I have the EVO 3d. I have read through many places about rooting the phone. I am basically looking for a solution so that I can use the FREE wifi tether. I really don't want to do the HTC unlock method because I understand that it voids my warranty, and don't want to have any situation down the road. I know that there was a way on revolutionary.io... but that was for hboot up to 1.40.0000. Most of us have 1.50.000 like me.
Any suggestions?
HTC unlock method won't void anything differently than any other root process. Only way to get free hotspot is to root.

Thank you for your information. I will have to search through and find the easiest way to get wifi tether if I do the HTC unlock method.

my 4g works though, getting good speed, what did i do wrong.

The logical reasoning behind this would be, the availability to use WiFi tether will depend based on cell phone carrier.
The above user has the Egyptian flag, usually indicating they reside in that country and also has a signature for the GSM version of the EVO 3D (I don't think sold in the US).
Fairly confident the Sprint version of the EVO 3D will not offer "free" wifi tether/hot spot as they charge roughly $30 a month for this servce reasoning it will significantly increase data usage.
The only method to obtain WiFi tether w/o paying the Sprint monthly fee will be to use a 3rd party application which requires root access in order to properly establish the correct connections on the device.
In theory, I would imagine it is possible to use WiFi tether w/o root access but it would require somebody to reverse engineer the Sprint hotspot application and essentially disable the authentication mechanism. Not sure if this has been done or not.
Hope that helps!
Good Point...
Thanks. I didn't even read enough fully. You are more than likely correct.
U can hack the sprint hotspor and use it for free. Most roms have it hack and a 3rd party tethering app installed.

Hardly but apparently usb tether app will work.

It isn't possible to put the changed files in place, but i can't remember which dev (either leoisright or xhausx) said the edited tether is ready to be pushed to the system as soon as we do get root.
Another thing I've heard though is that usb tether works without having to pay (and without unlock/root). I heard that the pay service is just for the wireless tether. I haven't verified but let me know if that works for you.

I randomly found a USB tether app on the Market called "Klink" and it seems to cap your bandwidth to 1 MBit.. peaking at 2MBit at highest. If you need tethering now I'd suggest PDANet or EasyTether. I've not tested PDANet on the 3vo yet, but I'd bet it'd work fine. It's not worth my $15 though....

Try to connect and see what it says, if they are going to charge you they have to tell you first. You will get a message similar to : You have not signed up for this service, to add it to your account call or go online today.
If you don't get the message than Sprint might be offering free for a limited time to get you hooked on it. If we don't get root, they may have a lot of new tether customers.

I thought that was only for wireless tether, but I guess it makes sense they would lock both down. If you're rooted you could see if the ROMs which have unlocked WIFI tether/hotspot also have unlocked USB.
As for the apps, I know FOR A FACT that both "pdanet" and "easytether" work. IIRC both require a fee to get full access, so if it's a money issue you could ask about it in a ROM thread, maybe a dev could hack it for you.
I used pdanet app from the market on unrooted phone and it worked like a charm. Check it out.

So, just got a nexus 7 and want to to use my Amaze to tether to it for mobile data. I've searched around A LOT and not found a post that answers my question. I've seen several posts about tether hacking APN's and "viewing formats"? to trick T-MO into seeing the downloaded info as being a mobile device, or specifically an Android device. I don't want the hassle or know if it's possible from my tablet to my phone. I am actually looking for an APP that permits tethering. I am willing to pay for it, but I haven't found one that works. I've tried several free versions that permit you to test the app before buying the paid version. And some others that try using the stock tethering but use the aftermarket APP to get to it. Nothing works. Either T-MO blocks it still, or it can never fully connect. Does anyone know an app that works? I have an unlocked bootloader, and am running Eclipzes speed rom. I AM S-ON. Will S-OFF help? Any advice is appreciated.

