Photon AutoText - Motorola Photon 4G

Coming from the Palm Pre, I used to be able to type abbreviations and make the Pre substitute the full meaning (ie. "ilu" becomes "I love you").
Obviously, this autotext functionality is not built into the Photon but there are keyboards that support autotext. The keyboard I am currently using is Smart Keyboard Pro but I'm not that satisfied with it. I just installed A.I.type Keyboard which also supports autotext. Are there any other "good" keyboards out there that support it? I used to use SwiftKey and Go Keyboard but neither of them supported it at the time.

Try Perfect Keyboard. IIRC there's an option in the settings for custom shortcuts. The free version won't let you use it, but there's a demo version you can try before you buy.

Thanks, I think I've tried PK before and didn't like it too much. However, I'm willing to try it again.

I've always said this would be a cool feature to have in a phone. Didn't know it actually existed.
Going to submit this as a suggestion to Swype. I would try the other keyboards, but it's very hard to switch to other keyboards after Swype.

Yes, I feel you. For me, it's hard to use keyboards that don't support autotext. Adding this feature to Swype would be awesome.

Swype it, cab it!

Have you seen that input method?
Swype, check it out! They show with HTC's Diamon later in the video:

does anyone knows more about a cab ^^?

here more information:

Yup, cabs are not yet publicly available, we'll all have to wait. And if this is going out to anyone but OEMs we'll have to wait even longer, right now our hopes are on a demo version or something I guess.
Same discussion here.
oh not seen it...
thank you!

Tried the cab from modaco on Touch HD. Find it kinda sluggish.. not so much the swyping part, but the words appearing pretty slowly.
This could be because XT9 is present too. Didn't see this in the video on Swype website. Don't know how to turn it off. Anyone?
Swype? No thanks!
Swype? No thanks It don't works!!!! I prefer Dasur SlideIT it works perfectly on my Sony Xperia X1 and on the Htc Diamond 2....I think Swype has some kind of problem to get in to work or maybe is not compatible at all.....they make me laugh when they appear with their video copy like Apple-style Brand and try to shock the world with a new invention when on the markey there is already better product. Please Swype- men do a better job next time. Ciao
SLIDEIT
Yes the name is DASUR SLIDEIT, you can even try it for one month then if you like it you buy it...if you don't.....
Any kind soul can help - how to make HTC XT9 predictive word suggestion not appearing when using Swype? This makes Swype sluggish.
I suppose this is because this cab is meant for Omnia, which do not have XT9.
try to find the setting of ezinput...
btw, this function isn't working in the cab file provided.
Statistical Tracking
Keep track of your speed using Swype’s built-in statistical tracking.
just installed the cab couple days ago, it works pretty good on my fone.

eh, Swype works perfectly fine here, but the cabs floating around are English-only. I'm going to have to guess that's not the language you're wanting to use..
I've tried both and in my view Swype is infinitely superior - it even looks slicker. I'm on an HD2 mind you, perhaps the processor and larger screen help.
It's worth noting that the original thread for Swype was closed down at the request of the Swype developers as they were working OEM only. I also saw a thread today suggesting Swype was to be made more widely available...who knows!
meh i don't like this one :/ I just can't write anything on this app

A 2 second check on google for swype cab found it for me!
Swype works way better than I expected, I've been looking for a good sip for one handed operation and I can use this with my index or thumb and its as quick or quicker than my X1 hardware keyboard. This is pretty much the best sip I've ever used easily, only problem is I'm having problems where it switches back to the horrible default windows mobile keyboard very often... might have to try sipchange or something... But very impressed with swype, from the same creator of T9 input, its very versatile easy to correct and add words so it's my sip of choice, I just gotta figure out why it keeps going back to the default keyboard

