Ok I'm trying to figure this out sorry if this has been covered before I did a search and couldn't find the awnser to my problem.
This is my situation. My gf does not want to root her phone, But wants to use her phone while I'm gone to connect to her phones web.
I looked up on google and tried to download kies 1.5.3 because I found a method that allows you to connect via usb. Well i cant find the download at all for kies 1.5.3 So what I need is either to connect via usb or wifi sharing app.
So could anyone that either has the kies downloaded share it please?
Or, could you share the apk for wifi sharing please?
Thanks in advance.
I know there is an app in the market that says you can use it to tether your phone's data connection to a computer or whatever. It is $9.99 though. It does claim to be able to work without root. I have not used it, but wanted to let you know I have seen it. If you try it and it works, let us know, I am curious.
Try it right away and if it does not work, then you can get your refund within 15 minutes.
Thank you, You wouldn't know what the name is would you?
The specific one I am thinking of is called EasyTether. however I just put "tether" into the Market search and it brings up a few, some free some not, that claim to work without root. The easytether app even has a free "lite" version you can try out.
Good luck!
Ok sweet downloading it now. I'll post back to let you guys know how it works.
Thank you very much!
Ok, At the momment I'm using easytether to post this. I must say it works just as stated. Thank you once again I'm going to continue to test it out.
Hey that's awesome. My wife also does not want her phone rooted, so will use this if she needs to tether. Thanks for being the guinea pig!
Cheers
Hey guys Easy tether works great. Thats what I used before I rooted and installed custom roms on my phone months ago.
Edit: you said wifi sharing, Easy Tether is usb tethering which is much better because wifi tethering kills you battery quick.

To WiFi tether without root you're going to need a firmware that has the MobileAP application already installed. That will either require Odin, or root so that's out. Other than that you can easily usb tether without root. Don't even need special software if the system is running XP, Vista, or 7. See link below

The Q&A section is his friend too, which is why he posted here. He was provided assistance, and followed up on the help he was given advising us of the result. This thread topic, for now, has been resolved. No further googling is necessary.
I did find this in a search but, I was unable to connect with kies 2.0. I tried to find kies 1.5.3 but everywhere I looked I had to pay or do a long sign up to obtain it. Samsungs site only offers 2.0 which wouldn't allow my gfs phone to connect. I finally downloaded kies mini 1.0. I was able to connect finally but, the mini version doesn't have any option to tether via usb. She has used it most of the night and it works great. So at this point till she let's me root her phone and install cwm and a custom Rom,
This method is working great. For 9.99 I really can't complain as it works wonderfully for her. Once again thanks guys for all your help.

Hi can somebody help me , how to connect SGS2 to Kies via wifi ? ( not the Kies Air one ) , but there is an option on " wireless and network " setting,it supports synchronization with kies via wifi . thank you in advance. help
So why dont you use the Kies Air there nothing wrong with connecting to computer via this mode...
I may be wrong but I think this is the way you connect using the KA.
The thing is I just want to try it out since we have this function so why not use it ?, I think it's not the same as Kies Air , anyway thank you for your suggestion .
You start Kies, then you go to your phone and start "Kies Wifi", your computer asks you to accept the connection ... that's it.
speaks for itself I think.
I've tried many times before and it's said " No Device " but with kies air no problem , is it just me or anybody having the same issue ?
those two are completely different!
Kies Air gives you access to your phone's internal sdcard letting you copy/move/delete/whatever files via the (!!) webbrowser!
Kies WiFi establishes a connection between the phone and Kies Software on your Computer via WiFi. You start Kies on your computer, start Kies Wifi on your phone, wait until it shows your computer in the list (assuming you are in the same network), click on the computer in the list and then accept the request on your computer. Kies is recognizing the phone and you are connected.
No device means there is no connection. Make sure you are in the same network, otherwise it won't work!
Thank you for your suggestion , but everytime I tried to connect to kies via wifi nothing happened except it just show me only my network name ( see the attachment below ) and yes both devices connected to the same network.
i have the same problem and did not get any solution yet and by the way do u have any wifi problems like u r connected to the wireless network but there is no internet data transfer please any one help
I've had the same problem, scanning for devices and the computer doesn't show up.
Try'd turning wifi off and on, restarting phone and it still didn't work. Computer has no firewall running at all, so its not getting blocked.
Try'd it a day later, it worked again :/
not helpful but just make sure your computer has been restarted recently, just to make sure the 2 (i think) kies process's are running in the background
can anyone upload a copy of kies wifi backup plzzzz
i uninstalled it by accident using titanium backup, from my wife's SII :s
Here is a step by step walkthrough and video http://www.careace.net/2011/05/03/how-to-download-and-use-kies-air/ for the Samsung Captivate; should work similarly for the GS2.

