I want to know opinions on Skyrocket vs SGS2? I am in my return window but not sure which phone is better. I believe the exynos processor is the best on the market, so will the 1.5 processor in this be better or worse? Thanks

We have a development forum, which shouldn't be cluttered with the random crap being thrown out there right now .
I would without a doubt go for the Og GS2. The CPU chip set is the major gain on going with it, although the Skyrocket does have a minor gain on speed, the chip used is garbage compared to the OG.

with a smile.
Had mine for a day. No noticeable lag and ran 5 straight quadrant scores over 3100. Dev support will not be as strong as og but to reiterate other posts, if you're in an LTE market it is worth consideration. I got mine for only 99.99 so to me it was a steal. Coming from the i777, noticeable screen quality difference especially in colors at low brightness and pixelated small images. Zoom and swiping is less smooth but not noticeable unless you had the i777. Battery drains slightly faster as well but the tradeoff is lte speed. If you are in a market with LTE, worth a look...otherwise hands down i777

So... the "garbage chip" is faster? I agree that it's not as elegant in design as the OGS2, but it benchmark's just fine and has a much higher network speed. (Even without a custom kernel to improve on it yet.) It's also much higher on the CPU INT benchmark's, which impacts the majority of applications. I'm liking mine just fine and I've used both phones now.

I believe I said "I don't". What's the point of having device specific forums to discuss a whole other device in that forum unless its for comparative reasons. Most of such topics are the same as the last. According to the forum rules I read search is one of the first options before posting. Most of the skyrocket topics are all saying or asking the same questions...

So tired of the processor debate... the reality of it is.. in 2-4 months time, there will be another phone with a better processor; since S4 and OMAP4 series are all slated for Feb.
Can we just say and leave it as is, "Buy the phone that suits YOUR OWN needs".
What about this?
So we shouldn't be argue any more...

I highly recommend the Galaxy S II. If you wait for something better, then you will always be waiting because newer, bigger phones will always be coming out. Right now, at this very moment, the GS2 is the BEST phone to get, and I believe it will remain on top for AT LEAST the next year.
In short as I',m sure at least 97% of the users here will tell you... I'm gonna say... Yes. You should. However if you don't mind waiting then keep waiting until the next great wonder phone drops.
"...something better", define your term.
HW spec., I'm sure there are phones that has higher freq., higher lcd resolution, .... that might not be suitable for "better", especially development supports.
Skyrocket is one example and Skyrocket HD is on the list to be released.
The Note will be out shortly, I'd guess less than a month.

AT&T Note variant is crippled... Crapdragon means no pulling any goodness from the GT-N7000 community.
It's not like the Captivate being able to pull from I9000 and us being able to pull from I9100. Yes, our development community is fairly small - but it doesn't need to be large because nearly everything happening in the massive I9100 community is applicable to our devices too.
The AT&T Note won't have that.
Yes - only if you are in non-LTE market/area
No - if you are in 4g LTE market or near-future LTE market
Starting Feb'12 at&t is going to introduce a lot of 4g LTE phones including skyrocket HD.
Even in an LTE market, I would not recommend any of the LTE devices. LTE is not yet mature, just like 3G wasn't mature when the first iPhone was released. (One of the few things Apple has done that I fully support is not jumping on the OMG NEW RADIO TECH!!!! bandwagon when it was CLEAR that the new radio tech was bad for battery life and phone size.)

WHy do people say this? I am in a LTE area and had a Skyrocket before jumping ship, data speeds were faster but its not like HSPA+ is Edge or anything.
Definitely. It's such an amazing phone, and the people on this forum are really helpful.
I don't think anyone here will say no haha.
I say yes you should get it. I Recently came from the Inspire(DHD).It took me awhile to get use to how light Samsung phones feel compare to HTC. Like mention believe if you live in a Lte area go ahead and get the Skyrocket or wait for the Skyrocket HD. I would recommend going to a local At&t or retail store and try the phone out to see if its to your liking. You don't want to pay for a phone your not going to like.