BT Profiles and Keyboards

Hi. First of all I DID search for answers to this but could only find old threads and nothing related to the Flyer.
I found a Think Outside Stowaway Shasta Keyboard (oriented for blackberries) for a very good price and I was wondering if it'd be compatible with the Flyer. Does anyone know if the Flyer is compatible with HID or SPP keyboards? I know it can be paired with the XOOM and the Apple iPad one but I couldn't find which protocols those use. I really want a folding keyboard since I want full-size functionality but like how when folded it will fit anywhere the Flyer fits (making it a great match for portability). I also found an HP iPaq folding bluetooth keyboard and a Think Outside Dell rebranded Stoaway (earlier model than the Shasta) but both more expensive.
Well, thanks in advance for any help you guys might provide regarding profiles and bluetooth compatibility with keyboards.
On a side note I hope anything compatible with the Flyer is also compatible with the Sensation.
Thanks again.
I have a ThinkOutside BT keyboard and will try to remember to test it out tomorrow

I'd greatly appreciate that. Thanks.
Basic keyboard protocol is handled by the flyer and pairing is done buy first typing a pin into the tablets dialogue box then typing the same pin on the keyboard followed by return.

I know how pairing works. The question is whether it uses HID bluetooth profile or SPP Bluetooth profiles or both in order to work with the keyboard. Folding keyboards use one or the other but few use both so I want to make sure the one on offer would work with the flyer. I would prefer not to depend on a program like KeyPro to maybe get it to work.
I have an old hid keyboard (stowaway) and it works like a charm... If you want to write in English. If you want to write with accents or special characters, such as Spanish, you need to long press the physical key and then choose the accented vowel on the screen for instance, which is quite uncomfortable
I'm typing this post from my logitech BT keyboard made for honeycomb. Have had no issues with syncing to my stock flyer. Only downside is that while in landscape the up/down arrows are used to move left to right rather than uing the standard arrow keys.

Thanks. Thankfully I mostly work in English. My flyer's also in English so I'm not sure how easy it would be to change the keyboard functionality to Spanish even if it were a Spanish layout (though the bilingual text prediction might come in handy for those times I need it).
i want to know if some one could make the wiimote to function with the flyer
Yep, paired right up. Home key worked, basic typing worked well. Many of the other keys (email for example) did not work. I'll probably take flyer & keyboard in addition to laptop next time I travel to see how much I really need the laptop.

Lightweight keyboard?

Hello guys..
As stated in my title, any suggestions for a lightweight keyboard? I tried Go Keyboard and my unit seems to be sluggish after some usage (unit is LG E510)..tried Thumb Keyboard, a great keyboard app but consumes more memory than the android stock keyboard. Just need a lightweight, fast, full keyboard.
Suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks.
I've always liked A.I keyboard :
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.aitype.android
Free and pro versions available, and plenty of options to boot. Works well on phones and Tablets.
And Swiftkey is another cracker ;

Regards
I like TouchPal Keyboard.

I like Smart Keyboard its not so 'heavy' and it has many themes

@orb3000: sorry for the wrong thread post. this is the second thread that you moved. so sorry for that. would post on the correct forum section next time. thanks.
@ all: thanks for the suggestions. but from the selection given, how's the memory management? would like to have a keyboard app that hogs 5mb max of mems...
I'm looking for the same, a lightweight keyboard to replace the "Samsung keypad" in my Galaxy S I9000 which takes 12 MB of memory since boot!
If you find something, please let me know.
Thanks.
Try having a look at smart keyboard. Never had a problem with it hogging memory, plus it lets you remove period and comma, something I love as I always hit period instead of the space bar.
Give it a look..
I'd post a link but I'm a noob and I'm not allowed.
Trial in market is a bit annoying but it's definitely worth the money. Best keyboard I've tried yet. And I've pretty much tried them all

Tried smart keyboard trial, but it doesn't feel like I'm into it. I'm still looking forward for a lightweight keyboard, and FREE! hehe!
Try looking on blackmart for it.
You'll have to google blackmart apk since it's not on market.

