The ''Build Date'' of the phones - Motorola Droid RAZR

If you go to About Phone in Settings, it will tell you the build date.
I heard somme phones suffer from lag while scrolling (including mine), my build date is 19 oct 2011, anyone else suffering the same?

29th October 2011 for me.
No lag, just fab by
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium

Anyway, just for pointing it out, "Build date" isn't the phone's building date.
It is related to its software

Oct 29th here. Perfect phone with no hiccups.

Build date refers to a version of the software. It has nothing to do with when the phone was manufactured. To figure that out, you'll have to decode the serial number.

Mine is Oct 26 no lag
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium

doesnt this mean this is the prerelease models? which are laggy?

Mine is 10/26 and I have no noticeable lag. However, I do have the issue with white not showing well on lower brightness settings. Anyone with the 10/26 or the 10/29 build having this issue? I have heard before that Galaxy phones with Super AMOLED+ have issues producing truly white whites as well. Some say that their whites look great even on low brightness. Could this be software related?

Not sure about that but mine is xt910 and sw build date is 29/10. No lag anywhere.

lag or no lag, i definitely think there is an issue with the green/blue tone of the screen under low lighting in some devices...

Mine is lagging a lot, and I have the horrible blue/green tint on the display.
Build date is 17/10/2011, system version: 651.73.15.XT910.Retail.en.FR

RAZR Reviews

A place to stick reviews now they're starting to trickle in?
Here's Engadget... surprisingly positive, though a few queries about some of their details (No Pentile? Some UI Stuttering still?) and some notable omissions.. no talk about the partitioned memory, speaker/call quality either..
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/motorola-droid-razr-review/
Here's SlashGear too.. Interestingly, they loved the display.. guess opinions on this one will run and run.. Positive, but not blown away. Again, no mention of the finer details that I guess we'll have
to discover for ourselves. Both reviews have concerns about battery life too - whether in real life, it fares any better or worse than the Galaxy S2/Rezound/Sensation/GNexus we'll just have to see i suppose
http://www.slashgear.com/motorola-razr-review-07193439/
Here's CNet... They liked it a lot, and in complete contradiction to Engadget and slashgear, didn't experience the same battery or display/animation lag issues (apart from a blip when changing screens).. so what gives?
http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/motorola-droid-razr-verizon/4505-6454_7-35033947.html
Here's TechCrunch... More contradictions. They liked the camera stills AND video capture this time...
http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/07/motorola-droid-razr-review-so-close-yet-so-far/
Here's TheVerge... More issues with the display. The reviewer has major issues with the Pentile implementation. Yep this is definitely going to be a horses for courses type deal
http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/7/2543626/motorola-droid-razr-review
Here's BGR... Another review.. more contradictions.. In opposition to TheVerge's review, BGR reckons the Motorola software is almost identical to that on the Bionic (So no excessive animations etc., then or what?). Although BGR seemed to love it overall. And guess what, they didn't have issues with the battery..
http://www.bgr.com/2011/11/07/motorola-droid-razr-review/
Here's Gizmodo...
http://gizmodo.com/5856947/motorola-droid-razr-lightning-review-faster-thinner-prettierlike-a-supermodel-in-a-rocket
(Sidenote.. Hmm.. I'm thinking that the review concerns around battery life could be mostly to do with the LTE radio that our US cousins have access to.. but given the wildly different experiences the reviewers are having, who knows.. still may get better battery life in good ole' backwards 3G United Kingdom.. )
http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-razr-review
Android Central. Not enough details.
And I guess that you and me, GSM users, will have to wait for the review of the world version of that phone.
Bezel ><
Yeah, I just edited my first post to comment that it could be the LTE radio doing most of the damage in terms of battery life. We're not getting LTE for a while longer in the UK yet, so may be less of an issue
What's also interesting, is that the reviewers all seem to have had varying amounts of time with the device (from a day, upwards).. which does lead me to question the veracity of some of the claims..
some photos are great (with a lil' girl), some aren't.. well..

