and aid you in such venturers.

I am not on AT&T, I am on T-Mobile. I have had a 3G for the last 2 years, but with the new ios4.3 comes out, it will not have an update for the 3G, they are getting fazed out. So I'm moving away from the iphone for a while, may get a 4 down the road.
I understand cracked apps are illegal, a TMO CSR pointed me to this website, so if cracked apps aren't talked about here fine, I didn't know. I was just going where I was told by Tmobile to get information regarding it. Simple as that.
I have a free 2 year upgrade at TMobile right now, so I'm looking between the Vibrant and the MyTouch 4G. Right now I'm using a Blackberry Bold 9780.

Warez is not just frowned upon, but is grounds for banishment on XDA, and actually every single decent Android site. Explaining how to get it, where to get it, or giving it out is a major no no, and asking (especially after being told) is a no no as well.
This isn't iOS where everything costs money, this is Android where you can literally get 95% of apps for free from the market. There is no need to steal, not that there is on iOS (I have an iPad, love it, and have paid for my fair share of apps even though it is jailbroken).
Lastly, if that is your only desire in a phone, then just don't get one. If all you want to do is use your phone to steal, then you don't deserve to have a phone.

Welcome to XDA! I came to the Vibrant from the iPhone 3G and I love it, as one has said you can steal apps but no one here will help you with that, also apps seem to generally cheaper on android than they are on iOS.
Depending on what you are looking for you may be happier where your currently have. Android's market is growing quiet well but I feel that it currently doesn't match the iOS market when it comes to games, so if games are your thing I would stay away (but we do have great emulators!) Many things may have changed in iOS since I used it last back in 3.0 something another.
Now few things I love personally love about android! Google Voice is easily used, Ive been using it for about 2 years now and haven't given out my real number since, its the best! Google maps is amazing, always getting updates haven't used a standalone gps since. You can customize the desktop however you feel please (don't need winterboard and everything, its just a ton easier). Swype is pure amazing, I could never go back to normal texting after getting use to it, super fast! And finally googles voice integration, you can talk and have it type what is said, you can have it search for you or even open your google maps and have it set your navigation!
As I'm sure you've noticed by now the forum has a lot of idiots who have nothing to add to the community except their derogatory remarks, sadly they don't seem to ever go away do they?

Rooting does what jail breaking did for the iphone. Allows you to do what you normally couldn't. Its also really easy to do, there are a few different things you can use but they all get the same thing done.
When you root you can install new rom's like a 2.3 rom if you wish. There developers who change them how they wish and then share them with the community, you can find them in Vibrant Android Development part of the forums. You can also download new kernels that will allow you to overclock your phone or even underclock if you wish.
In the android market there are some apps that also require you to root your phone to use them. One such app is Titanium Backup, it will back all the apps and stuff you have downloaded so if you install a new rom or lose your phone or something you can easily reinstall everything.
Basically rooting fully opens up your phone, allowing anything.

Even if/when we get an unlocked leak (which I am absolutely confidant we will get an "accidental" leak top shut us up) there is a good chance that these leaks will start drying up. By time the Evo4D5G comes out next year we won't even expect a phone to not be crypto-signed.
If they don't do this 'officially', and out loud in public then we have absolutely no guarantees that they ever will...and probably will not.
Unfortunately doing it out loud and in public is the _last_ thing they want to do. They want to bend to our demands even less than they want to lock damned phones. I'm pretty convinced that this is due to a back-room deal to get things like Netflix and GoogleMovies and Blockbuster approved by the MPAAs of the world.
...I'm still not sure--aside from tether--what locking up a phone will actually prevent that will save or make them money besides extending the useful life of the devices......but the thing is that those of us who know how to do these things in the first place are also the early-adopter crowd who will pay top price and wait in line at 4am to get a device that doesn't have all the bugs shaken out of it yet.....My mom, my brother, most people I work with...most people on the planet--who do not know nor care about rooting and custom roms--are the ones who will keep these phones as long as possible anyway...with or without upgrading the rom...if they could just click-n-upgrade to CM7 or whatever....well, that'd be a different story...they wouldn't upgrade till the phone caught fire....but these people wouldn't know or care to learn how to do this anyway....
...so they lock *US* out of the phone, we don't buy them....they lose those sales...or they don't lock us out, we buy them, root them, upgrade them, and then line up to be the first to buy the next device....win win, right? I just don't get it....are they scared of '1 click upgrades' being developed for everyone to use? I doubt that....there are plenty of 1-click-root procedures and ROManager anuyway....that's 80% of the way there....and nobody does that anyway...I just don't get it, wtf are they locking out (or in)??? I don't see how this benefits anyone....is it only about tether? cuz I could just just as much data listening to pandora all month as I could downloading a movie tethered to my tablet or whatever....
I just don't get it.

