[Q] Performance Question - XPERIA X10 Android Development

Hello,
I have an SE XPERIA X10i on 2.3.3, BB 2.1.71, Kernel 2.6.29, Build 3.01.G.0.75.
It's the stock ROM which I was able to load onto the phone with the 2.1.71 baseband along with Flashtool.
However, I'm a) getting bored of the stock rom, b) find the battery life not so great, c) believe the performance and responsiveness of screen gestures could be better.
I've been thinking of going to FreeX10 2.3 or CM7 2.3.
Now, I don't have xrecovery on the phone since I wiped it clean and bundle installed stock 2.3.3 with Flashtool. My next steps are:
1) How do I get xRecovery back on the phone since I can't root it as it's 2.3. I've read the documentation for Gingerbreak and it looks complicated.
2) What is the best/easiest way of loading a new ROM onto the phone? I imagine it's just to flash a custom zip thru xRecovery but since that's not on the phone anymore, I need to know how to get it back on there.
I'm sorry for the silly questions - I know this forum doesn't take kindly to the under-Android-educated but I do know a bit so far and I'm just looking for some help so constructive advice would be appreciated in advance I probably could figure out all these things on my own by googling but I don't have as much time as I'd like to devote to these priorities. Thanks for all your help in advance friends!

U can use flash tools to install xrecovery.
And next time post in Q&A forum.

Sorry for not posting in the correct section... Since the question was related to ROMs I thought that perhaps it best belonged in this section.
So I can install xRecovery even though my device isn't rooted and is on 2.3.3 stock?

Yes with flashtool 0.4.2 you can.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808
I used this tutorial when i was on stock GB and decided to root, but once you do it, its the best thing to do for the phone.
i also recommend unlocking your bootloader

Read the tutorials in the stickies for noobs. Eveything you need to know is in there
Also, read the thread
"Read this before you post"
Then you will know that questions go in the question and answer section...

[Q] Do I need Custom Kernel for this Rom?

Hello people. Well, I wanted to ask if it's obligatory to use a Custom Kernel with MiniCM7 2.1.9, because a friend of mine wants my help to flash that rom, but he doesn't have unlocked bootloader (and i don't wanna unlock it if it's not really necesary).
So, can I flash the Rom, and then flash the kernel inmediately or something? Or I will have to unlock bootloader to flash? (if i have to, will SE Tweaker Tool make it easy or i have to follow the How-to in development section?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if my english is bad (is not my first language).
You will need a custom kernel (and an unlocked bootloader) to run this ROM as its dependant on a number of files and scripts withinn nAa's kernel.
Unlocking the bootloader isnt terribly scary now compared to a few months ago. The instructions are fairly straight forward, so long as you exercise common sense then you should be ok.
Custom kernels overwright the bootloader - which Sony Ericsson in their infinite wisdom (not) decided to protect even though they gave up updating software quite early on for the x10 mini (pro). If the bootloader is locked then a custom kernel will fail (and brick the phone).
You would normaly unlock bootloader. Flash with flashtool the custom kernel, then use the integrated CWM on the kernel to flash the ROM zip file. You cant flash the ROM and then the kernel as it doesnt really work that way..
Flashtool has alot of features built in now so you probably wont have to worry as much. But do take your time and get everything prepared. I.e. Make sure you have the ability to put the rom zip file on the sd card before you start.

Thanks, but still: should I use Flashtool or SE Tweaker Tool? Because I want to do it the easiest and less dangerous way as posible. I've looked at the Flashtool tutorial a few times, and it's kind of long...
Well which ever suits you..read the main thread of tweaker tool..if you find it easy follow correctly.. Itl be done in few steps.. Or else flashtool also works..

Buy a phone in the XDA phone list, check its forum sections (General, Q&A and Development) for some kind of sticky guides, follow the guides.

First you need to go to the section for your phone. Start by read the stickies and any pertinent information on radios, kernels, and ROMs. Then find the rom, kernel, or radio you want and read it. Start with the OP and then keep reading. Whatever questions you may have will probably have already been answered. If not, then is the time to ask questions in the appropriate Q& A thread. Good luck and enjoy your phone!

This is the best thing to do if you really want to "learn" about android phones, I read almost every thread for my phone for about 3 months before I even rooted my phone. By that time I could root my phone successfully and fix any problems myself along the way.

[Q] How to reflash or reinstall the stock ics update after rooting using DooMLoRD's?

i have an xperia mini pro (sk17i) and updated it to ics and followed the tutorial from this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701357
to root my phone. after rooting it i installed this walkman app:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695048 and then try to change the walkman logo so i tried copying the semcmusic.apk from the same thread and paste it using root explorer. after having done that.i rebooted and my phone no longer has a music player. i tried resetting my phone but to no avail.
question 1: how can i reinstall the music player as a system app so that even if i factory reset it is still there?
question 2: can i reinstall the stock ics so that i can have it?if so, how?
please help me. thanks in advance.
Hi,
question2: you can reflash stock ICS by flashing firmware in Flashtool.
If you have locked bootloader, you can use SUS or PC Companion for flashing too.
Did you set the permission correctly of the new music player?
Yes, you can reinstall the stock player but you need the stock apk. The same way to set permission again.
About reflashing, you can use PCC or SUS or flashtool
Thanks

My answer/suggestion regarding the posted questions above:
1. Back up/copy the apk needed via file manager with root permissions and save it to your SD card. After you are done with flash or what ever mod you are doing restore it by copying it back on its original folder (/system/app) and give proper permission rw-r--r-- reboot your phone and all set. Your app/player is restored.
2. What for? If you install back then you loose root permission on your phone but if you insist. Using flash tool is the easiest so far or you may pay using wotanserver. BTW, a pre-rooted stock kernel is already created out there should you choose to root back your phone.

thanks. tried reflashing it using flashtool and at last after several tries it worked.but then its unrooted again.
Yes it is normal - after flashing firmware you will lose ROOT as well.
To have root again - I recommend flash any modified kernel with ROOT support - I am using KRsH kernel. For this, you need unlocked bootloader.