I do agree. The real reviews will be here, and elsewhere on forums, but those drafts are not what I'm expecting. We need various run tests about battery life, a word on the bootloader, screen comparisons with the top-end devices from Sammy and HTC, in depth reviews of the video player...
I'm not satisfied :/
I'm looking forward to read the GSM Arena thoughts.
to see a real life of battery you need 3-4 days or more...so it is too early yet
Eventually, good job from Phone Arena:
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Motorola-DROID-RAZR-Review_id2884
So far then, from this first crop of reviews the following have left me scratching my head
Screen. Is it any good or not? I know its personal taste but how well/badly does it stack up to the current competition?
Batterylife. What's going on here? Some say several days on standby with light usage.. most agree a daily charge is required putting it on par with other smartphones.. some think it'll need more regular charging than that!
Camera. Is it any good or not - again, compared to the competition it looks like it'll do a serviceable job at the very least
Speakerphone. Some say its good and clear, others say its weak and lousy..
Software. Another personal taste one, but its pretty clear that any kind of "overlay" can have an impact on the device's performance. Yet again we have some taking issues with the overlay and others saying it doesn't intrude
What I can tell if nothing else, that there doesn't seem to be any kind of concensus on any of the key factors that people may want to look for when comparing this phone to its direct competition and that makes it a tough call..
my very brief review (color focused)
I have not seen anyone take a good look at the quality of the color reproduction of the RAZR's display. I went in to the verizon store which has them on display now and compared the same image on the RAZR and on my AMOLED Droid Incredible(DInc).
The RAZR beat the DInc hands down. When comparing a picture of a person with a white background on both phones, the RAZR had more accurate color reproduction and a whiter white-level. Compression artifacts in the image were also more noticeable on the RAZR although they could be seen on the DInc. I think this means the RAZR has a much better, albeit less forgiving, display. I also compared the Bionic sitting next to the RAZR and it was extremely blue compared to the other two phones.
Thanks man.. now that's the kinda info we need
yeah battery is definitely a big deal for people in the US using 4G & on unlimited data.
4G kills battery big time on all the 4G phones here. even on my old thunderbolt, i had to get the 4500mAh battery and still blew through that thing the same day.
then again, i'd also constantly be streaming music, browsing the web or downloading something. i'd say i probably average around 20 - 30GB /month.
motorola says the battery life will be 12hrs talk time, which is astounding.. on 3g of course, since im from australia, this is a dream come true..
Any stuttering or UI hiccups is purely software. The hardware is more than enough to run any app today and is quite future proof. Quadcore phones coming out soon too el oh el.

considering that gingerbread is not optimized for dual-core phones, I can see the jerkin'... although once ice cream sandwhich is available(wether official or dev produced rom) that *should* go away... however, since ICS is brand new, it may take a few updates before they work all the bugs out of that to.
regardless, good show!

The jerking is due to motorolas fail UI that is installed ontop of Android. If only moto stuck with pure AOSP like the original DROID. Ahh... those were the days *_*. Great hardware build (gg moto) with pure AOSP.
Any sign of any Uk or worldwide reviews? Would be good to know what the battery life is like without LTE..

basically, the image/text quality on the screen is a bit wonky(sub par) due to the 'pentile'-pixel arrangement. it may not bother a lot of people, but if you have good vision and an eye for noticing impurities, the screen is going to bug you.
this is actually a similar reason as to why I do not want the Galaxy Nexus... a 4.65" screen with the same pixel count as the iphone's 3.5" display.