I think you hit on a couple points here, but really I think what happened has to do with HTC Watch (their own mobile movie rental service) and the contracts they're signing with studios to provide more on-demand content.
Movie/Music/Game studios probably won't allow anyone to distribute their copy-written content without extreme steps to assure them that the manufacturer is doing everything they can to avoid piracy/illegal downloading &/or access.
I'm willing to bet that bootloader and partition encryption is something they've gone the length of assuring these companies so to be able to provide on-demand content as a revenue generating service. If it's in contracts, then we're screwed.

couldn't we just use the mirroring hdmi thing to a tv and then from there use a recorder to copy the movie over. I mean i am just wondering if that's possible and if it is it just means that no matter what you try to do from people stealing content, people will just figure out a way to do it.
It's a streaming service.

I agree but at the same time that would make it kind of pointless for me. Honestly, I could never see myself sitting down for an entire movie on my phone. Hopefully that is not the case.
that would be dumb if it didn't. I can't stand watching a movie on my phone let alone pay for it just to be seen on a 4 inch screen

I hadn't even heard of HTC Watch up until this post. I'm absolutely convinced 100% that this is the smoking gun in the matter of "why?"
Now, if that is the case they will NEVER be able to officially unlock these phones without violating these contracts. We can only hope for leaks...and to be honest, I've never seen so much internal development software leaked by any other company in my life so reliably. Sure, there have been companies with bigger leaks or more leaks but never with such reliability....OTA's before they go OTA, eng h-boots, test versions, etc etc etc, it is absolutely ludicrous. I have a hard time thinking that it is entirely accidental or just one rogue guy who hasn't been identified and fired....repeatedly.
But will the ferocity of these contracts undermine even these leaks?
Why don't they just super-encrypt a 'trusted pipeline' in the phone once you unlock the phone you permanently disable the ability of that pipeline to ever operate ever again? I'm all for that. Pump your locked-down content through that pipeline...I don't care if I never open that pipe up ever again.
HTC's gotta come up with something or this is it for all of us I'm sure. I checked out the NexusS4G...nice phone, feels cheap but then again maybe I'm just used to lugging around this monster sized and weighted Evo. Screen looked nice, bone-stock android was a pleasure to see. Though I'll wait for the Nexus3, or whatever they call it. Sure to be dual core by then....
I guess I'll just get Nexus' for life...this is all bull**** and totally not worth the worry now that I really look at it. They don't want customers 'like us' apparently, Samsung/Google do. 3D is a gimmick anyway. Just give me dual cores and all of the standard features with a 4 point something screen. After the 30fps debacle last year I swore that I wouldn't buy an HTC again...but forgot all about their horrible attitude cuz it got fixed here and they used the code in an OTA. That even gave me faith in them...like the Open Source system is working exactly as intended...but....take and take and take and never give back.....HTC? Never again.

Order & Chaos - Working on Prime!

I am going to post this document that I made into this thread later when I have the rights to post images/links. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Anyway, here is a word document that explains how to install Order and Chaos onto the Transformer Prime using a Chinese method.
ROOT REQUIRED TO GET THE GRAPHICS WORKING! Chainfire 3D is used to emulate a Qualcomm processor. Without this the game will not get past the "Play" button after character creation.
tegra2 apk of order and chaos works great on tf prime without any further patching and rooting. But its not legal to post it here, so you guys should look it up.
u could still pm me
can i be lost here?
ok so a brain fart, right?
why isn't it legal to post information about running a market game on the tab? is the tegra2 an illegal version of the game?
i'm just a little confused and have been interested in this game for a while so i wanted to post this to see if maybe there was a way that i could finger out a way to get it running on my tab...
not like i need an excuse to play another mmorpg erf.
any extrapolation of the above posts would be greatly beneficial to me and maybe other people as well.
thanks in advance
I'm assuming the game is paid so if you would post the .apk here it would be considered warez which is a no no