MultiLing ram usage
It supposed to be a professional forum, if you don't know, don't post. The guy asked for a lightweight input method because he tried some keyboards and found them heavy. You don't help by posting what keyoboard you like without further info.
I tried today Multiling keyboard, it holds (when closed) 8.6 mb ram, compared to default input method that use 7.3 - 9mb. It pops up very quickly, faster that default input method.
I would suggest to try it, aside with default IME.
I have X10 mini with minicm7
Multiling is the fastest keyboard I have experienced. The only drawback i found is that the word prediction/swype feature is not very efficient. Also, it does not come with cloud backup so you would have to do that manually through tools like titanium backup.
The word prediction is very erratic on English. It throws up words sometimes that I have never heard of.

Custom Dictionary

Hey guys.
I've been using blackberries for years, and only used the iphone as a daily driver touchscreen device back when it came out. Now, the autocorrect is giving me stress for the most part, because I do and don't need it. I use the ISC keyboard from the app store and I found most of the dictionaries, and they work fine. But I also speak Papiamentu, which is spoken on three islands, Curacao, Bonaire, and Aruba. When I type in papiamentu, it always tries to change every single word which gets really annoying since I type in papiamentu every day.
Now, I wanted to create my own dictionary, and I found a thread on XDA on how to create my own dictionary, but after reading it I felt like killing myself.
Is there any other way I can "teach" my phone papiamentu the same way I teach any other dictionary a new word? Like double tap on the word and it saves it. That again sounds like it's going to take forever to do. I have a papiamentu dictionary and I'm pretty sure I can find an electronic one where I can copy paste all the words.
For now I will just use another input language which I don't have a dictionary for, that way it wont autocorrect anything, but I was just wondering if it was possible. Thanks
You can use Swype and it will learn any word you manually input.

Asus Keyboard on pad -- issue/question

Hi, I searched this forum and didn't find what I wanted.
After using the Asus Keyboard on my 300t, I noticed that the swype like action is only functional under certain conditions. When Browsing, using SuperNote, or Polaris office, it works very well. BUT when I use another apk--- say with a simple AutoCompleteTextView field, I only can hen peck.
Does anyone know how to enable a apk to fully utilize the Asus Keyboard.
I found this annoying too. I've installed Swype (beta) and found it works well, much better than Asus' attempt.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Unfortunately in my case using theTF300T' swype crashes continuously! ANDing to that iiritation' the email support address for the beta of swype bounced, so no support as yet. I still wonder what stops the Asus Keyboard From working on some apps- Does anyone have thoughts on this. ¿

No, I had noticed though and it drove me crazy. Good thing I really only use the dock to type now lol
Really though, no idea. Maybe someone or a dev could pick through the apk's code and offer some insight?

Thus far, I have tried:
AutoCompleteTextView, and
MultiAutoCompleteTextView.
No help.... -- I am guessing that the apk somehow signals to the Asus keyboard, the sort of support it wants. BUT I haven't been able to see any document to that effect, etc. But I will keep looking...
I called tech support at Asus this evening. After a long conversation --- which got me no where, it seems that I will have to wait until someone who has worked more with this Virtual Keyboard, chimes in. I attempted to use hierarchyviewer to look at the widgets in SuperNote for example. BUT since this is not an emulator, I learned that hierarchyviewer is useless with a real device.
I attempted to contact swype once more and I learned a bit more. The latest beta does better, but still have issues. The very latest swype and it now says: display size not supported... But I was able to send a message to the right person, so I am now hopeful that this will be resolved on the 300t.

Hmmm. I know he's sick ATM and everything, but I wonder if we couldn't drop this by Gary and have him move it along the right channels to whoever would be responsible for their exclusive apps? Just seems to me that the feature should work across the board, I don't understand why the one keyboard app should act differently through scenarios (aside from number-only and password fields and such).
I may find the time to take a look at the apk although I'm no programmer lol
If you are rooted, you can install Keyboard Manager from the play store.
That will allow you to automatically switch to the Asus keyboard when you dock and then you should not have as many issues.
I had problems with auto-correct using Swift Key X and the dock. That solved my issues.
Good thought but I don't dock at present. I just hope they fix it!
