[Q] Volume keys to wake? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I was just wondering, if anyone knows if it is possible to have the volume keys to wake the phone up...

I was just playing with {GalnetMIUI 1.11.7} {ICS 4.0.1} today, it has a "volume rocker wake" option in "Button Setting" in the system setting.
I never used other MIUI tho I don't know about other version.

Also cm7 has options for waking up the phone, since miui is built off of cm7 base is why it has it also.

Or use WidgetLocker. It has an option for Volume wake up phone

I tried widget locker and that doesn't work...

This has been my wish for a while. Widgetlocker is unable to bring our devices out of deep suspend. I've been looking for a kernel that has characteristics that may allow Widgetlocker to do this (Entropy said he'd look into it if I found one). So far, no luck.

[Q] Unlock / Turn screen on with volume buttons

My power button is broken on my samsung captivate and im aware that with widget locker you can use the volume buttons to turn the screen on but id much rather use the lockscreen on the MIUI rom currently on my phone.
Anyone got any answers?
Well, I know you said you're on Miui, but I know CM7 has its own setting to wake with volume buttons. Perhaps Miui does as well? And yes, I can confirm that Widgetlocker does have the option too. And WL is amazing. Completely customizable. There are many custom sliders for WL that are even patterned after the Miui style.

If you cant find it, your best best is to find a patch made for your phone or a similar phone that does it and open it and see what it does and mod accordingly. There was one for my phone if you were running HTC Sense.

[Q] To vibrate or not to vibrate!

By default I leave my phone on silent but with vibrate on. However there are times, for example during school when I put my phone of the desk, where I need the vibration to not happen either.
This is my first smartphone -- my last phone, the wonderful LG Xenon, could do this easily.. It started at volume 7/7 and as I hit the side volume button, it went down to 6, 5, etc, to 1, to Silent + vibrate, to Silent w/o vibrate. On my Samsung Galaxy 2 I have to go in the settings to change the vibrate? Seems a little harsh..
Does anyone know of a way to change it to work as mentioned above? Is there a plug-in (not an actual app please) to make it as simple as that?
Thanks
I use CM9 and I have added the sound icon to my power widget bar (the shortcuts you see once you pull the notification bar). In settings I can choose how I want the sound button to cycle through different options - so you can set it to whatever you want including silence and vibrate only etc.)
We really need to know what ROM you're using. On AOKP it works just like you said, the buttons on the side work like this: High volume -> Low volume -> Vibrate -> Silent
It sounds like you may be running Stock (Factory) ROM. I haven't used that in forever but if that's what you're on, I would highly recommend moving to one of the wonderful ICS roms here in the forums.
I don't use vibrate mode, either silent or normal ringing.
I haven't rooted my phone yet. It seems like a lot of work/learning for too little of a payoff (not saying it doesnt open up a lot of features, just not a whole lot that I'D use). So i guess I'm running the stock/factory ROM, but I'm using GO Launcher
This works via the volume rocker in aokp. Hold volume - until its on vibrate. Press volume - again to turn off vibrate.

On my stock 2.3.4 w/Entropy's DD kernel, it's High volume -> Low Volume -> Vibrate. No silent mode with the buttons.
I put mine on vibrate when it's in my pocket.

That would be because he said it works via the volume rocker in AOKP ROM. Thats Android Open Kang Project. A ROM here in the development forums. Not stock. I'm not sure if there is an app to do what u want. But in either case, I highly suggest u root your phone (its very easy now adayz) and flash a custom ROM. I would suggest AOKP of course. The benefits far outweigh the risk my friend. Good luck and happy flashing.

Since you're using go launcher try checking out the Go Switch Widget. I know you said you'd prefer not to use any extra apps but its really a plugin for the launcher you already use. It has a button option for turning on the sound as well as a separate vibrate button. Its also customizable so you can choose just the vibrate button so the widget would be small and not take up much of your screen space.
Hope that's helps
With Stock ROM, in Settings/Sound/Vibration/ select"Only when not in silent mode". Will not vibrate when Silent selected with rocker. Not option for silent+vibrate in addition to silent only.

Ah!! Ive been using this widget already for individual brightness and battery widgets. In fact i even had a missing space in the row of 4 (I also have the flashlight widget), so this fits perfectly. Thanks so much
Problem solved!

[Q] Volume rocker to wake

Im looking for a way to add 'Volume rocker to wake' function to my HOX+ its rooted and running AR 6.2. I know it might need some coding which I have very little experiance with so if it involves that a "Fools" Guide to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Both Viper roms have this option inside tweaks, you can wake phone using VOL UP and/or turn it off using VOL DOWN..

There is obviously a bug by using the ViperX+V1.0 ROM with the Viper Kernel...
After a few seconds, the ROM doesn't react on the volume rockers, they seem to be deactivated at some point..

Okay, the problem has something to do with Titanium Backup Pro!
Make sure you dont freeze HTC Media Link and Personalization!
I did it for hiding the Buttons in the App-Menu.
After rebooting my HOX+ the whole Sense Workspace was gone - nothing showed up, even after a few reboots.
Then I reactivated all freezed Applications in Titanium Backup Pro.
Now the volume rockers work proper for wakeup!
To threadstarter:
The Venom team done awesome work!
Get the ViperX+ ROM and re love your phone
just amazing!
Thanks.

[Q] Post ICS WidgetLocker Issue - Easy Wake

Greetings!
I got the ICS OTA update yesterday and noticed that the Easy Wake option no longer works in WidgetLocker. It worked just fine before the update as I could use the volume buttons to wake the phone. Since the update I'm forced to use the power button. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix to "reactivate" the volume rocker as a wake button?
I've done the clear cache reboot thing (mostly to speed up the interface which worked well) and updated WL to the latest version to no avail. Thoughts?
Thanks!
TB
You probably should inform the app developer that the thunderbolt got an update to ics.

Sorry, If the system software does not allow easy wake mode there is nothing an app can do to change this.

Above is Kevin's response when I ask him about the volume wake issue. It looks like the only fix is to root your phone and install a rom that has volume wake baked in.
Yup. That was going to be my next suggestion.

Volume wake on official 4.1.2

Hi, I'm on the official Samsung update and wanted to know if there is an app or Something that would allow the volume rockers to wake the phone instead of the power button. Searched the play store but all I could find was the "proximity sensor" wake apps but I find they drain too much battery.
Have you guys found any tweaks??
FOUND flashable zip!
found a thread with a flashable zip, do you know if it works with our phone? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987669
If a mod isn't for your phone you stand a good chance of borking your phone.
If you don't mind me asking, what's so great about volume wake?
its just to prevent damaging the power button from over use, if im able to wake using volume rockers it evens the button usage

For those with the sticky power button issue that'll cause boot loops.
Have you found a solution yet? I tried to modify the key layout files and set all Volume Up/Down to wake, no luck.
Thanks

hey im using an app called "tap tap app", i wake using the proximity sensor and you turn the screen off by using a widget button. not exactly what i was looking for but its been doing a good job of reducing my power button usage.
Doesn't work for me, even after I select "invert sensor". Anyway, thanks
