Hi,
First of all, could you please post a thread topic?
This way, members that might be able to help you become aware of the problem much faster.
Regarding your problem:
There is no file browser like in Android built-in.
It should not be necessary, because all installed applications are displayed in Programs.
Additionally, you need to be at least Interop-unlocked (if not even fully unlocked) for this Tethering-procedure to work.
Is your phone unlocked? If so, which unlock does it have?

thanks for yr speedy reply..
no my ph is not unlock as i ve just updated, also i m searching for a tutorial to do so, as i jumped straight from 7.0.7004 to 7.10.7720 i m not quite sure where to start or which to follow cause i m not used to win lingo yet
Incidentally i do not see "Programs" in my ph, is it there by default?
Appreciate yr help
Hi again,
Yes, the Programs are there by default
When you are viewing the main screen (just press the Home-button, the one with the Windows-flag, to get there).
Then flick the screen to the left (moving your finger from right to left) and you should see a list of installed programs (including "Settings", "Office", ...).
Regarding the unlock, there are several ways:
- the official one (obtaining a developer account for WP7 from Microsoft and registering your phone to it)
- the semi-official way (http://labs.chevronwp7.com/) which is a cooperation of Chevron and Microsoft
- the unofficial way (via flashing a pre-unlocked Rom, see below for details)
Both official options cost real money, so you might be tempted to go for the cheap (aka free) version, especially if you are not a developer.
To do this, you will have to flash a custom Rom on your phone, which is already unlocked.
The additional advantage of this method is that you can chose a custom Rom that has Internet Sharing activated by default (via the application that was introduced to some handsets via Mango).
HOWEVER, you will lose your warranty and (at the moment) all the data on the phone.
Flashing will format the phone, which will delete all savegames, SMS, eMails, ... you name it
This should not be a major aspect if you just got your phone.
Everything that has been synchronized to the Microsoft cloud or some other storage can be restored later.
BUT at the moment there is no way to backup your SMS, savegames and settings.
(You can do a full backup for the sake of returning to an official rom, which will include ALL the data - i.e. SMS, settings, ... - however, this backup can only be restored by 100%, therefore you will lose all the data you stored on the phone AFTER doing the backup).
That's that
If you should like to flash a custom Rom, just head over to the Rom Development-segment of the Mozart-Forum and choose a custom Rom.
But beware, depending on your SPL you might have to go through some hoops to flash it or it might even be impossible...
Also, the Rom development-forum provides several threads regarding all the details of flashing a Rom, which SPLs are ok and which to avoid.
So I guess you should be fine if you take some time to read into the matter
Good Luck.
Thks FrozenLord
Ive just restored 7.0.7008 fr 7.10.7720 cos the battery is atrocious it was fully charged n i sent a few emails, sms and 3 ph calls then i went to bed, the battery was flat in 11hrs, when it was on 7004 it lasted 2days
I had a look at the dev section and i kinda like deepshinning rom which i ve to figure out how to flash it. Tho the ph is only 6mths old now i m not bothered abt the warranty the only thing is that do i ve to go back to 7004 to be able to flash the rom?
current: os 7.0.7008.0
fw 2250.09.12902.728
rd 5.69.09.05a.22.50.50.21u
bootloader 5.0.2250.1(130781)
A pointer or a link to flash the ds rom will be much appreciated
thanks again
This is my Lumia 800 version of my popular Samsung Focus ROM that can be found HERE.
Ok folks, I've been running versions of my newest build on my Focus, Lumia 800, and HD2 now for about a week and all three devices are rock solid so time for a public release.
So here are the fruits of my labor. My goal was to stay as minimal and as stock as possible. Windows Phone as it is supposed to be. Most of the changes are 'under-the-hood' type changes so your device will still look stock but you will have all the perks of an unlocked ROM.

Yes it is. I pulled the firmware off navifirm then tinkered with it just a little.
Does it have Bing maps or just nokia maps? Because the 8858 firmware for the RM-809 lumia 710 only has nokia maps, which are not that good on the area I live. (bing maps are far better on this area)

Just interop, I could cook one up with full unlock but it's not something I personally use on my Lumia and that's all this ROM really is, just what I use on my phone. I just figured I would share it incase someone else wanted a clean no frills rom like I do.
That would be very nice.
Especially accessing the file System is something i Need.
You can do many things much faster, when filesystem is accessable.
greetings
Can you make a version for the Lumia 710?

Maybe tonight I will have some time to make another build. I will warn you though I don't plan to flash it to my phone to test it because I just got done resetting it back up and it's the phone I use day to day. It should be fine though, as I have made changes like these many times for my other phones that I don't use as my day to day phone and they always go fine.

Maybe, I would never be able to test any part of it though because I don't have a 710. Again, like I said above, I don't think it will be a problem but I figure it's a risk you should be aware of. Normally, I prefer to risk my own device first before I ask others to.
P.S. for the 710 where you looking for a mirror of the ROM I already have up or a full unlocked one?

It's not cab-updateable and cannot be updated by zune either (in case there's a new build on the way).
Can someone make it possible to disable annoying notifications from sms/email in lock screen and when in use , unlocked.

Do you mean the small icons along the bottom that show the number of unread text/emails you have? If so I have no idea, I don't think anyone has ever wanted to do that. I know in WP8 you can select what notifications are shown but there is nothing like that in WP7.