And also remember that Samsungs touchwiz doesn't seem as polish as HTC sense to some people(I did see something about sense on the gs2 but not sure if it's real or finished).Touchwiz is more based on speed and performance then it is show. The cool thing about the Samsung galaxy s2 is that thanks to amazing developers like Entropy we are able to run the international ones roms with hellraiser.if I really like HTC build n UI then go with the vivid.if you want yo try Android in a new amazing way get the gs2.like I said before try them both out at the store cause when it comes down to it it's your phone and it has to fit you.

Hey guys, I currently have the Epic 4G Touch with Sprint but there is a good chance that I might jump ship and come over to AT&T. If I do, the GS2 would most likely be the phone I will get. It's gonna be tough working with such a tiny screen (lol!) but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Don't want the Skyrocket because it doesn't have an Exynos in it and the HSPA+ should be plenty fast for my needs.
Anyway, all Android phones come with their fair share of problems out of the box, what am I going to have to deal with if I get the SGS2? Any radio issues? Battery problems? Screen problems? How does AT&T handle tethering? I heard about them catching people and changing them to a hotspot plan, is that true? Also, does AT&T still block app sideloading?
I plan on rooting but remaining on the stock ROM, assuming it's as good as the Epic Touch's stock ROM. Just gonna debloat the crap out of it and use Autostarts to keep everything under control. Should I go ahead and assume that rooting it is fairly easy?
Also, how is AT&Ts customer service to work with? I have been with Sprint for many years and have gotten manipulating them down to a science. I always get the latest and greatest phones, and never have to pay more than the subsidized price. I'm kinda nervous about switching because I'm worried I won't be able to pull that crap with AT&T.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Trust me, I've already read through a whole bunch of crap. I am just looking for some personal experiences here without having to read through page after page of meaningless drivel just to find a few simple answers.
only downside i can think of is if you drop it from the 10th floor the screen will crack... and it doesnt seem to work well in the pool.
It is a great device, only complaint i have is the non HD screen. If you are coming from a phone with high res like a iphone you will notice. If you arent coming from a high res phone you will never notice
You might have more issues with AT&T than the phone. Overall its a great phone with lots of dev support. there's a reason why AT&T is always at the bottom of the Lissy when out comes to customer services.

Most of the issues can be found by searching.
Hardware issues: Some people have had issues with the USB port breaking. Not common, but it seems that 90% of hardware failures are this.
The AP Mobile widget in UCKH7 will eat your data. If you're here I assume you'll be rooting - so not a problem for you. Kill it with fire and you're good.
The OTA update (UCKK6) sucks infected donkey balls. Lots of battery issues. Again - easy to avoid if you're here.

Ha! I post there from time to time! I was one of the Android Source admins before it merged with Android Task Force. Haven't used this profile pic on FB for a while now so you've got some good memory.
Hardware = USB problems with the connection port. Blotchy screen on dark blacks in a dark room. Not noticeable until then. It's a side-effect of SAMOLED screens. Burn-in most I can figure. These two problems are fairly rare (on this forum, I'd say 1 out of maybe 15 people complain of one or the other hardware issues).
Software: let's face it - 2.3.6 sucks. The update broke bluetooth HID devices, meaning no bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Occasional reports of wifi breaking, but that's due to the retards who never read and flash willy nilly from our sister forum and phone, the international GS2 without using the development tool Hellraiser. So, be educated man. If you don't read, you will end up ****ing your phone over, and then if you whine about it (which inevitably happens every time someone who doesn't read screws their phone up), prepare to be flamed. At that point you piss everyone who's seen your same thread or situation a hundred times from people who didn't search and read.
There are reports of battery drain issues due to 2.3.6 as well. Some of these are from programs, but if you're an Android user already, you know to kill and save RAM. I've had occasional reboots from when I pushed my phone hard, but nothing of diminishing value.
AT&T Service: Customer service sucks, so I hear. But they've always worked with me. I got them to unlock multiple phones in the past, I was grandfathered in to unlimited, and they've let me skirt waiting periods on my next update. I suppose if you're a new customer it might be different. I wouldn't know. Their service as far as phone calls and data? It ain't the best. To be honest, I don't get many dropped calls per week, but I know I get enough to remember that I get dropped calls weekly. Data can be spotty at times, but overall, in Orlando, it's fast.
My Review: moving from any other phone to this one is like being born again. You believe in technology again. Alright, so it ain't that much of a spiritual experience, but lemme tell you - this phone is fast. Yet, if you want the latest and greatest from Android, specifically 4.0.3, I'd pass on this phone. We will probably get it. Maybe. Our devs will work to make it happen, but sadly I doubt it will be an official update.
If you want solid hardware and a reliable phone however and don't mind gingerbread, this is the phone for you. It is fast, well-built, and has good battery life from my experience. I use it heavily for everything, and i get nearly 14-18 hours of heavy use (phone calls, texts, music, videos, downloads, web-surfing).
4.5 out of 5 stars for this phone from me.