Modified Kernel:
Pros... Go to the development forum and open any thread which has a [Kernel] tag in the title. Open it and read the features and you will learn.
Yea. Go and read. Do not be shy. Then come back here.
Cons... It is unstable and might cause your phone to explode if you become over excited.
Stock Kernel:
Pros... Its stable, even if you as an user is unstable.
Cons... You will find that out once you get over your shyness and visit the development forum.
Thanks,
Rick

[Q] Downgrade ICS to 2.3.7(Ginger bread)

i have a sony ericson wt19i phone
recently i upgraded it to ICS
but it was slower than GB
so i want to downgrade it to 2.3.7(GB) by using flashtool
for that i need to find the 2.3.7 firmware
Ia any body knows a way to do that please help me :cyclops:
If i can't downgrade as it is what firm ware will suit my phone other than 2.3.4(GB)
You're phone dont have official 2.3.7 firmware. You can download 2.3.4 and flash it with flashtool.
There is no Android 2.3.7 for you, but you can try a custom rom based on it.
There is a sticky thread contain list of roms in the development section.
Look there.

Just use flashtool, there are plenty of threads teaching how to use it
Thanks for your valuble helps :good:
Is there any official firmware for my one other than 2.3.4
I mean like 2.3.5 or 2.3.6
If not, is there any way to increase the speed of my phone(ICS)
No its not a matter of using flashtool
Its a case of finding firmware
Any way
Thanks for your helps :fingers-crossed:

I suggest to you some custom firmwares, like the CyanogenMod, high stability and better performance. Or in the development you can find some nice custom firmwares from the community. Some days doing a research, and you'll be ready to go, carefully reading the FAQs and the instructions, it's not as complicated as it seems =)
Will that firmware suit for my phone?
What ara the disadvantages of using custom rom?
Thank you:good:
Disadvantage is that once you root and unlock bootloader you lose your warranty. But hey the advantages far outweigh it. You have better performance battery speed and smoothness.

If you have not rooted or unlocked bootloader you can't use cyanogen. So quick guide
Bootloader unlocking-

Rooting - well my advice is don't do it. The custom roms like cm already come with root so why bother
Flash the fxp kernel in fast boot using either flash tool or sdk. (Google it) then you'll have cwm. Use it to flash the zip file from your sd card. Before you do anything just search and read around a little. The more you read the less chance there is for anything to go wrong

[Q] [X10] xRecovery on ICS/JB roms?

So, I'm a pretty average custom rom user of an x10a.
I've flashed and tweaked out with several gingerbread roms, without any issues.
Recently I found about the newer 4.1.2 roms for the x10 from late December. And I was wondering, 'cause I want to update to one of those, I understand that they're flashed in the same way 2.3 roms are. But, my xRecovery is the 3.0 gingerbread ready version. So I don't know if it will work at all after I've installed one of the Jelly Bean roms.
So I'm kindly asking anybody who knows on the forum if it will still work after I flash to 4.1.2. 'Cause I'm not certain which rom of the two I found is better for me. And I want to test them both out, but of that of course I'd need xRecovery working.
In short I'm just asking for a y/n answer on will xRecovery for the Xperia x10 work after I've installed a 4.1 custom rom, or will I have to go back to stock 2.3.3 and re-root and unlock my bootloader again?
Big thanks to anybody who replies This is the first post I made here, and probably the only one I'll never need.

copy your choice of rom, ics/jb into your sd card. install the appropriate kernel via flashtool. all ics/jb kernels includes CWM so you should have no problem installing these roms granted that you have unlocked bootloader.

It can be done, but it depends on which kernel you flash.
Some kernels only contain CWM, while others contain xRecovery and CWM.
But you can always flash a kernel that has xRecovery (Like Doomkernel of ferkernel 3.6), and thus you have xRecovery.

What you must understand is that a Rom comes with some installation scripts. CWM and xRecovery will able or not to understand those scripts.
In order to be able to flash a ICS or JB rom from xRecovery it means that the rom has to been prepared to be flashed thanks to xRecovery.
The Recovery "manager" are provided with the kernels, so there shouldn't be anything to ask about xRecovery or CWM regarding Roms,
just flash the kernel that works with your rom and you'll get the correct recovery to install the ROM from.
The only exception is that on some phone, the CM10 kernel doesn't want to go into recovery before flashing CM10 Rom (happened to me when coming from stock gb), so you have to flash CM9 kernel, install CM10 rom and reflash CM10 kernel.
The question of xRecovery and CWM is more when you try to flash some libraries after the installation of the Rom.
So regarding this question, there's no ICS or JB roms (that I know of) that have a xRecovery scripts.
