[In-Call Volume] **FIX** (Finally) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

So after using the Samsung Galaxy S II for over a month now I've had one complaint. In-Call Volume using the handset ear piece. It was "OK" in quiet places but anywhere else...way below par.
So, after looking around for several weeks trying to find a fix I finally got help from a well know dev (Entropy512) as well as using system/lib audio files from Designgears ROM 'Perception'.
So...how do you finally get your in-call volume increased?
First and foremost...Always backup whatever you're changing. Better safe than sorry. Just make a copy of your current system/lib folder, rename it something like 'backup_lib' and place on your sd card somewhere.
Option 1
Download this flashable zip, flash it in CWM, Reboot, Enjoy. (This zip includes some audio files from the Perception ROM, if for any reason DesignGears has an issue with this PM me and I will remove the zip. I'm only using the files to help others solve their in-call volume issue)
MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING
Download the Flashable Update Here
I have tested this on three different SGSII's and all seems well! This is a NO WIPE flash, I do reccomend clearing your Dalvik Cache and Cache Partition though.
-Reboot into Recovery
-Scroll down to 'Advanced' and select
-Select "clear Dalvik Cache"
-Flash this update
-Reboot your phone and enjoy!
Option 2 (Incase the flash doesn't work or I am asked to remove the the zip file)
1) Download Designgears ROM 'Perception' Found Here
2) Open the zip file of your current ROM (doesn't matter what ROM)
3) Open the system folder and then open the system/lib folder (of your current ROM)
4) Next, Open the same folder in the Perception ROM
5) Copy the files listed below from the Perception ROM and paste them over the files in your ROM:
- lib_Samsung_Acoustic_Module_Llite.so
- lib_Samsung_Resampler.so
- lib_Samsung_Sound_Booster.so
- libaudio.so
- libaudioeffect_jni.so
- libaudioflinger.so
- libaudiohw_op.so
- libaudiohw_sf.so
- libaudiopolicy.so
- liblvvefs.so
- libmediayamaha.so
- libmediayamaha_jni.so
- libmediayamaha_tuning_jni.so
- libmediayamahaservice.so
- libsamsungAcousticeq.so
- libsamsungSoundbooster.so
- libsoundalive.so
- libsoundpool.so
- libSR_AudioIn.so
- libyamahasrc.so
*Only copy/replace the files listed above as they are only audio files. DO NOT COPY/REPLACE all system/lib files... You'll have unwanted consequences and you'll probably kill a puppy.
6) Now go to the Perception ROM and open system\app and find phone.apk. (Save a copy of your current phone.apk...Just in case)
-Copy (Perception's) phone.apk and replace the phone.apk on your current ROM.
7) After you replace the files listed above on your ROM, reflash your ROM and enjoy your increased call volume.
Note: If you don't want to reflash your ROM and risk losing any settings, you should be able to copy the files and replace them with Root Access and a file explorer, then Reboot your device immediately after. I haven't tried this yet so if someone wants to try and leave feedback, please feel free.
EDIT: Copying the files using a root explorer does work but may cause your phone to crash/reboot afterwards. I'd still recommend just re-flashing the ROM to avoid potential issues. Once again, make sure and make a back up so you can revert any changes if something doen't work properly.
I will try uploading a zip file with appropriate files so you can download but currently I do not have Designgears permission. This is their code and I don't want to step on any toes.
EDIT: I have tried reaching out to DG for permission but had no luck, if he asks that I remove the zip file, I will do so.
Known Potential Issues:
- When flashing over a stock/rooted ROM this update may cause the phone application to crash/force close. I have tried this update personally on every ROM I could flash and haven't had any issues. However, I have not tried it on the stock ROM. If you're on stock/rooted, please make a backup so if it does cause issues you can simply revert the changes.
Much thanks goes to Entropy512 for the help with solving this issue and Designgears ROM 'Perception'. Using Perception showed me that increasing the in-call volume was possible! (it's a very stable and awesome ROM as well )
***UPDATE***
Due to some people being a worried about flashing the update I have taken the liberty of making the backup files for you and making them flashable!
- I have made revert files for all of the major ROM's we currently have for our device. I did not include Perception because that ROM is where the audio files originated from. Below is the download links for the backups.
IF my volume fix does NOT work, simply download the backup for your ROM and flash it. It will revert all the changes my fix made.
- Revert_CM7.1_Stable
- Revert_H8s2_1.2.2
- Revert_Serendipity_8.2
- Revert_Stock_UCKH7
- Revert_UnNamed_1.2
- Revert_MIUI 1.11.4 v1
- If you are using Perception ROM you do NOT need the volume fix as this ROM has the files built in
As a side note, I have tried this on several I9100 ROM's as well and had luck with them all.
If this thread helps, please click the thanks button for me, I'm new to the XDA community.

