Hi All,
recently i was shown some web sites that you can "real time" check traffic cameras.
would it be possible to make an app that can take your location and possibly link to the cameras that are on your immediate journey.
i.e. check how much longer you may be stuck in the traffic.
i could then decide whether i should come of the next available junction or sit it out ( especially in this traffic stopping weather)
if you need me to explain more let me know.
thanks in advance

I think that's a really fantastic idea, but I think it would be slightly illegal, unless of course your passenger was to use it.
thanks for the encouragemtn john.
of course i understand the legal ramifications. my idea was when you are jammed up and tearing your hair out because you have moved 5 metres in an hour.

Yeah, that sounds great! My biggest beef with my current satnav (CoPilot - don't know about any others) is that it won't tell me that there's a 5 mile tailback ahead and will let me pass an exit of the motorway and find out myself.
Nice idea mate - I hope someone with the relevant skills to do it agrees!
ha ha dude. i have co pilot too version 6.
tbh i dont really understand the live traffic thing more to the point i dont really know whether to trust it.
Look for an app called CamerAware. It works with the GPS radio.

I looked at this - it warns about "safety" cameras - I think what the original poster was after was an app to warn about delays rather than speed traps.

I have this feature via Weather Panel. If you check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401781 you'll see it in the screenshots or a youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9Jx_brSqfY
I have many of the cameras set up in the radars for routes I always use (in the UK here so all down the M6 & M1). This thread will show you how to set up the cameras http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2416705&postcount=95
Via the application M2D Today Page I have this running from M2D......
Hope this helps.
Ps. A stand alone application would be useful, but it couldn't use GEO Services etc for current location, as you are more likely to want to check where you are going, not where you are now! Linking it to a satnav application or a route planning website would be tough, as I don't know what location details are provided with the list of available cameras.... Although I'm sure there is some genius on here that could work it out!
Anyone tried Waze?
I just heard about Waze, which seems fairly new - especially outside the US - but seems to offer much of what the original post asked for.
Anyone tried it?
Any thoughts on an app called app planet? I've heard conflicting stories just trying to get some clarification. Thanks.
App planet is highly questionable on a moral level. It is just like the market app BUT only features hacked paid apps. If you are into "stolen" apps you will enjoy app planet but be wary as some apps may contain harmful code. What you see is not always what you get. Virus and data mining are always a risk.
I hope this answers your question. Proceed with caution!

Nevermind....
That is helpful... This is my first Android, just trying to learn as much as I can. And... Not destroying anything in the process.
My feelings... if someone can't support a developer and pay pocket change for their app that they are going to use, it's pathetic. If people feel $1-$5 is too much, maybe they shouldn't be spending money each month on a cell phone bill...
You're absolutely right... This was a conversation I had with someone last night who wanted to show off his rooted d2. I told him I was using a rooted TB and he tried to one up with this app. I felt it was a little odd to have all apps available for free and he doesn't read this site. Now I can relay the message.
The Amazon app store on the other hand offers a free app every day
i totally understand that stealing apps from applanet is wrong but i think there are still several good uses. i have used it a couple times to download apps that were no longer available in the market like rom gripper and also blocked apps like wireless tether. i also have used it to try out a paid app for more than 15 mins allowed by the official market. if i liked it, i went on the regular market and bought it! it DOESNT HAVE to be used for piracy only....

When did it change from 24 hours to 15 minutes? I noticed this the other day and think its stupid, 15 minutes isn't long enough to test some apps.

This was to help developers, I will agree, 15 minutes is a bit short. But it is needed because of the amount of people that would buy a paid app, use it for that day, then "return" it. That and i'm sure people were downloading the paid app, ripping the apk, then "returning" the app, but still having the full paid version.

The funny thing is that 15 minutes is enough time to rip the apk but not enough time to even check out an app to see if I like it or not. I support the devs but this is going to hurt devs I think. I no longer try any paid app without finding it on the web instead of the market.
No discussion of Warez.
So! I am using the latest CM7 build(RC 1.6.1), MR2 Radio, stock kernels and I live on the east coast US. I'm using Fancy Widgets because it's a pretty decent and free replacement for a sense-like clock. But I am often getting an issue that effects not only it, but the default News and Weather App that says I am located in Klaipėda. I can sometimes fix it by opening Google Maps and refreshing my location there, and then refreshing my location in FW. My clock seems to be fine, but the widget app displays a moon after around 2PM. Anyone have ideas?
Yes, you are really in Lithuania. Your phone knows much better about where you are than you do. I mean it has GPS for s***sake.
But really...this has been covered hundreds of times in any CM7 tbolt thread you can find.
It's a problem with network location. Some suggested turning "Mock Locations" off in Applications/Development helped. Others said it made no difference.
BTW, in case Google is a little intimidating I'll get you started...http://www.google.com/search?q=(fan...ation+cm7+thunderbolt+site:xda-developers.com or http://www.google.com/search?q=(fan...ocation+cm7+thunderbolt+RC+site:rootzwiki.com

I'll try using the turning off Mock Locations and see where that gets me. I didn't see it in every thunderbolt thread, probably should have looked just a littler harder. But I seriously thank you for reminding me to use Google in such a way. I mean, it's so useful for finding many things, look at what else I just found.