Thanks for taking the time to type all that out autonomous, thats the type of response I was looking for. I am coming from Sprint's SGS2 variant so I'm well aware of how badass these phones are. I could care less about ICS, I had the Galaxy Nexus for a few weeks and returned it because I like the SGS2 + 2.3 + TouchWiz better. I'm probably gonna go to Costco over the weekend and pick it up to try it out and see how AT&Ts service in my are is.

Sprint and AT&T are in the same family with their Exynos chipset, which I'm sure you're aware of. The difference is that we are closer in relation to international. No WiMax chipset in ours, so easier porting.
AT&T is a fairly good provider. Service is decent, even out in the country, but it doesn't make you say "Man, Ma Bell is great about their connectivity everywhere."
While I told you we probably won't get an official Ice Cream update we WILL get one in one shape or form. 2.3.6 problems can be avoided by Hellraising a 2.3.4, 2.3.7 or 2.3.5 ROM. So if you want to avoid battery drain issues and use your bluetooth keyboard or mouse, you have your choices.
Bottom line brother, is with this phone you have options. We have devs, and tools that give you many options. If you're asking me if you should make the jump, I'd have to ask why, because WiMax with Exynos seems like a good setup, but if it's for a sensible reason, you could do worse than Ma Bell. If it's assurance you want, yes, this is and will be a good phone for quite a while. Yes, AT&T is decent, and yes, you will be fairly satisfied.
As a disclaimer, every experience is different, so I suggest you either look around this forum and make your mind that way, or bite the bullet and don't look back by moving to AT&T blindly, and go for the shortest contract you can.

Seems that everyone else doesn't want to play nice so I'll add my own opinion. I think that the only phone that will be able to give our phone a decent challenge will be the HTC One X when it comes to AT&T supposedly in April. It looks to be a pretty nice phone, hopefully AT&T doesn't mangle it too bad.

Thank you for giving a constructive opinion. Its nice to know some people have intelligence.

Will agree with this one, the only problem some of the other phones that AT&T carries is that they simply bloat them to death and it kind of gives the phones a bad rap when reviewed by alot of the review sites.
Would love to see a review where the majority of the phones are benched/reviewed side by side with stock firmware/rom's vs rooted/custom rom's
I came from a Motorola Atrix to this and it was a definite upgrade. Great phone, and imo atleast for NOW, its the best. I'm sure something will come along soon and trump it, but till then, we're the kings of the mountain.

The new HTC has some serious potential. I am. Very worried about the non removable battery though, and no SD slot is fail. But the s4 looks to be a real power house. We shall see

It does look like a nice phone, and I would have probably gotten it as a 2nd phone if it had a micro sd slot. the S4 chip seems impressive, but I'm sure the next exynos chip will crush it though once it's released
Coming from HTC Dream (G1), it is a step up for me for SGSII. But of couse, AT&T screwed it up with how they managed this device (not reconized it as 4G..DUH!!!). HTC One X seem to be the up to the task to match up to SGSII. But then we'll have to see.
Well coming from an iPhone and inspire this way way way better then any phone I have ever seen att carry.like mention before the HTC one XL may be the only phone to challenge this one(maybe the rumored galaxy s3 ) but not being able to remove the battery is one of its downfalls .