Any I9100 ROM should work here for the libs - however:
Your mic will be screwed up for outgoing audio unless you change the Samsung Noise Reduction settings. (DG forced this in Perception, I believe he did it in an APK somewhere and not in the libs.)

I just tried a call and you're correct, the mic isn't working properly. Do I need to find the APK or do you know what changes I need to make? This is a popular issue and I'm hoping this thread can help.
Edit: I found some APK's....any idea which one would deal with the mic?
-CallSetting.apk
-Phone_Util.apk
-Phone.apk
-Settings.apk

Ahahaha, good thing I made a backup before pasting, but pasting the files in root explorer does work, however your phone will crash and reboot, but it is louder.
Doesn't work on the apk :v

I'm testing different apk's right now. As soon as I figure out which apk the fix is located in I'll edit the post.
Maybe DG can drop a hint to me

Just posting another screenshot to show the phone.apk.

Try copying the CallSetting.apk as well (use both). If you still don't have any luck with fixing the mic issue and you're using a file manager to make the switch, try re-flashing your ROM with the apk changes instead.
Make a backup before doing it so you can restore all your settings if it doesn't work for some reason.

It works after I replaced it in my ROM zip

Did you have to re-flash? Just trying to make sure my instructions are correct.
Did you need to add both apk's as well?

No, I just added replaced the files in the Unnamed 1.1.0 full update zip, ran an update via CWM, with only the phone.apk and microphone works.

Ok, glad it works and the kinks are worked out thanks for you patience and tests.

Thats awesome news. Low mic has always been an issue for me. Just wondering if someone can create a flash able zip that automates everything, if possible.
Great work guys.

IF I can get approval from Designgears to use some sources from his ROM I shouldn't have any issues putting this into a zip file for everyone. I've reached out to DG, just awaiting a response

Excellent! Been looking for something like this, because I also noticed that the volume was really horrible... Keep us posted on a zip file. Rather be "SAFER" than sorry with doing something that does it automagically for me
Knowing my patience, I'll probably manually do it once I get home from school... lol

[MOD][COG-4][UnNamed] Over-scroll Glow!

