I have a very poor reception with my HTC Amaze. I'm not sure if it's my phone or T-Mobile (I just switched to T-Mobile from ATT).
But I having dropped calls when I'm walking in Manhattan. Even if I'm staying at one place the signal is floating from 4G to no signal and back...
Is anybody also experiencing the same problem?
I actually get better reception then my N1 and my ex-Vibrant. Could be your area.

One major perk I've noticed this phone vs the original EVO -- I have noticed an incredible improvement in the 4G radio penetrating buildings.
I work on a large corporate campus that was build back pre-WWII. The buildings all have thick concrete walls, and I was *NEVER* able to get a sliver of a connection on 4G with the original EVO. 3G was spotty.
On the EVO 3D, I'm experiencing an instant connection to 4G. Speeds are very respectable, ~9000kbps down/1500kbps up. Is it possible they recently implemented tower upgrades? Maybe. I'm thinking it is the phone though. Anybody else notice 4G range and penetration improvements?
Did u apply the ota? I haven't yet and my signal is worse with both 3g and 4G but I'm waiting to do the ota until the problems are fixed
Yeah I applied the OTA. Did not test it prior to the update.
I'm hoping there was a radio update in that cuz I Might have a bad 3vo
I think it is much better, too. I got nothing with my 4G yesterday but in the same location is got a good signal and great speeds and this is in a hospital, too. Yes I applied the OTA.

The 4G signal is definitely better than the Evo 4G. I was able to pull a Fair signal with the 3D vs Poor to no signal in my house on the Evo 4G. I did not take the OTA.
I think i have a bad 3vo...even after the update my signal is consistently worse than my EVO 4G on both 3g and 4G
odd. i did not apply the ota, and do not have nearly as good of signal as the evo had. i'm now considering the ota..
Ok I found something that concerns me. I had my phone sitting in a chair and it had a signal of -81dbm and when I picked it up it changed to -93dbm
That's normal...

My EVO 4G held -86dbm constantly when I held it in this spot of my house
The 3D has WAYYY better radio performance and speeds vs the OG Evo.

I used to get ~5mb down / 1up on the evo..
the evo 3d gets 8mb down / 1.4up (from my house)

your body works like an antenna
Great news guys, I was disappointed when I heard it had the same 4g chip as the evo, but i guess htc did some antenna work.

The radio inside the phone has nothing to do with how well the WiMax signal penetrates buildings, walls, etc. HTC used the same WiMax chip as the original Evo. They might have placed it in a better location in the phone or have updated the radio firmware so it might be able to find and hold on to a weaker signal, but that's it.
I guess if 3G speeds somehow slightly improved after TeamWin got WiMax working for AOSP (separate radio), than anything's possible.
Anyone else have any 4g speeds or signal/performance comments? I know 4g here in chicago really sucks with my OG evo, 3mbps down is usually about it
I noticed the reception of the evo 3d is not that good. I can barely ride my bicycle with internet radio playing. Also bluetooth range is less then my motorola droid when connecting to the same devices. Did HTC make a good phone with poor reception capability, or is it sprint that has bad coverage?
I am considering trying a Nexus S since I'm still within the first 30 days of service. Does that phone have better reception?
Thank for your feedback
I would ask in the Nexus S forums...
My EVO 3D gets very poor signal and reception. Much worse than my regular EVO 4G. I noticed this right away as soon as I activated it and wasnt able to get as good of signal in good coverage areas like I could with previous EVO 4G. Its a combination of poor radio performance as well as poor Sprint service. The EVO 3D is definetely not a good "phone" and that's the most important thing to me.
I had to get rid of my Samsung Galaxy S due to poor reception. I then switched to the Optimus P500 and it was great for reception. I recently got the EVO3D and have had no complaints so far on Rogers in Canada, even in the remote Milton areas where it was questionable with the Galaxy.
Why do I get the feeling that the HTC ONE has the same signal issue that the IPhone 4 had when it came out. My last phone was the MyTouch 4G and between that phone and my wife's I know we get full signal strength and 4g outside and inside our house. With this phone, I can't seem to maintain 4G at all, I'm usually on 2G about 90% of the time no matter where I go. Playing around a little tonight, I noticed that I hold it facing east I get full signal with 4G, oh yeah with my right hand. If I switch hands I lose my signal. If I face the phone north, I lose the signal. This is inside and outside the house. I called tmobile and they gave me some bs line about signal fluctuations and there might be something wrong with the tower. But my wife's phone is working just fine. Anyone else experiencing anything like this?
Nvm about the directional thing, doesn't seem to be doing it now. Must have just been a coincidence.

