Please Help... stumped.. - HTC EVO 3D

MOVING FROM GENERAL
Hi Guys,
I need some help as I cant figure it out..
I am getting an endless booting loop at the htc screen on EVO 3D.. I have Kaama lightweight Kernal loaded 0.7 and flashed the Crypt0s RUU V1.4...it seems any ROM i try now i am getting this and just stays in an endless boot....
Using Recovery cwm-4.0.1.4 Shooteru
Bootloader is unlocked S-ON
HBOOT 1.49.0012
I am stumped now...

GSM EVO 3D?
Its good practice to flash the rom, boot up and let it sync, then go back to recovery and flash the kernel.
Are you able to get to Recovery?

yes i can still get into recovery.. that part is fine, so i am assuming this "can" be fixed somehow....its just beyond me now...
yes it is GSM AUstralian version running on Telstra..

If you are s-on something is wrong with that bpptloader you should be s-off. When you are s-on the kernels will not flash properly. You may be able to flash the rom through fastboot and get the kernel to stick. Search for Joeykrm's guide, I also think there are instructions on synergy or eternity post #2 for the s-on. I'd personally rerun Revolutionary and see if you can't get to s-off first though.

looking around I cant get s-off yet ob Hboot 1.49.0012..
I used the HTC method to unlock the phone....is S-OFF needed?
could I flash to a stock kernal to fix it?

Do ruu

S-OFF is not *needed* but it is preferred. HTC's unlock method forces you to take a few extra inconvenient steps (imagine that!).
In order to flash a kernel on an EVO 3D with s-on and HTC unlock, there are basically two ways which insure all the proper kernel and accompanying module files are loaded correctly:
1) From normal android, use my Flash Image GUI application. This will load the kernel properly.
2) From fastboot, use this command to load a temporary version of the recovery under fastboot mode: fastboot boot C:\downloads\cwm-recovery.img
Hope that helps clarify!

Joey has it right, I thought all of the HTC methods ended up being hboot 1.50. Sorry about that. Still all you need to do is the extra step to flash and all will be good. Doesn't really hurt anything but just an annoyance.

[Q] Is it possible to flash a kernel from fastboot?

I'm trying to install bcblend on my evo, but I'm dealing with the 1.50 hboot, so even though my phone is rooted (currently running Eternity 1.2.2), evidently I can't flash a kernel from recovery. Can I do it from fastboot? If so, what would the command be? I can't quite suss it out myself...my windows command line skills are weak.

need either s-off or htc unlock method to flash kernels.
if using fastboot to boot the recovery and then flashing kernels from there doesnt work, the only other options i've seen for htc unlocked s-on devices would be to fastboot flash the kernel .img .. downside is you'll have to manually load the modules.
from all the posts, seems fastboot boot recovery and loading a kernel from that fastboot boot'd recovery should work.
keep in mind, you'll always have to fastboot boot recovery.img while using htc's unlock method if you want to flash kernels or ROMs which contain kernels. this is due to a limitation in htc's unlock method not allowing the boot (kernel) partition to be flashed from standard recovery mode.

Exactly...fastboot into recovery and you can flash whatever you like....works like a charm.
The method posted in post #2 was the method I had originally used - I did the HTC unlock, then followed the directions. I was able to flash a ROM, which is great - the ROM I'm using is snappier than stock, and the battery life is significantly better, but I was hoping to be able to flash custom kernels as well. If I can't, it's not the biggest deal in the world (pretty much the definition of 1st world problems), but it's frustrating. Step by step, I had done exactly what that said to do.
Ah well...not to be with this phone, unless someone figures out another way to get around the 1.50 hboot. Thanks, guys.
+1 for fastboot. Launch your recovery via fastboot and flash whatever kernel you want.

Trying to root using HTC 1.5 with no success.
Hi to all I have tried to root using the HTC boot unlocker with no success. I was using the step by step instructions from HTC evo hacks. I got to the step at the command prompt where I put in the unlock code and I got this : C:\rootevo3dnew>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.152s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...
(bootloader) unlock token check successfully
OKAY [ 0.007s]
finished. total time: 0.161s
The phone screen asking me to unlock the bootloader never came up. Any help would be appreciated. BTW I have rooted at least 7 EVO 3D's. with no problems.