Discontinued. The latest versions of all previously supported ROMs have this functionality built in.
This gives you an over-scroll glow when you reach the end of a list.
I really hope you knew that before clicking on this thread.
Example if you don't know what I'm talking about
It's just a modified framework.jar with modified files allowing the over-scroll to work and the correct glow images assigned to it. Theming is very easy, just colorize the over-scroll glow pngs in framework-res.apk. The default is orange.
What I want to do with this thread is sort of have a place where you can find the over-scroll enabling mod for every popular ROM for our phones. If you think I should support a ROM that I currently don't, then please post in the forums because I read every post! Ask to put a ROM on the wishlist. Upload the ROM's framework-res.apk and framework.jar files and I'll work on it when I'm not busy with school.
Currently, the wish list is:
Stock KH7
[Update on 10/15/11] UnNamed v1.0.1 compatible files uploaded. Give them a try. Honorable mention to quarlow
Installation:
BACK UP YOUR OLD FRAMEWORK.JAR
Because I'll just laugh at you if you complain that your phone won't boot up.
>>>ADB:
Code:
Extract the CWM package to get the framework.jar
adb remount
adb shell
su
cd /system/framework/
cp framework.jar framework.jar.backup
exit
exit
adb push framework.jar /system/framework/
adb reboot
>>>ROOT EXPLORER:
Extract the CWM package to get the framework.jar
Okay, now you can theoretically do this, but why would you want to? You'll get lots of crashes and might mess something important up.
Go to: /system/framework/ and rename framework.jar to something else. Go back to where-ever you saved my modified framework.jar and copy it over to /system/framework/ and change the permissions of the new framework.jar to match the old one. I'm pretty sure it's rw-r--r--, but don't quote me on that. + Restart your phone.
Simba501 has a more indepth tutorial on how to install this mod through Root Explorer here
>>>RECOVERY (preferred):
Flash the one specific to the ROM you're running
Whatever method you choose, know that it will take a stupidly long time for your phone to boot-up. Don't worry though, it'll be worth the wait.
Yoderk created some cool themes for the over-scroll glow for Cognition Beta-4 which you can find HERE.
UnNamed 1.0.1 works with 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 as well.
Also, please remember to say THANKS if I helped you!

It's there if you REALLY need it. I haven't tested it and to be honest, it's been a very very long time since I made my last CWM compatible file. Maybe it works though, try it out. If not, then use one of the other methods.

That's awesome! Someone test it on stock w/ root, because if it works there, I'll be amazed.
Confirming that the cwm flashable zip works on cog beta 3!
Working fine here. I'm technically on Beta 1, but I've manually added the components I wanted from each Beta update because there were things I didn't want.
I have a suggestion. I don't know why everyone repeats that method for using root explorer. That's a terrible way to do it. I always use root explorer to manually replace my files and have never experienced any issues. Here is the correct way to use root explorer for manually replacing modded files:
1. Navigate to the file that you plan to replace (in this case, system/framework/framework.jar).
2. Copy (not move) the file and paste it somewhere on your SD card (internal or external, doesn't matter - as long as you can locate it in case you need to put it back). Rename the file you just pasted, but very subtly. For example, when renaming framework.jar, I would only throw something in front of the file name, such as "Backup - framework.jar", so I can easily distinguish it from the new file if I put them in the same spot.
3. NANDROID BACKUP!
4. Download/put on your sd card (whatever you do) the new file that you want to replace the old one with.
5. Move the new file to /system (not in a subfolder yet). Here you will change the permissions, which is crucial to avoid FCs and problems. In root explorer, you would long press the file, press permissions, and set them to whatever the old file's permissions are. This may require going to verify what they are before starting this step. In this case, the permissions are RW-R-R, which in root explorer, means that the first two boxes on the first line are checked and only the first box on the next two lines are checked.
6. Ensure that your new file is correctly named to exactly what it is replacing (case actually matters) and that the permissions also match what it is replacing.
7. Move your new file to the folder, root explorer will ask if you want to replace the file. Confirm.
8. Back out of root explorer and immediately reboot.
No force closes, no problems .
Cwm file worked great on cog beta 4. Thnkz!!

Well if your like me and hate orange! Then here are two framework-res.apk with a blue and green overscroll color. Just rename them to framework-res.apk and overwrite the original file in system/framework.
Do not forget to back up original file! I claim no responsibility to problems.

Yes. Those need the tw-framework to be modified and I haven't taken a look at those yet since I'm trying out Perception for a couple of days and that already has it coded in? But it isn't a problem per-say, it's just how Samsung decided to code those specific apps and there isn't a way to implement them in 2.3.4 without breaking the slide left to call, slide right to message, feature. 2.3.5 Roms have that built in on Samsung apps.
Problem probably isn't the best word.
Thanks for answering though. I always wanted the overscroll but having mixed bothered me.

There's a leaked 2.3.5 ROM for the i777 but personally I'm using designgear's Perception which is a port of a i9100 ROM and it works perfectly. I'd recommend the latter since leaked ROMs tend to have problems.

