There doesn't seem to be any alternative locksreen options for the Streak that actually flash the frawework as opposed to running as a application/service. Is this correct? Is there any reason why other devices (such as Captivate) have flashable lockscreens but the Streak doesn't?
Just curious, thanks.

No special reason i can think of, i always liked the donut lockscreen, but i doubt i will ever be having that on Froyo or Gingerbread.
Try ripple lock in the market

why can't you just install the app? i mean there are benefits or something with flashing?
For one it'll def be a lot quicker because it'll come straight from the system, and two you don't have to worry about double locks

Which app should be replaced for this to work?
Does the lock screen come from a system app or is it "built-in" to the kernel or some other part of the framework?
How can you make sure that the replacement lockscreen integrates into the system like the built-in lockscreen?
You make it sound simple, but is it?

Well it depends on the app, not all apss will install from that folder, in that folder of you rom, if its a custom rom that is, are all the system apps installed, like the browser, camera, launcher/launchers etc...
For instance, before i install a custom rom, i will go through deleting all apps i don't want and adding ones i do, from experience i know some do not install ok but most do.
So say, put Agile Lock free edition in that folder, install the rom and see if it works for you.
Just an example.

Your advice is offered as an "easy" solution, but without any basis. I personally could care less about using a different lockscreen, but if you are going to offer a suggestion you might want to think it through, test it, or make it clear that you have not tried it and have no idea if it will work.
And even though I knew that you could modify custom ROMs prior to flashing, perhaps the OP did not?

Well Marvin, no point biting my head off when you failed to answer his question as well, you know as well as i do, that its not possible to change the lockscreen of the Android OS itself as its very tightly integrated with the rest of the OS.
The solution i am offering is to simply install a 3rd party lockscreen and use no lock to disable the system lockscreen, i don't think anybody has another solution to the android lockscreen debacle.

Hello all, going to be dipping my hands into ROM cooking, and I wanted to get a few opinions on the matter. I have my own ideas on what I want to include, but I would like to get the opinions of some the users that may be utilizing it on what you may prefer.
1) What would you like the source to be? (10c that amberhome uses seems to be pretty stable, but I am open to suggestions)
2) What would be your preferred home screen replacement? (Please only free ones, or ones that have a free version)
3) What kind of tools would you like included?
4) Any other apps you would like baked in?
Any other comments or suggestions are welcome, this is not just my ROM, but will be others as well
I think that Lg's Launcher should be replaced with LauncherPro.
lg's launcher tends to be laggy with the xtra stuff they implement.. please stick with lp or equivalent.
As of now, I am thinking about putting Launcher Pro + vLauncher in. I am a big fan so far of vLaunchers app drawer.
Umm.. launcherPro is more preferable for me. JIT enable + hardware acceleration enabled. For the source can u make another 1 for the Asia version because i stay at singapore

By what people tell here, the roms are equal,it only changes locales or operators,so guess V10a would be good, because it is unbranded.
But if this theory is wrong, just go for V10c.

The only things that I replaced in V10a and that "for me" make sense to be put on a rom are:
Fancy widget - instead of the LG original one, because it shows the battery percentage.
Compass
GPS Status
Bar Code Scanner
Advanced Task Killer
AndroZip
Astro File Manager

Another important thing is what shouldn't be removed...
A thing that could be good is if you and corwin42 could work together, because amberhome v1.1 is a good rom,it just needs some things sorted out,and two guys work faster than one most of the times

wide language support will be welcomed, so try to compare it and you will see. It's not necessary to have everything because of its size, but it should be possible install next languages like chinese, czech, franch and so one. Most better solution to keep rom as small as possible - include only english and provide mechanism to select/download others.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread
http://lifehacker.com/5707296/screenshot-tour-of-android-23-gingerbread-and-its-best-new-features
Also, ATM I am working on getting the modded kernel for the Optimus S (at least parts of it) working for Optimus T versions at the very least, which is the P509. Don't know weather any of it will be applicable to other P50x series, but I would like this to be in any ROM I release.
Hopefully by then others will have 2.3 hacked apart... and then... much fun will be had by all.
BTW anybody handy at sifting through source and with knowledge of arm cpu's feel free to contact me, any help or differing eyes/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
+ 1 Gingerbread!
Yes black notification bar would be greatly apprecaited.. and song shuffle with long press of volume +- keys would be a great addition...
Black status bar, circle battery with %, launcher pro, root.
It would be also nice to have gingerbread and fastboot.
A ROM like Kang-O-Rama would be great, I use this on my Nexus One and love it.