See the Guide/flashing Notes in my signature. You need to rerun the currently installed "FULL" Ruu or the the Latest RUU, then the unlock will work.
I did the HTCDev and unlocked it went to thread on downgrade from 1.5 hboot to 1.4 tried that and it did not work. I went to try the wire trick and this is what I get when I try to use the controlbear. the phone connects and goes through process but says the following...
======== ControlBear 0.6 beta for JuopunutBear S-OFF ==========
Starting up......
Connecting to device...
Searching device.....
Found device.....but device has no root!!
Press ENTER to exit.....
Any help would be helpful I have tried superuser but wont install, tried rootevo3dnew, temproot sensation Ect. everything says I need to be rooted.
I am running stock rom that shipped with phone and yes I did updates. I am Sprint CDMA 2.17 rom shipped, 1.5 Hboot. I have flashed roms and modded before but dont consider myself to be advanced. I have done flashing and installing roms with my old HTC Touch pro2 but alot easier on touch pro2 LOL... Please point me in the correct place I have beeen all over from this thread to that one and back and forth and yes I have search threads and I have tried them but still come back to the one with wire trick.. Ok, let's make sure we know where you are at to start with. When you use the vol and power button to boot to fastboot, does the phone show "unlocked". If not, I think you need to do the htc method again. I have not kept up recently, but I am not sure there is any method other than the HTC method that works every time for 1.5. I have used the HTC method on two phones without a problem, so that is the method I use.
Once you get that far, I used adb to push or flash the twrp image into the recovery section of the phone. Then you should be able to flash superuser via the install menu of twrp. There are threads that have detailed explanations on how this is done.
Yea, I had a bit of a learning curve from my TP2 also, but love this phone!

In my post Ive included a flashable SuperSU zip. What youll need to do is boot to recovery and install this zip. Then reboot. You should have superuser access then.
Still learning this forum so excuse any errors I make. I've spent the last 10 hours trying to fix the mess I created on my wife's Evo 3d. I was able to root my phone and it was relatively easy so I tackled hers as well and have gotten a bootloop I cannot figure out, 10 hours later. I'm on hboot 1.5. I unlocked the phone (using a pretty reliable video), loaded 4EXT Recovery then tried to load roms. Everything worked fine until the rom-loading portion. Since then, the phone loops, but once or twice it made it all the way to the main screen and before I could slide the ring, a read error message appeared next to the bars of service then the phone just completely reboots. Right now, the only thing I can get into is the bootloader and the clockworkmod v4.0.1.4, somehow I lost my 4EXT Recovery. I'm stuck and in dire straights as my wife is going out of town and will KILL me if I don't fix her phone. Please help! BTW, somehow I managed to NOT back anything up (stupidity on my part). Will I be able to get this thing back to stock at least or is it now a paperweight?

Your not bricked by any means. And Im going to guess you tried to boot an ICS rom.. dont. They dont work with hboot 1.5. If you really want to go back to stock run the 2.17 RUU and youll be back to where you started. Another option is to download a GB rom and flash that. Not ICS. If your able to get to the bootloader than you can still load up 4ext recovery so you can flash the GB rom.
Edit: some hboot 1.5 users are lucky and can flash them if they used the correct VM firmware but majority of users have problems.