[SUPPORT THREAD] JT Inverted Productions JB4.2 Aroma + Quickflash

This is the support thread for JT Inverted Productions JB 4.2 Gapps+ mod. If you have questions, ask them here. Do not ask for help in the other thread.
Main thread for downloads:
[APPS]JT Inverted Productions JB 4.2 Gapps+ Aroma & Quickflash
How to flash:
1. Backup your current ROM, if needed
2. Perform a full wipe - format /system, /data, /cache, and /dalvik-cache
3. Flash your ROM
4. Flash the gapps package you want
5. Reboot
6. If you need to restore any data, DO NOT restore data to any inverted apps
How to post a question:
1. Did you perform a full wipe before having this problem?
- Yes. There is no other correct answer to this question. If you answered no, correct that first by backing up your device, then doing a full wipe. This means that you should wipe /system, /data, /cache, and dalvick-cache before you even think about continuing with your report. Do not restore data. If you don't fully wipe, you will not receive help. Doing a full wipe allows you to check to see if the problem is there without any of your modifications.
2. Which file are you having trouble with?
- Please make sure to type or copy/paste out the entire file name.
3. Which device are you using?
- HTC One X/Samsung Galaxy S3/Motorola RAZR
4. Which ROM are you using, and which UI type is it?
- Post a link to the ROM you're using and also mention the type of UI (AOSP/CM10/AOKP). List your kernel as well, if you don't use the ROM's built in kernel.
5. Which recovery version are you using?
- CWM/TWRP/4EXT
6. State your problem with as much detail as possible.
- We aren't standing over your shoulder watching you mess up your phone. Describe in great and excruciating detail what you did to arrive at your problem.
1. I'm going to post my question without doing a search.
Fine, but you'll just get made fun of, or infracted by one of the mods who use this mod. Searching is the first rule of XDA.http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
2. Do I really have to do a full wipe?
No one is going to stand over your shoulder and make sure you do, but don't expect help if you don't.
3. Why doesn't the zip file flash properly/Why is the zip file password protected?
Too many people don't bother reading the directions, so the zips are now password protected. The password is located in the OP (post #1) of the main thread. You have to read to find it. It only changes on occasion, so keep using the same password until it stops working, then look for the new one. Make sure to read for the changes when you grab the new password. The flashable zip is always hidden inside the password protected zip.
For more information on the password system, please read this helpful post by KidCarter93.
4. My recovery freezes, gives me some other weird error, or the gapps package just didn't flash properly and force closes a lot.
You probably don't have enough /system space. You need around 160MB of free /system space for the full package.
5. Gmail (or some other app) is not inverted after flashing this.
You forgot about FAQ #3. Always do a full wipe. Make sure you don't have duplicate apps in /data/app/ and /system/app/. All AOSP-based ROMs should NOT include Google Apps. Some of them might, so you may need to do some manual house cleaning to get this to work. If your chef includes Google Apps in a CM, AOKP, or AOSP ROM, remind them that Google does not allow this.
6. People app is not inverted/Phone.apk is missing.
Either restore your backup, or reflash aroma and deselect the people app from the menu. Do not use the inverted people app, as this tells us that it is not working on your device. There is no fix, so don't ask.
7. MMS.apk is not inverted.
Theme it yourself. Open MMS app, then go to Settings > theme and set it however you like. The included themes from TUN_D will automatically invert them, however.
8. When using Quick Reply pop up, the message displayed is not always the actual message that I just got. Sometimes it is an older message.
That's an issue with the MMS.apk provided by the CM team. It happens when you do not reply to a message from within the quickreply pop up, but instead bypass it to reply within the app. To get around that, you can disable the pop up, but leave the quickreply option and simply tap the "Quick Reply option from the notification bar. This will trigger the pop up and allow you to reply each time to the correct message.
9. I have problems with ghost inputs, or the touch screen is buggy, in aroma.
Follow the instructions in this post by Wechy77.
10. I don't want this boot animation anymore, or it was installed by mistake.
Delete /data/local/bootanimation.zip if it's there, or, if it's not there, extract your original boot animation from your ROM's zip file at /system/media/bootanimation.zip and move it to the same location in your ROM.
11. Instagram has a problem connecting to Facebook.
Before flashing the inverted Instagram, download the latest Instagram from the market, and log in to give it permission to access your Facebook profile. After that, flash the inverted Instagram, and it will work like normal. An updated version of Instagram is being worked on.
12. I read this whole FAQ and my issue isn't addressed.
Make a post with the following information, and state your problem clearly and in excruciating detail.
1. Did you perform a full wipe before having this problem?
- Yes. There is no other correct answer to this question. If you answered no, correct that first by backing up your device, then doing a full wipe. This means that you should wipe /system, /data, /cache, and dalvick-cachebefore you even think about continuing with your report. If you don't fully wipe, you will not receive help.