Hello,
I'm new to this thread as I've been a HTC user forever.
I just got my first of many N3's last week and it seems that I have very low signal in a lot of places where I typically get strong signal.
For example on my HTC Evo 4G LTE I always get 5 bars and there was rarely any dropped calls at my home and office.
On the N3 I now typically only have 1-3 bars.
I'm sure its NOT a SPRINT network issue but a phone issue. Does any one else experience this issue? Is there a fix to get better signal?
Here is what I did with the sprint and verizon N3.
Sprint:
Purchased at Best Buy and had low signal issue and returned it.
Purchased at Sprint Store had low signal issue and I still have this phone.
Verizon:
Purchased at Verizon store and had low signal issue . They suggested exchanging the SIM card which I did but didnt change the signal strength.
Exchanged it for a different N3 and still had the same issue so I've returned it.

Is it actual signal strength your concerned about or is it bar strength in the notification area? Also you can't compare verizon to sprint signal as a fair comparison as they will be different in different areas. Go into your settings and look at the actual signal strength of both phones. They will be measured in dbm.
i'm concerned with the amount of bars in the notification area which has a direct correlation to the amount of dbm in the settings. the sprint phone fluctuates between -91 dbm and -100 dbm.
I was testing a theory that the lte radio had something to do with it so I just went into settings/mobile network/perferred network mode and switched from "LTE/CDMA" to "CDMA" and the phone rebooted and wham , now i have 5 bars and -69 dbm. Something with the lte is messing with the phone. WTH!!!
That means to get a good signal i have to be in CDMA and only get 3g service. Why is this?
I'm out have no explanation. I have/had that problem too, people at the sprint store tells me its a issue of where the software in the phone isn't recognizing the lte the way it should and that a software fix is coming but no one know when. I was dropping so many calls (89% of them per sprint) on the stock rom I was ready to go back to my note 2, but after flashing a different rom I have only dropped one call since rooting and switching roms .
Bump

I don't know if LTE functions on the same frequency as 3g. As a rule from amateur radio, the higher the frequency the transmitter operates on, the shorter distance it travels. 800mhz usually has better penetration of buildings than 3g or 4g if they are on the 1.2ghz+ range. You will need more towers closer together to get better signal overall in the GHz range. Because of cost, I don't think anyone is going to put up more towers in the beginning. Years ago, the guesstimate of putting up a single tower was a million dollars. This is accounting for all costs to go from nothing to a fully functional self standing tower. Costs might be different now but I would say that it's safe to assume that they are putting LTE on existing towers. This is why LTE signal doesn't seem as far reaching as lower frequency technologies. This is as simple of an explanation as I can think of. Until they start widespread rolling out LTE on nextel's 800-900mhz range, and they release phones that take advantage of those bands, you're just going to have to deal with it with what you have as a phone. Spark and ex-nextel LTE transmitters "should" help throughput tremendously once they have the bugs ironed out.
I really want to get this phone, but my main concern would be the signal strength. I have very poor cell signal where I work. Only the iPhone 4s and Galaxy S4 maintained an acceptable signal at work. Other phones seem to constantly switch between 4G-LTE, 4G, G, and even E. Anything below 4G being unusable.
So how is this phone when it comes to the signal strength? Anyone else out there have a similar issue as me, and found the HTC One (M8) to show great reception?

I live in a dead spot for ATT coverage. My GS4 would only show 1-3 bars but the G4 LTE worked all the time. So far (one day) the One M8 shows about the same number of bars, and I've had no trouble with the connection. So bottom line (at least so far) I'd say it is equal in performance to the GS4.
HTH
Imo about the same as gs4, better than m7, WAY better than nexus 5. M8 WiFi better than any phone I have ever had.