Yeah the One X looks like the first HTC phone in a while that could hold up against the Samsung.
The GS III could be earlier this year than last year. If the att variant is as close to the international as the i777 was to the i9100, then the One X will be back-seated quick.
But, the Captivate is still pretty strong after two years. Heck, they had ICS before we did. I would guess the i777 will continue to be popular for about the same timeframe, 2 years.

"Powerful" is in the eye of the beholder. I love my GSII, it is way snappy, but if I am in the bay area (which I am pretty regularly) I cant take advantage of the LTE there. All depends on what you value.
Although... I was getting 11 down on our faux g while I was there

Just what he says, with the SGS2 he can't take advantage of the LTE network. You need a Skyrocket for that.

The SD card slot isn't too big of a deal to me because of the fact that the phone should be coming with a 32GB internal storage which is what my S2 has with the SD card added. The non removable battery could be more of a problem if it has the typical HTC battery life. If I didn't have my S2 right now and was ready for an upgrade I'd definitely give the One X a chance.
Just read the specs on HTC One, unless I missed something, it looks like HTC made the display .2" bigger than the GSGII Skyrocket just so they don't look like they are behind Samsung. Ya it is a nice phone but not nice enough to leave SGSII.
It's looking pretty sweet. I like the rezound but I really want to get back to a lightweight device with good battery life. I'm not going to pre order but if they are getting great battery life on stock battery I'm going to give it a go.
Overrated phone imo. Pass.
Definitely not buying any cdma Samsungs unless they finally figured out how to make phones that actually work as phones, hold a GPS signal, and don't drop data... So far they have a horrible track record on Verizon and Sprint.

I'll probably switch. I like the Rezound but there's nothing going on in the dev side of things. This phone is basically dead. One thing about Samsung devices, in every forum there's tons of developers putting out lots of roms.
And LTE is not CDMA, its a GSM technology.

LTE is similar to GSM, but is a separate new technology... And all Verizon phones still use cdma for voice and 3g data...

I'll stick with the Rezound. There's always something around the corner that has better specs or more ram or something else that's enticing. Certainly will check it out though.
Would probably have waited to see what else is hitting towards the end of summer, but I want to be sure and lock in my unlimited for another 2 years, so ill probably get it.

Theres two things:
1) The rezound being on a US carrier, Verizon specifically, HTC is probably told not to release the source immediately, and given how long it's taken for ICS to get here, that pretty much proves it lol once source (finally) drops, devving will jump start. ICS is so much better, and even with all the little problems and no source, devs and users want ICS, we're just at a stalemate right now, as really nothing more can be improved on until we get source.
2) There are a lot of devs putting out Samsung ROMs, yes, but going with that, there are probably the same number of devs putting out the same number of ROMs for HTC phones. The problem here is the Rezound is specific to Verizon, where as Samsung phones, like GS2, have a bunch of different, and unlocked, versions floating around. When I had my Fascinate, the Galaxy S devices had dozens of different ROMs and tweaks, but I could only get a couple on my device.
But like everything, it's opinion-based lol you're more than welcome to do whatever you like, but IMO, wait until source drops and see what happens, then decide. I love the smoothness everything about the ICS leaks, but I always drop back to GB because of battery life, custom kernels, stability, etc.

Yeah, because they're even remotely comparable
I'm not particularly enamored of the GS3 as a phone, but it's good enough, and I get to keep my unlimited data. So I'm sold. I love my Rezound though, and will be keeping it in case Verizon nerfs the world phone aspect of the GS3.