Thanks, I just tried flashing a rom that has taken it back to stock but I'm still in the bootloop. Should I stop flashing and simply locate the RUU?
22410,
It sounds like the kernel did not flash correctly with 4ext Recovery (next time, make sure u indicat S-on in its settings). I'm not sure if you were just stock 2.17 rooted or not, but use 7zip on your pc to open & extract/copy out the "boot.img" file from the rom, zip, etc you were using and copy it to your fastboot pc folder. Still have the Cwm 4.0.1.4 recovery.IMG file there too right (or the 4ext recovery.img file)? Ok...
- put phone in fastboot usb mode
From PC's fastboot command prompt type:
- " fastboot flash boot boot.img "
(this will reflash the kernel/boot image extracted from a rom)
If your recovery is screwed up:
- " fastboot flash recovery YourRecoveryFilename.img "
(ie: cwm_4.0.1.4_recovery.img or recovery.img, etc as listed in fastboot folder, to reflash a recovery to your phone).
With S-on, to properly enter a recovery for flashing ANYTHING you must:
- " fastboot boot YourRecoveryFilename.img "
(doesn't apply if using 4ext's Smartflash or TWRP's Dumlock settings. But you must have a bootable android OS/kernel first, once the flash is screwed it won't work).
If u have a Sprint CDMA EVO3D/HTC Unlocked & S-on (not Jbear s-Off), then the guide in my signature has more info.
Edit: as NIN said you will likely have problems flashing ICS roms with S-on (hboot version doesn't matter). If u are still unlocked & have a working recovery u can flash any gb Rom successfully after wiping system, data, & cache (or run superwipe zip). Meanrom GB v4.5 recommended.

[Q] HELP PLEASE GSM USER stuck on HTC screen

so i just got this rezzy. downloaded the n00b proof "HTC Rezound AIO toolkit v2.0..... followed al of teh steps to get teh bootloader unlocked, rooted and tried to install VENASAUR. stuck on the HTC screen when trying to boot. have tried to install MIUI v4 2.6.1 Vigor Port GSM/CDMA as well. am i missing an all important step? i also looked into the kernel stuff too........ i just want to use my phone........
You need to flash a kernel sounds like. Are you s-off?
did you flash the ICS RUU?
*** UNLOCKED ***
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-ON RL

thats what it says, i downloaded the s-off tool after i had this problem. i can get into fastboot and Hasoon's tool v2 works for caommands as far as reboot and what not. the s-off tool wont work because i need it to be able to boot. im thinking if i can just get a RUU and maybe get it to reboot into whatever the first white screen is called with the details from above, then it should flash and boot so i can start over....... the whole process here is similar to the one i used from when i had the HTC Inspire 4G. it was all included in one bundle tho.
and flashing a kernel is a nogo. tried that and its still looping on the HTC screen
also, nope i didnt flash a ruu yet. it was on 2.3.4 before i started.

So...
all you have to do is fastboot flash a boot image.
Since you are S-On and trying to flash a rom ment for S-Off, you can run this rom, but you will need to pull the boot img from the rom and fastboot flash boot boot.img the boot.img file.
Plenty of threads on how to do this. Search button is your friend.
Just s-off now so you don't have to worry about fastboot boot.img files ever again
i cant get it to boot period to get the s-off to work....
so, say i have the miui rom and i unzip it, after i do and look into the folder, teh boot.img, its the first one? fo i need to rename it? also, i just put it in the root of the external then reboot bootloader? when i do that it says a bunch of looking for pm98 something or another...... wait a minute, i think i just answered my own question.... brb
s-off only requires the phone to be able to get into fastboot.
if you can get to the bootloader you're good.

CM10 won't boot. Kernel issue?

Well, I'm currently on the GSM evo 3d, ICS stock RUU with Hboot 1.53.007 and S-on (Because I can't figure out how to S-Off). I've tried all of the following scenarios in order to get CM10 to work.
1. Use smartflash from 4ext recovery and flash the CM10 zip with boot.img inside it.
2. Flash boot.img via fastboot (Fastboot flash boot boot.img) and then use smartflash from 4ext and flash the CM10 zip with boot.img in it.
3. Flash boot.img via Flash Image Gui and then use smartflash from 4ext and flash the CM10 zip with boot.img in it.
I've tried all of the above steps again without using smartflash and 4ext and rather using Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Any help is appreciated. It always loads the HTC screen, then shows the boot animation for a second or two, and then boot loops.
I'm not GSM, but on CDMA, CM10 doesn't boot on the latest hboot so maybe that's the issue. Also, I think you need s-off, but I'm not sure on this one.

CDMA here, but looking at the threads... people have issues with the 1.53.007 HBOOT. You need to downgrade to the 1.49 which requires S-OFF. S-OFF is pretty easy, the wire-trick is actually pretty easy too- you can use a paperclip!