As no-one has asked this question I thought I might as well.
How many gs3 owners are so dissatisfied that they are considering returning their product?
Also state reasons please.
I know this won't be a popular thread with some diehard fans, might even get abuse from some but I'm sure there are people not happy with gs3.
I for one after playing around with gs3 aren't convinced this product is a huge improvement on the gs2.
I absolutely hate the build quality more so now then before, it feels and looks cheap.
Led notification is way too bright and visible through the surrounding body rather then just the actual place this makes the build quality look even cheaper.
S-voice not accurate at all.
Screen is good but not much of an improvement on the gs2.
Surprisingly it lags.
You might not be happy with camera quality?
Video playback quality?
To add galaxy s3 is more fragile then s2, 4s, HOX. This is maily due to design and material usrd Is this of putting for you?
It would be interesting to see how many people hate their device so much so they are considering returning it, selling it. Or are very happy with it.
I don't have the Galaxy S III yet, ordering from Handtec but then the bank holiday and diamond jubilee thing so I won't receive it until maybe the 11th.
I am currently using the Galaxy Fit.
Even if it as bad as you describe I'd still love it.
It's way better than what I currently have so yeah.
I had three one x's which I ultimately returned and replaced with a galaxy s3 due to defects and problems. I'm way impressed with s3 so far. The hox lagged, overheated, died within 3 - 4 hours with average use. Even the galaxy s3 screen is ultimately better in my opinion. The only thing I would of kept hox for was tegra games, otherwise an awful device that they probably released way to early to get into the market before Samsung.

I agree first batch of HOX did have several issues, did seem HTC rushed them through but since then HTC have sorted the issues out. I had 4 and the last one was brilliant no issues.
I disagree the sg3 screen is better, certainly colours are more vibrant but not natural. The viewing angles on the HOX are far superior, the text is clearer and sharper this especially evident when surfing the net. The text becomes blurry when scrolling on the sg3.

Are you serious? Return it because i`m disappointed??
I`m sorry but I disagree with some of your points and i`ve come from a Galaxy Nexus.
I absolutely hate the build quality more so now then before, it feels and looks cheap. I love the build on it. Ok a bit plasticy and not iPhone standard but its way better in the hand than i originally thought it would be.
Led notification is way too bright and visible through the surrounding body rather then just the actual place this makes the build quality look even cheaper. I like the fact a larger area glows. It makes it easy for me to see it when i come into the room for missed calls etc.
S-voice not accurate at all. Did we ever think it would be? Its not so great on the iPhone either. But I can text with it and so far its been pretty accurate.
Screen is good but not much of an improvement on the gs2. This I cant comment on as I havent had a S2. Compare to my Nexus though i think it looks stunning.
Surprisingly it lags. I have had a few instances of this. Mainly when returning to the home screen from within the settings or app menu. I`m sure this will be fixed with an update.
You might not be happy with camera quality? Noooo way!!! So impressed.
Video playback quality? So far so good. Downloaded a few 1080p`s to try. So i`ve still to see on this one.
Considering all the above there is no way I would return it. I have it down as the bset phone i have owned to date. And I have had a few!!
No returns thus far but 50% people were expecting more for their money, this is very understandable.
Screen is good but not much of an improvement on the gs2.*This I cant comment on as I havent had a S2. Compare to my Nexus though i think it looks stunning.
Having owned nexus, note, sg2, 4s, SXL, HOX I can tell you its not hugely impressive probably just behind HOX and 4s as far as screen quality is concerned.
Coming from nexus you will be impressed with gs3 camera, infact pretty much on all accounts screen etc
I've always been a smartphone addict and I've had a decent amount over the years. Untill i bought myself an Iphone 4 and i was completely happy with it for 2 years (my absolute record, smashed all other records by 18 months atleast).
I decided it was time for a change and bought myself an android device. I was curious to see if Android had caught up with IOS. In almost every aspect it has or it's closing in, except for the Marketplace, companies are still focussing IOS over Android which is annoying.
Also 5 homescreens hardcoded ? The ****?
The only real Galaxy problems I have atm:
The battery is said to be awesome, it's not. My Iphone performed better under a full days use than this device does.
It should've been metal, even though I'm getting used to the plastic.
The only people "disappointed" in this phone are the ones that believe all the pre release hype, or the ones that even after it was announced expected more. So far from what I've seen it lives up to what was announced by Samsung and then some, what';s there to be disappointed about?
no screen improvement from sgs2 to sgs3??? time to check your eyes.
it seems you have clearly decided to return the device and making reasons for that

ive had the hox the gnexus gs1 iphone 4 and 4s. This phone is the best by far. About same camera quality as 4s and sometimes even better!. Screen is fabulous! I find it the most beautifull screen ive ever seen on a phone. I think its because the glas is so thin so everything is much clearer!
Its going to be the same as the iPhone it has the same sensor & I am probably one of the few that wants to return the device. It is an amazing device but I just prefer sense and the one x so I will try and get one of those again
Gone from 4s > HOX > GS3. Been using a few days now. I like it more than I like either the 4s or the HOX.
The only issue I have right now is that reception seems to be worse than both my 4s and my HOX. I havent heard anyone else talking about that, so I suspect I may have a faulty handset.
If anyone can care to comment about their (cell) reception I would appreciate it, thanks.