Oh I know! Luckily I was able to call Verizon to switch my fiance's phone over to a Rezound for free. That phone was THE WORST and I'm not even just talking about development. Battery life sucked, 3-4 data drops a day, and a whole slew of other problems.

they don't have to be comparable, I simply stated that if you want to see a dead dev community go there
I had bad experience with droid charge, so Samsung phones doesn't really excite me anymore. but I will be keeping my rezound for at least another year
Just to be clear people, the reason the dev scene here is pretty dead at the moment is purely cause we don't have what is necessary just yet. The rezound has a brand new type of radio and is one of only two phones on Verizon that can do voice and data at the same time over 3g. This new RIL (and the fact that it's 4g) causes huge difficulties in getting AOSP to work correctly with it unless you have the proprietary files from HTC. We have the kernel source code and ril code for 2.3 but for 4.0, all we have currently is the prebuilt binaries. We need the actual source code to be able to fix the current issues we have. This source should come shortly after the official release of the OTA (which now must happen by the end of the month according to HTC). See if developement doesn't pick back up once the code is there. This will be a great phone for CM9 soon enough

Yeah, there are some things I don't love about the GS3, but 1800 mAh non-removable battery in the One X=fail. Samsung putting a 2100 mAh battery that can be removed is winning.
I just think HTC totally effed up by not sticking to their hero model.
Going with the S3. HTC was on a hot start with this phone with ICS then just forgot about it. No offense, the dev community likes to have drama, same with SOME members. Development looks the same. I got this phone for options, barely are some. Its an amazing phone yes but ill try the S3. My S1 was actually great to me believe it or not. Plus an S4, better battery, and the new features in Touchwiz ar very intriguing. 2gb ram? I have a feeling this phone will be monster. Devs love galaxy series as well.

If you had the Verizon S3 (not another carrier)
Can you please compare :
1. Audio Quality
2. Reception (which drops more calls or fades in and out).
3. Battery Life (preferably battery life based on total talk time than surfing or playing games).
Hmm I don't even have to own the DNA to answer
1. Call quality has always been great for me on HTC
2. Samsung cdma radios don't compare to htc
3. Battery life has, been stated to be the same or marginally worse than the gs3.
Gs3 is a great device. Prob gonna come down to what u like better, sense or touch wiz. But DNA should be a very nice device.
I'll be able to share more once I get it in my hands this coming week, should be here by the 20th 21st the latest. I love my S3 nothing wrong with it but I love new devices and keeping up with technology. I will say off the back build quality has always always been better with HTC.
I'll share more once I get the phone!

As far as 1 goes - MANY of their devices had problems with BT over the years - you could hear fine but the person you were calling would get reduced volume etc - some of them they fixed this issue with firmware updates.
As far as 2 goes, the EVO on Sprint was great - the EVO 3D had similar problems to the S3 for reception.
When some people get the phone, we'll hopefully have some detailed analysis of talk time comparisons.

Pardon my blunt nature when I say that, you asked a question pertaining to a phone that is not officially available so you must have asked this question in an open forum hoping the 4 or so people that have the device would reply
Take my advice with a grain of salt then but I am sure it will be an accurate answer to your question about this mythical phone until its release date and the masses own it.
at what point do I have to currently own the gs3 to be able to tell you about it. Maybe I have had extensive hands on with the device in such extent that I feel I can accurately talk about it.
I pre ordered mine, will get it soon. Only thing is that I wont be able to move my microSD card from the S3.
I just hope that ifixit teardown will reveal a hidden sdcard slot in the back some where then I will be happy.

You've doubled down on your ignorance. I am not the one that asked the original question.
Aside from that, take a look around. There are plenty of people that have already received these phones, and have been doing reviews on them. I think his question was quite legitimate, and think this thread would be better suited to include responses that are directly related to his question, including my own, which is why I'm dropping this now.

Its not that there is no room, the general consensus is that verizon requested not to have one to make people use more cloud storage and thus more data.

Yes, but someone is selling a micro sd card specifically for the DROID dna leading to some speculation that the slot exists, just no opening for it.
I for one would be willing to open it up to put a "permanent" sd card in there.

This. I find it extremely likely that the board is the same as the Butterfly's meaning there's the pins for a sd slot to be put in or possibly even an actual sd slot that isn't accessible from the outside, yet there's no way that ebay seller knows of this.
Alright so when is somebody going to open one up??? Lol