Can anyone tell me if i can put a stock rom back on and it will fix boot loop or i heard about relock but don't know how to do it. Ive rooted other devices and jail broken devices but never had a problem like this. Help is much appreciated. Thanks
edit: I used a video on youtube but cant post the link :/
ClockWorkMod Recovery was used in it so i think i have it still.
I have tried the factory reset from the boot menu (power + vol down)

Don't panic tanker, lol I can help you out with this. Here is the reasons behind your boot loop
Your recovery,
Your hboot
Your kernel
Let me elaborate. Cwm has been known to cause lots of problem with evo3d flashing latest twrp or 4ext recovery is recommended. Highly for 4ext. Now before I explain about hboot and kernel, currently you are a s-on user. What that means is that you only have access to certain partitions in the nand memory. System, data, and recovery. That leaves radios and boot partition( that's where your kernel sits) inaccessible through normal recovery means. Anytime you flash a ROM inside of recovery, you phone can't flash the kernel that came with it. So in actuality, your still on stock kernel with mean ROM.
Now for the solution. Your in a endless boot loop with your phone so you will have to download 4ext recovery for your phone and place the recovery image in your fastboot directory. Hook your phone up to the computer and run the command fastboot flash recovery "whatever the name of recovery"img . Boot into recovery and navigate to tools directory. Scroll down and turn on smart flash. This feature will allow you to flash kernels within recovery for s-on users. Wioe everything and flash your ROM again.
Now as for your kernel. Hboot 1.58 is only compatible with ICS stock kernels. That's the main point of your problem. What you will need to do is navigate to the meanrom folder and select the 2.89 kernel and flash it. Your phone should be able to boot up properly after that.
If that doesn't work, you could also try the first step of Ramjet's thread. That will get you back to stock and hopefully not bootlooping. Then if you continue the steps, you'll be s-off which makes flashing easier. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438

Funny. No you cannot make up file names, or commands...
First of all you need fastboot application. Save it to c:/fastboot folder.
1. Open CMD, type cd fastboot to enter fastboot folder
2. Type : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (where recovery.img is the name of your recovery choice weather it is TWRP, 3eXT, or CWM.
I am currently using 4eXT, which I switched to from TWRP
And that's it after its done you should have a flashed recovery on your EVO 3D
Maybe I should add that the "recovery.img" file HAS to be inside c:/fastboot folder.
Good luck. If that doesn't fix it, or if you need any recovery images that worked on my phone, POST

restore rom
When you flashed rom did u make back up cause you could always restore old rom. And you could try flashing the right kernel but most of the time it cause you have to flash boot image that worked for me in trying flash cm 10.1 and I keep get bootloops my self try figure this one out. Same hboot 1.58 2.89 base

Give me a bit mire info on this. I can help for sure. The evo3d is a pita but we can get it. So basically if I understand, you're stock rooted but have s-on and im assuming all roms are bootlooping?

Yes, that's were I am at this point. Right now I've got MeanRom booting to the homescreen seems like it's going to work, but the time is wrong and there's no service, before it can completely boot, bam, shuts down and reboots.
It does the same for the stock Sprint ROM.
Unfortunately I didn't make a backup of the phone when I gor it so I'm using a downloaded one.
I had Meanrom running on another 3D not too long ago, but don't remember it being this troublesome. What did I miss?

Ok well the first thing you need to do is downgrade your hboot to v 1.49000. I posted a link on the first page. If you were stock you coukd get s-off via the wire trick
But since you're s-on you need to flash the boot.img in fastboot and then flash the rom or vise versa. I cant remember which one needs to be done first as its been a while since I've used my evo3d. Basically anything thats ics and above cant be flashed unless you downgrade your hboot. Htc sent a hidden hboot ota to you at some point without your knowledge to prevent you from flashing. So downgrading your hboot is your #1 priority and you need to get back to stock to get s-off too

Using the wrong ROM!! Got it to boot using MeanRom ICS. Thanks!
Can I get S-OFF with MeanRom flashed? Or do I need to flash a rooted stock ROM?