By cons, do not quote (entirely) the OP.
Hi.
Before my question I'll write about my experience because I am sure it will help many many people.
As many of you, I always ROOT my smartphones.
Nowadays, the new phones, they come with this new technology to avoid root and other things called " OEM Lock " under the Developer's Options.
Following every step provided in the root guide for you phone, the new step to enable OEM Unlock under Developer Options
is a must!
The only thing that they don't say is that you MUST leave OEM Unlock ALWAYS ENABLED during and AFTER the root, and not only during the root
process.
Not knowing that, what did I do? Right After rooting my Samsung Note 5 I disabled the OEM Unlock. When I restarted the smartphone, it got into something called FAP Protection Black Screen where you are not able to leave not even if you try to root the phone again with the img file!
If you get in the FAP Protection Screen, like I did, despair will take over, I promise! And Google will not help you!
Is there a solution?
I found one, but not in any Google Page.
You need to download the firware img file for your phone, exactly same model,
in my case it was SM-N920G (Samsung Note 5), and for your specific country. Luckily for my phone it was not so hard to find, just hard to download (1,7GB with average 15 kB/s speed!). You will find different versions, some related to a Phone Company Operator that your country has, other related to no operator at all (sure I chose that).
After you get the firware file, just use Odin with that file to flash the phone, just like how you did to root the phone, but now, instead of using the root img file with Odin Software, you'll use the firmware file. That will not only solve the problem and give you access to your phone again, but in my case the Operator Flag disappeared and the data and apps installed miraculously were intact! I was pretty sure I was supposed to lose everything, but that didn't happen!
I'm sure what I wrote above will help many desperate people out there!
Now, my main question here:
You can never disable OEM Unlock in your life, with a rooted phone, period! So, it's really dangerous to leave the developer options enabled, allowing anyone that uses the phone to change it, even if by accident. In my case, as another example, besides rooting my phone, I rooted my father's phone too (because it was previously mine). I'd like to avoid by any means that by any chance me, or my father, disable to the OEM Unlock.
So, my question:
If I disable the Developer Option in order to "hide" it, will the changes that I did inside it remain working perfectly? I'm afraid that if I disable the developer options, somehow, it might take every option inside it back to the "default", just like it was before I enabled the developer Options, meaning in this case, OEM Unlock would get DISABLED again!
Is it safe to disable the Developer Options when OEM Unlock is Enable and MUST Remain like that?
Thank you.
Lost a night of sleep for the same problem with a Samsung S8.
This should be added to *every* mod guide.
In my case was worse too...if you root the phone and wipe data, when you open first time developer option you'll find "OEM Unlock" disabled (but I assume it's enabled at bootloader level). So when I check / uncheck it I doom my phone to lock on next restart...
how to get to boot menu on htc u12 plus, smallest width setting got adjusted wrong in developer options and power got cycled, all I can see on lock screen are 1,2 and 3 cant unlock, any ideas?
I got the device today, but OEM Unlock is missing from Developer Settings. I tried the date and time hack, but it didn't work. I put it 15 days back. Then a month back. Then I put it to the earliest possible date, January of 2004. When I reboot the device, OEM Unlock still does not show up.
How do I get past this? I can't even proceed to anything without activating OEM Unlock.
T220, OEM Unlock won't show up even after date trick.
Ok I got OEM Unlock to show up. Follow these instructions EXACTLY.
Factory Reset Device (Sorry but this will happen when you unlock anyway, and has to be done first.)
Skip everything on the first boot setup including WiFi settings (you'll connect to the Internet later).
I did nothing else, didn't even enable dark theme.
Enable developer options and disable automatic system updates from there.
Connect to a WiFi network.
DISCONNECT from internet after a few seconds. You'll see it trying to update things in the pull down menu, disconnect from internet, you don't want it to update anything. It just needs to be connected long enough to update the day and time to the correct day and time, and register your device. If it didn't work, it didn't register your device yet.
For me, it did get to the point where there was a notification that said, "Finish setting up your Tab A7 Lite." DO NOT finish setting anything up, but do make sure internet is disconnected. Ignore notification, but you should see that.
Disable automatic software update. Settings > Software Update > turn off.
Go to General > Date and Time settings and select for the time to be set manually (don't touch time zone). Set the date to be EXACTLY 10 days BEHIND from your current date.
Go to Developer Options, and OEM Unlock should be there!
If it still doesn't work, you may have to go to extreme measures, but I didn't have to. But first just make sure you did the above steps EXACTLY.
Go here for extreme measures if you did EXACTLY like above and still didn't work (my instructions above were a bit different) https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/a7-2017-w-binary-9-rmm-state-unlock.4057831/post-82049513

Does this technique work for any T220 in any region? I'm thinking about getting the T220, but I read in another post by @tom.android that Samsung doesn't allow OEM Unlock in North America.
Update - Can confirm that this works! Thanks xbt-!
Hello Devs,
It's sad to see that to date, Android has not really found a robust solution against theft and loss of devices. Apple's approach with the iTunes/iCloud lock when marked stolen might not be the ultimate solution but it's the best ever to date.
it's sad to see android devices when stolen by the thief performing a complete wipe using the EDL, bootloader, and recovery software and they just get the job done without even confirming if it's the actual owner.
I'd like to ask once again. if there's no option or mods to prevent the power button from functioning when the screen is locked until it has been successfully unlocked before one can access full power menu features? or an option to hard lock the flash partition with a code that anytime it has been rebooted into download mode, will ask for a password/code before proceeding to wipe the device completely. ? this is something consumers and manufacturers should start taking into consideration. all this might not sound too important until you accidentally lost your device. any suggestions?