Number of screens is launcher-dependent: apex and nova launcher allow for 9, I believe, while launcher 7, for example, doesn't really have screens at all.
Looks like most people who have voted are happy with their GS3, mainly inmho due to their previous mobile being a far inferior handset possibly a last year model.
quite satisfied with SGS3
Not suprinsingly, I am quite satisfied with the phone, since my previous phone was a Google Nexus One which, although it has served me well (stock -> CM7 nightlies -> texasice ICS 4.0.4), was showing his age and the ICS ROM has some glitches (camera, SoD, random reboots, etc.)
I have been reading about SGS3 for several months, and before the official anouncement, I was dragged by the hype (full hd, 1.5GHz, 2 Gb RAM, 12 Mp camera, flexible screen, liquid, ...). That said, I find the final hardware more than enough.
However, SGS3 notable strenghts for me are:
* unlocked bootloader
* rooted before release and extremely easy to follow instructions to root
* odin
* easily SIM unlocked
* alive & knowledgeable community @xda
* separated partitions
* removable battery
* external sdcard
all in all, 8/10

Laggy or not?

I'm seeing a lot of reports of lag, I for one am not experiencing this issue and if I were then this phone would be going back after my experience with the s4.
My g2 runs smoother than any phone I've ever used and I've used a lot of high end phones over the past 2years. I have noticed a couple very slight stutters in the stock launcher but I use next launcher and it runs flawless.
I have past experience with lg phones and it seems they sell a lot of defective models that they know a huge percentage will just deal with because for the most part everything works. Let me say that anyone experiencing lag and/or bad battery most likely have a defective unit. If it were me I would get another or my money back.
I haven't experienced any issues with heat either. I just got the phone though so I'll see how things go. I did have my screen on for 3 hours straight today at 100 percent brightness and the phone never got hot at all. I have yet to do any gaming but I would expect excellent results since it has the best gpu cpu combo of any phone out in America.
I'm coming from an s4 and this phone is leaps and bounds better in every way imo. Anyone doubting they should get this phone because of reported issues should not listen to that and get one because it's a great phone. If it has issues then exchange it for another.
People also need to remember that forums like this help serve us when we have problems so it's always going to be a high amounts of complaints and problems reported. Most people are completely happy with their g2. It has a very high rating on Verizon's wireless site and 95percent recommendation rate.
PS. To those saying that this phone lags period, and its just that you see it and us with slow eyes can't see it because we are just slow and not used to nice smooth phones like you. I think this is silly because many of us have lots of experience with gaming or video editing and can tell the difference between 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. fps. I know that my eye is very capable of seeing frame rate drops and I'm not seeing anything worse than 35fps which is very acceptable. I know this thing is gonna be a beast on cm or some aosp based Rom.

My phone is running smoothly. Sure I'll notice the very rare (micro pause?) Or redraw but I would be foolish to tell anyone I have a laggy phone. Even the smoothest of roms I've noticed stutters here and there but the phone in 99.9 percent of use was smooth yet some would say that it was a lag fest omg I'm taking it back.