As far as I know, gallery and some other 4.2 stuff was removed due to errors. Also, CM file manager was changed. If 4.0 is working without any problems for you, then don't worry about updating to 4.0b. If you have issues, then update.
Aroma 4.0/Gapps 4.2a/b/c working with CM10 4.1.2 (i9000) , or not?
The new (4.2) cam/gallery and keyboard are working fine ... (other sources)
second the password was a goal on the wrong side my opinion, because the spamming goes on ...
thx for advanced

If someone has trouble with ghost inputs, and doesn't know, what to do, here is my little guidance:
There is a little work with it before you can make it work with touchscreen:
1. download "JusTunBean Aroma 4.x..."
2. download "update-binary" from here
3. copy "aroma-config" from JusTunBean.zip (It is in META-INF/com/google/android folder) Edit with notepad++ add calibrate("0.9718","4","1.0176","-9"); to first line. (This calibrate values are for Xperia ray)
If you use another phone and has trouble with ghost inputs then serach a rom in your phone thread with aroma install and find calibrate values.
It should look like this:

Code:
calibrate("0.9718","4","1.0176","-9");

Could someone help me out. I've read the op a hundred times. I'm pretty sure i have the password. I've downloaded Zarchiver but now I'm lost. the directions that are given are once you find the password DL Zarchiver and type the password in that application. I can't DL the aroma zip to my phone in order to use Zarchiver to unzip it. All I get is a bunch of crazy text and the DL kicks me back to the xda post.If you could tell me what I'm doing wrong I'd really appreciate it. This is by far the best invert mod out there. Thanks

You can download in pc, and extract using password with 7zip or winzip or winrar. The Zarchiver is for that users mentioned, who wants download direct to phone. (I don't use Zarchiver, so i don't know, how it works)

Try to use Chrome -- it works.
This is a question about the theming:
I suppose this is to TUN, I don't use any of the custom themes, and I am on a Note using CM10:
when I am in Instagram, the words for "more comments" I assume is black on the black theme. I mean that when a person has more than 5-6 comments and you want to click it to see more.
Then the other thing I saw is in Facebook, when writing a message, I couldn't see what words were being typed, was just black on black.
Does anyone else see this?

