Trying to avoid making a mistake rooting. The flyer is awesome. Is there a simple way to root other than the long list of procedures with revolutionary?
Using the Revolutionary method to get s-off and then installing su is really the easiest way right now.
If your software is one of the supported ones in htcdev.com, you may do an official bootloader unlock and you don't have to go for Revolutionary s-off.

What is so complicated aout the revolutionary method?
1. Install drivers
2. Run revolutionary
3. Flash su zip file.
There are more steps involved in the HTC unlock approach than this.

Yeah, getting HC you need to follow the instructions to the "T" to avoid issues, but it's not that hard. The Revolutionary part is the easy part!

After trying out Flyhoney (not original owner), I have reverted back to GB. Since I own the EVO, this is what I know and I think I will stick with it till Honeycomb or ICS become official. I don't see the benefits of HC yet and the pen support for GB is there already, although I did S-Off and Install Revolutionary.
To each their own.
P.S. The EVO feels so tiny in my hand after going all day on the Flyer.

That is not referring to the MR1 build. It says 1.0xxxx. MR1 is 1.13.605.7. That is the pre-release build that was used for downgrading in the original root process. The problem was that build had an old hboot that wouldn't interrupt the flash before the security warning happens. Which was a serious issue when we only had 2 RUUs newer than that to recover with. Anything from the release firmware (1.12.605.6) and up should be perfectly fine.

Edit: I just realized you linked to the same instructions I did and you can NOT get back to s-on with that method if you used revolutionary. Revolutionary installs a hard patched hboot that prevents it from being overwritten by any hboot without issueing a specific fastboot oem command.

If you sell it for ~100 and get it for ~200, it could be worth it depending on what you do with your phone.

There's nothing wrong with HTC's method or HBOOT 1.50 or being able to get s-off. They're all the same and accomplish the same thing if you can read and follow directions. People *****ed because HTC locked the phone. They unlocked it and people still ***** and moan. It's not like you're stuck on the stock ROM if you have HBOOT 1.50.
The thing I am unsure about is does HTC give you full root access. Not even flashing ROMS but like super user stuff and seeing into hidden memories.

Yes, it's no different than being S-off other than you cannot downgrade your HBOOT version and maybe radios (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You will need to flash ROMs containing custom kernels a little differently. I think you remove the kernel from the .zip, flash the ROM, and then flash the kernel via fastboot (I could have the order wrong, but it's not complicated and there are several threads about how to do it).
I was trading my evo with the seidio extended battery for a evo 3d and $130

It's not about how complicated it is. It's about how HTC said they would unlock our devices, and they gave us a half assed method of doing it. I shouldn't HAVE to flash kernels through fastboot. I should be able to launch a recovery and flash to my hearts content. It's my god damn phone, they should give me access to it.
HTC's method doesn't give you S-OFF
some people claim you can flash a kernel from fastboot, I followed right along and nope... looks like it flashes, reverts every time on my S-ON unlocked via TWRP or CWM. Sooo, I don't think they're fibbing, but a lot of the S-ON phones are still pretty much un-rooted
Sorry guys, I have a S-On Unlocked EVO3D and installed CMW with Root access.
Is it a temporary root? I still have root access after I reboot it. Or S-Off means other thing?

Your root is permanent. The different between HTC's Unlock and S-OFF is that HTC's Unlock only half-S-Off's your phone. You have to flash kernels and ROMs via fastboot. With S-OFF, you can flash through recovery as you wish.
Anything you flash should permanently stay so your root access should stay.
Ok I guess this is nothing new (I'm sorry for making a new thread but here goes since it's already here!) and honestly there's probably no reason to do this I did it on accident troubleshooting a problem with my mic...
First I did the downgrade procedure using Closeone's awesome live cd it's super easy and really not as scary as one would think!
Once the downgrade was done, had used revolutionary and I had installed Meanrom (Meanrom not necessary) I ended up running the 2.17 RUU which left me with "Relocked and S-OFF"
Then I just did the htcdev unlock (it actually won't let you select yes but it unlocks the bootloader) after this it let me flash a recovery image through fastboot.
Once again sorry this was already known I just had never seen it and wanted to share it with you all in case it might help someone

Reaper24 explained what had happened on the first page. Just an accident. If you are already on HBOOT 1.40, you can unlock the device (S-OFF) with Revolutionary. Upgrading back to 1.50 will still allow S-OFF to work as long as the device was previously unlocked.
Currently, the only known way of getting S-OFF on a HBOOT 1.50 is downgrading it to 1.40 (see Unknownforce's post stickied at the top of the page or my signature).
Thanks anyways nymica.

Afaik, ics still a leak version but so bugless, maybe you'll dind a minor unnecessary bug when using it.. Just in case you find a bug share it to the dev..
Before you're talking about ics for further more, you need to root your devices first in order to gain control of your phone:
1. Unlock your bootloader using htc method
2. And follow the guidance in this link --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17250151
After this 2 step, if you wanna still to gain a permanent root in order to upgrade your baseband, radio, firmware etc, you need to s-off your evo, check this link --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23379702
Careful for the last one, read it carefully or you gonna brick it...
Hope it helps..

HBOOT-1.49.0008
i was using this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535987
but ran into so many errors. For example, heres a few steps:
2. Unlock your device the htcdev way. Visit http://www.htcdev.com and follow the instructions.
You can take a preview of all the steps in attached zip below.
3. Read this post by flashmaniac, http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...88&postcount=1
4. Read this post by happyhallsy8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...58&postcount=1
5. Uninstall the HTC sync application from your computer.
---
well I unlocked it using step 2 no issues, it seems 3 and 4 are irrelevant? But its not really worded or explained well. Is step 5 necessary too?
Now here's where I ran into real problems. I then proceeded to the next steps installing the clockwork mod which worked, i go thru the prompts etc to load the Zips to my SDcard, i then try to install from zip, error, i try to install custom rom from zip, error. I cannot proceed any further.
HELP!
do u need hboot 1.49.0007 for this or what?
mate its because you are still s-on. There's an app called flash image GUI which is what you need, flashing rooms from clockwork mod can only be done with s-off, I successfully gained s-off on my GSM evo with the 1.49 hboot using Revolutionary, its up to you whether you try for s-off or flash roms using the s-on method. Hope that helps.