That works for me and a stock only ever temp rooted Amaze 4g. You said you are willing to pay, then you could just pay T-Mobile if that is the case. No need to pay any 3rd party if that what you decide.

Yeah, I meant pay for an app once and be done. $15 per month for the foreseeable future just to access to my own data plan is stupid. I'll try that method. Does anyone know if I go back to gingerbread if I'll regain the feature? Has anyone tried this? I would be willing to go that route, the Nexus is my play toy now so it won't bother me soo much to be running 2.3 on the Amaze. Although I'll miss speed rom...

flash a custom rom then you can easily achieve tethering
if you want to stay stock rooted, there's a mod to remove AT&T from the signal bar so it just shows 3G, H+...etc that will also allow you to tether directly from the built in hot spot. forgot the mod name otherwise i would have thrown you a link. you can probably find it on xda

That's fantastic news. When rooting the first time, I used this toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587677. It has run apps requiring root so I think it is still rooted although I wish it would tell me when it updates because ATT no longer seems to find any except for individual apps. Once I got it rooted, I didn't follow through with a custom ROM because I didn't know how to check the popularity and stability of them. I would love to have tethering so that I can hot spot my phone when needed, and I would also like to have 'real' call recording as opposed to microphone based call recording. Assistance in where to go with this would be greatly appreciated.
This mod will enable the Native Tethering on your AT&T HTC M8. All credit for the creation of this mod goes to Miller_Kid for his excellent work.
The purpose of this mod is for those of us (myself included) to be able to stay on our stock rom and still be able to enjoy a feature that is, by default blocked by the carrier, without flashing any custom rom.

If you don't have a plan that supports tethering, because AT&T only allows the feature on certain data plans, you won't be able to get it.

All this does is remove the limitation that's built into the system of the device. It does not change anything other than a string of code on the device itself. I can't guarantee AT&T will not figure it out, but if you are smart about it they'll never know. I use tethering every once in a while when my home wifi is struggling. I mainly tether to my iPad mini for streaming YouTube, but occasionally other things like movies and downloading games as well. AT&T never caught on to me. Sadly my dad took it upon himself to change our entire families data plan so he save a measly $5 a person. I told him I'd give him the damn $25 a month but oh well.... Maybe I'll just tether more and we'll go over our data usage and then he'll have to switch it. I've already confirmed with a friend at AT&T that I can have mine back dated and re-activated.
Anyway, enough of being sidetracked, to make a long explanation short.... You won't get caught because of this mod. You'd only get caught of you way way way over use this mod.

Agree with all in the above response to this question. Also, AT&T's method of detection is network based. There is nothing I have seen that on the phone side (mod, etc) that can prevent this.
If your behavior is discrete, and usage is low and only occasional, you will not be caught. Tether large amounts of data, and you will almost certainly be caught.

Agreed on all but the large amounts of data. I would agree with this when on computer and full websites, but like on the iPad or other tablet that use mobile websites rather than full sized I believe your safe because their detection would see that it's a mobile format and therefore not arouse suspicion (If that makes sense)...

Its unlikely they are looking at webpages and whether they were mobile format or not. The data packets are tagged as tethered, it doesn't matter whether you were viewing mobile pages or not (and that isn't going to conceal the tethering). At least that what folks here that are smarter than me have stated. If true, that means that AT&T can detect any tethering, they just choose not to enforce with zero tolerance (possibly because its simply not practical), but rather to use some additional parameters to decide whether a person is going to receive the "warning" email and subsequently have a tethering plan added to their account.
Nobody here knows for sure what parameters AT&T uses to trigger the "warning" email (and probably not info that AT&T is going to volunteer). But volume of tethered data has been reasonably speculated. I'm surprised to hear that you were able stream YouTube, other movies, and downloads, without getting caught. Could be you were just lucky; or you are in fact correct that tethered data volume is not the key indicator. Nobody except folks at AT&T know for sure.
My advice is still to keep tethered usage to a minimum, in order to stay of their radar.