[MOD] Increase number of volume steps

I have a SGP5 and am using Jackpot Clavin's CM10.1 rom.
I find that the number of volume steps is too few when using headphones. Often consecutive volume settings will change the volume too much, so that one setting is too soft and the next too loud.
The solution to this is to increase the number of steps over the same volume range.
I have successfully managed to do this using the following guide (it was quite easy actually):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411317.
Doing this produces a framework.jar file which needs to be placed in /system/framework with permissions "- rw- r-- r--" (ie read/write for user, read only for everyone else), and after a reboot (during which it will say it is upgrading) you should have the extra steps.
Anyway, seeing as it works I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else wants to have more steps to their volume (rather than the original 15 steps).
I've made some CWM flashable zip files to make things a bit easier.
Volsteps2-30 will give double the steps, so to increase the volume by what used to be one step now takes two steps.
Volsteps2-45 will give triple the steps, so to increase the volume by what used to be one step now takes three steps.
This theoretically should work for any rom (or even device) but it may be the case that a different zip file will be needed for each one. To make this compatible with more roms/devices I need your /system/framework/framework.jar files so I can patch them and make an install zip. But try it out before sending your file, there may be a version for you already made...
Instructions:
Remember to do a nandroid backup first!
Download the uninstall zip and one of the install zips from below.
Flash the install zip and reboot.
if it works, great...
if not, you'll probably find you're in a bootloop, get back into CWM (with the button combo) and flash the uninstall zip, (this will restore your system to its previous state), reboot and reply to this thread telling me that it doesn't work, what rom and device you are using and attach your framework.jar file (found in /system/framework/).
I'll patch your framework.jar file and make a new zip file for you to try, if it works for you I'll attach it to this post with a suitable description.
We'll see if we can get a nice collection for all the roms...
For UNINSTALL.zip and SGP5.0 mods see the files attached below
For SGP4.0 mods see post #79: Volsteps Mods for SGP4.0 Player

Nope. I can't because I can't find my SD card and it doesn't exactly work correctly anyway. I'll just have to install the stock ROM and do it like that.
Edit: I found it, but my computer doesn't want to read it, so yeah...
I've worked out how to do CWM zip files! I've made an install zip that works fine on my player and an uninstall zip in case it bootloops.
If it does bootloop the uninstall zip will restore your original framework.jar file and everything will be as it was before.
I suspect that each rom will have to have a special zip file for itself, so if it doesn't work, post telling me your ROM and attach your framework.jar file and I'll patch it. (framework.jar is in /system/framework/)
It'd be nice if we had all the ROMs covered don't you think?
See OP for install and uninstall files.

Yeah, sorry about that, I had no idea it was even possible at the time - but now I do!..
Here's a zip for you to try - remember to have the uninstall zip at the ready in case it doesn't work..
Idecided that 30 steps (each step half the original) isn't enough for me so I've made a 45 step version (each step one third of the original) - see OP
I've been rummaging about inside people's rom zips (ooerr) and have patched Iurnait's pac-man rom and latest CM10.1 too.
All the jar files are different so a different version is definitely needed for each rom... Most worrying is that TheKryptonite's IurnaitCm10.1 file is different to the latest IurnaitCM10.1 file. I hope that doesn't mean that this must be done every time a rom is updated urrrggghh....
See OP for zips...

Changing the volume by one notch goes from too quiet to too loud (with 15 steps), I found it was the same with 30 steps, ie increasing the volume by half a step is also too much. 45 steps makes the volume change by one third of a step which, I think, is about right!
It's not that I need 45 steps, but it is about how big each step is....
Hey Mmmm-), Can you do a 30 volume step for the Slimbean ROM? Here's the framework.jar