[Info]:
Alright, as requested here is a remap of the silly faves button on the espresso launcher. This is from the CR_Mod 2.2 espresso build. However it should work fine with any rooted 2.2 non-odexed espresso.
This will allow you to re map it to open any app installed on your phone, or various system settings, or open a quick launch box with a selection of 8 or so apps. I did this method over on the G2 forums as it is easier than mapping to each individual app requested - not to mention even better since you can remap it any time on the fly.
You MUST have the launchkey app installed. It is available on the forums for free here, or better yet, help the developer out and buy the one on the market for a mere 0.65 cents. It's dirt cheap and it has more options!
[How To]:
Install the launchkey app from above
Grab the attached file below
Boot into recovery
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/app/Rosie.apk
adb push [your saved file location]\Rosie_espresso2.2_custom.apk /system/app/Rosie.apkReboot
Thanks dude!
Edit: Any way to change the icon to the one of the app, or at least back to the default faves one?
So how exactly do you change the icon afterwards? I mapped the button to the Browser, but it has the standard menu button on there.
Don't think it will work on CRmod froyo because it.is deodexed

I'm assuming find the image in the res folder of the apk and change it to match your app. You could download and rip them off of the 2.1 method. The contacts, messaging, etc.
Works like a charm! Thanks a bunch! I know beggars can't be choosers, but is there any way to set up launchkey so that you don't have to long-press the button?
Oh, and if anyone's wondering, I'm running CM 6.1
For those looking to change the icon, I changed it to a generic one, but you can change it to any icon you wish. No, it will not adjust its own icon, as there is no way for sense to do that. Here is what you need to do:
-Create the icon.
-Replace the one in the res/drawable-normal/icon_add_rest.png with the one you made.
-Push the rosie back to your phone, and you're good

No, this is the same way that I did it with the 2.1 CR OTA. Only this time I mapped it to an app that launches other apps I had started doing individual mappings with specific icons, however everyone wants a different app. Even something simple like mapping it to the browser ends up with 3 or 4 different possibilities because people use after market browsers.

I'm confused here
If you're not on ESPRESSO SENSE, how does it work like a charm? Did you think this thread was about the launchkey app specifically? Did you think I made launchkey.apk? Did you think this mod was for CM6.1?
This mod will only work on espresso 2.2. If you're on CM, this MOD will not work, only the APP will work. The APP (LaunchKey.apk), as is linked in the OP, is made by someone else, not me. Requests to the function of the app may be directed at him. I merely edited the code in Rosie.apk so that it launches the app instead of Faves.
Yes I know, but after I pushed rosie.apk the genius button launches the app I set up, like it should. I must have read the thread wrong, and for that I apologize, but there's no need to be hostile/angered/annoyed or whatever. The fact is, it worked. Thanks for the mod regardless.

Nobody is angry or annoyed. I just asked what i thought were possibilities, because I find it hard to follow the train of thought with out answers. That aside, you are correct this is for remapping faves button. I'm also confused as to why you pushed rosie on a CM rom?
Because I've owned my slide for only two months and have absolutely no clue what rosie.apk is, haha. I'm an engineer, not a computer programmer, I just dabble in these things and learn as I go