yes,i know all of those features and i've already successfully do them.
but this isn't my issue,my problem is that i want to run internet on pc using mobile as a source.
i want to see a modem installed on my pc device manager so i can control of detailed information to connect to access point from my computer.
In other words,
i want to access internet over usb cable by using phone as 3g modem when removing (Data Enabled) option , because it's assumed that two connection establised one on phone and the other one on pc.
This feature has been found in all nokia phones and samsung mobiles
i do that in acer liquid e special ferrari edition with froyo android 2.2 ...thanks in advance

Then use the USB tethering option, as this uses the mobile 3G internet to access the WHOLE internet. Make sure all other connections are turned off on your PC.
I mean that when i removed the sign from Data Enabled, Internet connected and establish on my laptop (surfing, browsing and downloading is ok) from Acer Liquid E Special Ferrari Edition with Froyo Android v2.2...Why???
because mobile is being used to be a 3g modem or as a internet source not for sharing internet.
also i did this on nokia c7 and samsung monte but not android it was symbian and java.
So I hope you understand me now and helping me very soon.

It is the same.
Computer uses the mobile(via USB cable) to connect to 3G Internet. Mobile internet is used. You need to enable the data in Android to use the internet.
i found this article
until they provide modem driver for android phone, especially sony xperia, then they will be impossible to make your phone as a modem and bridging the connection (eg: dial from your pc using *99#). right now the only option is to share your already connected internet by your phone with a pc, which means phone act as a router.
does it means that i can't use my mobile as a dongle modem???

Hello everyone. I have a problem with connecting my Samsung galaxy S3 (android 4.3) to any of my PCs. Before everything worked fine but then I upgraded to android 4.3 and connections started crashing. It still worked but connections were unstable. So I installed Samsung Kies 3 and from then on I haven't been able to connect my device to any PC. I tried everything I found on web. I have developer mode and usb debugging on. I know my cable is OK because other devices work just fine. Someone suggested going to usb settings but apparently there is no such think in android 4.3 settings, so I downloaded some apps to change my usb settings but they all require a rooted phone. I tried rooting my phone but even for that I need to connect it to a PC. I really need to connect my phone to PC to test apps(android emulator lags waaay too much). Does anyone know how to fix this please? Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello everyone, I could not find a good title for my issue but I will try to explain as well as I can. I own a GT-I9300 (International), but since last official Samsung's firmware update(Jelly Bean 4.3) I am not able to get my phone recognized by my computer. Phone is connected and it charges, but neither Windows or Ubuntu recognizes it as a portable device. I am concerned about UMS is not available on device, but my phone it does not even get detected! I also own a Galaxy SII (4.1.2) and it does get detected by my PC. I think that flashing a custom ROM could solve the problem, since it appeared when I updated official firmware, but the thing is that I cannot root my phone! Tried ODIN but since my phone does not get detected, ODIN does not do its job. I also tried rooting with framaroot and towelroot, but no success: first one says "Failed , try another exploit" but there is only one. And the last one says my phone is not currently supported, even if I change modstrings.
So here is my question: how do I root my phone? I don't know what else I could try. I have already reinstalled Kies and Samsung USB drivers but still not working. Also hard-resetted but no luck.
Hope you guys can help me out because this is really getting on my nerves
Thanks in advance!