Volume Mod

I found the thread to edit the. Xml and when I view the file in ES Explorer, I can see the entire file but when I click on edit it's like half of the file disappears. I can't edit the last part of the file because it's not there. Anyone have any suggestions?
I know lots of people like ES, but I found it pretty flakey. I really like FX:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx
and the root add-on:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx.rr
Hasn't failed me yet, and it's the only file manager I've used that keeps the permissions correct when you edit and save a file.
I have a sprint g3 that is rooted. I tried to do the volume mod but ran into some problems. I did exactly what it said. I edited it with es file explorer. In your last section labeled speaker and headphone, there is no section on my g3. I went through the whole text file 3 times and there is no such section. I did find and change the other changes exactly as you specified. After I was done, I rebooted and it got stuck on the sprint boot screen. I took the battery out and tried starting back up but each time it gets stuck on the sprint boot screen. I did a battery pull 4 times and each time the same thing happens. Now when I do a battery pull and hold the power button, nothing happens, it doesn't even turn on. Please help.
Anyone have any suggestions on this??
I had to try to do a full wipe by reinstaling the OP through the LG website because I didn't have a custom recovery installed to back up. Somehow that didnt work and ended up bricking my device. I was within the warranty period so I just exchanged the phone. I would like to try the vol mod again (this time with twrp installed) but don't want to run into the same issues. Is there anyone that can help me with this? Thank you
I have flashable vol mods already. In the stock ZV4,ZV6 and all the Barrin Roms. They're in the op of each.
You can just pull them from the zip, place it, and make sure to FIX PERMISSIONS. That's why the bootloop. If you want to do it manually.
The first thing is to not save and reboot with an incomplete file. If you can't edit it fully, don't save it. I made the edits with FX, Linked above, and it didn't truncate the file. Finally, after editing and saving, double check that the permissions are 0644 / rw-r--r-- before rebooting.
Oh, and make a nandroid backup of your rom first, including the East partition, so if something goes wrong you can recover and make a copy of the original file, too.
Edit: Corrected the permission, in red, above.
This is a update. Just to refresh, I am on a sprint phone rooted with custom recovery, model # LGLS990, first off these are the only two files thats similar in system-etc mixer_paths_auxpcm.xml and mixer_paths.xml. Which mixer file do I use? I used the mixer_paths.xml. I found a file that someone had saved in another thread with the modified changes so I downloaded that file, moved it to my phone, copy and pasted it, overwrite the orignal file, then changed permissions and when it rebooted, I had no sound at all. PLEASE HELP

First off, be careful you do not take the ota. You will lose root and have to Flashtool back to zv4. There's threads on that.
I don't remember what's in the zips, but you can flash it all and it'll probably run better. If you just want the mixer_path.xml, delete the build prop, and any other file. Leave Meta and system/etc/mixer path.xml

Ok, thanks. So, I can just flash the entire zip then? Flashing the entire zip will probably make it run better then? Or do I need to pull apart the zip and just use the mixer file. The entire zip is for the stock rom then? Thanks for your help, havent done this in a few years so I'm a bit rusty. By the way, you said to leave meta, what is that file? If I'm just flashing the zip, I can do through recovery then?
Yes. Leave meta. Its part of what directs the file in the zip file where to go and gives permissions to replace existing files Etc.

Not 3 and 4. 1 and 2. I think I have them at 65. And your bootloop is because you didn't set permissions properly. You'll need to restore in TWRP if you made a backup. If you didn't, then it's Flashtool.
If you're still on zv4 why didn't/don't you just flash the extreme one I linked you to before?
OK thanks but the permissions were set correctly. rw-r-r
There is no 1 and 2 that I see. I have attached a screenshot.

