For all you people who want to have a working phone.apk with high dpi, I managed a "mixed" apk that works fine with higher dpi then stock 160.
I discovered the problem was caused by "png"s of "drawable-hdpi-finger" directory.
I replaced the 2.3's phone.apk with simplestreak 1.3 ones, and all works fine....
Here you are the flashable zip....
Don't forget "thanks" button...

Simplestreak is based on 354, phone.apk is the same...
In fact I used simplestreak png for 2.3 version, like mentioned in my post
Is the MMI(USSD) code issue fix with this phone.apk? Thaking you in advance and looking forward to your replay.

I don't know if MMI codes works with the 2.3 apk, I don't need MMI codes, and I managed only "png" changes.

Of what? This is not a theme. It only allows you to use higher resolution and not have the phone screen get crazy.
I hope this is correct.

No. This is for Gingerbread. You want dialer for Froyo.

simplestreak 1.2, baseband 351, 220DPI
with 220 DPI setting the phone.apk in landscape isn't displayed well, how can I fix it?
anyway, I would change the phone.apk 'cause I don't use it, but after a missing call it appears, how can I do?
thanks
update: I've installed the deodexed simplestreak 1.2, so I can change easily the phone.apk, so how can I change it with gocontacts (i.e. godialer)?

You install go contacts ex, replace shortcuts on your homescreen with the ones for go dialer, go contacts, clear the cache of the dialer and the contacts app, and you should have a dialer replacement, its not perfect, but at this time its better than the stock one at 240dpi.

OK so when you hang up, it shows old dialer, so, install no call log classic
Set it up to go back to the Go Contacts EX dialer, Contacts list or the home screen, and thats your dialer sorted.
Another dialer that works well is RocketDial. It can do this on its own, there is an option in its settings to choose the action when a call ends.
LCD Density 220
I was able to change the density to 220 without any crashes and FC after flashing the phone.apk attached in this thread but noticed that there is a rapid drain in battery after adjusting the screen density. i am using stock battery by the way...
May I ask how you could fix the error regarding FC when having a lower LCD density?
I'm trying to get a working Phone.apk from AOKP source, so I can fix the "slider to answer the call is off the screen" issue.
Hi guys, I tried to use the Epic 4G Touch launcher on my GS2, since I heard that it was better than the TouchWiz that comes with the international version, but something got messed up and it reverted back to the old launcher, and now it just shows the "Applications" icon in the middle of the dock, and whenever I try to add something else, it just FC's. I have deleted the Epic 4G Touch's launcher, but it still continues to do this.
SO, would anyone running completely stock XXKI3 firmware please go into their "/system/app" directory and upload: "TouchWiz30Launcher.apk" and "TouchWiz30Launcher.odex"? I really appreciate it!
By the way, what is the function of the odex file?
THANK YOU!

You sir, are a genius.
On another note though, why doesn't the E4GT launcher work on my phone? It runs much smoother than the original, but then I run into the problems I was having as described in the first post... :S
Did you delete the default TWlauncher .odex file before installing the epic one?

I renamed it.
And it still didn't work? That's odd, it worked for me after i rebooted the phone and I'm on KI3. I attached the new AT&T version of the launcher. It has a working search button and endless scrolling in the home screens. If you want to give it a try just unzip and drop the .lib file into system/lib (backup the one you have first) and the apk into system/app. This is the originating thread

Thank you for the information, but I honestly hate the new messaging icon on the AT&T launcher.
What reason could there be for the Epic launcher not working though? I really love how it's so smooth and more "polished" than the original.
Thank you so much, really appreciated!

The one I attached does not have the messaging apk, I took it out for that reason. Give it a try. I would download and use a different launcher while you install the new one just to be safe.

Thank you for the help, but once again, I just get an FC. I don't know what I'm doing wrong! :S
Could it be that when I rename the file, I still keep the extension? The stock tw launcher is laggy, and I honestly don't like it when I see the lag on such an amazing phone.
Anyone got any ideas?
Can someone post either a Stock MMS Apk from UnNamed or possible several others that will work?
I tried what I believe is an older Miui for its improved picture viewing, rather than the stock slideshow style, but I don't like the lack of split conversation style in individual sides and bubbles. I'm sure theres a few different ones floating around but I'm not seeing much. The newer Miui in 2.1.13 look pretty nice with bubbles.
Anyone have ideas on this too? Mostly making the thread to get a hold of the mms.apk or a zip I can flash. There is a similar thread in General but this seems like a more appropriate place to ask for an apk or a zip and possible have a more productive discussion for a possible fix to Samsung's horrid(in my opinion) mms set up, at least better than ranting about how much better iphones messaging app is(no offence to the OP of the other thread).
You could just pull it from the UnNamed ROM .zip

So should any MMS.apk from any firmware work? I'm assuming there are some type of restrictions to it.