Ah, I see. Well thats why I asked! Answer the questions, or ask your own, and I'll help out.
To keep it simple and short -
The sense user interface, made by htc, is the biggest version of android next to vanilla (just basic google android). However because of the extensive changes to the system framework that they did, the sense specific apps (with a very few exceptions) will not work on vanilla android. However, its a one way street, just about all vanilla apps work fine on sense roms.
The 'espresso' ui (what the mytouch slide ships with) is just a slightly smaller/modified version of the regular sense ui, with only a few changes, and follows the same restrictions.
CM roms are based off of the vanilla roms with tons of changes and modifications.
So.. Rosie.apk, what this thread is modifing, is the sense ui's launcher (home screen) and therefore does not work on vanilla (CM) roms. Its only for those still running rooted versions of the stock rom.
Simple enough, thanks for the info. I've been trying to get into the more nitty/gritty side of Android. I've already started brushing up on my Java to fool around with some programming, but it's kinda hard when you have absolutely no experience with linux! It helps to have people like you who are willing to take the time to explain to a noob like me what I'm doing wrong, haha.
Oh, btw, sorry for hijacking your thread...
works also with odexed Standard-Rom
Works like a Charm also with Standard odexed 2.2 Rom! Thanks a lot!

Hello fellow Arc owners.
I have a quick question for you all.
What do you wish your handset could do that it can't?
Something you've always wanted to be able to do with your phone but has never happened, no-one's ever found a way.
Whatever this something is, it has to be possible to do by way of an app - so no super-high-res screens, batteries that last a year on a single charge or anything else hardware related, we're just talking software.
And I'm not talking an updated GingerBreak or something like that. I mean a proper, legit, above board idea.
I'd love to hear any/all sensible ideas, thanks.
NB: I'm not looking to steal anyone's ideas, if you've got a plan for the next killer app then go for it and I wish you all the best.
I'm just trying to find out if there's a niche out there that could be filled...

Thumb print.. won't be feasible on current screens
And facial.. would take too long compared to swiping ?
A snap shot feature would be nice like a system restore. I know there are way to do it in Recovery but it would be nice to have a application within Stock ROM because Recovery is not available within Stock we need to Flash the custom ROM like CM for it.
A better (and free) lock screen could be good ! ..
I used to love how I could use the iPhone/iPod as a touchpad to control the mouse on the computer. Something similar for the arc would be a good idea. Should be graphically pleasing though.
I love to be able to use the camera button unlock the phone directly to the camera app, by long pressing it, so it doesn't happen by mistake. And when you turn off the screen or press the back button it would go back to being locked.

Don't know anything more about it though, sorry.
Sorry I think you got me wrong ...! Snapshot i meant a complete image of the system so we can restore it back to previous state. Let's say if something screws up we can restore the image
Right, ok.
I thought you had made two suggestions - screenshots being one and backups being the other.
I could be wrong but I'm not sure that's possible to do unless you're in recovery. I have a feeling that it's only possible to copy certain parts of the OS when it's not running.
As I say, I could be completely wrong but I can't help but feel that there's a reason why recovery is needed to made Nandroid backups.
May be I want to capture video of the activities I do on my device (just like capturing screenshot)...
Though m not sure if its achievable or not!!!

I also have this problem on my EVO 3D. Cant disable that darn lockscreen for widgetlocker instead. And I really hate it when i'm using poweramp via lockscreen. I turn on my evo to change a track and the sense lockscreen appears and then it loads the poweramp player with widgetlocker.
I used to use a dialer code to disable the lockscreen in my Droid Charge (when NONE of the no-lock apps worked.
I don't remember the code offhand as I like the sense lock & have no reason to disable it.
I would love to be able to disable lock screen myself. does anybody have any ideas regarding this process?
*EDIT*
I just used NoLock. It breaks on reboot, but I guess that's okay because I don't reboot all that much. Plus, it's kindof cool because I can PIN or password or Pattern lock the phone easily if I want, yet still have the ability to keep apps from screwing up when I turn off the display.
Nothing worse that losing a GPS lock when you need directions and don't know where to turn next. Not to mention lots of other apps that you have to reload when have to unlock...
NoLock, works perfectly for me, even after reboot. I also deleted the sense lock screen. I don't use any lock screen at all though, I like to go straight to home screen.