[GUIDE] [ROOT] Installing Viper4Android

OK everyone, there seems to be mass confusion on what to do to get Viper4Android running, this guide should help clear that confusion.
DO NOT USE THESE FILES UNLESS YOU HAVE A NEXUS 6P. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE ISSUES BECAUSE THEY USE FILES DESIGNED FOR OTHER PHONES.
Firstly: Are you running normal root or systemless root?
If you are running systemless root I suggest you switch over to normal root to get things working. So far, systemless root has been a roadblock for some people and Viper4Android starts acting up with systemless root installed.
Secondly: Have you flashed any of the billion V4A recovery flashable zips?
If yes, restore your system partition as those have a billion and one differently modified files that will probably screw over how your phone functions.
Thirdly: Do you have enough room in the /system and /vendor partitions?
Install the Busybox binaries (linked below) and open a terminal (using your favorite terminal app, or Terminal Emulator) and run
Code:
df
and make sure that you have enough room for the files.
If your /system partition is full, try deleting common apps like Chrome or Drive and install them from the Play Store as user apps instead.
If your /vendor partition is full, there isn't much to fix other than if you installed overlays for Layers, try uninstalling one (some overlays can go up to 400KB, like ones for Chrome). However, it may seem that you don't need to worry about the /vendor partition, more on that below.
OK, now it is time to continue.
If you don't want to follow this guide, then you can use Lollviper's recovery flashable zip, as it works just fine. Use the standard zip, and not the surround zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/discussion-viper4android-t2543796
Choose your favorite v2.3.4.0 version of V4A and install it to /system/priv-app/. Just create a folder with the same name as the APK, give it the same permissions as the other folders, and drop the APK in it making sure to also give it the permissions that the other APKs get. If you encounter issues with a customized version of V4A, I suggest you use the standard version. So far, Lolliviper seems to work.
Make sure to install BusyBox, I recommend this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox
If the files linked below can't be downloaded, use the zip file at the bottom of this post and continue following the guide.
Now, download this file (49_viper4android.sh) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/rcp77ul41m...ndroid.sh?dl=0
And create a folder called su.d in /system/. The path should be /system/su.d/, and then give it permissions 0700 with root:root, and drop the script into the folder with permission 0755 with root:root. This script will allow V4A access to mediaserver, so it can see audio to do it's magic. You can make sure that the script worked on boot by checking /data/v4a_script.txt for if it exists, or, was modified recently to correlate with you booting your phone.
Now do the same for this file (audio_effects.conf) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/57y44o74dk...ects.conf?dl=0
And drop the file in /system/etc/ AND in /system/vendor/etc/ (alternatively you can go to /vendor/etc/ as it's actually the same folder). Both of the files should have permissions 0644 with root being the owner and group. This modified file will allow V4A to be used as an equalizer and allow it to do magic in your audio. Quick note, if V4A keeps asking to install the driver, then delete the audio_effects.conf in /system/vendor/etc/ and don't worry about it.
Now the file which will allow V4A to work system-wide, like in YouTube (audio_policy.conf) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/yi8u3j91z3...licy.conf?dl=0
And drop it in /system/etc/ and give it permissions 0644 with root being owner and group, and you are good to go. This modified file removes the "deep_buffer" module that made it so apps that don't hook into Viper4Android (apps that aren't music players) wouldn't have their audio processed. Some of the flashable zips included modified files, but usually only for the Nexus 5.
Now disable or delete the app MusicFX:
This is necessary as Google Play Music will use MusicFX over Viper4Android if the app isn't disabled.
That should be it, you can now continue with your installation of Viper4Android and it should work.

Why do you guys need this? Audio reproduction is excellent and this will only make it sound worse. The only way to improve the sound would be better headphones and/or amp.

You must be unaware the audio sound is completely subjective.

I haven't rooted or anything yet. From my experience on all the dev previews I would think the Lolliviper zips would still install fine just as they used to. Just don't use the Surround Sound zip.

Yeah, I just checked it and Lolliviper flashable does work just fine, I'll put it up in the post. My intent for this post was to just outline how to install it without using flashable zips as people were using the wrong ones and having troubles.

You misread what I said. If you like crappy sound, you like crappy sound, nothing can be done about that. Running audio thru any software filter will degrade the quality, period.
I flashed the lolliviper zip, but viper4android keeps asking me to install drivers (even after install and reboot).
Edit: I'll re-flash and wipe dalvik/cache and try again.
Edit 2: Yup, still having the same issue. It also takes awhile for the driver install to happen too (even though it doesn't actually work).

OK then, try using my way instead. Weird, because flashing the zip worked for me. Do you have systemless root? Try renaming the audio_effects.conf in /vendor/etc/, checking the permissions on audio_effects.conf and audio_policy.conf in /system/etc/, and checking that the 50viper.sh file in /system/su.d/ at least has permissions 0755.

I don't have systemless root, but I'll look into the permissions.
Edit: All my permissions look fine. I'll try and tinker around some more. Still not sure why the driver isn't installing.
You probably need more space in the system partition. Delete an app and reinstall from there play store.

I have 1.8GB free in my system/root partition.
Edit: I solved my issue. I had to delete audio effects conf from system/vender/etc

Yes worked like a charm!
Hi guys,
How does this improve audio quality from the speakers? Coming from Boomsound the speakers on the 6P seem to lack any kind of bass. Could viper help in that department?

Because you can tune the way the speakers sound to your liking. It makes the phones speaker and any headphones sound much better than they normally do.