dood, i TOTALLY apologize for my stupids. so i did some research because when i saw your post, i thought ''theres no WAY i paid 7 bucks for that!". order and chaos ran on sale a while back for a buck. i got it then. my bad. can we please still be friends?
So I somehow managed to find a copy of Order and Chaos which worked perfectly on my unrooted prime, alone, and without the help of other hacks or apps. I found it simply by searching "Order and Chaos tegra 2". I have no idea if it was hacked or altered, but it just worked. It was able to download and log into version 1.0.9
As irony would have it, on the very same night I found a working version (3 or 4 nights ago at this point), my celebration was cut short when all the servers went down and updated to version 1.1.0. Of course now my 1.0.9 was unable to log into the servers and I haven't been able to find a working version of 1.1.0.
Its out there, a copy of 1.1.0 which doesn't require the rooting and altering initially suggested by this post. If anyone finds it, let us know where. It would be a remarkable feat and a great in-your-face to Gameloft.
I'm currently working on getting a 1.1.0 version working. So far I have it starting but then crashing before "Touch to Start Playing" pops up :/

I hadn't realized that it does a device check *after* the data download. I thought the device check was initiated prior to the data download.
You can bypass the device check by downloading the cracked version by Muzhiwan (google it). However, I have been struggling to get it to get to the Main Menu. Crashes before Touch to Continue pops up. If anyone manages to get it to work it would be great.
I think the problem is the graphics renderer. It all works until graphics have to be rendered (loaded at touch to continue). Chainfire has had no luck so far getting this to work. :/
New update taking care of a lot of issues rwported by users.
Tried going the Muzhiean route but their PC software is in Chinese.

i bought the game today on my galaxy nexus. Played fine on it. Then i did a titanium backup, took the apk, then shared the apk to my TP.
Game loads up but a message pops up to say the device is not compatible but "you can try anyway". So i clicked OK. and bam... it just closes.
i guess the only way to get it on the TP is when gameloft decide its about time they fix it for us!

HTC inspire AT&T bypass lockscreen password

My daughter has a HTC Inspire & recently lost it due to behavior unbecoming for a young lady!! My question is is there a way to gain root access in order to blow out the password file & access the phone or any other trick that wont reset everything? If im being honest, Im scared to death of what I might find but also believe its something that needs to be addressed before something even worse happens! Any of you with daughters know what im talking about.
I guess I could just record a youtube video of me putting a couple rounds in it!
Thanks in advance!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357490
this should do it
That looks like a nice program to instal on the device after I get into it but as it stands now the phone is locked & I dont even think its even rooted at this time! I need a tool or windows download of some sort. Any help greatly appreciated!
How about this?
http://androidadvices.com/unlock-android-phone-forgot-pin-password-screen-lock/
It should work but it will require you to know the Gmail account (username and password) that your daughter used when she setup the phone in order to access android market on your PC and download the app.
Good luck

Do you know the # of characters for the password?
Start by trying things that you know your daughter is into... favourite band, tv show, etc.. or simple things like her birthday, her best friend's name
But honestly, why wouldn't you just ask her?
Tell her AT&T needs to know her password so they can try to recover the phone... just get creative, then once you unlock it install the app and you're good to go!
Yeah I figured out the password & tried to install the program but it says for security your phone is set to block installation of non market apps & takes me to settings but i couldnt find any options to allow me to do it.
Is this a relevant article or is there an newer or easier way?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706887
Go to
Menu > Settings > Applications
Check the "unknown sources" box, good to go.
Not sure if AT&T still locks their phones from doing this.. but if so, the option won't be there..
I can't imagine that they would do still lock them from sideloading because then you wouldn't be able to use the Amazon app store..
Let me know

Jesus man ......... i so wish you hadn't posted this bro ........*sigh*.
I have 6 year old twin girls ......... and one of them Gretel ........ already has the most inappropriate friends you could possible imagine ...............
Am not being 'square' in believing 6 year olds do not need high heels am I??
That 6 year olds encouraging each other to kiss boys is unnecessarily early??
Or that in 2012 hair length and colour of garment should not be a big gender signifier??
Dood .......... please tell me it gets better??
Yeah its NOT giving me that option..... Im updating the software in hopes that fixes it. any other work arounds for sideloading if not?
And no sir unfortunately it DOESNT get better! Im gonna end up in prison!! LOL
No offence, but at six years old, you should be able to dictate who her friends are - so long as you have the mother's (wife's?) support
I do hear what you are saying.. environmentally it's hard nowadays.. so much inappropriate influence from media/friends/etc
but my five year old daughter does what I say.. end of story.. it all boils down to the parents. Act now brother! Save the children! (seriously) it only gets harder.