I get no lag in most things, however some games I have tried have strange stuttering issues. I think it is mostly due to optimizations that need to happen for this chipset as those same games ran very smooth on my older Galaxy Nexus which is way slower and also on my tablet. Doesnt make sense for a much more powerful phone to have stuttering problems in the games so all I can put it down to is a brand new chipset that things need to be updated for.
have you guys tested the scrolling smoothness and touch movement on the screen compared to other phones? If you go to developers settings, you can click the option to "show touches" where a white ball will follow your touch movement on the screen. I think this test shows how smooth the phone really is when it comes to scrolling and touch movement.
I compared it to the S4 at a verizon store and I thought the S4 was somewhat better. The scrolling was better on the S4 as well. The G2 was really fast and snappy though, and I didn't really notice any lag with that. Maybe after a while of usage, perhaps the G2 is better? After all I only tested the units at a store for a small period of time.
I dont know, I thought there were alot of people complaining about lag too, it sure seemed like it but really there arent alot of people complaining it was just really the same users reposting. It made it seem like it was more magnified than it really was. Some other users were talking about stutter here and there but it was more like micro stutter, kinda like what I experience here and there. To the untrained eye its hard to see but coming from pure stock android roms (CM rom etc...) its more prevalent to the eye, but in no way does it ruin the experience. Im sure we will get updated drivers for the hardware and GPU that will get released for the Nexus 5, and since it will be sporting the same hardware as the G2. Developers should be able to use those drivers in AOSP based roms but im not sure if that will be the same for custom roms based on the stock OS

Changing the governor to one that's included in the kernel and changing CPU speeds within its stock limits is unlikely to cause any instability.

I owned an lg spectrum and though mine worked ok for the most part there were many many people reporting problems with that phone, and the same went with the lg revolution. Based off my forum experience with my prior lg's i made the statement. But I do think lg is stepping their game up and at this moment are my favorite.
EDIT: No lag on my G2. The phone absolutely screams, performance wise.
Another tip, until Android 4.3 comes out for the G2 (or we get AOSP) is to use the Lag Fix app. On my old Galaxy Nexus, this goddamn thing produced _AMAZING_ results. The bug that causes this is apparently fixed in 4.3, but since our G2s are running 4.2.2, I figured I might as well.

and the app itself...

I have it scheduled to fstrim every morning at 5AM. A bit excessive? I don't care, my GNex loved it... it was like having a freshly installed OS every morning.

so my naming two phones and my experience with them and my countless hours of monitoring their forums and helping people with issues and reading the countless reports of the same issues over and over is nothing? ok

Ppl are constantly and forever reporting problems. Are there exist phone that is not prone to problems? For example Apple iphone X, did any of iPhone series have not had issues reported? 50% of ppl's problems goes from not reading in-box including manuals and instructions and asking simple and silly questions all over forums. I don't blame those ppl and not calling them silly, everybody has job and family to spend time instead of reading manuals. And other 50% part of reports is indeed from defective units but I doubt you have any proof that revolution & spectrum had many more defective units in stores than, say, galaxys

I never said LG produces more defective units than anyone else. I just said that my experience with them is that many defective units get sold. I'm sure everyone does this as it is with all technology. (how many of us who build our own PC's have received DOA parts) I've only owned samsung and LG phones and my experience so far has been LG is better.
Anyway! it's not the subject I was making this thread about.

for me: I've never in whole life, but I try to pick up brands and models carefully. Even raid x0 of 4 hitachis works 24/7/365 flawlessly fur years

I'm too didn't want to be offendive but only tried to stat that lg selling garbage and selling defective units is mere exaggeration IMHO. So this is the proof

[Q] Recent Build Quality and S/N ?

Hi guys!
As the New Revision and Light Bleed thread seems to loose people's attention, I wonder if that means that recently produced units are finally flawless :fingers-crossed:
Is there anyone who recently purchased a Nexus 9? Did it have any flaws?
Also, I am wondering what build date recently shipped devices have. Could anyone who recently purchased one post the first 4 characters of their serial number (and maybe where they purchased)?
Any posts highly appreciated

Hm, okay, HT4C means December 2014. Interestingly, I have never actually read of a device produced in 2015 (HT51). I wonder if they are still in production.
It seems as if they produced a huge amount in October and November 2014, expecting high demand. Sales then went worse than expected due to mediocre reviews, so they are still selling the devices produced back then. This seems to apply especially for the black model.

I have a HT515 (January 2015) black Nexus 9 LTE and it's perfect - no light bleed, no dead pixels, no creaking.
Mine is HT4C black 32GB LTE version from Amazon.de and I have no build quality issues. Screen, buttons, back cover are without issues