I'm not sure. Make a nandroid backup and see what happens. I am also interested to see if this works.

I'll do that and let you know.
Edit: Tried MIUI 2.1.13 with no luck, kept Force Closing, even after running "Fix Permissions" in CWM, not sure if that had any real effect, I don't know what to manual set permissions to but am open to suggestions so I can try again.

The last days I was playing a little bit with the density on my phone. At first you want to know which ROM I'm using. > CM9 latest build. I would like to set my density to 178 or also to 170, these are densities, the phone can show without a blurred screen, or blurred icons. Everything works fine and looks bombastic! But the problem is, that the phone.apk keeps crashing.
Everything is working until a density of 190. Below this value, phone.apk crashes everytime you start a call, or are called.
I know this problem is not new, but other threads are not answered and very old.
So... Anyone knows, whats the problem? Why it is. And how we could fix it?
I will try to disable compatibility mode in spare parts, but I don't think that it will work.
Anyone knows a workaround or maybe has a modded phone apk for ics?
Thanks in Advance!
EDIT: As I thought, compatibility mode won't change anything.

I don't know how to solve your problem man,but I suggest you give exDialer a go.It's as smooth, functional and cool-looking(even has an ICS theme available) as the ICS dialer. It'd make for a good alternative until you find the solution.
i'm using 185 on cm9 and phone.apk is working great for me.

The problem is that it isn't the dialer that crashes, but InCallScreen. exDialer still uses the default InCallScreen, so it still crashes.

I believe it breaks once you go below 182. If you were to drop your density to 180, you'd see the crashes, too.
hi,
i read very often about reducing density from twohundred and xxx to one hundred and xxx.
but nobody explained, whats the advantage of reducing this.
can somebody explain to me please?
regards - sui
As everything's a bit smaller, more stuff fits on the screen.
its a problem which isnt even fixd in the latest cm9 build so no, wait for fix!
But when everything is smaller, the widgets wont fit on the homescreen... ?

If I pull the rosie.apk out of a rom that has the landscape homescreen mode working and put it in my system/app folder and change permissions will that allow my phone to go into landscape or are there other changes that need to be made?
I am running the Fresh rom atm and it's the only thing bugging me.
Thanks.

It depends on if you are running a deodexed version of the ROM currently. If yes, then, it should work as you described. If it is still ODEXED, then, no it won't.

Thanks, I did see that but I didn't like the idea of another app running in the background when I could just change one out. If I wasn't unlocked and rooted I would use that.
In case anyone wants it I pulled the .apk out of flex360's rom. Thanks flex360.
This, I believe, also has the ultrasmooth mod.
If posting this is against the rules or whatever let me know and I'll remove it. Just thought it would save people having to download a 500+mb rom if they are running a deodex rom and want the landscape rosie.
I kind of thought this would make the lockscreen rotate too but it doesn't... I have my phone sitting on the kickstand at work and I turn it on to look at the weather on the lockscreen which is why I originally wanted it rotated.

either this apk doesn't play well with viper, or I installed it wrong. I dropped it in /system/app and set permissions, but just got a black screen on reboot. Luckily, I was able to install apex from the play store from my computer, and once that installed, I was able to launch root explorer and change back to the backup rosie.apk I made before I pushed the new one. How are you supposed to install this?
Weird. Maybe some roms have changes not compatible or something. I did exactly what you did and it worked fine for me on the fresh 5.1.1 rom. I just renamed my original and put this one in system>app and changed permissions. After a reboot it worked.
I assume you meant system>app.

you might be right, but it's smooth enough for me
If its still odexed first delete the Rosie.odex file in root explorer then place your new Rosie in there. If you have modified the Rosie make sure it is signed. Signature verification has not been disabled in any of the roms that are out I don't believe.

I agree with Flex360. I'm an Android nub learning slowly here. Tried a few of the new roms and his is just...ultra smooth.
Crazy good battery life too, do the one click root. Then install and you are g2g.
Thanks Flex! I can't post on developer yet, 8 more posts! woot.