Yeah that would work where it not for the fact that my kids are at school full time 5 days a week 9am-3pm and the inappropriate kids are her school friends. I have no control over who see hangs with at school ........ just like every other parent.
Looking for solutions for something similar to this.
maybe a free solution..... Anyone heard or have any expeirence with anything like this?
mobile-spy.com
Go to htcsense.com, log on to the accpunt she useful for HTC apps. From there you can track her phone, forward messages and calls to another phone. Lock the phone, etc..... I love it because I lost it once and I tracked it down and found it, also I was able to forward everything to my galaxy s.

Why not install a different rom? I think some don't even use gapps or can sandbox them.
edit: Here's a new thread maybe that could be a good starting point.
[CLOSED] I'm done with XDA

Then compare it as designed. Log in. Otherwise you're not doing the factory rom justice.
if by justice you mean features that require internet and my personal information and habits, those are features that i dont need or will ever use.
if you are talking general speed and battery usage and functioning with the apps i use the most, then logging into google on my phone is not needed.
the phone might have the power to calculate the need parameters to build a space ship and put a man on mars, but using that power to smooth out my crows feet, socialize online looking for 5000 likes and 2 millions followers , is not a improvement in tech use.

If you know what you're doing you can log in with a Google account and not give out all the information you mentioned. There are a lot of privacy concerns these days all you need to do is some research. I'm sure you can figure something out that will accomplish your goals. Good luck.
Try freezing Google systems and Play services.
There are different apps that can do this, but you will need root.

I think he means not cutting off your nose to spite your face. Google credentials are needed for Play Store, like for keeping Carrier Services and whatnot updated. It's possible to push back against data harvesters while using stock Android, especially with root access. But it sounds like you'd rather take your concerns to the next level with something like CalyxOS and a Play Store alternative.
the only thing i dont want is to log into anything to use what i paid for.
the device is not crippled, its rooted and i have already installed 150 apps and disabled everything google i can disable.
i dont want the google experience, i want to experience the device i bought.,

So, you don't want the Google experience yet you bought a Google-branded phone? Just a bit of an oxymoron there. Seriously, while I could ask why you bought a Google phone if you don't intend to use Google services, it would be a pointless waste of time and energy.
Install a custom ROM that doesn't use Google services and don't look back. Just don't complain when you can't take advantage of a Google-exclusive feature as a result.

I truly do not understand people like you.

You do realize that as a society we are all walking around with computers thousands of time faster than we had sitting on our desks 20 years ago. That have dozens of sensors, connected to wireless networks, that can cover nearly every inch of the surface of the planet. What you're worried about is what we (the collective nerds/geeks/privacy advocates) were screaming at the top of our lungs back in the 90s...before it was too late.
It's too late son, That ship sailed, sank, was resurfaced, and put into a museum so younger generations could see what it was like in the way back when before times.
Good luck with your quest to use factory google pixel phone and rom without a Gmail account. That's surly the only way they are tracking you.

Everyone read what you wrote don't be a martyr. The fact remains you didn't get an answer yet you continue to berate members here trying to guide you in a direction that is concurrent with reality. You seem to be delusional and contrary, simply looking for an argument and to make your voice heard over reasonable discussion. It's not working. We tried to help but you will have none of it. So perhaps it's time to find another place where your diatribe will matter. As I said before, good luck.

let me guess you have nothing better to do but try ****ting on people. maybe you should go to reddit and not be someplace people try to learn about their device and what you can customize.

It wasn't productive from the first post. It simply is an excuse for him to rant and rave about how Google is a data whore and all that. I can understand that, as I once was like him. Perhaps I am in the wrong here for being so blasé over Google's data collection, but I stopped worrying years ago about it. I figured the benefits outweighed the liabilities.
It's rather entitled to expect to have all the benefits of a smartphone while having none of the liabilities. I think if I were truly that worried about data collection to rant about it in a public forum I wouldn't be using a phone at all. After all, every phone made today, from the most expensive smartphone to the cheapest dumbphone, has sensors in it that can track you, even when the phone is off.
To the OP, TANSTAAFL.