The thing is that my phone is the only one that do not get detected every single time I connect it. I have already connected one GT-I9100 and GT-S6790L and both get detected. I already tried on 3 different Virtual Machines with Windows XP, Ubuntu, Windows 8.1 but no luck.
As I said in the first post, I think it's a firmware problem since it appeared when I did the official update, which was this one:
Model GT-I9300
Model name GALAXY S III
Country Argentina
Version Android 4.3

I can see your frustration Now a few things technically it is a misconception that you need root to flash a custom rom you can actually flash a custom recovery with Odin full wipe and then flash a custom rom from custom recovery (only thing is you will lose all your data because you need root to back up your data)
Now I know the above statement is not very helpful because as you said Odin doesn't detect it (but I thought I would mention it anyway )
The reason framaroot and towelroot, didn't work is because at the moment the only way to root S3 is with Odin.:crying:
You may have tried this but I will mention it anyway first uninstal Kies and all Samsung drivers from your computer ( kies can interfere with Odin) Then try installing these drivers here >> http://developer.samsung.com/techni...Lhp1GqlWRy92Q60CX6PP1mF!80806326?v=T000000117 << If you have tried this then sorry.
Also when you connect the phone go to Device manager in Windows and try to look for your device ( it may say unkown device) it should have a warning triangle right click on it select update driver software and then select browse from my computer and point to the drivers that you have downloaded see if that works.
Another thing to note is if you are using Windows 8 you need to disable Driver signature in start up options ( Google it) for Windows to recognize the drivers.

I already tried uninstalling Kies and Samsung drivers. Also I tried looking for device on Device Manager but it does not appear when I plugin my S3, but it does appear when I connect other devices like S2 or Galaxy Fame Lite. They appear as portable devices.
I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and have already tried with different OS over Virtual Machines and still doesn't work.
And thanks for that note, didn't know there was possible to flash a Custom Recovery without root, but I can't since ODIN doesn't detect device :crying:
Then it looks like you are running out of options I would use another computer not Virtual Machines
Okay I'll give it a try but as I said before, looks like an firmware issue, not computer's. Why would my computer detects two another Samsung devices but not mine (which used to work until last update)
Me, too!
I'm having a similar problem. Last week my GS3 stopped working, and I bought another one from Ebay with a cracked screen and swapped out motherboards. The phone seems to work as well as a stock Verizon phone on Jellybean would, but I can't get my Linux, Win 8, or Win XP computers to even recognize that it's attached. Different cables, each and every one of the USB ports, not even a blip. Device Manager in Windows doesn't even see it, and yes I got the developer options unlocked and have enabled USB debugging.
I've got the Samsung drivers installed, and tried to install the CWM device drivers from the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V9, but there was an error and that didn't work, either.
USB connection issues are usually due to Windows conflicts, driver problems or the lead itself. If all these have been excluded then you have either a firmware issue in the bootloader, which is very uncommon, or a hardware problem. The usb port is easily worn/damaged/dirty also the motherboard might be the cause.
There is no silver bullet to cure, test each possible thoroughly.

I'm 100 percent sure that it is not due a Windows issue, I have already test every option. I have not considered the usb port to be damaged or worn, which could be possible but phone charges every time I connect it to computer. It just does not get detected as a device. But in order to assume it is a motherboard issue I will have to put away my feeling that the problem is caused by last OTA official update, since this problem started there.
If it is a firmware update issue, is it any option to flash another ROM?

As I said on previous posts, I have already installed and reinstalled Samsung USB drivers and made a factory reset -one from config. option and another one from Android stock recovery 3e (since I cannot install any advanced recovery -or even root it- to flash a custom rom). Doing those factory reset did not downgrade my last firmware update (when all my problems started).
I also said on previous posts that I tried towelroot and framaroot with no success. As tallman43 says, seems like international version of S3 does not support those kind of one-click to root apps.
-----------------------------------------------------
So far the only options available (if my theory about latest firmware update is the problematic one) are:
● downgrade firmware: [Q] How? Odin is not working since my phone does not get detected;
● root my phone in order to install an advanced recovery and flash a new ROM: [Q] Any way of rooting phone without computer (apart from towelroot or framaroot because I have tried and do not work for me)? I read one XDA post from 2 years ago to root S3 via console apk but latest comments assumes that method stopped working.
● install an advanced recovery without odin or root: [Q] How?
● fix USB firmware issue: [Q] I have completely no idea how to do it. (Already played with *#7284# and *#0808# but did not get my phone detected)
Please I need help, this is really irritating me and I am running out of ideas

I guess I have found out what the problem was. It was not firmware (as I thought). It was the micro USB port (as boomboomer said) which seems to not be firmly attached to the PCB. AC charging just seems to work okay, but not USB connections. I managed to figure it out by forcing the USB in a specific position to get it detected for 5 seconds, but then it disappeared.
Yeah, it was not as complex as I thought! I will try to replace that micro USB port as soon as possible, thanks everyone for your help!