I disagree, telling people they are 'special' when they couldn't find something through searching and telling them and suggesting that Google is intimidating comes off rather rude. Not to mention posting a 'TooLongDidntRead.' But maybe I'm just reading too much into this.

If you read a number of my posts, especially some in the dInc forum, I have a tendency to come of VERY blunt with a good does of my own personal character and opinion. It doesn't always come off as well in writing as it does in person. Absolute_Zero is a good guy and will do anything he can to help. I'm sure you can depend on him to answer any question you might have, but like many of the rest of us, I see his point in searching first. There's a lot of people here that know a lot of stuff who didn't obtain that knowledge by question, but rather, by searching it out, and there's a frustration that comes with seeing a question arise that hasn't been researched before posting... at least that's the assumption.
Let's just let it go. This isn't an issue that's going to enrich anyone.

I'd say turn off mock locations, set your location manually and/or use gps to get it. You should be fine then.
I am confused. Where is Facebook, Google+, Gmail, google voice, 3rd party messengers, Tinder, full navigation, youtube...etc? Shouldn't I be able to fully respond to messages on most apps but the apps arent even available in store. Can't log into a business wifi network that has welcome screen. All the apps in the samsung store are pointless except for maybe 10. I'm really lost here. WHat am I suppose to do with this $400 watch? lmao Its on my wrist right now and I'm like uh........ Maybe this was just for Marathon runners? lol
yea they're lacking on the software department. if they don't get enough companies to jump on board to their custom OS it's going to fail
Probably should have browsed the gear 2 area before jumping into this one as it's the same device but with cell radios. Same complaints for the last year. Lol
Yes same thought here I can't this this lasting tizen is dead already not enough devs signed up for development Samsung just trying to get a slice of the pie give it six months it will join the rest of the dead end gear lol in the back of my drawer

Google Now gives me updates on weather and when to leave for appointments and how long it's going to take. I like that. It's Tizen and Samsung not Google, so I never expected Google Now. Hangouts is the only app I'd really like to see added over text messages.
My big beef is that I can't reply to emails send emails or even create tasks with s-voice. Those few things will make me happy but they need to happen soon.

Or how about just having wifi that’s included on the app? I understand every app is not going to make every user happy. I was just giving examples. I have a 2 inch screen on my risk.... Thought it was going to do something. Not necessarily make me fly but just common task. Maybe respond to emails or hangouts? Am I reaching to far? Full GPS car navigation? Am I still reaching to far? Google VOice app so all calls show same number as my phone? I'm just barley touching my toes.. Hope I'm still not reaching too far.
Google does not allow Google apps on non Google certified mobile devices and certainly not on other OSes other than iOS ... and we know why that is. End of story.
If you need Google apps on a watch this device is not for you. See how Android Wear works for you.

if by justice you mean features that require internet and my personal information and habits, those are features that i dont need or will ever use.
if you are talking general speed and battery usage and functioning with the apps i use the most, then logging into google on my phone is not needed.
the phone might have the power to calculate the need parameters to build a space ship and put a man on mars, but using that power to smooth out my crows feet, socialize online looking for 5000 likes and 2 millions followers , is not a improvement in tech use.

If you know what you're doing you can log in with a Google account and not give out all the information you mentioned. There are a lot of privacy concerns these days all you need to do is some research. I'm sure you can figure something out that will accomplish your goals. Good luck.
Try freezing Google systems and Play services.
There are different apps that can do this, but you will need root.

I think he means not cutting off your nose to spite your face. Google credentials are needed for Play Store, like for keeping Carrier Services and whatnot updated. It's possible to push back against data harvesters while using stock Android, especially with root access. But it sounds like you'd rather take your concerns to the next level with something like CalyxOS and a Play Store alternative.

So, you don't want the Google experience yet you bought a Google-branded phone? Just a bit of an oxymoron there. Seriously, while I could ask why you bought a Google phone if you don't intend to use Google services, it would be a pointless waste of time and energy.
Install a custom ROM that doesn't use Google services and don't look back. Just don't complain when you can't take advantage of a Google-exclusive feature as a result.

You do realize that as a society we are all walking around with computers thousands of time faster than we had sitting on our desks 20 years ago. That have dozens of sensors, connected to wireless networks, that can cover nearly every inch of the surface of the planet. What you're worried about is what we (the collective nerds/geeks/privacy advocates) were screaming at the top of our lungs back in the 90s...before it was too late.

It wasn't productive from the first post. It simply is an excuse for him to rant and rave about how Google is a data whore and all that. I can understand that, as I once was like him. Perhaps I am in the wrong here for being so blasé over Google's data collection, but I stopped worrying years ago about it. I figured the benefits outweighed the liabilities.
It's rather entitled to expect to have all the benefits of a smartphone while having none of the liabilities. I think if I were truly that worried about data collection to rant about it in a public forum I wouldn't be using a phone at all. After all, every phone made today, from the most expensive smartphone to the cheapest dumbphone, has sensors in it that can track you, even when the phone is off.
